[Goanet] Sunday, May 16: San Francisco Bay Area Goan community event

2010-05-08 Thread George Pinto
San Francisco Bay Area Goan community to hold “Come Pray the Rosary in Konkani”

You are cordially invited to come pray the rosary in Konkani and sing the
litany on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at 2pm, at the Church of St. John the Baptist,
11150 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito, California, 94530, USA. There is no cost to
attend and all are invited for this "once-in-a-lifetime experience". Following
the service, there will be potluck reception in the Hall next to the church.
The food will include boiled gram to add to this traditional event.

The Joyful Mystery recitation will be videotaped for later display on the
http://konkanirosary.org/ website and will be broadcast live on the internet
(details to follow). The Joseph Naik Vaz Institute kindly donated the Church
and Hall to make this event possible and working with the SF Bay Area
Leadership Rosary Team and Michael Pinto (Canada), this important spiritual
event will be a milestone for the Goan community.

St. John's church is next to the Del Norte BART station on the Richmond line of
the Bay Area Rapid Transportation (BART) system, making it easier to get to
the service. See http://saintjohnthebaptistchurch.org/. Address: 11150 San
Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito, California, 94530, USA. (Note: there is ample free
parking in the rear of the church. Please do not park in the Bank of the West
parking lot).

Although there is no cost to attend, please RSVP to Loreen D'Silva at
1-510-537-3319 or email her at loreendsi...@yahoo.com if you wish to attend and
let her know the number in your party.

You do not need to know Konkani to attend. However, as a Konkani speaker if you
wish to participate, please call Acaria Almeida at 1-925-924-0513 or email her
at jarks...@yahoo.com.

Please pass this message on to your family and friends.

Thank you.

[Goanet] Migrant Half-Truths

2010-05-08 Thread Arwin Mesquita
 Ref
http://www.navhindtimes.in/news/migrants-contribution-cannot-be-overlooked-cm
As reported recently in the media whilst inaugurating the Goa Study Group,
Goa's Chief Minister said that the "migration happens because there is a
vacuum left in the state and. Goans don’t want to do low category jobs but
want white collar jobs only". Yes Migrants contribution must be recognized
but it is high time, we Goans look at this in the full correct perspective
rather than allow our politicians to state this half-truths for their own
selfish benefits. Yes, there are Jobs created by the Vacuum for
Migrants, but are our Corrupt Politicians not creating other avenues of
un-necessary employment; Let me state few facts:

(1) Are the Chief Ministers colleagues in the Builders lobby not bringing in
so many migrants for the so many un-necessary housing mega-projects; which
do not favour Goans?

(2) Have our shortsighted Politicians first seen the needs of the state
before sanctioning industries which eventually employs non-goans, surely
these industries are only bought so as to enable Politicians to monetarily
benefit from them. So if Goans do not have the Jobs in Goa that they are
qualified for, what is the only other option left for them other than to
migrate?

(3) Is the high level corruption not a key factor in Goans not getting jobs
in Goa and being forced to migrate; where Goan MLA's & Ministers are selling
jobs to the highest bidder and also manipulating documents to favour
migrants. Surely the average Goan, who cannot come up with such large sums
of money, is left with no other choice.

Our Politicians are only fooling us with excuses to do nothing; so as to
continue with the realization of the illegitimate incomes; it is high time
that Goans challenge all these Half-Truths!!

Hi Gilbert,

You have responded to my concern regarding the Inquisition Museum, but you have
not responded to my request to provide real factual data to back up your wild
accusations against a Goan historian and unsupported speculations about Goan
history. Could you please do that? Not doing so might hurt your ego.

Please be honest with yourself and recognize that it is you, not me, who has a
problem with ego and factual data. I am not the one who is gratuitously
advertising my superior British training on Goanet, and challenging a Goan
historian on Goan history.

2010-05-08 Thread Pandu Lampiao
Naw, academics know 'sollem' about tiatre. They may observe and write
a line or two but understanding is left to those who have grown up
with Concani, speaking and living the language. Its the life and
heartbeat of Salcette, the tiatre is.

Any changes and it may loose its charm, its quaint set ups, its
'same-old' beat and the routine plot, not forgetting Roldao the
baatkar.

What is not explored and which I saw for the first time yesterday was
stand-up comedy. At the Chicalim "Amchem Sobit Goiem" (full of free
floating plastic bags, dirt and grime) had Rosilinda (not sure of the
name) doing a stand up comedy/skit.great. I think there is
potential there. The problem is the reach. In Murmagao where two
politicos had two song-dance festivals in the same village, Concani
was alive but not well.

Football? Goan football? What new fans...the crows at the stidium?

>>> "Why not, if Goan football manages to find some non-traditional fans?"

 WHAT?

When did you see a football game yo? Football is dead. The Goa
Football Association killed the game. The pot bellied folks who run
the Association have run it to the ground, our cultural mainstay, the
artistry of the likes of Saligao Domnic and the power of Bernard...all
gone.
Can you name one Goan footballer currently playing who you'd pay to
watch...whose autograph your kids would get excited about?
Perhaps you the journos got this from an Association press release!

The spectators at the Fatorda stadium sit like dead crows. The game is
life less in Goa, irrespective of what some of you may imagine. Gone
are the days when there was excitement in the air when Vasco played
Dempo-Souza Even the comment in the galleries have died down. There is
Merguliao who makes his rounds but even he is silent these days (the
person who acts clown at Fatorda).

The Association like its hoarse and inaudible announcer at the Fatorda
stadium have no ideas. Imagine, its the 50th anniversary of the
Association and you'd have to ask to know that organized football is
50 years old!

Thankfully thatre and the chooris-pau business is alive and well!

===
Pandu, You're giving up even before they get properly started!

The question is not whether there is an encashable market for the
tiatr in cyberspace today, but whether
the tiatr could expand its audiences, its appeal and its viability.

It took one article by Dr Pramod Kale (whose father was staging Ibsen
in Marathi the 1920s and 1930s) to
open many eyes to the vibrancy of the tiatr. Dr Rafael's book, an
academic text published in English,
adds to the discussion and understanding.

The challenge today is to find new solutions. Could English subtitles
help? Would it create more fans?
(Why not, if Goan football manages to find some non-traditional fans?)
I would not judge everything by
money; Goanet earns next to nothing, but it does have a significant
impact in taking the debate forward
sometimes.

[Goanet] A Brief Comment From Godfrey Pereira

2010-05-08 Thread Godfrey Pereira
This is in response to the news brief: Mining companies in Goa to pay
compensation for crop loss.

Question: When are the mining Companies going to pay compensation for
the blood of Goa which they are filtering out through a two way drip
feed. One tube inserted into the pockets of the politicians, the other
headed for China.

Question: When are the dead Goans going to come back to life and look
around their land and DO SOMETHING ABOUT their Goa?

And another question: Do you Goan imbeciles really think that The Mining
Companies will stick to their end of the bargain?

If you are a Goan and your answer is YES to the last question, then my
dead Soosaygadh Paowallah corpse, you ARE better off dead.

I recently wrote an article Titled “Letter to The Bleddy Goans from An
East Indian Bugger” The article was meant to awaken some Goans from
their stupor.

The article was not about Goans Vs. East Indians. One hopes, that from
all the reaction the article got, that a few, just a few Goans would get
angry enough and look around Goa and SEE what the mining companies and
politicians have done to Goa.

There is a Song by Singer Songwriter Neil Young titled “Ohio”. The
song’s lyrics cry about The Four students who were shot at Kent State
University. They were protesting the escalation of The Vietnam War.
There is one line that all you Goan losers who have turned their backs
on Goa should know about.

The Line screams: HOW CAN YOU RUN, WHEN YOU KNOW?

You Goans know what is happening to Goa, in Goa.
How can you run, when you know???

On African violets (Saintpaulia)

Goans in Africa, as also others would know of African violets, of the
genus Saintpaulia. African violets are not considered true violets but
we are interested here in color and thoughts (ranges from, yes white,
to violet to pink) and not arguing with Botanists. A bit of a tangent
on the topic of Color in Konk'nni (which may end up being a regular
occurrence) but they have interesting names, which I looked up in my
copy of Color, Why the World Isn’t Grey by Hazel Rossotti; from
Princeton University Press. They are as follows:

Thistledown, Colette, Wisteria, Waltz, Erica, Pansy,
Chiffon, Wistful, Veronica, Galliard, Fuchsia, Sovereign,
Valentine, Rhapsody, Ballade, Empress, Ophelia, Wineberry,
Capella, Nimbus, Turtle Dove, Highland, Mephisto, Charade

The precise color/ values for many of the above may be seen via the
Color Engine here, http://www.perbang.dk/rgb/337BCC/
More on Violets here:
http://www.theflowerexpert.com/content/mostpopularflowers/morepopularflowers/violets

Viole is the diminutive form of violet from the French violete.
English got the word through the Latin viola in the 15th century. It
is also presumed that its origins could be in a pre-Indo-European
Mediterranean language.

Perhaps someone enterprising can look into these unique and lovely
names, or post anecdotes on seeing them, growing/raising them, gifting
them to your gal, reading these names in poetry, about field-trips,
etc.

[Goanet] Fussing about Jo-GoaUtorda

2010-05-08 Thread Pandu Lampiao
One does not understand why the tiatrist are fussing about
JoeGoaUtorda. Really. All they (they must be an idle lot) want is to
view him in person- is what I gathered from the Theatre book release
doo at the Tiatre Academy. I imagine there is a fair bit of paranoia
amongst the tiatre community which afflicts folks in theatre around
the world ( after reading novelist Margret Drabble, whose
characters are theatre personalities).

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margaret_Drabble

Get a life yo. Joe is not denting your income with his postings is he?
As for the benefits, I ain't sure there is too much either. Concani
Tiatre is limited in its reach.

The internet is a tricky business and I will get to that later.

My thinking for the boom in the tiatre business is the arrival of
cable and minor prosperity (the cash/bribe money has to go somewhere
and there is only so much ice cream one can eat), people want to go
out and this is the joyous outing. As well, tiatrs are now held in
nice clean settings, during the afternoons at the Kala unlike in the
old days where one had to go to some godforsaken field where the
lights went out or the band master went missing in a local bar. They
are more professional now. And with the pathetic and gloomy state of
affairs in amchi Goiem, this is release no? What a lovely
release...Concani is truly beautiful as a spoken language and as
spoken by the Xastikars: sing-song and poetic, musical even.

I have my doubts as to the benefits of Joe's posting on Utube.
Seriously, tiatre is local business and perhaps has a market in the
Gulf. In the UK/Canada, I doubt there is much there unless I am
mistaken.

People watch Joe's video's on Utube but is there any benefit for the
titrist aside from publicity? Does the publicity equate to dineros?
Naw. I doubt.
There is a gang here on the Goanet thinking any publicity is great.
Keep dreaming.

Publicity is a tricky thing (I was in the publicity business in the
mid 80s when the left over rock bands from the West came to Mumbai for
cheap) and its really luck of the draw. If one posted Patricia Rozario
on Utube singing the dekni, that may indeed turn into a spiral pub
hit. But amcho tiatrehow many Goans outside of Goa and the Gulf
even attempt to speak Concani?

Joe Goa *wherever* aside, there other possibilities of using Utube,
example reviewing the latest Jackob with clips etc. Or professionally
done clips of songs. Maybe the tiatrist would like some of our
understanding of the internet...I for one would volunteer my time
to chat about using the internet. As well, possibility of doing an
English preview- I hear tourist visiting are showing interest in this
lovely art form.

I think some other folks should volunteer their time in the name of
Concani (what else do we have but our language and food to keep this
lovely but fading way of life called Goan?) Maybe some professional
video folks, some web folks can all pool in resources...maybe the
Theatre Academy needs a web site of its own now.

JoeGoa has inadvertently taken the theatre to the internet age, but is
that a good thing is debatable.

To the tiatrist, I have a picture of JoeGoaUK taken last January 2008
posing with swinging Aunty-Ponty Fr*ncis de Toronto, but I ain't
showing. Not even for pau-baaji!

[Goanet] Fw: Dr. Oz's Longevity Plan For the 50-Plus

Dr. Oz's Longevity Plan For the 50-Plus
Posted on May 3rd 2010 3:00PM by Vanessa Voltolina

Dr. Oz is certainly not lacking in enthusiastic followers of his healthy living
and lifestyle advice. But recently, the favorite physician focused on a new
market by teaming up with AARP Magazine and creating a six-month plan for
increasing longevity.

Oz, who himself is on the verge of turning the big 5-0, provided the
publication, which focuses on the 50-year-old-plus population, with a regimen
that features 18 stretching, strength and balance exercises, most of which can
be done at home, according to Reuters. Oz also provided dietary guidelines and
checklists to the magazine. The staple of the plan is a daily, 30-minute walk.

"This six month plan is designed to be a gradual process that will put you on
the road to a longer, healthier life," Dr. Oz told AARP. "Consider it as a long
journey in a car with a friendly GPS system. You might make a wrong turn along
the way, but you simply take the next available U-turn to correct your course.
It is meant to allow you to 'recalibrate' without judgment."

Here's a preview of a few of Dr. Oz's exercise tips from the May/June 2010
issue of AARP (these steps are found in month three of the plan):

Week 1: Boost your aerobic activity by stepping up the pace of your walking --
you should be breathing fairly hard -- and by adding 3,000 more steps each day.

Week 2: Add a short, 10-minute strength-training program to your routine. Start
with scissor legs, then add exercises to strengthen your shoulders, arms and
legs.

Week 3: This week, start each day with a 10-minute stretching session.
Flexibility is key to ensuring that you don't injure yourself as you increase
your physical activity. You'll want to stretch your chest, back, abdominals,
hips and hamstrings.

Week 4: Our sense of balance is coordinated by three things -- our
proprioception (which is our brain telling us where we are in space), our
vision and our hearing. As we age, our ability to integrate the signals from
these three systems declines. But it takes only a few minutes a day to
fine-tune it.

The magazine also includes 6-Month Plan Daily Checklist:

Walk 30 minutes: Working out has benefits for your heart, weight, even your sex
life. It may also help stave off Alzheimer's, new research finds.

Brush and floss: Brushing removes only about 60 percent of the germs from
between your teeth.

Drink two cups of green tea: Green tea may lessen the risk of some cancers,
plus it lowers cholesterol levels.

Take 400mg of DHA omega-3s, 1,000 IU vitamin D, and 1,000mg calcium: Omega-3s
diminish cognitive decline; calcium and vitamin D boost bone density.

Sleep seven to eight hours a night: Our bodies use downtime to repair cells,
process information, and raise growth hormone levels, which can up bone density
and decrease body fat.

Meditate for five minutes: Yoga, prayer, meditation -- they're all key to
reducing stress and finding purpose (more on these in Months 4 and 5).

BICHOLIM MAY 7 :In yet another attack, a leopard killed a calf at
Maulinguem-Bicholim in the wee hours of Friday.
According to sources, the calf belonging to one Ashok Sawaikar was tied in a
cowshed, when it was attacked by the wild cat.
“Usually, we put on all the light surrounding our house at night especially
after the leopard killed our dog,” said Ashok's son, Mandar.
“Last night, we forgot to put on the light in the cowshed and when we came
in the morning, we found the calf dead.”
Animal Rescue Squad chief Amrut Singh informed that the leopard generally
goes in search of food in the evening or in the wee hours.
“Merely putting on the lights may not drive the leopard away,” said Singh.
It may be recalled that leopard attacks have been reported in the area in
the past few days.
“In three similar cases, calves belonging to Jitendra Sawaikar, Nigalye,
Govekar and another person from Naiginim Bicholim were reportedly killed by
the leopard.

[Goanet] Ajmal Kasab - Fierce crime must get fierce execution - the only deterrent

2010-05-08 Thread floriano

Reading thro' the letters to editor in today's newspapers regarding the
passing of the death sentence on Ajmal Kasab, I tend to agree with Anand
Madgavkar [Herald/Goan Observer] that such things are not celebrated but
solemnly accepted as justice done towards the crime committed. There is
nothing to celebrate about. In fact it is a sad day that things like the
crime that Kasab committed and the 'hang unto death' judgment passed has
come to pass in this modern, civilized society. But even sterner judgments
are required in order to curb the fanatic understanding that if one gives
his/her own life in taking away hundreds of other's for a cause totally
absurd and unknown, one is likely to be rewarded in many ways in heaven by
the Almighty God.

My brother has come down to Goa today from Mumbai for a couple of days to
see our mother who is bed-ridden at 88. And we got to talking about the main
news in the papers today about Ajmal Kasab getting the hanging rap. And what
surprised me was my brother saying that he is totally not satisfied with the
hanging unto death sentence. "It is too mild and a very easy way out for
Kasab", he said.

I disagreed with him asking him if he would prefer having Kasab lined up
against the dead wall and pumped with a hundred bullets, like they did it
to the President of Rumania Nikolae Causescu through a firing squad.

"No", he said. "That too is a sort of easy way out". "If I were Justice M
L Tahaliyani, I would have handed out a sentence that was the most cruel -
HANGED - DRAWN AND QUARTERED."

In all these years of reading novels and books, I am no novice to that
phrase. But I have never had the opportunity to find out what it actually
meant. So I said to my brother. "Isn't it the same thing" l asked my
brother.

"I had expected that you would know" he said. "It means, as the body is
plunged and comes to the end of the rope, there is the executioner waiting
with a knife who slits the chest open in one motion even as the body is in
spasm, plucks out the beating heart with his bare hands, places it on the
chopping block and cuts it into 4 quarters in a swift 'dak ..dak' motion".

Come to think of it, that all these years I had known the phrase but didn't
know what it meant.

"Sure" I said. "I can't imagine anything more cruel than this".

Does not Kasab deserve it??? Perhaps the Supreme Court will know better.
And,
Perhaps our dear Remo must abandon the Arabian Sea mass drowning for our
GOA politicians and solicit for a 'Kalejah fry' rave party instead.

[Goanet] 2 RARE ALBINO CROWS (White crows) DIE AT BONDLA

2010-05-08 Thread samir umarye
--
Samir Umarye

BY SAMIR UMARYE
BICHOLIM, MAY 7: It should have been their sanctuary, but the Bondla
wildlife sanctuary turned out to be their graveyard.

Two rare albino crows died in the wildlife sanctuary barely days after they
were rescued from Ibrampur-Pernem and handed over to the sanctuary.
The incident, which has shocked wildlife activists, was reportedly kept
under wraps at the Bondla wildlife sanctuary for a number of days, until
confirmation finally came through that the two rare birds had died.
Herald investigations have revealed that the two albino crows, handed over
to the Bondla wildlife sanctuary by residents of Ibrampur Pernem, died
within few days after they were taken to the sanctuary.
The incident was kept secret almost for a month and visitors who were eager
to catch a glance of this rare species were told that they were left in the
jungle.
It may be recalled that both albino crows were found at Ibrampur last month.
The first one was found on April 10 near the house of one Mhaso Vishnu
Gawas. Other crows were trying to kill the albino crow, when Gawas informed
an animal activist, Narayan Kalangutkar, who had rescued the bird.
Barely four days later, another albino crow was rescued from the same
village. This time it was spotted by Sunil Kubal. Both crows were then sent
to the Bondla wildlife sanctuary, so that they could be protected while
under observation.
On receiving information that the two albino crows had die, this
correspondent rushed to Bondla on Friday to verify the reports.
The RFO and other officials had gone for a meeting at Panjim and when some
workers at Bondla zoo were contacted, most of them said the two birds were
released in the forest after initial treatment.
Some of them tried to evade queries on the issue and said they are unaware
about the whereabouts of the two albino birds.
Later, a few workers had the courage to disclose the truth and confirmed
that the albino crows had died just few days after they were brought to the
zoo.
“We were never given a chance to see them as they were always kept inside
and were undergoing some treatment,” said a worker on condition of
anonymity.
“We heard that they stopped eating after they were brought to the zoo and
one of them was also injured. The doctor always came to check them, but the
crows did not survive,” the worker added.
As there was no formal confirmation about the incident, attempts were made
to contact the RFO Paresh Porob, but he did not answer the call.
Assistant Forest Officer and the Bondla Zoo Manager, Pradeep Verekar,
however, confirmed the news on phone.
“The incident is true and they are dead,” said Verekar.
When asked for the reason behind the deaths, Verekar claimed he did not have
the report with him and that it was in the office.
“Right now, the report is not with me. You can come to the office and see
the entire report on Monday, to know the exact reason behind the incident,”
Verekar added.
Animal Rescue Squad Chief Amrut Singh expressed surprise and regret over the
incident. “They were rare species and we may not find a similar crow,” said
Singh.
Albino crows have red eyes and are unable to see when they come in contact
with sunlight. The crows need special care and attention, as they have to be
kept in the dark.
According to experts, albino crows get their white colour because of some
genetic changes, following a lack of melanin content that robs them of its
black pigmentation.

[Goanet] ATROCITIES ON WOMEN IN GOA

2010-05-08 Thread Dr. Leo Rebello
I GOT THIS FROM LUKE MENDES TODAY (Saturday, 8th May, 2010)
I have reported the matter to NHRC, NWC, PMO, Goa CM - present
and ex, Goan MPs, newspapers etc. See what you can do at your end.

Cheryl D'Souza, her nine-year old daughter Aki, her mother Dora, aged
eighty-four, are fighting the miners who have destroyed their dignity and who
now want to destroy Paikeachi Zor {Paik's Spring} a fountain head for the
villagers. They want to buy her land, Sanfranscisco Estate and turn it into a
graveyard.

Cheryl D'Souza knows the deathly silence of graveyards well, her husband's
ashes are scattered over her farm. When the miners wanted to rape her little
daughter and take away her very existence, Cheryl turned She Wolf, feral and
snarling, to thwart the beasts who are literally panting at her doorstep.

She wants to keep them away. They want to rape and then eat her daughter alive.
She has pleaded, begged of the Goans to help her fight this juggernaut that is
pounding Goa but the Goans have stayed silent. Let her fight, let her go to
jail, let her young daughter and old mother be incarcerated, raped; we will
continue to dip our paos in last night's stale curry, looking into our cracked
plates so that we do not have to see or know. What a shame! What a bloody
shame, you paowallahs!

The miners made her a monetary offer that they thought she could not refuse.
She did. They threatened her. She fought back. They humiliated her. She snarled
in protest. They thought they had won the battle.

One bright morning she declared war and tried to stop the ore trucks that were
carting away the life blood of her Goa. They arrested her and her daughter and
her old mother. And the Goans stayed silent watching her being gang raped by
the politicians and the miners.

It is difficult to have an Inquisition museum without it being part of a museum

[Goanet] Fw: Just a Reaction....

Dear Dear Godfrey,

Thank you for your call much after mightnight when I was preparing for a
day's good sleep, skeptical about the goodnees of that sleep due to the
roasting hot weather here in Goa. And I am happy to say that I slept better
than a baby does, thanks for your kind words all the way from Hoboken, New
Jersey, USA.

As I have promissed you, I am opening up a channel so that you may unload
your mind about Goa and Goans to the entire world of Goans, because I feel
it in my bones that you do love Goa very much and have a lot of wires
connecting you to Goa and Goans.

And let those who want to shut you up may also have the channel open so
that they may unload their minds of the baggage which has burried deep
'what they know' about why Goa is in deep shit today, and come out singing
the Neil Young's song, not 'Ohio', but 'GOA' with the title "HOW COULD WE
HAVE RUN, WHEN WE KNEW".

And if such a song does not exist, it is high time for Remo Fernandes, to
concentrate his efforts and energy in composing this special Goan Song for
Goa and Goans instead of voicing the futility of dumping Goa's politicians
into the Arabian Sea. For, dear Remo must know that the Arabian Sea is not
big enough to accommodate them all at one shot.

:-))

Dear Floriano,
It was great talking to you. I just took a chance and called, and there you
appeared, at the end of the long mystical cyber line between Jersey and Goa.
Ha!
I will keep in touch. I found your letter, filled with a sad humor of
something precious slipping away something that you have tried to hold
onto.

I have touched the raped hills in Maina district, I have seen the lepers
colony on Calungute beach. I could have turned away.Technically I am a
foreigner to India but my soul was ashamed... in my heart, warm Indian blood
still runs wild. And so, maybe that is why I write about Goa.
Hopefully we will meet one day and share a Feni and look for answers to our
unanswered prayers. Ha, Ha!

Peace
Godfrey Pereira

This is in response to the news brief: Mining companies in Goa to pay
compensation for crop loss.

This report appeared Sun Aug 5 12:43:16 PDT 2007 in Goa Net.

The month of this writing is May 2010.

What happened to the "Compensation." Does anybody know? Does anybody Care?

Question: When are the mining Companies going to pay compensation for the
blood of Goa which they are filtering out through a two way drip feed. One
bauxite tube is inserted into the pockets of the politicians, the other iron
ore tube is headed for China; and the mining companies are laughing at you
Goans as they make their way to the Bank. What happened to your dignity?

Question: When are the dead Goans going to come back to life and look around
their land and DO SOMETHING ABOUT their Goa? What will it take for this
resurrection to happen?

And another question: Do you Goan imbeciles really think that The Mining
Companies will stick to their end of the bargain?
If you are a Goan, and your answer to the last question is YES, then my
dead Soosaygadh Paowallah Corpse, you ARE better off dead.
I recently wrote an article Titled “Letter to The Bleddy Goans from An East
Indian Bugger” The article was meant to awaken some Goans from their stupor.

The article was not about Goans Vs. East Indians. One hopes, that from all
the reaction the article got, that a few, just a few Goans would get angry
enough and look around Goa and SEE what the mining companies and politicians
have done to Goa.

There is a Song by Singer Songwriter Neil Young titled “Ohio”. The song’s
lyrics are an elegy to The Four students who were shot dead by TheOhio
National Guard at Kent State University in Ohio on Monday, May 4, 1970.

The students were protesting the American invasion of Cambodia.
There is one line that all you spineless Goan losers, who have turned their
backs on Goa should know about.

The Line screams: HOW CAN YOU RUN, WHEN YOU KNOW?

You Goans know what is happening To Goa, In Goa.
How can you run, when you know???

[Goanet] Need to Save Goa for Future Generations

2010-05-08 Thread Joao Barros-Pereira
*Need to Save Goa for Future Generations*
*Fri May 7 10:35:53 PDT 2010*

All this Save Goa business get my blood pressure going.
Joao adds: I'm sick of it too. Add my name to the list. Methinks, we Goans
have put the cart before the horse. We first need to save ourselves!
But, from whom? The Roman Catholic Church, Christianity! What is it, anyway,
this thing aka Christianity? In a nutshell, Adam and Eve ate the apple, Joao
is condemned, God sends his only begotten son to Save me for a crime I
haven't committed in the first place! God appears to be more nuts than I am!
No doubt about one thing, save is our favorite word Cheers, Celebrate
Life!

Why won't we accept the fact that Goa is a failed state, and thingshave gone
down a steep slope. So why worry about saving Goa. Forwhat?Future
generations?Save Goa for the children of those who have come here and
destroyedour pretty shores? Naw. There arn't many Goichis now (we have
thelowest birth-rate) and there aren't going to be too many in the
futureunless they eat jackfruit (its good for the reproductive department,
Iheard).

There is no government in the traditional sense- just some blokes interrycot
shirts pretending to be busy running about running aboutaimlessly,
withottYou want a tourist destination, fly Dubai. Lovely beaches, gold
ischeap so you can wear the gangster luk for cheap.

Goa is not a destination foremployment like the metros of India. It is
basically a tourist destinationand the government should do all it can to
save the natural environment ofGoa. It should develop policies to safeguard
the interest of Goans in theemployment sector by reserving 90 per cent quota
for Goans before issuingpermission for industries, hotels etc. Are any of
our Goan leaderslistening? More importantly, will they take the necessary
action to saveGoa?

[Goanet] EIAs, Public Hearings structurally defective

2010-05-08 Thread sebastian Rodrigues

Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) as well as Rapid Environment Impact
Assessment (REIA) conducted by all the mining companies are defective ab
initio. Firstly they are paid by
the mining companies and private firms are employed to do these studies.
So from the beginning itself comes the interest of mining industry.
Study then gets tailored accordingly. It is packed up with false
information. If it is not detected by public then it goes off as truth.
Based on these reports Public Hearings under Environment Protection Act
are conducted. To conduct these Public Hearings Goa State Pollution
Control Board is paid Rs.5 lakh for each of the public hearings.
Pollution control board then becomes the servant of the mining companies
and feels it is obligatory to toe the line of the mining companies.
There is plenty of evidence floating around in Goa for this. In fact
each of the EIA and REIA reports is unchallengeable evidence.

The
entire edifice of EIA and Public Hearings are corroded and defective.
It provides undue advantage and legitimizes manipulation and distortion
of information. Ecology suffers with this. Local communities suffer with
this. Only mining companies and few their dependents gets high in this
whole process. The planet earth gets wounded every day and demands stops
 to all this nonsense.

[Goanet] How to heck EVM

2010-05-08 Thread SHRIKANT BARVE
EVM hacked! (We told you it's easy to do)
http://www.punemirror.in/index.aspx?page=article§id=62&contentid=201005062010050600232543c9f000db§xslt=

There’s no doubt about it. Electronic Voting Machines can be tampered with, and
a team of experts have demonstrated exactly how it's done, using an EVM from
Maharashtra

By Alka Shukla & Jaison Lewis
Posted On Thursday, May 06, 2010 at 12:23:25 AM

On March 29, 2010, Pune Mirror carried a report on how Electronic Voting
Machines (EVMs) are easy to hack into.
Why your Vote may not count?
http://www.punemirror.in/index.aspx?page=article§id=62&contentid=2010032920100329022614001c24ca9§xslt=

Now, there is proof. Setting of alarm bells well in time for the next election
in 2012, a team of researchers used a machine from the state to demonstrate two
ways in which the results could have been rigged.

The researchers, in a report posted on their website, showed precisely how a
display component could be replaced with a fake substitute programmed to steal
a percentage of the votes in favour of a chosen candidate.

They also exposed how stored votes could be changed between the election and
the public counting session, which in India can be weeks later, with a
pocket-sized device.

The team, comprising Hyderabad-based NetIndia, Dr J Alex Halderman, a
professor and noted expert on electronic voting security from the University of
Michigan and Holland-based security expert Rop Gonggrijp, was instrumental in
the ban on EVMs in the Netherlands.

Last year, NetIndia Managing Director Hari Prasad had demonstrated how the
instrument could have been tampered with, but he could prove this only
theoretically as the election commission didn’t provide him with a real EVM.

“This time, a bureaucrat provided us with a real EVM,” said Prasad. He was
vocal about the vulnerability of EVMs even as the chief election commission
vouched for their ‘infallibility’ last year.

Indian EVMs record votes only onto the internal memory of the system. There are
no paper records that allow for inspection or recount.

In fact, the vote-counting software in the EVMs is programmed to not allow the
software to be read out and verified.

“Since these chips are made in the US and Japan, this has led to a situation
where nobody in India knows for sure what software is in these machines or
whether it counts votes accurately,” reads the report.
