I was curious how Reita looked and here is a picture I found (on the
following link,

Does anyone know what happened to Imelda, the presenter on All India
Radio? Always curious what she looked like?

[Goanet] GOA London Ruby n Reita Faria

2006-06-12 Thread Tony Barros
Hi Gabe n Mervyn

Thanx Gabe for another flash of 1966 nostalgia. Since we had no
TV in Tanzanian Mainland, coupled with the fact that we could not get
proper radio transmission upcountry , I had to rely on the BBC to get
World Cup Updates from my hometown in southern Tanzania.

By the same token, I could not get a chance to see Reita Faria when
she visited Tanzania and Kenya the following year-(with her mother as
her champerone)-as I was studying in the Lake Victoria port of
Mwanza in north-west Tanzania.( Note how she spells her name).

You did mention my teacher in Dar es Salaam - the late Amorito
Nazareth who was the President of the GOA when I first visited London
in 1974.

Amorito- whose family hails from Tabora in western Tanzania- was one
of the first goans from East Africa to migrate to the West in 1961
after Britain granted independence to their four East African
territories and colony in the early to mid-sixties. (Tabora is where
Tanzania's first President and world statesman- Julius Nyerere
completed his high school and later taught before entering politics).

rgds.

Tony.
