[linux-dvb] Re: dvbstream stopping
Hi Peter Maersk-Moller wrote: My problem is that dvbstream (0.5) reads zero bytes from the (receiver) device after having read approx 16100 (plus/minus 200) times 188 bytes. That is approx. 2 seconds (plus/minus) after start). Correction 3 not 2 seconds approx. The problem is solved by adding the following line to /etc/modprobe.conf options dvb_core dvb_shutdown_timeout=0 I can't find this documented in the /usr/src/linux/Documentation/dvb/* though it is remotely mentioned in the README in the driver distro from linuxtv, but not many sees this. Note 2: you must keep ?zap running, or the frontend will go to sleep (unless you load dvb-core.o with dvb_shutdown_timeout=0) Are there any drawbacks to dvb_shutdown_timeout=0 ? If one is required to keep zap running (keeping the frontend opened I assume), then other programs can't access the frontend I assume - like dvbtune -m ?? or am I mistaken ? --PMM

We are thinking of moving to Anjuna from England in the next two years or so. At that time our son will be 12/13 and will have completed one or two years in an England secondary school. Does anyone have knowledge of English/international schools in the area for that age group and preferably, have experience of sending a child to one of the schools. Any information would be appreciated as this is obviously one of the most important considerations before leaving England for good! Many thanks Julie - End forwarded message -

Please advise me on the rates and how to proceed in posting, and paying, for these 'commercial' postings. Cecil Dear Cecil, What say we revert to the well-tried out system that so effectively served the villages through agest: barter of trades, service and produce. All during our infancy and onwards (until post-lib) I fondly remember the barber, dhobi, harvest-labourers, coconut pluckers and sundry service-providers paid for with rice, coconuts, palm-leaves and so on. While the barber received a kudov (2 pailis) of unhusked rice for his round the year unlimited tending of hair of all males in the household (poscós incl, servants not), the dhobi was paid the same ammount of rice but husked. Each harvester-woman took home as big a boro of rice as she could carry on her head. Not the batkar, nor his supervising agent dealt it out but a senior man'nai thus ensuring impartiality; moreover, the ears of rice bestowed upon them were made up from the choicest part of the field under harvest. The males were paid in treshed rice, at ammounts I think fixed annually. And so on. Where does this lead up to? Try and work out a deal with Mssrs Herman, Frederick, Gilbert and the rest of the admin supremos whereby they carry EXPRESSIONS' ads and Bea pledges to provide bouquets, garlands, wreaths as joyfull and sorrowfull circumstances may arise. Perhaps Mr Madkaikar was recently sent on a state-sponsored jaunt to the Cannes film festival to keep him in good spirits. Perhaps, he will also be compensated by being made Chairman of the newly formed Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation. Mr Madkaikar is a young and understandably ambitious politician. Will this new position in an insignificant Corporation keep Mr Madkaikar content even if given the status of a state minister? Last year Mr Madkiakar joined the BJP and will now be regretting that move but there is nothing he can do as his handicap is that he belongs to a community whose real interests have never been in the BJP's true agenda. And now reportedly the restrictions for meeting Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at the Secretariat have been eased and the system of issuing limited passes to meet the Chief Minister has also been withdrawn. What could be the reasons? Is it that he is not getting enough visitors? I do not think he is planning to dissolve the assembly and have fresh elections. If so he would have resumed his 'Mission Salcette' which he had promised to resume on May 16th. Aires Rodrigues Ribandar

The Government's current move will only aggravate the residents' woes, stated Ribandar-based social activist Adv. Aires Rodrigues today. The residents of Ribandar would meet on Sunday, 13th June, to plan the future course of action to oppose the Government decision and to protect the peace and good image of Ribandar. Adv. Rodrigues said that nobody was against rehabilitation of sex workers but the decision of the Government to put the sex workers in the midst of a populated and upcoming place like Ribandar was unwarranted and this stand of the local residents would be explained to the Goa State Women's Commission, Bailancho Exvott, Bailancho Saad and other women organizations. Recalling that the government had earlier tried to set up a garbage dump on Kadamba Plateau, Adv. Rodrigues warned the Government not to take Ribandarites for granted and use Ribandar as a dumping place for Government problems. He added, The government should consider using one of the vacant buildings at Althinho or around the Assembly Complex at Porvorim instead of bringing the sex workers to Ribandar or in the alternative the Government may consider deporting the sex workers to the state of their origin so that they could be rehabilitated by the women's organisations there. Adv. Rodrigues has also stated that Ribandar was chosen as a venue to host the sex workers without consulting the local MLA, and that Mrs. Victoria Fernandes has assured her full support in opposing the Government move to bring the sex workers to Ribandar. * * *

(Source - Unknown) ... Check your attitude towards others... A long time ago in China, a girl named Li-Li got married and went to live with her husband and mother-in-law. In a very short time, Li-Li found that she couldn't get along with her mother-in-law at all. Their personalities were very different, and Li-Li was angered by many of her mother-in-law's habits. In addition, she criticized Li-Li constantly. Days passed, and weeks passed. Li-Li and her mother-in-law never stopped arguing and fighting. But what made the situation even worse was that, according to ancient Chinese tradition, Li-Li had to bow to her mother-in-law and obey her every wish. All the anger and unhappiness in the house was causing Li-Li's poor husband great distress. (When two women, fight, its always a wise man who solves it.) Finally, Li-Li could not stand her mother-in-law's bad temper and dictatorship any longer, and she decided to do something about it. Li-Li went to see her father's good friend, Mr. Huang, who sold herbs. She told him the situation and asked if he would give her some poison so that she could solve the problem once and for all. Mr. Huang thought for a while, and finally said, Li-Li, I will help you solve your problem, but you must listen to me and obey what I tell you. Li-Li said, Yes, Mr. Huang, I will do whatever you tell me to do. Mr. Huang went into the back room, and returned in a few minutes with a package of herbs. He told Li-Li, You can't use a quick-acting poison to get rid of your mother-in-law, because that would cause people to become suspicious. Therefore, I have given you a number of herbs that will slowly build up poison in her body. Every other day prepare some delicious meal and put a little of these herbs in her serving. Now, in order to make sure that nobody suspects you when she dies, you must be very careful to act very friendly towards her. Don't argue with her, obey her every wish, and treat her like a queen. Li-Li was so happy. She thanked Mr. Huang and hurried home to start her plot of murdering her mother-in-law. Weeks went by, and months went by, and every other day, Li-Li served the specially treated food to her mother-in-law. She remembered what Mr. Huang had said about avoiding suspicion, so she controlled her temper, obeyed her mother-in-law, and treated her like her own mother. After six months had passed, the whole household had changed. Li-Li had practiced controlling her temper so much that she found that she almost never got mad or upset. She hadn't had an argument with her mother-in-law in six months because she now seemed much kinder and easier to get along with. The mother-in-law's attitude toward Li-Li changed, and she began to love Li-Li like her own daughter. She kept telling friends and relatives that Li-Li was the best daughter-in-law one could ever find. Li-Li and her mother-in-law were now treating each other like a real mother and daughter. Li-Li's husband was very happy to see what was happening. One day, Li-Li came to see Mr. Huang and asked for his help again. She said, Dear Mr. Huang, please help me to keep the poison from killing my mother-in-law! She's changed into such a nice woman, and I love her like my own mother. I do not want her to die because of the poison I gave her. Mr. Huang smiled and nodded his head. Li-Li, there's nothing to worry about. I never gave you any poison. The herbs I gave you were vitamins to improve her health. The only poison was in your mind and your attitude toward her, but that has been all washed away by the love which you gave to her. MORAL: Have you ever realized that how you treat others is exactly how they will treat you? There is a wise Chinese saying: 'The person who loves others will also be loved in return.' God might be trying to work in another person's life through you. If this message has touched your heart please forward it to your friends so they too can join in the power of prayer. You just never know who might need it. Lets make the lessons-from-others-lives 'unforgettable' else we may be taught in an unforgettable lesson.
