And on a personal note, my soft corner for the name can be traced to an uncle, Cecil Pinto: his early (1955) act of double 'treason' meant splitting abodes - London and Lisbon. His children went 'Porto', but they speak a delightful variety of East London cockney that no longer survives in the India Dock stretch.
