Kabrastan Cemetery desecrated in Curchorem Curchorem town witnessed a shameful act of desecrating a Kabrastan and a Christian cemetery, situated on a hillock of Pantemoll, little away from the main town. Some locals, who visited the cemetery today, witnessed that name plates of over 100 tombs in both the Kabrastan and the Cemetery were damaged by some miscreants. The police immediately rushed to the spot and started conducting investigation into the incident. This is the first incident after chief minister Manohar Parrikar took over as the chief minister. Series of such incidents had taken place, in a similar manner, during the tenure of Digambar Kamat, heading the Congress-led government. In fact these incidents had led to movement led by Mandir Suraksha Samiti in the state, initiated by some Hindu organizations. Even if this incident is considered to be the possibility to counter this background in a crude manner, the Curchorem town did not react in haste but preferred to remain silent. Strategically, the Hindutwa party fielded six Christian candidates – Francis D’Souza, Michael Lobo, Glen Ticlo, Carlos Almeida, Matanhy Saldhana and Nilesh Cabral. All six got elected. If not, the BJP could have remained at 15. The lesson is that Goans don’t vote for communalism. They voted for Congress all these years because it was a conglomeration of all castes and religions. Besides Madhya Pradesh the leaders of the state of Kannada which is Goa's neighbour is also involved in this nefarious activity. BC NEW DELHI: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders were involved in illegal mining in the state, Congress leader Digvijay Singh said here Friday, a day after a police officer was killed for allegedly taking on the mining mafia. Digvijay Singh, offered his condolences to the family of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Narendra Kumar, who was killed Thursday when a tractor-trolley, suspected to be laden with illegally-quarried stones, ran over him when he tried to stop it in Madhya Pradesh's Morena district. Narendra Kumar, 32, was a sub-divisional police officer in Bamor. I covey my heartfelt grievance to the family of young IPS officer and his wife who is in last stage of pregnancy ... my heart goes out to her. She was the circle officer in my district, where I have been MP. She incurred the wrath of BJP MLA and was transferred out of Rajgarh district, Digvijay Singh, a former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, told reporters here. He said illegal mining was rampant in Madhya Pradesh and, starting from the chief minister down to the BJP cadres, all were involved. Morena is known for its sand and stone quarries. Why had this not been auctioned... this needs to be inquired into. I have requested the chief minister to set up a judicial inquiry for my and his tenure and we should go into leases granted under my and Shivraj Singh's tenure, he said. There is ample evidence to prove that the chief minister's family is involved in the illegal mining. We have got proof that number of people including BJP MLAs, MPs and influential people are involved in mining activity in open connivance of BJP leadership, he said. Digvijay Singh said the state government was losing massive revenue as these quarries were not being auctioned and leased. Lashing out at state Home Minister Uma Shanker Gupta for his statement that Narendra Kumar's death was an accident, he said: I profoundly condemn the inhumane statement of the home minister calling it an accident and not a deliberate murder. Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Sharad Yadav also called for strict action against the culprits involved in the killing. I have raised the issue of illegal mining in the state before. Both BJP and Congress leaders are looting the natural resources in the state. To Goanet - Floriano-bab, I, too, have been let down my Manohar-bab in the past. After the release of The Rape of Goa in May 2008, I tried so hard to get him to come see it. Repeated pleas and calls, but no success. (Note that during this very time some guys here were spreading gossip that Manohar/BJP was secretly behind the making of my documentary.) Manohar finally saw the documentary in Sept 2009. Where? In Silicon Valley at an event organized by George Pinto. I don't take these things personally. Dear Tony, My heart goes out to you because every bit of what you write is true and you have no hesitation in calling a spade a spade. You're an honest to goodness Goan, the sort of chap that works all his life and expects nothing more from the world than a quiet, clean, civil country to live in. The truth of the matter is 50 years after Liberation, the townships have been made unfit for human habitation. What makes this an absolute crime against humanity is that each of our MLAs are worth their weight in crores. An honest Goan working a lifetime cannot save a crore and believe me that applies even to NRIs, yet these men have managed to leech off the Goan blood while the townships rot. This is something the Parrikar government can certainly make a start in correcting and I hope they do, starting with Digu's own constituency Margao. If you think Mapusa is a ghanti town, then a visit to Margao will make you feel considerably better in living on that side of the Zuari. At the recent Goa Elections, most of the in-competent Anti Goan MLA's got elected due to slum politics via imported and illegally pampered vote-banks. Classic example is that Goa's worst performing and now ex-Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, got re-elected with the big help of Voters, who care less for Goans and Goa's Interests. This is seriously detrimental to True democracy which gives Anti-Goan politicians the power, to do whatever they want to destroy and loot Goa. Of course, it is also well know that slums are hot-beds of Crime and used by specific Goan politicians for criminal activities. Can we verify voting rights of these slum residents in their home state? Times of India’s 10/3/12 Saturday’s bombay edition had a front page article with the subject ‘Lets give ourselves the space we deserve’………TOI in the article claims it will start a campaign to bring together various sections of society to discuss how the quality of life can be improved by enhancing the availability and quality of open spaces in bombay………but why is TOI bothered about open spaces in bombay when TOIs Saturday supplement Times Property has articles in favour of builders lobby and full of advertisements from builders lobby who are eating up all open spaces…….why this Kolaveri Di ………anyway if TOI is serious about protecting the last few bits of open spaces in bombay then they should start a campaign to force the Maharahstra govt. to make encroachment of open spaces by builders or slumlords or landSharks a non-bailable offence punishable with 10 years in jail………..TOI reporters should also be kind enough to write articles on why the marathi manoos working in bmc, police, collectorsoffice, citysurveyoffices, rationoffice took bribes from mafia backed slumlords builders and allowed slums illegal constructions to flourish all over bombay and would the marathi manoos allow slums illegal constructions to flourish all over bombay if bombay was their (marathimanoos) native placesomebody needs to enlighten the TOI to either change the name of BombayTimes to MumbaiTimes or MumbaiMirror to BombayMirror. So the new government with Parrikar as CM is a ray of hope and a relief that someone dynamic, educated and intelligent has taken over the reins. But only time will tell if this government will really walk the talk, as no doubt , there will be plenty of temptations on the way to divert them from the path of good governance. Dear Honourable C.M., First of all may I congratulate you on your overwhelming victory; the die was cast, Catholic voters, were urged at Sunday Mass, not to vote for corrupt Politicians. I do hope and trust that you will not abuse the confidence entrusted in you by the minority Goans. Your agenda speaks volumes for our Goa 'El Dourado. Goans are not expecting miracles, so long as you uphold natural justice and reject babsheesh, we shall all be okay. Just a reminder though, your putting aside Good Friday a very important feast for the minorities does not equate to the same setting aside of a not so important Hindu Feast. Please be mindful of that. It would be simple to follow the Singapore code wherein the Muslims i.e. Malays, Indians, Christians and the majority Chinese are all accorded equal holidays. Now being in a predominant Hindu India, we do not expect the same, being in a significant and influential minority in Goa, we expect respect and tolerance. Next time I come to Goa I shall be more than happy to have some food street food with you! Your reign as C.M. and that of your Party will hold for many, many long years, so long as you hold true to your agenda. Good governance will see that the you will have the vast majority of Goans with you.
