Apparently the vehicle was attached to the escort cell at Vasco and was transporting prisoners back to the port town after they had undergone a medical examination at GMC. (GT)
IFFI PLANS RUN INTO TROUBLE: Resolving unanimously to oppose any development on Aguada plateau-one of the twin sites chosen for a permanent site for the international film festival-villagers of Sinquerim are in the act of requisitioning a gram Sabha to discuss the matter in detail. Faced with problems of garbage, narrow access to the beach area and water shortage, they felt that it was best to leave the last green frontier in this part of the coastal belt untouched and pledged to protect it. Sinquerim Heritage and Nature Club, which had been formed to resist the setting up of a recreational park on the plateau, which was finally scrapped recently after opposition from the locals, has pledged to protect the biodiversity and maintain the pristine beauty of the village. (GT) PANAJI SITTING ON SEWAGE TIME BOMB: The capital city of the country's number one State is sitting on a sewage bomb and time is ticking away. Over 50 per cent of the 11,287 sewage connections in Panaji and surrounding areas of Taleigao are nearly 20 years old and could burst at any moment. (GT) PWD DELAYED REPORT: Health Minister Dr Suresh Amonkar said there was a delay on the part of the PWD to inform the Health department, Food and Drugs Administration, Corporation of City of Panaji and the Collectorate about the contamination of tap water due to inflow of sewage. (GT) SIX JAUNDICE CASES AT QUEPEM: Six jaundice cases have been detected in Quepem taluka. This came to light after a team of doctors and sanitary inspectors attached to the PHC, Quepem, conducted a survey of private clinics in the area. (GT) JAUNDICE PHOBIA GRIPS VASCO: The jaundice phobia seems to have gripped the port town, with citizens apprehensive of visiting restaurants. (GT) OVER 100 ILLEGAL FAST FOOD STALLS IN MAPUSA: The 100-odd fast food stalls and eateries are operating illegally in Mapusa. Mapusa Municipal Council's Sudhir Kandolkar informed Herald that none of the fast food stalls and other mobile eateries operating in Mapusa have a valid licence from the MMC, despite the fact that some of them are operating since the last several years.
