I don't know. Anyway, the "debunkers" on this forum may be able to clear the air for us re the following: --- "Strategies to cope with acute stress and trauma" by London hypnotherapist Gregory Antão, is a special article published by the prestigious UK based Institute for Complementary Medicine (ICM). . The article Strategies to cope with acute stress and trauma may be accessed at HypnosNLP.info/ICM-PTSD/ Hypnosis and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) are two such, highly effective Mind Technologies - which are used synergistically and this combination is termed HypnosNLP. Descriptions of how these and other allied techniques can be used to quickly and efficiently improve the 'Life Quality' of stress victims are also discussed. The article may also be accessed directly at the ICM website at www.i-c-m.org.uk during July/August. Thereafter in its "Archive" section. HypnosNLP techniques have also been used to really great effect in treating disorders such as phobias and fears such as "Fear of Flying" in just one or two sessions; For more information, call Gregory Antão on (+44) 0870 1997834 or see his website: www.HypnosNLP.org.uk ; email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Cheers, Gabriel de Figueiredo. There is hypnotism and then there is "hypnotism". Abbe Faria propounded his theories and proved them, inferring the subject as being a state of mind by way of suggestion (I think), and wrote books on the subject (unfortunately for some, in French). The very fact that he said that it is by suggestion means that not all people can be hypnotised. Using this viewpoint, I suppose good salesmen are hynotists indirectly, as they can "suggest" a potential client to buy a certain product even if they came to the shop with no intention of buying. I wish I could say more about this, unfortunately here is where I must stop and pass on the relay to some more knowledgable scientists on the forum. Cheers, Gabriel de Figueiredo. RE: [Goanet]Re: Abbe Faria v/s Mesmer
Indeed, the Pappa of Hypnotism Hypnotism, in the mesmerian sense, had existed throughout millenia, from the earliest anals of human development. Mesmer was a salon-performer, holding seances among the high society and claimed that he was gifted with special powers; so had done his predecessors in the art, court-magicians, seers and such. Custodio Faria effectively demolished that theory with his theory of "Animal Magnetism, (AM)", which he went on to demonstrate practically, with great, unprecedented success. According to Faria, no special gifts were either involved or required, except concentration and will-power. He contended that every human body possessed AM and to effect a hypnotic state it was required that the AM interacted between the hypnotist and the "subject". Thereby Faria established hypnotism/AM as a practicable science and erased its, hitherto, occult status. Thus, his paternity of hypnotism. However, according to Faria, it was essential that there prevail total consent from the subject; in other words without the subject fully submitting to the suggestions of the hypnotist no hypnotic state could be obtainable. Absolute interation. With the spectacular succes of AM-theories first in Paris salons and then at Nimes mesmerism was effectively eclipsed. The house in which Faria spent his years at Nimes bears a plaque in his memory. Alexandre Dumas' Abbe Faria was inspired by the farian effect still felt in Paris when the writer arrived on the scene later on, after Faria had expired. One of the aspects about Abbe Faria, told to me as a student of Don Bosco, Panaji by my teachers was that Abbe Faria disputed the theory put forward by Mesmer. Mesmer claimed that during hypnotism, it was the power from the hypnotist which flowed onto the person, leading the person into a hypnotic trance. Abbe Faria however said that the person was hypnotised through his own power. I am not sure whether Fr. J. Loiola Pereira's query is answered here, but would anyone having knowledge of the work of this great Goan come forward? -- BDSE + Bosco de Sousa Eremita _ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8.
