[Goanet]INDUSTRY: Sesa Goa up on strong growth forecasts

2005-06-24 Thread Frederick Noronha (FN)
Sesa Goa up on strong growth forecasts Wednesday, 22 June , 2005, 08:16
http://sify.com/finance/fullstory.php?id=13878230

Kolkata: The Sesa Goa stock is active on the bourses over the
possibility of continuing strong bottomline growth this fiscal also.

After last fiscal's impressive performance by this iron ore and pig iron
exporter on global demand and robust margins, the company has
recommended a total dividend of 250 per cent. It has also made a 1:1
bonus issue.

The stock on Tuesday finished firm at Rs 603.20 with a traded quantity
of 3.44 lakh, higher than the two-week average of 2.67 lakh shares on
the Bombay Stock Exchange.

According to analysts, the company, controlled by the Mitsui group of
Japan, is expected to fare well this fiscal amid softening of iron ore
and pig iron prices.

The net profit may grow steadily this fiscal too on upward annual
revision in the long-term contracts. The market seems to suffer from a
general confusion on indications of a weakening demand from China,
Europe and the US and a downward pressure on global ore prices, an
industry expert commented.

This apparent confusion is being used by some as a mop-up opportunity.
The promoters hold around 51 per cent of the stock while 22 per cent is
held by public and 10.64 per cent by FIIs.

Some analysts expect that the EPS may be Rs 150 plus this fiscal. Sesa
Goa' EPS has grown to Rs 117.47 in 2004-05 from Rs 50.90 in 2003-04.

According to P.K. Mukherjee, Director (Finance) of the company, the
overall price increase for iron ore supplies for 2005-06 could be
between 42 per cent and 45 per cent. However, he explained, that the
price of coke, which had contributed a net profit of around Rs 150 crore
out of the total profits of Rs 462 crore, may not be repeated this
fiscal.

Coke is largely meant for domestic market and it is witnessing a cost
escalation on one hand and price deceleration on the other, Mukherjee
added.

For the Chinese market, the price revision was much better than the
previous year, but not high as the Japan Steel Mill (JSM) mark-up of
71.5 per cent. The Chinese market contributes about 50 per cent of its
iron ore export basket, while the rest is for Europe and Pakistan.

Regarding the prospecting rights for iron ore, acquired in Jharkhand
recently, he said it would take at least one to one-and-a-half years to
reach the point of seeking mining rights.

He, however, explained that the company was open to the idea of setting
up a pig iron plant if it was put forward as a pre-condition for mining
and export of iron ore.

Nowaiteaarghh!!! They are known for their madness too! I was born in

Dear Clinton,

Your spread-out village ancestry makes it difficult to pin down your exact
heritage but I would think your earliest childhood memories are the best
hook from which to take your origins. If you earliest childhood memories
were of Moira then you are definitely a Moidekar. But seeing as how you
come from good Aldona stock and I can't understand how you settled in
Benaulim of all places. Who did you vote for?

Forget taking your identity from Mumbai. A post-natal week hardly qualifies
you. And as for Nachinola, the characterless village whose sole purpose of
existence is to be a buffer between Moira and Aldona, the less said the better.

In my opinion, considering your origins, you will do well in some business
that has to do with lifting people's spirits up - entertainment, religion,
alcohol vending...

[Goanet]We need real freedom fighters

2005-06-24 Thread Vivian D'Souza
Forget about all those dudes who call themselves or
who the previous government called Freedom fighters
so that they could get government pensions. While
there were real freedom fighters who put their lives
on the line to seek freedom from Portuguese tyranny,
they have been overshadowed by hundreds of faux
freedom fighters and others still fighting illusory
battles against the colonialists. What a farce.

What we need today is a new breed of freedom fighters,
who will fight for clean government, and upstanding
citizen politicians to clean up the mess that the
current crop of politicians have created.
Will Goa and Goans ever experience true freedom ?

In an open public forum nothing should be banned,

whatever he/she wants. If people want to copy and

/24-7PressRelease/ - Goa, India, June 24, 2005 - Here is how you can
make your holiday to Goa absolutely FREE ! Consider how much you pay for
Dental treatment in Europe or America ...are the long lines and
frustrating long waits at an NHS dentist wearing you down ? Compare our
pricing with that of any NHS service or private practice for that
matter, we will leave the competition behind.

Lets put in a simple scenario...You are living in the UK, and this year
you have chosen GOA, India to be your holiday destination.

Cost of charter flight: 250-350 pounds

Cost of Hotel: 200-300 pounds for 2 weeks

Cost of Food/Entertainment: 200 pounds

On an average we are looking at 600 pounds per person for the entire
holiday.

Now consider this, in the UK an average crown costs you 200 pounds,
teeth whitening 300 pounds, a bridge for 1 missing tooth needs 3 crowns
so you spend 600 pounds. You have tooth whitening and a bridge put
in ..it would cost you 900 pounds ...Now , at our surgery you would
spend 180+60=240 pounds a grand saving of 660 pounds ..isn't that a

[Goanet]Parrikars straw- house

2005-06-24 Thread sandeep heble
Never in the wildest of dreams would I have imagined
that a short drive that I was to have a couple of days
back would turn into a nightmarish mis-adventure. It
was an experience that will remain etched in my
memories for a long time. It had been pouring cats and
dogs throughout the day. When the rains subsided a
little bit, I, along with a friend of mine, set out
from my house which is located in St. Inez and
proceeded towards the Miramar beach in my Maruti Van.

To my horrors, the road which so beautifully had been
built a few months back resembled more like a river.
Before I could have turned back half of my car was
submerged into the water. Things got worse a few
moments later as my car got stalled and stranded in
the middle of the road. Both I and my friend got fully
drenched while we unsuccessfully tried to get the
stranded car off the main road and I then had to pay
some street urchins quite a huge sum to get the car
off.

My own case was not an isolated one. I saw pedestrians
wading through knee and waist-deep water in the dark
as most of the imported street-lights along the
stretch of the road were not working. The two-wheeler
riders were perhaps the worst hit and they were having
as much difficulty pushing their stalled bikes as
mountaineers would have in scaling “Mount Everest”. I
also noticed heavy water-logging near the bus stop and
I pitied the plight of the commuters who would face
great difficulties in entering and alighting from the
bus to the ground.

A friend of mine who owns a shop on that road
mentioned to me how the rainwater, mixed with
uncleared street garbage, had entered into his
business establishment creating an awful stink and
affecting his business. While he used to do brisk
business otherwise, the huge craters near his shop had
driven away all his customers and the authorities whom
he had complained to were just refusing to pay heed.

In the night, the Goan news channels flashed images of
the sad and sorry plight of Goa’s Capital City. My wet
experience had its telling effect on me and for a
couple of days I ended up landing sick in the bed. The
predicament I had been in made me realize how
Parrikar’s grand talks of having converted Panjim into
a dream city a la Cannes were nothing but his own
grand delusions. All that he had done was apply
mascara, lipstick, rouge and some cosmetic touches to
the surface of the city and create and illusion that
was bound to disappear sooner rather than later.

It took only a few hours of cloudburst for the chinks
in Parrikar’s tall claims to be exposed. When that
happened, the “straw-house” that he had built by
spending crores of rupees had collapsed. While after a
scorching summer, one would have thought that the
rains would provide some respite to the citizens of
the city, the Rain-God instead turned out to be the
most unlikely “ugly bad wolf” who had huffed and had
puffed and had brought the city down.

The verdict was now loud and clear: that Panjim was no
more a dream city, it resembled more like an obstacle
course full of trenches and water blocks and its
inadequate infrastructure had made even a brief spell
a nightmare for its residents; that Parrikar was a
good and an efficient leader otherwise but his
over-obsession in creating the ‘IFFI’ infrastructure
in a ‘jiffy’ had cost the city and its residents
dearly.

The downpour also exposed the corruption and
incompetence of the civic authorities led by the
“corrupt-gambler”. Although works for desilting of
storm water drains, asphalting of roads, cleaning of
sewer lines and pruning of trees had been sanctioned,
the city commissioner simply refused to issue work
orders because his palms had not been greased. And his
actions meant that it had rained only ‘woes’ in the
city.

That a relatively short-lived downpour could cause
such a great havoc in Goa’s “multi-Crore-IFFI” city is
a tragedy. That another political party, instead of
trying to help the civic authorities in clearing up
the water-logged areas, decided to seek political
mileage through it by organizing a swimming contest is
another great tragedy. That those who show utter
callousness and disregard for human life and dignity
and inflict misery on thousands of city residents and
yet continue to remain in office is the greatest
tragedy of them all!

Cheers

Suzie Coelho is Goan, and there's no doubt about it.

When her father came for the first international goan

suzie's father. i told him, i know and that's it.
later, after his death I said something to the effect
that suzie was married to sonny bono for a short time,
and she replied to me saying that she was married to

Her brother is a professor of music in Calgary.
In this I now forget her father's first name. but he
was joint editor of the post-convention report, change

he didn;t work for world bank, but the health dept. he
was a psychologist, i think. he invited me to come to

he didn''t know much of goa. he used to bug prof. jose

 Indian Immigration Conspiracy- Be careful

This is a well organized conspiracy by Indian
 Immigration, Police,
Customs and Air India staff with networking at all
 the Indian
International Airports. Be watchful when ever you
 give your passport
to Immigration/Customs/Air India staff. The pass
 port can be easily
tampered and can create trouble to you. They have
 found easy way of
 making money from NRIs.

This is the way it works:
At the time of the passenger's departure, if the
 passenger is not
looking at the officer while he is stamping the
 exit, the officer
very cleverly tears away one of the page from the
 passport. When the
passenger leaves the immigration counter, the case
 is reported on his
computer terminal with full details. Now all over
 India they have got
full details of the passenger with Red Flag flashing
 on the Passport
number entered by the departure immigration officer.
 They have made
their money by doing above. On arrival next time, he
 is interrogated.
Subject to the passenger's period of stay abroad,
 his income and
standing etc., the price to get rid of the problem
 is settled by the
Police and Immigration people. If someone argues,
 his future is
spoiled because there are always some innocent
 fellows who think the
honesty is the basis of getting justice in India.

Please advise every passenger to be careful at the
 airport. Whenever
they hand over the passport to the counters of Air
 India, or
immigration or the customs, they must be vigilant,
 should not remove
eyes from the passport even if the officer in
 front tries to divert
 their attention.

Also, please pass this information to all friends,
 media men and
 important politicians.

Every month 20-30 cases are happening all over India
 to rob the NRIs
the minute he lands. Similar case has happened with
 Aramco's
 Arifuddin.

He was traveling with his family. They had six
 passports. They got the
visa of America and decided to go via Hyderabad from
 Jeddah. They
 reached
Hyderabad. Stayed about a month a left for States.

All,

I was doing some non-historical research at the Panjim Central Library
this morning and this is what I learnt:

Zubin Metha was born Zerome Mendes and
grew up in Salcette. As a young boy, while playing at
Colva beach, he got the idea to become a conductor and took the stage name
Zubin Metha.

It is not well known that his first job was a bus
conductor on the Vasco-Panjim route which inspired him to Philharmonic
conducting.

In fact, a bus conductor job inspires most to
anything except bus conducting.

Englebert Humperdick was born in Chicalim.
His birth name was Joao but when he
visited Benaulim some people called him John.
To avoid any confusion and a
Portuguese-English conflict, he settled
on the name Englebert Humperdick which is spelt in Romi Konkani as
Englebert Humperdick. He used
to hang out in Vasco as a teenager
where the girls ignored him, hence
the song A MAN WITHO

[Goanet]Off topic. Development in China

2005-06-24 Thread Sachin Phadte
This could be a little irrelevant on this forum. However, I thought members

MEMBERS of an Indian business delegation to China , who were there on behalf
of a leading industry chamber of the country, were , during a sightseeing
tour of Beijing , visibly impressed by the many state-of-the art flyovers
that crisscross the forbidden city. The delegation's leader , who couldn't
stop marvelling at the high level of infrastructure development in China ,
was cut short by his local cab driver , who informed him , rather matter of
factly: My mother , along with hundred other families used to stay at the
very spot under the flyover. They were given a day's notice before the whole
place was razed to the ground. Needless to say , it suitably dampened the
delegation's feel-good spirit.

[Goanet]Konkani and Roman Script

2005-06-24 Thread konknni kendra
Sir,

Kindly give publicity to the following article.

ROMAN SCRIPT THE SOUL OF KONKANI
Nelson Lopes

   R. Venkatraman, the former President of India, advocated the use of Roman
script for all Indian languages. His noble vision was unity of script and
National Integration. It would also facilitate the learning of Indian
languages. Take the case of a person who wants to learn Tamil, but is
unfamiliar with its script. It would be next to impossible for a non
Tamilian to learn Tamil. First of all one has to master the script and then
the language. A person who is familiar with the universally widely used
Roman Script would learn Tamil or for that matter any Indian language if it
is taught in Roman script.
In this age of Internet and information technology, where the whole world
has been reduced to a global village, the Roman script is gaining wide
acceptability world-wide. It is a simple linear script and is computer and
user friendly. Turkey, Swahili in Africa and the Indo-China region states
have all resorted to the use of Roman script for their languages. The
Chinese, Japanese, Punjabi, Sindhi and Kashmiri are using Roman script for
e-mail correspondence. Therefore it becomes easier for any tourist visiting
Malaysia or Vietnam, to read the sign boards and his destinations, though in
the local languages but written in Roman Script.
Take the case of India where there are hundreds of languages and dialects
written in various scripts, wouldn't an Indian traveling from North to South
find it easier to travel if all the sign boards were written in the Roman
script? The Indian Army uses Hindi, written in the Roman script to instruct
its recruits. As the army recruits come from diverse regions speaking
different languages, can anybody dare to call the Indian Army or President
R. Venkatraman, antinational or divisive? Have both the Indian Army and the
former President deviated from the cultural mainstream of India? or become
less patriotic? Is our nationalism dependent on the script we use for a
particular language?
Ever since the Dalgado Konknni Akademi was established to unite and
motivate the sidelined Konkani writers, readers and speakers of books
written in Roman script and enthusiasts, who sacrificed their life for the
cause of Konkani, but denied any benefits. Loud noises are heard from self
proclaimed defendants of Konkani, they accuse the efficient bearers of the
DKA as divisive elements and antinational. They also label them as
activists alienated from the cultural mainstream of India. By the way,
where is the unity amongst the Konkani forces? Why are lakhs of rupees spent
on Konkani by the Government used by only a few? A coterie of script
fundamentalists whose only aim is to share the booty amongst themselves.
Though the language bill was passed in the year 1987, Konkani as the
official language remains only on paper. The bill has never been
implemented and never will. Majority of government schools and private
schools run by the majority community continue to promote Marathi and not
Konkani. The Antruzi dialect Konkani that is foisted on the unwilling public
has not found wide acceptability. Only a small percentage of Goans speak
and use Antruzi Konkani dialect which is spoken by Saraswats, whereas the
majority abhors the use of Antruzi as they feel it is not their language.
The Antruzi Konkani can and will only survive with the government support.
If the government financial support is withdrawn, the written Antruzi will
die a natural death and it only will remain as a spoken dialect on lips of
these small percentage of Goans. At present it is mainly kept alive by
government grants. In Goa there is more readership and support for written
Marathi than Konkani written in Devanagari script. The most of the
religious rituals of the majority community are held in Marathi and not in
Antruzi Konkani dialect. This itself proves that the majority community
does not support or encourage Antruzi Konkani dialect in religious, cultural
and educational fields.
Take the case of Roman script Konkani, which uses the Bardesi dialect.
Ninety eight percent of Goans understand this form of Konkani. Literature
in this variant existed right from the sixteenth century. The Tiatrs that
uses this Bardesi Konkani is highly successful and today its turn over is in
multi crores. Hundreds of cassettes of Kantaram are released every year.
VCD'S of Tiatrs are flooding the market by the hundreds and are bought by
the people over the counter. Vavraddeancho Ixtt weekly and monthly
magazines are sold by the thousands by paper vendors. Novels written in
Roman script sell like hot cakes the moment they are released. Religious
hymns, Bible readings, masses and other religious literature and church
bulletins are in the Bardesi version Konkani. This shade of Konkani is
sought to be suppressed and eliminated by the Devanagari

NHRC pulls up state govts on disabled-friendly infrastructure
--
Pulling up state governments for non-availability of
disabled-friendly infrastructure, NHRC today said economic
considerations cannot be put up as excuse for not fulfilling
constitutional guarantees to put them into place.

Terming imposition of physical and social barriers as some
of the most insidious forms of discrimination against the
differently abled, National Human Rights Commission
chairperson, Mr Justice (retd) A S Anand said the Persons
with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights
and Full Participation) Act, 1995, had compiled provisions
concerning barrier-free physical and transport environments.

These measures actually draw on Articles 15 and 16 of the
Constitution, which guarantee access to public places and
employment without discrimination of any kind, he said at
a National Conference on Disability organised by NHRC here.

However, implementation of these arrangements has been
lopsided and states often attribute this to a lack of economic
capacity. Constitutional guarantees cannot be permitted to be
set at naught on economic considerations, he said.

Mr Justice Anand said there were 21.9 million differently abled
persons in India - 2.13 per cent of its population and
disability rights were a new dimension in the human rights
framework.

There was need to develop awareness about these rights among
legal practitioners, academicians and government functionaries,
he said.

With the maturation of democracy, the content of rights too
expands creating a new set of obligations for duty holders. Thus,
a dynamic, broad and contect specific policy on continuing
education in the human rights framework is imperative, he said.

RE: [Goanet]RE: Freedom Fighters.

2005-06-24 Thread Nasci Caldeira

Hi all,

I agree with what Tom and Carolina, that Dr. Wilie, whateve else he may be,
is not a 'casteist'; I also agree that 'Freedom Fighter' is a matter of
interpretation.

Accordingly I announce myself as a 'Freedom Fighter'. I have never stated
such a claim before. However I will not make any claim for special awards or
pensions or any favours from the Govt. or the Community, unlike the many
fake? freedom fighters who have added their names to the list during Mr.
Parrikars torrid communal reign.

At the time when Morarji Dessai was Ch. Mantri of the earstwhile Bombay
State, a meeting was convened, at the Greens Hotel, at Apollo Bunder,
Bombay. The Forum was titled: Focus On Goa. The Greens Hotel was where the
new Taj Tower Bldg. now stands. It had beautifl views of the Gateway of
India, and the harbour; this was the time when Bombay was really and truly
beautiful; unlike now, when one has to run far and wide in search of beauty
unencumbered! I was present at this forum and the nationalist in me had me
support and vote for the actions as a whole, taken at its conclusion.

At this meeting were present, besides the Ch Minister, Valerian Cardinal
Gracious, prof. Aloysius Soares, prof. Armand Menezes, prof. Roque Correa
Afonso, Dr. Simon Fernandes who at one time was Mayor of Bombay; among
others whose names I cannot recollect, right now, (and sadly I was surprised
there were no hindus from Goa); and a host of other small people like me.

It was concluded at this forum, that instead of waiting for the Govt. to
send an army, to liberate Goa; the people volunteers should walk into Goa
peacefully; that was called 'Sathyagraha! This was the first ever effort
made publicly to discuss the regime in Goa and bring about freedom. I had
also secretly enrolled to go into Goa and get views etc from the local
people, so as to gauge the public opinion on this; and we had to go thru the
south of Goa, via Majali, in Karwar, on foot, thru no man's land et al;
Within a month or two, came into being the first 'Sathyagrahis' marching in;
and who were the sathyagrahis? they were the unemployed poor people from
Maharastra (not Goa) and the Portuguese had no trouble after giving adequate
warnings, to fire at these people and martyr them; This is the infamous
incident of 'Do Do Marg! Then came in Nehru with his insulting words to a
rep. of the Time Mazagine. and so on it went, until the day Krishna Menon's
army marched in. Peaceful march soon turned into war like action and finally
war!

See, I can also call myself a Freedom Fighter too!

Freedom Fighters.
The Portuguese government during the 50's and on the 19th. December 1961
was

a dictatorship, and if I am not mistaken the Late Dr. oliveira Salazar was
in power.
At that particular time anyone accused of posting a simple anti-portuguese
poster was considered a criminal and languished in portuguese jails in
Aquada for over 8 to 10 years.

After the liberation of Goa there were many who claimed to be freedom
fighters. Some claimed that they had fought for freedom from other parts
of

India. There were also others who wrote books and letters against the
portuguese from Bombay and if they had the courage to visit Goa, jail was
imminent.
Concluding how to define a freedom fighter is a matter of enterpretation.

[Goanet]RE: Blindspot In Meaningful Aviation Planning

2005-06-24 Thread Philip Thomas
SPECK IN THE OTHERS EYE,IGNORING THE MOTE IN YOUR OWN

With utmost respect I beg to submit that 'there are
none so blind as those who refuse to see, and none so
deaf as those who refuse to hear. And so on it can go
on. Since I am sufficiently stimulated by the loud
talk of the Article into NOT wanting to be categorised
as ,,,none so dumb as those who refuse to speak, I
am constrained to FOCUS attention to some of the
FALLACIES underying the viewpoint of Mr Philip Thomas, which are discernible
to my limited and UNTUTORED perception:...[gerry ferns, June 23]

Welcome to the discussion about aviation in Goa! Wish you had spoken up
earlier these past few months. The disconnect might have been a little less.
But better late than never, as they say! Hope you will find time to
familiarise yourself with the archives before jumping to conclusions again
on this subject.

Your post can basically be carved into three parts. The bulk of it, items
(c) to (k), is a forceful justification for an airport at Mopa. My quick
reaction is that I agree with you 100% on these 9 specific points. The only
trouble is, of late nobody (least of all yours truly) is questioning the
need for Mopa! So all you have succeeded in doing is demolishing a straw man
which might be a source of great satisfaction anyway.

The other problem is that your post is such an elaborate justification for
Mopa that you have left yourself open to criticism about a 'blind spot',
specifically, your apparent blind spot about the role of the miltary in the
constraints faced by Dabolim in particular and civil aviation in India in
general. All I will say for the time being is that it doesnt help to make
mother hood statements such as under items (a) and (b). The onus of proof
about effective dual use and integrated security is on the military and not
for civilians to accept as gospel from them. In my books, the Air Force
seems to be visibly demonstrating much more flexibility at Pune than the
Navy is showing in Dabolim! Maybe the concentrated industry lobby there is
much more potent than the fragmented tourism and travel lobby here. If you
have concrete information regarding Dabolim pls do feel free to share it.

This brings me to the final point at (l) in which you have said:
l}[Fallacy] that it is utterly neccessary to protect the STATUS QUO and not
build another Airport in North Goa, as this would be against the interests
of ALL
GOANS/INDIANS.

COME ON MR THOMAS RESPECT THE READERS OF GOANET.LET NOT MILK BE PASSED OFF
AS SEASONED WINE

You have to come clean and say whether you want Dabolim to continue with
civilian flights ( remember your own rhetoric about dual use?) or whether
you want to relinquish Dabolim to the Navy for interminable training of
carrier based pilots in the heart of an international tourist attraction.

P.S. If you see milk as wine you may have a real problem of visual acuity!
Cheers!

Re: Telephone Adalat, long delays in release of telephone directory

Sir,

The unusually long delay in the release of an updated telephone
directory has put us subscribers to immense difficulties, hardship, and
loss of productivity. Each time we need to locate a phone number in Goa,
one has to dial the enquiry, which results in a wastage of time, energy
and resources. In addition, because of the expansion of the telecom
services in Goa and other related reasons, a large number of phone
numbers have been changed in recent times, only adding to the severity
of the problem.

In any region, the telephone directory is an important tool for
commerce, professional life, and general smooth functioning of the
economy and society. From the housemaker to the student, from the small
businessman to someone searching for a shop dealing in a certain product
-- everyone needs the service of an uptodate and accurate telephone
directory.

We, in Goa, have been deprived the same for the last three to five
years. At the time when the last telephone directory was released, only
a limited number of copies were put out in circulation. By the repeated
delays in releasing the same, Goa has been immensely inconvenienced.

At the same time, allegegations have been made about the circumstances
under which the previous tender for printing of the telephone directory
was issued. In this context, it is essential that a thorough
investigation is made into the same, to ensure that the citizen is not
put to undue harassment due to questionable decisions of the
authorities, who are expected to act in public interest.

In connection with the telephone directory, I have myself suggested
repeatedly in the past -- and would do so again -- that the entire
directory needs to be categorised on one, common alphabetical listing.

In today's context, it makes no sense whatsoever to divide phone
subscribers according to the exchange they are located in. Goa has a
common dialling facility, and whether I live in Saligao, Taleigao,
Pernem or Canacona in no way affects the way anyone needs to phone me.
Exchange-wise listing made sense when Goa's exchanges were not directly
connected with one another, and a trunk-call had to be made to dial up
someone living, say, 30 kms away.

Those days are, thankfully, gone.

Today, if subscribers are segregated on an exchange-by-exchange basis,
it becomes extremely difficult for anyone to locate a subscribers phone
number. If I'm searching for a telephone number of someone living in
Utorda or Mashem, it becomes very difficult for me to locate the person
if I am not aware which exchange services the Utorda or Mashem areas. If
someone doesn't know that I live in Saligao, it will become next to
impossible for him or her to locate my phone number. This is a ludicrous
situation!

While on this issue, I would also suggest that Goa Telecom considers
including a listing of Goa-linked websites and email addresses (of those
who are willing to be listed, and surely all official numbers of public
servants). Private initiatives on this front have already been
undertaken, and it would be helpful if Goa Telecom undertook the same
too.

Sincerely yours,

Frederick Noronha.
