[Goanet]Good news for Whisky drinkers

Single malt whisky can beat the threat of cancer, thanks to high
levels of a powerful antioxidant that kills cancer cells, a medical
conference in Scotland was told Sunday.

Jim Swan, an independent consultant to the global drinks industry,
said that according to research single malt whisky contains "more
ellagic acid than red wine".

Swan, a doctor, told the EuroMedLab 2005 conference explained that
ellagic acid is an effective "free radical scavenger" that "absorbs or
"eats up" rogue cells that occur in the body during eating.

"The free radicals can break down the DNA structure of our existing
cell, which then leads to the risk of the body making replacement
rogue cancer cells," he said.

"So, whether you indulge in the odd tipple, or you are a serious
connoisseur, whisky can protect you from cancer – and science proves
it"

Lesley Walker of Cancer Research UK was dubious.

"There is considerable data documenting the link between drinking
excess alcohol and the increased risk of a number of cancers,
particularly in smokers," she said.

"Ellagic acid is a powerful antioxidant, but that does not mean it is
necessary to hit the bottle," she said, noting that the ellagic acid
can also be found in soft fruits.

The EuroMedLab 2005 conference in Glasgow, hosted by the Association
of Clinical Biochemists, runs until Thursday, with more than 3,000
researchers, doctors and science and technology companies expected to
attend.

RESPONSE: It is not good news for all whisky drinkers; only the
connoisseurs or drinkers of single malt whisky. The best, I have found
and one which some while ago, was sold at auction for charity for many
thousands of pounds, is Glenfiddich - pure smooth nectar drunk neat or
on the rocks.

For inbibers that cannot reach out to nectars, J&B, is, I think, a single
malt
whysky, and quite affordably priced.

RESPONSE: A good Whisky indeed but not a single malt!

http://www.thedrinkshop.com/products/nlpdetail.php?prodid=285

J & B RARE

Description:
Forty-two different Scotch malt and Scotch grain whiskies are blended
to create the subtle yet rich and complex flavour of J&B Rare.

The smooth taste of many fine scotch malt whiskies, predominantly from
the Speyside region of Scotland, is delicately freshened and revealed
by carefully chosen scotch grain whiskies to give J&B Rare its highly
distinctive and balanced character...

Comment: After Glenfiddich perhaps, a good single malt to tickle my
taste buds would Glenmorangie:-

http://www.thedrinkshop.com/products/nlpdetail.php?prodid=285

Since 1843, Glenmorangie distillery has been producing its famous malt
here on the shores of the Dornoch Firth. Though the complex of
buildings has seen many changes over the years, Glenmorangie is still
handcrafted to this day by the Sixteen Men of Tain using tried and
tested methods that have been passed down from generation to
generation..

Comment: As stated, the standard is Glenfiddich. £35,000 was paid for
a bottle in 1992 in Italy.

You can have one for around £20. Now I am sure all you Gulfies will be
buying a bottle to take back to Goa!

Have a good one, cheers.

Single malt whisky: 'Glenfiddich' is the best that I know of. It has a nice
mellow taste and soothes my palate, best! Then there is Glenlivet, of course
and may be a host of other names.

A bottle of Glenfiddich should cost anywhere between the cost of Johny Black
and Chivas Regal; it beats me, when u say it was auctioned for thousands of
pounds for a charity! Was this a whole cask and vintage stuff that you are
refering to?
Whatever the price, there is no better whisky for me, when and wherever it
is available! I even prefer 'Glenfiddich' to Chivas Regal; thats a matter of
taste, of course!
