Who is benefitting from this story? What are the valid
contributions of these people coming to stay in Goa?
They are there for 6 months lounging away from their
cold winters. In places like Tenerife these people
have been asked to get out of the land.

Bernado,
Don't you think the local tourist economy in Goa is
benefitting from the influx of these foreigners? So
what if they are lounging away from their cold
winters? Isn't it better that they come to Goa than
take their money elsewhere? Who in Tenerife is asking
them to get out? Certainly not those who make their
living from tourism. Do I detect a little xenophobia
here? From someone who lives abroad? Pretty ironic
I'd say.

Nein no xeno here. But how much is their contribution
to Goa? Clearly a few have done immensly, such as
David Futers with his computer project, some in NGO
stuff. But many spend times on the hammock. As for the
local tourist economy (benefits) your dear bharat
pinches the cherries. Nuttin fur the Goan I am afraid.

Bernado,
I cannot disagree more. Anyone who comes to Goa for
business or pleasure is a boon to the Goan economy and
a living, walking advertisement for Goa. I believe
India and Goa's growing popularity among foreign
tourists represents an economic windfall to the Goan
economy. I have some relatives in the hotel business
and their opinion is quite the opposite of yours.

The only Goans who are not benefitting are those who

I would like someone like Fred, a freelance
journalist, to interview several people who make their
living from tourism and see what THEY have to say.

Do you expect people to be paid pea nuts or bingtams?
That's why the bingtam kars are flocking to Goa. It is
a haven for them.

Bernado,
I expect people to be paid whatever they are willing
to freely accept from the buyer of their services,
whether it is pea nuts or bingtams or anything else of
value. The transaction is between the buyer and the
seller and is no one else's business.
