[Goanet] Proof that Kangress is honest whereas Manohar Parrikar is not
To Goanet - The iron-clad mathematical proof came to me just as I was about to dip an undo into my chao. 1: Kangress did not promise zero-tolerance to corruption. Parrikar did. 2: Kangress delivered infinite corruption. Parrikar will deliver non-zero corruption. It follows from (1) and (2) that Kangress did not break any promise whereas Parrikar did (will). Ergo, Kangress: super honest; Parrikar: super dishonest. QED. Footnote: It has been assumed above that zero tolerance to corruption is the same as zero corruption, which even women and children know not to be the case. r --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---

Sudin Dhavlikar who was accused of corruption by BJP now finds a respectable position in their Government as PWD minister. [Goanet] Recollections of Mau Mau (Oral History project)
Dear goanet readers It was good to see that one of our senior people like Mervyn Maciel come forward and commented on the contents of the above video recording and I hope that those editing the final copy of the project to be placed in the British Museum will take a note of it and table a true and accurate record of events. The Mau Mau era is well documented by the BBC. Mervyn Maciel has written about his early days in Kenya in his book Bwana Karani, a government clerk in colonial British East Africa, a copy of this can be found in the Goa library in Panjim. Another gem of a book well researched and written by Braz Menezes Just Matata talks about when the Portuguese ruled Kenya before the British to the days of the First World War where for the first time bunk beds were installed in the ships Kampala and Karanga that took our people on their holidays between Goa and Mombasa. GSU, as Gabe mentioned, did exist and played an important part in keeping law and order and tribal violence apart. They were similar to the SPG (Special Patrol Group) in Britain or the Riot Police found in most cities. They take no prisoners. The late Manolem Fernandes from Colvale catered for Princess Elizabeth during her visit to Kenya, at the time when her father died and she became Queen. It is also true that Goan people at the first sign of trouble would be under the bed. Can't speak for the Europeans as they lived separately. My feelings are the same as Gabe on this publicly funded project Sadly the people with first hand information have not yet come forward . For the record, the best memories of Goans in East Africa have already been captured wonderfully by the photographs Frederick Noronha has kindly uploaded to share with us and has posted links on goanet from time to time. These show our people enjoying life to the full which is exactly what most of us did and still do, where possible, to this very day. [Goanet] BJP's bravado against mining dissipates
'Government won't depend on mining revenue' http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-03-13/goa/31159189_1_gmoea-mining-industry-manohar-parrikar Parrikar fires first salvo at mining industry! We cannot allow extraction of 55 million tonnes like it has happened earlier. Something like 30 to 35 million tonnes can be alright, Parrikar said, adding that a consensus could be worked out for defining sustainable mining. Parrikar also said that the state would have to be weaned away from dependency on the mining sector. http://freepressjournal.in/news/52545-Parrikar-fires-first-salvo--at-mining-industry-.html Currently ore extraction is pegged at 55 million metric tons. This figure had come down to 30-42 million metric tons, said Chief Minister while replying to a question about how he would manage to make up for revenue loss once petrol price is brought down as promised by BJP in its manifesto. http://www.indiaenvironmentportal.org.in/category/newspaper/herald-panjim Goa government rules out ban on iron ore exports In Goa, the exports are hallmark of the mining industry. The recommendations by the M B Shah Commission to ban the exports cannot be accepted, Parrikar told reporters here. Parrikar said Goa cannot survive if exports of iron ore are banned from the state. The Shah Commission members have wrongly interpreted Goa's situation, probably because the members on the Commission were not Goans. http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2012-03-16/news/31201287_1_gmoea-secretary-low-grade-iron-ore --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---
Re: [Goanet] Recollections of Mau Mau
On 17 March 2012 08:40, Mervyn Elsie Maciel mervynels.watuwasha...@gmail.com wrote: I agree with Gabe that the abbreviation K.P.R. did stand for Kenya Police Reserve. A few Europeans and Asians were recruited for this force. The Kenya Regiment was made up of more hardy young men. Another aspect I found a trifle difficult to believe was where one interviewee says that she could hear the cries(or words to that effect) of those who were being attacked. Throughout my own experiences during the Mau Mau Emergency, I cannot recall any Goan or other family living with earshot of such atrocities. Mervyn Maciel RESPONSE: This is what a website has to say about the Kenya Regiment: http://home.comcast.net/~kenyaregiment/about.html Seems to me this was a preserve of the 'whites'. According to the site some served in Turkana Land - so you would be somewhat familiar? In response to another's post, fragility of memory is excusable but when one gives the impression that they were in the thick and thin of East African Colonialism; including having actually witnessed the brutality first hand, then it makes it all the more important that facts are checked out - else what is posted, will surely make Goans a laughing stock? Something so profound would have been a lived experience not an imagined one. When a trailer is shown in the Cinema - the captivating parts are shown to entice the audience to attend. Similarly, I am of the opinion that when a clip of 4-5 minutes is put out, from a possible 60-120 minutes, it should be succinct not some bondalam or imagined situation. Banding names such as Rene, Eddie and Mervyn, should automatically give the project credence and respectability? -- DEV BOREM KORUM Gabe Menezes. --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---
[Goanet] The chattering classes (Rajan P. Parrikar)
Talking about consultants, reminds me of an anecdote that I came across. A consultant from the consulting firm Arthur Andersen was driving past the countryside in his sparkling BMW when he spotted a farmer grazing his sheep. He stops and parks his car by the side of the road and walks up to the farmer. He tells the farmer 'if I can tell you how many sheep you have, will you give me one of your sheep?' The farmer is taken by surprise with this unexpected offer but nods his head in agreement. The consultant walks back to his car, brings out his laptop and starts working on it. After a few minutes he informs the farmer that he has 1,652 sheep. The farmer is awestruck. He nods his head in approval and tells the visitor to pick up a sheep of his choice. The visitor picks up an animal, carries it under his arms and starts walking back to the car, when he is interrupted by the farmer. 'Hey, wait a minute' calls out the farmer,'if I can guess your profession will you give me back my sheep?' The visitor nods his head in agreement fully confident that the farmer would never win. The farmer says ' you work as a consultant'. This time the visitor's jaw drops. He asks the farmer what made him guess correctly. To which the farmer replied ' you came here without being invited, you made me an offer which I did not ask for, and informed me something which was already known to me and more importantly you cannot make out the difference between a sheep and a dog. Now may I get my dog back please?' Regards, Marshall *A tomcat on heat was disturbing the neighbourhood with a lot of noise and destruction of roof tiles, so he was summoned by the people of the neighbourhood and warned to stop the nuisance but to no avail. In desperation the good folks castrated the tomcat and the nuisance stopped - but only for a short period. Very soon, the tomcat was at it again but now the disturbance had quadrupled because our tomcat was accompanied by a number of other tomcats, including from the surrounding areas. Puzzled, the neighbourhood folks summoned the tomcat and asked for an explanation. No problem, it replied, I know how to do it but am myself totally incapable of doing it. So, I now dispense good advice, I have become a successful consultant.* *Bernardo de Sousa * --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---

[Goanet] Re Can I apply for an Aadhar card ?
Tony De Sa has explained what the Aadhar card is all about. To my knowledge it is only for Indian Nationals (i.e. full Citizens of India, not OCI or PIO or people holding foreign ceitizenship). The Aadhar card, Voting (Election) card, Ration card etc. are only for Indian nationals, and foreign citizens holding such a card are doing so illegally. The only card that you can hold as a foreign citizen is a Drivers License and a PAN (Income Tax) card, so that you can report your foreign income and pay taxes in India if you reside here for more than six months of the year. Re: [Goanet] Proof that Kangress is honest whereas Manohar Parrikar isnot
Goa Su-Raj does not make promises that will not be honoured. Because it has built a SYSTEM under-which none can: 'konacheach kanan tel galunk zaina' If it is done, then the SYSTEM will deal with the defaulters most immediately. [This includes Ministers, MLAs and Department heads, CONTRACTORS] WHEREAS Compare the KANGRESS/BA JA PA governance to this: Corruption orginates from distribution of lucrative portfolios where there is no co-ordinated 'cabinet' working. i.e. each one is his own boss where s/he he can do anything s/he likes. Ex. Vishwajeet Rane as Health Minister, Churchill/Davlikar as PWD Ministers, Digamber Kamat as Mines Minister, Felip Neri Rodrigues as Forest Minister, Babu Asgaonkar as Panchayat/Sports minister... etc etc. etc. Each minister minds his own 'BUSINESS' and otherwise behaves like a dog-in-the-manger i.e. 'you don't come close to my 'bone' or else I'll maul you up. [GRR ] With Su-Raj at the helm, Corruption is minimized in this manner: No MLA can get lucrative gifts of corporations and Institutions. They are in fact debarred from holding offices of profit. [Art. 38 of party constitution] Any MLA can be Chief Minister or ministers. This decision is taken by the Electoral College at the post election PARTY CONVENTION. CM elect holds 2 important portfolios. Home and Finance. Rest of the portfolios are balanced in 5 CHARTS and can be chosen by the ministers elect in order of their ranking.[Cabinet limited to just 5. Art. 34] Cabinet meets every day and works CO-ORDINATEdly. Any Minister can point out flaws in the working of any other ministry/department. NO 'tum tujem poi...aum mojem poitam'. 'Tendering' department INSULATED from the CABINET. Works independently. Therefore no percentages to be made and inferior quality of workmanship tolerated. Highly sophisticated 'Materials Testing 'LAB' will be in place and WORKING where every sample is tested from time to time. If samples fail the test, the respective CONTRACTOR gets black-listed and OUTTED after making good the damage. This way roads, dams, bridges whathaveyou will last till these are supposed to last. GUARANTEED No one can build vote banks. Su-Raj Government works on the basis of NO SECOND TERM. [ Candidates sign AFFIDAVITS to this effect before being given the ticket] If at all the concerned MLA deserves the second term, the CWC [Constituency Working Committee] decides, since the next ticket is by right kept for the incumbent PRESIDENT OF THE CWC. However, no one gets the THIRD TERM. No Minister or MLA interferes with the POLICE. If they want the POLICE to do certain thing/s or act/s, they sign for it. Nothing 'oral' or 'verbal' To add to this long list, ENFORCEMENT DIRECTORATE AND CBI will have their permanant residence in AMCHEM BANGARACHEM GOEM and will not be tied down to a pole with a COLLAR CHAIN. So, therefore, Rajan, Sir, You can put me on the mat if CORRUPTION can still survive in this written down SYSTEM OF GOVERNANCE. And if at all it does, how it can go UNPUNISHED. The above system is designed not only to keep the ruling government on the straight road, but also to sniff out the wrong doers in the previous governments and PUNISH them UNDER THE LAW OF THE LAND Don't you think Goa will need to extend the FORT AGUADA JAIL??? Parrikar parri...@yahoo.com To: goa...@goanet.org Sent: Sunday, March 18, 2012 10:21 AM Subject: [Goanet] Proof that Kangress is honest whereas Manohar Parrikar isnot To Goanet - The iron-clad mathematical proof came to me just as I was about to dip an undo into my chao. QED. Footnote: It has been assumed above that zero tolerance to corruption is the same as zero corruption, which even women and children know not to be the case. r --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---
Re: [Goanet] Talking of toilets (by Rose Fernandes)
See also a recent op-ed by Amrit Dhillon... http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/politics/why-india-is-not-a-superpower-20120314-1v3b1.html ... The poor still do not have homes, basic sanitation, decent schools or nutritious food. As a young girl in American author Katherine Boo's much-acclaimed new book Behind the Beautiful Forevers, about life in a Mumbai slum, says: We try so many things but the world doesn't move in our favour. Middle-class Indians need to read Boo's book about life in a rat-infested hovel, near a sewage lake, with rampant dengue fever, malaria and tuberculosis, with scraps for meals, a single toilet for 100 families and then try claiming that India is becoming a superpower. There are many criteria for defining a superpower, but for India an extra one should be added. Let no one utter the world ''superpower'' till every Indian family has a toilet in their home. From: Melvyn Fernandes mel...@orange.net To: goa...@goanet.org Sent: Friday, 16 March 2012 7:12 PM Subject: [Goanet] Talking of toilets (by Rose Fernandes) Dear goanet readers The following article was published on the BBC News website yesterday: Quote: Nearly half of India's 1.2 billion people have no toilet at home, but more people own a mobile phone, according to the latest census data. Only 46.9% of the 246.6 million households have lavatories while 49.8% defecate in the open. The remaining 3.2% use public toilets. Census 2011 data on houses, household amenities and assets reveal that 63.2% of homes have a telephone. Analysts say the data show the complex contradictions of the Indian system. --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---
