Re: [Goanet] Bhagavathi, Birla, Ragbhavan and St. Mary's theatres in Bombay
Here is me venturing to answer. The Rangbhavan is an 'open air' theatre near St Xavier's College near Dhobitalao. It was built by the state govt. on a plot of land that was part or the Technical School next door. This theatre is much like the open air theatre at the Kala Academy Goa; but not as good. The great Charles Correia got international recognition for his Goa project; for the wonderful accoustics etc. I have senn Adi Marzban's production of "Evita" here in Goa. The production was labelledby internation critics at the time, as better than that performed on Broadway NY, and at Albert Hall in London. The design and ambience of Charles Correia at the Kala, did justice to the production and performance, of such an epoch making Event. The Rangbhavan in Bombay, has been hired for use by Goan Tiatrists many times for staging the tiatre. The Birla Theatre is an Indoor Auditorium inside the Bombay Hospital Annexe in the basement next and very close to the Cross on Cross Maidan. I had first known this place when Nehru, India's first PM had come there in those early days. Again since it is close to Dhobitalao, it was another popular hall for staging the Tiatre. St Mary's School Hall is over the Rly Bridge in Byculla, that used to come handy for Tiatre as it was close by to the Goan population residing in Mazagon and Byculla areas. I am at a loss to locate Bhagvathi; but there used to be a great, not so big, Theatre on Kalbadevi Road near to Dhobitalao, which was the springboard for Goan tiatrists in the field of acting, singing and composing all that goes to make a successful Drama on stage. I think the name was, 'princess theatre', but not so sure. The great Anthony Mendes who was almost always drunk, used to be carried there, and stood up on stage. When the band struck the first chords, and the curtains opened, he used to come Alive, and nobody could decipher that the great tiatrist Comedian was drunk. Myself have been to just a few tiatres in Bombay; but had a lot of info thru the grapevine when I lived in Princess Street before I got married and moved out to Bandra. Well that is all folks, for now. Curtains Down. [Goanet] Gitanjali Gallery Exhibition---the Bronzes
Will not get into excessive detail on this, but the whole show @ Gitanjali Gallery is of great interest, both for its variety and quality. The bronze sculptures by Tom and Jeanette Fernandes strike me as on benchmark level with Rodin --- kidding you not. The prices will strike us on first impression as being high, but on second thought I think we can agree that they are not at all excessive for this kind of work. Who will buy? I'd make the suggestion that this work should be snapped up by State, Regional or Central National Museums. [Goanet] salary of CM. MLA
This might help From archive: Aug. 2009 Quote: So, What's your official Salary Mr. Goa MLA? Well, it depends. This is on top of our fixed salary say Rs.5,000 pm (?) Other perks: Constituency allowance Rs.55,000 pm (see note 1) House attending/sitting/accommodation allowance: Rs.7,000 (av. pm) see note2 Personal Assistants salary Allowance: Each MLA can have upto four PAs with a Salary of Max. Rs. 8000 pm per PA. (However, MLA can have one PA and show other 3 as dummy PAs (as in CCP) and claim or earn additional upto Rs.24,000 pm. (Ravi naik played that tricks, showing his sons as employees for salary purpose) Pension: This amount vary. Min. being Rs.8000 pm to Max.50,000 pm e.g. Pratap Singh Rane will get the highest Rs.50,000 pm (see note 3) His Son Jr. Rane will get Rs.10,500 pm Manohar Parrikar BJP will get Rs.25,500 pm. Agxi MLA Silveira to get Rs.19,250 pm. Micky Pacheco Rs.15,000 pm. Diggu Kamat CM will get Rs.25,500 pm. Pratap Gawas, the newest, will get Rs.8,000 pm. Plus - Other perks like cheap loan up to Rs.32 lacs to buy land/houses paying in 20 years. - Free Plots etc Other unofficial (haram) perks: - A percentage from builders/mega projects etc - A fixed percentage from other local/civil contractors - A fixed monthly income from Matka bookies/gamblers/illegal bullfights And lot more So, who wants to be an MLA? Notes: 1. CM Digu (and Parrikar) says that the last revision was done 5 years ago but It was only increased from 8K to 26K March last year (?) and MLA Anil Sangaokar suggested to increase the same 3 times more? 2. Assuming there are 5 sessions in a year each of 10 days duration) 3. Although Sr. Rane is entitled to 53k as per rules, he will get only 50k, max limit being 50K pm) 4. I think, earlier, MLA was getting pension only if he/she completes full 5 year term but now everyone is a pensioner? 5. Figures shown under pension above are the minimum one can get as on date, however, if the same MLAs are also Ministers, they could get more. 6. The above figs arrived based on the recent bill ‘The Goa Salary,Allowance and Pension of MLAs’ which just got through the Goa Assembly costing additional financial burden to Goa of Rs.5.81 crores. RESPONSE: Dear Mr. Mesquita, One of the hallmarks of a politician is his brilliant ability of 'misrepresenting' the words of others. A politician will sometimes do so by intentionally or negligently omitting a related word (or a related set of words) from the statement of another. Example: If a woman tells you that she just might give you a hug IF you brush your teeth, Do NOT forget the last 5 words of that sentence, and come crying here. [Goanet] Letter to C.M.
Dear Honourable C.M., First of all may I congratulate you on your overwhelming victory; the die was cast, Catholic voters, were urged at Sunday Mass, not to vote for corrupt Politicians. I do hope and trust that you will not abuse the confidence entrusted in you by the minority Goans. Your agenda speaks volumes for our Goa 'El Dourado". Goans are not expecting miracles, so long as you uphold natural justice and reject babsheesh, we shall all be okay. Just a reminder though, your putting aside "Good Friday" a very important feast for the minorities does not equate to the same setting aside of a not so important Hindu Feast. Please be mindful of that. It would be simple to follow the Singapore code wherein the Muslims i.e. Malays, Indians, Christians and the majority Chinese are all accorded equal holidays. Now being in a predominant Hindu India, we do not expect the same, being in a significant and influential minority in Goa, we expect respect and tolerance. Next time I come to Goa I shall be more than happy to have some food street food with you! Your reign as C.M. and that of your Party will hold for many, many long years, so long as you hold true to your agenda. Good governance will see that the you will have the vast majority of Goans with you. [Goanet] Regional Plan to be cancelled within 8 days: Parrikar
-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM: The Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar today warning the congress against de-stabilising the government announced that the Regional Plan will be cancelled in next eight days. Parrikar was today speaking at a function organised by the Bicholim BJP mandal at Hirabai Zantye hall Bicholim. "In next eight days the Regional Plan will be cancelled which is not in favour of the Goans and if any of the congress ministers is involved in granting permission to any projects the entire responsability would be theirs" Parrikar told. He also warned Vishwajeet Rane that if he tries to de-stabilise the government with his tactics he would pay for it. "Rane should follow and accept the mandate of the people and sit in opposition rather than thinking about getting back to power in next six months" Parrikar said "rather than forming government he should think about development of the constituency." Re: [Goanet] Mapusa and the new dispensation
[1] Tony de Sa: Mapusa reeks like a pig sty and is in a total shambles. From being North Goa's premier shopping/ bazaar town, it has descended to becoming a ghanti town. The problem with Mapusa is the same as what ails most of Goan towns. Please don't glorify them by calling them cities. [2] Selma to Tony: The truth of the matter is 50 years after Liberation, the townships have been made unfit for human habitation. If you think Mapusa is a ghanti town, then a visit to Margao will make you feel considerably better in living on that side of the Zuari. [3] Floriano Lobo to Manohar Parrikar: (about a decade ago) The Kadamba Bus terminus is an open toilet. The World Famous and Touristic attraction, the Mapusa Market is a MESS in CAPITAL LETTERS. Our Mapusa river is being polluted with raw sewage of entire Mapusa and it is poisoned already. Please attend to these three things on priority basis and do yourself a favour. [4] Manohar Parrikar (reportedly) to Floriano: Florian-bab, you can expect vast changes in Mapusa before Christmas. [5] Floriano Lobo to Manohar Parrikar: (AFTER that Christmas - about a decade ago) pray which Christmas did you mean??? --- "no further word from Manohar Parrikar" - [6] Rajan Parrikar to Floriano Lobo I, too, have been let down my Manohar-bab in the past. what is more important NOW is the expectation going forward. The whole of Goa has decayed into a ghati town. Give them (the CM and the Dy CM) some time (100-150 days, say). COMMENT: As a son-in-law of Bardez, I have had the good fortune of going to the Mapuca market on more days than just Fridays. Got to know a number of the long-time shop-keepers. Apparently, it was a really clean and organised market with some nice shops. And then, the 'ghatification' (that Rajan repeatedly refers to) followed. I believe the politically correct term for that is 'Librashun'. Sorry to say this but I just cannot see how food items could be sold (and purchased) under conditions which are so filthy. Goans are probably liberated from their senses. IMO It is better to have a simple but clean life than one which is filthy rich, as in rich but filthy. In any event, this 'filthification' process did not start with Parrikar, and the problems are not simple, their solutions neither. Let us remember that the BJP contested this election on the platform of their manifesto. So, as Rajan rightly says: Give them some time wrt to non-manifesto items. jc --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---

Re: [Goanet] MEMORANDUM WITH EIGHT DEMANDS SUBMITTED TO CM
Dear Aires, In the interest of preserving the NEUTRAL STATUS of Goa's self-governing bodies like Panchayats and Municipalities we would want you to URGE the New Chief Minister to issue strict directives to the State Election Commission (Mr. Borkar) to see that no political party plays with these bodies and claim to have this Panchayat and that Municipality with them. It does not bode well for GOA if these self-governing bodies are infiltrated with the rot of the present Goan politics and politicians which is centered on nothing else but vote-banks. Today's papers has Manohar Parrikar's photograp taken amids the BICHOLIM MUNICIPAL COUNCILORS. Is this fare? If the Chief Minister of GOA does not know his limitations, who will??? [Goanet] Congress Defeat and Introspection
Dear all When you loose something very important and precious, you are in a state denial and confusion.Thats what is happening to Congress and its die hard supporters right now.The writing was on the wall for all to see, except the looters and destroyers of Goa.They thought that all the money, big speeches and fake Promises by their High command in Delhi would get them back in Power. They underestimated the psyche of Goyenkars, specially the Catholics, who were taken for granted as their vote banks in the name of Communalism. All they can do is go back to the drawing board and start fres and tell their Delhi Babus that Goa is not Indias backyard and Goyenkars have their own values and pride which cannot be bought with ill gotten money! Goyenkars of all shade and color have voted for Manohar Parrikar who happens to be in BJP and have sent a strong message that they will do it again if future of Goa is threatened. [Goanet] Subject: MLAs SHOULD STICK TO LEGISLATING GOOD LAWS
Dear Aires You wrote and I quote : " Unfortunately Ministers and MLA's have been running the day to day administration and in most cases they have been virtually controlling and manipulating the police stations in their area." No wonder Goa's administration and governance is in such a mess! Most Ministers and MLA's in Goa can hardly read and write, and seem incapable of running a corner tea shop! But given that so many of them are crorepatis and their fortunes have grown and multiplied so rapidly in the past 5 or 10 years, I suspect that they were busy running their various businesses and scams and not the Goa government and administration at all. How do people in Goa seriously expected and still expect characters like Churchill Alemao and his clan, Monserrate and Mickey Pacheco and others of the same calibre to legislate good laws or run the government, totally escapes me. What is even more worrying to me is what does this pattern of voting says about the state of mind or reasoning of Goans who persist in voting for incompetence and people of dubious ethics and criminal backgrounds. So the new government with Parrikar as CM is a ray of hope and a relief that someone dynamic, educated and intelligent has taken over the reins. But only time will tell if this government will really walk the talk, as no doubt , there will be plenty of temptations on the way to divert them from the path of good governance. [Goanet] TIMES of INDIA's OPEN SPACES & INDIAN CATHOLICS
Times of India’s 10/3/12 Saturday’s bombay edition had a front page article with the subject ‘Lets give ourselves the space we deserve’………TOI in the article claims it will start a campaign to bring together various sections of society to discuss how the quality of life can be improved by enhancing the availability and quality of open spaces in bombay………but why is TOI bothered about open spaces in bombay when TOIs Saturday supplement Times Property has articles in favour of builders lobby and full of advertisements from builders lobby who are eating up all open spaces…….why this Kolaveri Di ………anyway if TOI is serious about protecting the last few bits of open spaces in bombay then they should start a campaign to force the Maharahstra govt. to make encroachment of open spaces by builders or slumlords or landSharks a non-bailable offence punishable with 10 years in jail………..TOI reporters should also be kind enough to write articles on why the marathi manoos working in bmc, police, collectorsoffice, citysurveyoffices, rationoffice took bribes from mafia backed slumlords & builders and allowed slums & illegal constructions to flourish all over bombay and would the marathi manoos allow slums & illegal constructions to flourish all over bombay if bombay was their (marathimanoos) native placesomebody needs to enlighten the TOI to either change the name of BombayTimes to MumbaiTimes or MumbaiMirror to BombayMirror. IF anyone wants to know how bombay looked before the Protestant Britishers began the industrialization process and allowed Marathis, Gujaratis, Parsis and others to settle in bombay should go in the Gorai-Manori-Uttan region……….the sad part is a few years or decades from now the gorai-manori-uttan region may also become a concrete jungle since that region has come under the scanner of builders & corporates who want to setup Real Estate Zones. The Congress-NCP controlling the Maharashtra govt. is going to come up with a new industrial policy on 16/3/2012 focussing on creating mini-bombays in other parts of Maharashtra so that the marathi manoos does not have to migrate to Bombay for office/factory/industrial jobs………but for the industrial policy to become successful lands will have to be acquired for setting up industries and farmers in Maharashtra are in no mood to part with their land………..which means the marathi manoos will continue to depend on Bombay for office/factory/industrial jobs. Ndtv – Timesnow – CNNIbn – Headlinestoday are very enthusiastic about the previous corrupt regime in UttarPradesh being replaced by a new regime with a new 38 year old CM……..but none of these TV news channels will bother to report on the real reason why there is so much crime corruption poverty unemployment in UttarPradesh……anyway the reason is the huge population of 20 crore people in UP……..China has become a great economic power because the dictatorship regime in that country during the last 30 years has been following a combination of strict industrial development & population control policy……..can the new CM of UttarPradesh replicate the policy of China in UttarPradesh…….not possible…..because for industrial development large tracts of lands will have to be acquired and farmers in UP are not going to give up their lands………..and enforcing one or two child policy in UttarPradesh is out of question because majority of politicians in UP including the new CM of UP have more than two children….an interesting point to note is the strongest opposition to population control policy in the world does not come from hindu muslim Buddhist jewish religious leaders the strongest opposition comes from the Vaticanif the POPE/Vatican are fond of more people then they should be kind enough to persuade all western governments including Italian govt. to allow 500 million people from India to permanently settle in western countries without any passport & visa requirements. The Dailymail recently reported that Britain will cease to be a Christian Nation by 2030……….but why just Britain…… all over Europe, the great cathedrals stand empty on most days, filled with more tourists than worshipers. Some cathedrals, are generally attended by more priests and nuns than lay people……….by 2030 Europe will also cease to be a Christian continent…even the Church in America is weak and ineffective, it has no influence on American people……..the rot in Christianity in Western Countries began from the 1960s onwards because most of the Christian Clergy began living a Secular life and also began indulging in illegal & corrupt activities and some even resorted to abusing small children all of which resulted in the laity in the western countries loosing their trust in the clergy and christianity. Jesus Christ the only Son of God came on earth in a human form not to setup catholic - protestant - baptist - orthodox churches……Jesus Christ came on earth to blast out corrupt politicians & religious leaders during his timetoday most of the Chr

Press Release : As part of the ongoing *Between the Lines Series* at Gitanjali Gallery, Dan Driscoll will present a one-hour exposition of ‘*The Chinese Book of Changes * (*The* *I Ching*) on Wednesday ,March 15th(6:00 P.M.).The *Book of Changes * (*I Ching*) is a classic of ancient (Chinese) 'wisdom literature' originally compiled and edited by Confucius.Dan will sketch the main principals of *I Ching* composition, and actually do ‘*a reading*’ on behalf of those present at the Session. The *Book of Changes* (*I Ching*) is a classic of ancient (Chinese) 'wisdom literature' that has been of intense interest to world scholarship for the past century or more. Originally compiled and edited by Confucius, who lived some four centuries before the Christian Era (d. 469 BCE), it become known in the West only as of the Mid 20th Century, primarily as result of the masterful translation of texts from Chinese archival scrolls into German by Sinologist Dr. Richard Wilhelm. A translation from German into English (Bayley) appeared in the mid-fifties from *Bollingen Press,* the Publishing wing of Geneva-based *Bollingen Foundation* established by psychologist-philosopher C.G. Jung. A twenty-page *Foreword* was contributed for this ‘introduction of The Book of Changes to the West’ by Carl Jung himself. The same content, complete with the Jung *Foreword*, (under the Penguin Group publisher-label) is currently available from * Amazon*. Dan Driscoll was of age thirty years when the Bollingen English Edition of *I Ching* first appeared. He was introduced to it by one of his secondary school students, in Edmonton-Canada. Having learned the comparatively simple (modernized) method for ‘the coin oracle’, he and his late wife used the *I Ching* as a guide to lifestyle choice and decision-making,from the time of their marriage (Canada 1972) until long after their retirement move to Goa-India. Compiled and edited by Confucius, twenty-five hundred years ago, as a guide for ethical conduct in public service, the ‘hippie-culture’ of the 60s hailed the *I Ching* as a ‘divination tool’. Confucius may not have intended his work to become a reference standby for Hugh Hefner’s Bunny Clubs, or for young people on Goan beaches to ‘consult the oracle’ concerning the best choice of person to date for the coming weekend! Driscoll emphasizes that the *Book of Changes *has nothing to do with ‘*the occult*’, or with such trivial pursuits as ‘fortune telling’, ‘crystal ball gazing’, ‘teacup reading’, or ‘the Ouija Board. In the Gitanjali Session he will sketch the main principals of *I Ching* composition, and actually do ‘*a reading*’ on behalf of those present at the Session. *** Bookmark Dan Driscoll. [Goanet] Let's stop Goa's Illegal Slum Politics!!
At the recent Goa Elections, most of the in-competent Anti Goan MLA's got elected due to slum politics via imported and illegally pampered vote-banks. Classic example is that Goa's worst performing and now ex-Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, got re-elected with the big help of Voters, who care less for Goans and Goa's Interests. This is seriously detrimental to True democracy which gives Anti-Goan politicians the power, to do whatever they want to destroy and loot Goa. Of course, it is also well know that slums are hot-beds of Crime and used by specific Goan politicians for criminal activities. Can we verify voting rights of these slum residents in their home state? Dear Tony, My heart goes out to you because every bit of what you write is true and you have no hesitation in calling a spade a spade. You're an honest to goodness Goan, the sort of chap that works all his life and expects nothing more from the world than a quiet, clean, civil country to live in. The truth of the matter is 50 years after Liberation, the townships have been made unfit for human habitation. What makes this an absolute crime against humanity is that each of our MLAs are worth their weight in crores. An honest Goan working a lifetime cannot save a crore and believe me that applies even to NRIs, yet these men have managed to leech off the Goan blood while the townships rot. This is something the Parrikar government can certainly make a start in correcting and I hope they do, starting with Digu's own constituency Margao.
