[Goanet] The Knowledge Commission - GOA
It gives me great pleasure to share with you all a post recd. from Professor Peter R. deSouza rb 0 Dear Mr Barreto, has been recently constituted by the Government of Goa to prepare a Vision Document on education in Goa. Education has long since been a topic for hot debate and quite a few of us have found ourselves mulling over questions like, why are so many thousands of Goans unemployed or under-employed? Why do Goan lag behind in competitive exams? Why can't education in Goa be more job oriented? Why does Goa have so few opportunities such that all our bright students leave the state for foreign shores? etc. Quite a few of us have our own personal analysis and some answers too! The Goa Knowledge Commission hopes to take a critical look at education for its employment generating capacity. It wants to do this not without enlisting your thoughts, opinions, suggestions and ideas. For this it has set up a website www.knowledgeforgoa.com We know that you have often wished that policy formulators have a more democratic approach. We know you have often wished for a forum to express your thoughts. Here is your chance. Visit the bulletin board of the Knowledge Commission and post your inputs. We assure you your thoughts matter. We would also appreciate it if you can forward this mail to the Goa Day list serve and like minded friends and urge them to visit the site and post their comments too With warm regards Peter R.deSouza -- - Delhi: Professor Peter R. deSouza, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, 29 Rajpur Road, New Delhi 110 054 Tel: 11-23831290 Telefax: 011- 23891012 Goa: Dr Celsa Pinto, Member Secretary, Directorate of Education, 18 June Road, Panjim, Goa 403 500 Tel: (0832) 2223237 Fax: (0832) 2227874 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Website: www.knowledgeforgoa.com Freinds , Please share this post with Goans wherever they may be - and encourage them to PARTICIPATE - Visit the bulletin board of the Knowledge Commission and post your inputs. [Goanet] Mario, Muriel bag Malvina Athaide Award
CONGRATULATIONS ! Mario and Muriel, rene ooo Mario, Muriel bag Malvina Athaide Award BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, DEC 18 - Mario Mascarenhas and Muriel DSouza from Saligao have bagged the Malvina Athaide Award for their outstanding efforts in advocacy for social justice in Goa. The award was given away by Malvinas sister on the first day of the Goa State Consultation on Trafficking in Women & Children held at the Caritas Holiday Home in St Inez on Saturday. It was instituted by Malvinas husband, Dileep Athaide, after her death in Vancouver, Canada, on September 25, 2004. Malvina, originally from Saligao in Bardez, before settling abroad, was at the forefront in her work with the underprivileged and marginalized in the villages of Pernem taluka in North Goa. She and her group also worked with hutment dwellers in Porvorim educating them about their basic rights. It was during this time that she met Dileep, whom she married in 1984 and left for Canada. But even from there she never lost sight of her fight for social justice in Goa. Dileep said it was his wish to create an award that would honour Malvinas memory by recognizing the work of individuals or organisations involved in social justice. __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam?
