Tales from Goa

Priyanka Haldipur finds herself addicted to the energy of good ol Goa.

There lies a thin line between fun life in Bangalore and "funner" life in a
paradise called Goa. It goes by the name of "60-minute flight"! After you
have got over that revelation for the thirtieth time, you sit back and plan
the million things you could do once you hit ground, all of which may just
be abandoned in favour of plan 'B'- comfy hotel bed and room service
throughout, cos' just breathing the air of Goa is enough to salve a spent
soul and make the world feel like a beautiful place again! And "off season"
can't do much to change that. If anything, it makes things a wee bit better
than they could've been mid-December. The hotel rates are slashed to half of
what they are during "season". You will not suffer bumping into hairy, large
men or trampling the teensy toes of ultra-noisy tots with every step you
take. The crowd was just fine and the weather went an extra step to make
life fabulous for hubby dearest and me.

Staying some 40 feet away from the beach is what else but pure joy. You
droop off to the lullaby of the waves and wake up to the same harmony. If
you resist that urge to roll around in bed, and manage to hit the sands even
at 7 am, you can enjoy a long stroll from one end of the beach to the other
in pleasant weather. Not only will you whet up an appetite for a scrumptious
breakfast, it also makes you feel a little less guilty about stuffing your
face like there's no tomorrow. And if it comforts you some more, the sand
works up a great natural pedicure.

The nicest parts, of course, are the sights you encounter on the way. A
fisherman dad initiating his 10-year-old son into the nuances of the trade;
cute little urchins running all over the place excitedly with a plastic
bottle and a giddy, new-found baby crab bouncing inside; beach doggies
following their budding adventure sport entrepreneur-masters as they move
their water scooters into the sea!

Once you're ready for breakfast, walk along the restaurant-lined street
beside your beach and take your pick among the many welcoming places that
you see. Since the somewhat rare items in the Continental spread will be
missed so much once you're back in your city, don't hesitate to order for
that banana pancake with icecream or make a meal out of just blueberry
muffins. Discuss the plan of action between bites if you can. Will it be
North Goa with its temples, churches and beaches, or the South with a new
set of temples, churches and beaches? There are many options available in
conducted tours courtesy Goa Tourism too- apart from 'Traditional Goa',
there's 'Birds of Goa', 'Ancestral Goa', and 'Goa by night'(cruises that
take you past important monuments), among others.

Personally, we felt that a bike was the best way to explore Goa, so there we
were on a rented bike to Fort Aguada from our Calangute hotel. Upon reaching
there, we noticed a bus full of frisky tourists. When a bunch of them passed
us, loud whispers of "Dil Chahta Hai! Dil Chahta Hai!" heard, we realised
why the view from the fort looked so familiar. It also explained the 'Filmy
Chakkar' in bold letters painted across the sides of the bus. Their's was a
film locations tour!

The heat got mildly intolerable which was a cue for us to head to a popular
tavern in Baga. Chilled beer and fun conversation later, we were back in
high spirits. Baga is one of those places that is transformed into a
happening youth joint at night. It has its share of hip pubs, discos and
lounges- so pub-hop all you want.

The next day, we decided to check out churches that were close by, which led
us to Se Cathedral (since Basilica of Bom Jesus and Church of St. Francis of
Assissi had been visited umpteen times during previous trips). We were quite
fascinated by St. Augustine Tower, rather what remains of it. We scanned
through Museum of Christian Art, a stone's throw away from the tower.
"Ancestral Goa"/ Lotoulim (that a Goa travel brochure boasted of) was what
we felt like doing next. A hot, never-ending ride on a busy highway ensued,
but we never did make it to this place that I have come to believe is
mythical. We stopped for directions on the way, but no one seemed to have
heard of 'Lotoulim'. We tried pronouncing it in many different ways, but it
failed to ring a bell with all the Goans we encountered on that ride.

We returned disappointed and I made up for it by buying myself a pair of
fake Crocs. Goa is brimming with them... every street shop displays them in
such pretty colours. I picked crimson! And even wore it to dinner.

The next day we executed plan 'B' and didn't budge from our room, except for
the parasailing in the evening. The lazing was much needed anyway, so that
we could come to terms with returning home to work and responsible actions.
It had been a fun holiday. I just have to close my eyes now to go back to
that land- of choco

[Goanet] Non-Goan Marathi wags his finger at Goans

2008-04-22 Thread Rajan P. Parrikar

To Goanet -

See -

http://oheraldo.in/pagedetails.asp?nid=2975&cid=14

My remarks:

As I have recorded here on Goanet earlier - soon
they will be claiming that Goa's beauty, prosperity,
civil manner etc etc etc are all due to migrants.
But once Goa turns into a sea of excrement - then
the Marxists will step in and release a book with the
title, 'Re-imagining Goa" where it will be claimed
that the beauty and character of Goa and Goans was
always a myth, that no such thing existed, that
ghatis have made Goa and given Goa its "nuance"
"diversity" and "vibrancy."

By the way, purely out of curiosity, who is
"Mandaar Gajananrao Waghmare" (assuming he exists)?

Cedrico,

You have missed out on illegal constructions and the supply of illegal
electricity connections as well as selling Goa to migrants.

It is believed that our CM has no other work than to meddle in local
Panchayat affairs and exert enough pressure on the Electricity department to
give electrical connection to notified illegal structure by the local BJP
wig (Moira) through the 'Health Dept' since the Panchayat had blocked it at
the Elec. dept.

The question is: Is Digamber Kamat a Congressman or a BJP stooge?

I have personally recorded my written objection to this construction at the
Panchayat as well as the Elect. Dept.

Another issue is that the 'Housing Board of Goa' is dishing out plot to
Migrants at Cunchelim-Mapusa. No sooner did this come to my attention, I
have dashed the following to the 'GHB' under the 'RTI' Act.

Rapes, Murders and Suicides in Goa

Is Goa -- in a state of lawlessness...?

It is quite evident that Goa is in a total state of
lawlesness...just recount the recent spate of murders,
rapes and suicides in Goa...

What is the government doing? Is this what the AAM
AADMI asked for?

Don't the victims of rapes, murders and suicides come
under the aam aadmi category?

What is the home minister doing?

I guess this is the state of affairs when the elected
reprsentatives are busy running to Delhi to work out
dispensations, secure kodels and take a sanction to
loot and plunder...

It is time Goans wake up and rise to ensure Goa sees
law and order, if not the future of our coming
generations is bleak...

The Vulgarians
India's Emergent Lowbrow Culture

After a cool and relaxing week in Goa, I flew back to Delhi on a Spicejet
flight. It was then that the new reality slapped me in the face. My
experience on the plane made me turn monkish, in the hope I would avoid hell
when the time comes for me hand in my dinner pail, kick the bucket, breathe
my last, expire, die. The two-hour journey tested me so much that I forgot
about my fear of flying. Even though we had a bumpy flight, my white
knuckles were overshadowed by the sheer frustration I felt at the uncouth
behavior of some fellow passengers.

I realized that, just in case there is heaven and hell, I certainly don't
want to go to Satan's estate in the event I find all the crude people there
that were on the flight. To that end, I have sworn to exercise more and do
good turns, even if I have to drag old ladies across the street; or eat
sickly sweet offerings from temples or face Mecca and bow several times a
day or go to confession in a Catholic church. Heck, I am even prepared to
eat health food.

Coming back to the flight, I was granted my request for an aisle seat by a
pleasant staffer at the check-in counter. Not just that, I was pleased as
punch to note that the middle and window seats remained empty as the doors
closed. This was truly fortuitous because these low-cost airlines pack
people in like sardines. I thought I would have a pleasant, undisturbed
flight. I pulled up the hand rests and prepared to stretch my legs across
the two empty seats once the seat belt sign was switched off.

No sooner than the doors closed, the guy in the row behind me loomed over
me, gesturing at the window seat in my row. Politely, I got up to let him
through, figuring I would still have an empty seat in between. He had four
seats.three where his wife and two sons sat and him across the aisle. When I
got up, he hurriedly blocked me and got his two sons to move into the two
seats next to me while he moved across the aisle to sit with his wife.

Stunned by this display of uncouth behavior, I told him what he did was
unfair. He was not conversant with English and his breath was foul so I let
it go and buried myself in my book. As the plane took off and when the seat
belt sign was switched off, an obese guy in the seat in front of me pushed
his seat back as far as it would go, leaving no room for my legs and my
book. I asked him to straighten his seat and he launched into the air
equivalent of road rage. "You don't own the airline," he told me in his
"convent" English. "If you have a problem, move to another seat. Or fly
another airline."

Stunned by the man's rude outburst, I kept silent and wondered at the
hectoring culture of this new and crude India. He was fat and out of
shape.clearly a crass Delhiwallah with black money, the type that resident
Goans abhor. I asked the steward to move me to another seat. For the record,
I have been a cheerleader for this upwardly mobile, emergent middle class
that poses a challenge to the privilegentsia: the clutch of academics,
bureaucrats and sundry others who feed off the trough of the state.

The privilegentsia proved a thorn in the side of the international
community; their pretentious outlook proved offensive to many in the West
and left India bereft of friends in the liberal world. But the emergent
culture of 21st century India that seeks to replace the elitist lot can only
be called vulgarian. Much of it is reflected in the popular culture: on
television and in Bollywood films; also in the ostentatious celebration of
age-old rituals like Diwali and Holi and in the re-awakening of misogynist
festivals like Karva Chauth and criminal practices such as dowry.

Talk about the devil and the deep blue sea!

Subject: [Goanet] Saligao citizens express concern over influx of
   migrants in village

PANJIM, APRIL 19 - Saligao citizens vociferously protesting against the
massive influx of migrant labourers at the recent Gram Sabha meeting held
recently, warned that the peace of the village would be threatened if the
antecedents of these labourers were not checked.

Protesting against the presence of these migrants, Tony Remedious, speaking
at the recent Gram Sabha pointed out that many of the migrant labourers
consume alcohol in large quantities and on getting intoxicated cause
disturbance in their neighbourhood, due to loud shouting and fighting.

Carlos Fernandes, accused some of the village elected representatives in the
Saligao panchayat of assisting some of these migrants to settle down in the
village by illegally issuing them ration cards, keeping their vote bank in
mind.

[Goanet] Blessed Joseph Vaz

2008-04-22 Thread George Pinto
April 21, 357th birth anniversary of Blessed Vaz.

>From the JOSEPH NAIK VAZ INSTITUTE
Berkeley, California, USA

Blessed Joseph Vaz died Jan 16, 1711. This great Goan has not received the
honor he deserves.
Goans, Goan clergy, and Goan organizations have done little to honor their
native son. Little is
known about our own Goan-born saints with the emphasis typically on European
saints who came to
Goans through colonial history. Please request your church leaders to honor
great Goans like
Blessed Vaz and Venerable Fr. Agnelo and make them saints. Please share this
message with your
children and grandchildren as they honor their Goan roots and take pride in
Goan achievements.
Please also forward this message to your family and friends.

BLESSED JOSEPH VAZ was made Patron of the Archdiocese of Goa, Daman, on Jan 16,
2000. Pope John
Paul II on the occasion of the Beatification "I came to Sri Lanka above all to
honor Blessed
Joseph Vaz. Like a star shining in the Asian sky, this great spiritual guide
teaches us many
lessons about the goodness of the human person and the nobility of our destiny
as human beings."
January 21, 1995

Life of Blessed Joseph Vaz Apostle of Kanara and Sri Lanka (1651-1711)

1651 Born in Benaulim, Goa, India, on April 21.

1676 Is ordained a priest. Shortly after, volunteers to go to Sri Lanka where
the Dutch were
persecuting Catholics and had banned all priests from entering the island. The
Chapter of Goa
refuses his offer because the mission would have meant certain death for him.

1681 Is sent to rescue the almost extinct mission in Kanara, present-day
Karnataka in India.
Rebuilds the Church in Mangalore and Kanara, establishes missions, tends to the
sick, ransoms
prisoners.

1684 Returns to Goa and joins a band of native Indian priests who formed a
community.

1685 Founds the Indian branch of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri, on September
25.

1686 Leaves Goa secretly and sets out for Sri Lanka.

1687 Arrives in Jaffna in the Tamil region of Sri Lanka, with a servant, John
Vaz, both disguised
as coolies. He works with a price on his head.1691 Is almost captured by the
Dutch and is advised
to go to Kandy. Is brought into Kandy in chains and imprisoned as a Portuguese
spy by the Buddhist
King, Vimaladharma Surya II.

1693 Works a miracle of rain during a severe drought. The King releases him
and gives him
protection and freedom to preach in his kingdom. As in Goa and in Mangalore, is
often seen in
ecstasy in prayer. The people call him "Sammana Swami" or Angelic Father.

1697 Is joined by three of his Indian Oratorians from Goa. During a small-pox
epidemic in Kandy,
the King and the people flee the capital. Fr. Vaz and Fr. Carvalho, tend to the
dying and
abandoned victims for almost two years.

1705 Dedicates the Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu.

1711 Dies in Kandy on January 16, after 23 years of arduous missionary work in
Sri Lanka.

The Work of Blessed Joseph Vaz
His missionary work was not colonial, not helped, authorized, associated with
conquest by a
colonial power. He gained the protection of a non-Christian King, Vimaladharma
Surya II of Kandy,
a devout Buddhist. He used inculturation as a missionary method. He founded a
Catholic
para-liturgy and literature using the two languages and cultures of Sri Lanka,
Tamil and
Sinhalese; he practiced and taught Meditation. He educated his servant John
Vaz, a member of the
Indigenous tribe of Kunbis, and sent him back to Goa with a letter of
recommendation to the
priesthood. At that time, the Portuguese Church Councils reserved the
priesthood only for the two
higher castes in Goa. He founded the miraculous Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu,
one of the five
officially crowned Marian Shrines of the Church, crowned in 1924, before
Fatima.

He is the first non-European native in modern times to found a Mission and
Church in a "Third
World" country; to found a fully native Catholic Religious Congregation; and to
be given the
official title of "Apostle" (of Kanara and Sri Lanka) by the Church, for his
work in rescuing the
Church there. His Indian Oratorian Mission is the only fully native,
non-European Catholic Mission
of our colonial era. The Church he re-founded in Sri Lanka was persecuted and
survived isolation
from Rome for 140 years: "Here is a country in which the faith was first
preached, and a Church
founded with great success to flourish for over a century, by missionaries who,
being afterwards
forced by the political failure of their nation to abandon the field, left this
island for good
and their converts... without churches or priests and under the heel of a
persecutor; and a single
priest (Joseph Vaz) from another country, came here of his own accord..and
laboring heroically
with a price upon his head, revived the faith" and made many conversions in the
teeth of
persecution, imprisonment and hostility..(no) subsequent political, social, and
ecclesiastical

Hundreds of Chimbel residents who had deposited their savings over the years at
the Chimbel branch of the Mardol based VPK Urban Co-op Credit Society were in
for a rude shock on learning that the bank’s pigmy collector Mrs. Menakshi
Chudu Shirodkar had vanished with their savings. It is estimated that the total
amount involved would be over Rs 30 lakhs

Utt Goenkara activists today visited the bank to demand immediate action
against the culprits and that the money of the banks depositors is returned.

Bank Chairman Mr. Surya Gaude and the Branch Manager Mr. Vaman Gaude have been
urged to order a thorough probe in this serious fraud on the Chimbel
residents.

One wonders as to how the Pigmy collector Mrs. Shirodkar who is now absconding
was able to issue forged pass books and herself withdraw money from the
depositor’s accounts without the connivance of other bank officials.

Bank officials have to explain as to why they had not immediately brought to
the the attention of the Registrar of Co-operative societies and the police
such a serious fraud.

The intervention of Superintendent of Police incharge of the Economic offences
cell Mr. Melwyn Fernandes in the matter has been sought.

Bosco,

Great poem.

I am shocked to read, that many male Goans, even some on this website, are
very happy to state that "Scarlet - deserved it", especially when there are
many 15-year old, Indian, young girls, who out of poverty, are being forced
into prostitution or beg on our Indian roads, dressed in badly torn clothes.

Does any female, whatever the circumstance, deserve to be raped, murdered,
tortured, physically abused, burnt etc. in India, whether Indian or
foreigner?

If the answer of any male Goan is "YES", to my above question, then, he
definitely needs psychiatric treatment, because this not "HUMAN" behaviour.

They don't understand child psychology and do not try
to understand also.
Please find some factual details which are pasted
below:
I shall be glad if you can make a cross check for the
same and I am sure that you will be able to understand
this matter and drive the media in right way to
develop the nation of tomorrow.

Dear Friends,

Good day.
I want to draw your attention to the fact of child
abuse. This is been happening since long back but most
of the children did not protest much of it and the
incidents one by one went on , sometimes in the form
of asking illicit question , probing into some ones
personal matter., or scolding the children with very
rough and abusing language, or sometimes catching by
neck till the child cries in pain , or sometimes by
abusing the child in front of other students and
giving bad name , or sometimes by throwing abuses
towards the parents with their character in front of
the child
Friends, just think, if this kind of teaching we the
elder give to the children, where will be our nation
in future?
Just imagine what damage and what destructive message
we are injecting to the coming generation.
Also we have forgotten about the Government’s
directive towards children by implementing Children
right act. Friends this act has been adopted by the
Goa Govt. on 2003. This clearly opposes the
misbehavior with children. Strongly against physical
torture also teachers in various field is supposed to
take care of the child’s psychology and no abuse and
so on.
But are we rationally thinking about it.
I will give you few incidents in Goa; names will be
replaced for purpose.
Case 1: A girl of 13 years, Lina, practicing diving,
Coach calls her, asks her why have you failed this
time?
Lina replies: I did not get much time to study.
Coach: I see. How many friends have you?
Line: I have many.
Coach: I mean to say, how many boyfriends do you have?
Lina: Sir, I am that type of girl. Please do not ask
such question.
Coach: You must have spoiled time with your boy
friends and now giving excuses.
Line: Sir, I am going, I do not like such talk,
please.
Coach (shouting): You enjoy and it is hard to hear.

Case 2:
One boy of 11 years, Shambhu.
Coach: Shambhu beta , Come here.
Shambu comes to the coach: Coach says: I have given
you the simple dive and you are not able to do it .
Do you have anything in your brain?
Shambhu: I could not understand Sir.
Coach: (repeating the same in rough tone) then how
others are able to do it? You are a dam idiot chap and
you will be ZERO. I will slap you and you will not
forget the dive (showing the act of slapping and
shambu shivers in fear)
Coach goes and stands there for the full evening.
Shambu could not understand the situation and stands
in the same place.
Coach comes running with abusing: you rascal, lost
hearing or what idiot go and stand there, don’t move.
You are like your mother, empty brain. … Shambhu
stands whole the hours doing nothing and could not
understand why and what to do now. He felt crying and
after the end of the class when shambhu’s mother takes
him out of the pool complex, Shambhu pleads mother:
Mummy, I will not come to pool again. Mummy thinks: It
may be as he has not done properly; coach scolded him
and said “OK I will tell coach not to scold you.
Next day Shambhu gets a slap too as prize from coach
but before the slap he got the cause also: Tell me who
is the coach, I or you mom? Why you have gone to you
mom the foolish lady? Does she know anything about
swimming? IF anything you do further or complain
anywhere else, I will dip you into water and stop you
for ever.
Shambhu is now confused: Coach is right or mom, what
to do he does not know. Mother asked Shambhu what
happened dear. Shambhu replies nothing mom. After
sometime Shambhu comes to Mom and asks: you know
swimming? Mom nods head and says yes I know. Shambhu:
Then why coach is telling you are foolish lady doesn’t
know anything about swimming and I am idiot like you.
Mom says: He is co ah, may be he knows:
Shambhu: Then why he shouts a lot?
I do not know

Case 3:
A Girl: 8 years old: Linda, sister of Lina:

Coach: Linda, listen. Why your sister failed.
Linda: I don’t know Sir.
Coach: What does her at home?
Linda: Study, what else.
Coach: She must have lots of boy friend; watch
carefully, you will find it. That’s why she fails.
Linda: Sir, I don’t know Sir.. But why are asking me
all those? Ask her. She will be able to answer. Sir.
Please don’t ask me for others.
Coach: Don’t follow your sister; otherwise you will be
dull one.
Linda: I don’t know Sir. I am going. Linda goes a

Goa native sues gov. agency

By KARA BECKER

A Goa native and former employee of the U.S. Customs and Border
Protection Agency at Boston is suing the agency and the Department of
Homeland Security for roughly $10 million.

Edward Furtado alleges that he was discriminated against by the
agency's Boston port director, Lorraine Henderson, who works at the
Logan International Airport division.

Furtado, who now lives in Georgia and works for UPS, claims he was
singled out on account of his race while working at the agency, which
is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Furtado states
that he was told he "was a GI Joe" and that "the United States
government owns him," and that when he is "asked to jump, he must
jump," according to his complaint filed in the U.S. District Court of
Massachusetts late last month.

Theodore Woo, a public affairs officer for the Boston office of the
agency, confirmed Furtado's employment, but would not comment on the
allegations. Henderson was unavailable for comment.

Furtado and his attorneys Michael Goldstein and Jeffrey Mazur also
cite in the legal complaint incidents where Furtado was allegedly
asked to stay late and perform miscellaneous tasks for which he was
never compensated. In addition, Furtado alleges that he was verbally
threatened by agency supervisors and forced to quit for no apparent
reason.

"All of my Irish coworkers told me that this is only a place for the
Irish, and that it wasn't meant for people from other countries," said
Furtado, who said he fled to Georgia with his wife and 6-year-old son
out of fear in 2007. "The port director said, 'You don't have friends
here.' In other words she told me, 'Go away,'" he said.

Last summer, when Furtado first announced he would sue the agency, he
also told INDIA New England that he was physically abused and dragged
by the ear for several yards in front of fellow agency employees. This
claim, however, was not included in his lawsuit, which contains
mistakes, including a statement that Furtado "speaks fluent Indian."
There are also typos in the complaint, including of the word
"secretary," which is misspelled when referring Homeland Security
secretary, Michael Chertoff, whose name is also misspelled in the
complaint as "Chernoff."

Last month, Furtado e-mailed INDIA New England, seeking publication of
his story. "Please," he wrote, "do all you can to represent the voice
of the voiceless community in the United States."

RESPONSE: I did not put it to you on 'CLIMATE', I put it to you on the
whole array of subjects. So you have made my day by informing Goanet
that I indeed generally know more than you; after all you have just
conceded that I was right and you were wrong. Amen.

BICHOLIM, April 22: "Interface 2008" An industrial cum consumer fair
will be jointly organised by the Goa State Industries Association
(GSIA) and the Bicholim Industrial Estate Industries Association, at
Heerabai Zantye Hall Complex, Bicholim from May 8 to 10.

The event is being organised for the first time outside the capital
city and is directed towards providing a marketing platform, exposure
to new schemes and growth strategies for the micro, small and medium
enterprises, entrepreneurship development, improvement in
employability and employment matchmaking for employment seekers.

In addition, the fair will also provide the people from Bicholim and
nearby talukas in North Goa an opportunity to participate in the fair.

The GSIA executive committee member and event co-coordinator, Mr
Rajkumar Kamat, addressing a press conference, this evening said that
the final year students of Government Polytechnics, Industrial
Technical Institutes and other vocational colleges would also be
involved in the event.

“Our main focus is to make available employment facilities for the
employment seekers, final year students and also for the ITI students
by providing training in soft skills, and assist in matchmaking,† he
added.

Mr Kamat further said that seminars would also be held to help various
entrepreneurs. “Exposing them to latest schemes, regulations and
growth initiatives, interaction with concerned government departments
and providing them with a marketing platform would form part of the
event,† he maintained.

The three-day event will be divided into two parts, taking care of
both the industry and the consumers, it was informed.

The GSIA president, Mr Atul Pai Kane, speaking on the occasion said
that the main focus would be given to potteries, besides electronic
items, household items and so on.

The central government undertakings like DRDO, NTPC, Konkan Railways
are expected to paticipate to source products from Goan industries, in
addition to the large engineering industries like ACGL, IFB and so on,
Mr Kane informed.

“This, therefore would be a good opportunity for small scale
industries to display their ability and discuss first hand with the
large units to develop products required by them,† he pointed out.

Mr Kane also said that the ACGL and the IFB generate large employment
directly as well as indirectly through small-scale ancillaries and
vendors that too with a potential to absorb workforce even with lower
education. The fair will include industrial products, industrial
services, consumer durables, two wheelers, electronics fitness
equipments, home decoration products so on, which would be available
for sale with attractive offers.

A POEM IN MEMORY OF SCARLETT KEELING

Dear Scarlett, your anguish I do share

But I am afraid I would hardly dare

To claim as you seem to have done

That you've done no wrong under the sun.

The world of drugs and ecstasy

May have helped you realise your fantasy,

But for a teenager it would have been best

If you had given up this unwholesome quest.

You chose to enter where angels fear to tread

And that is why today you are in the end, dead
