[Goanet] Featured This Week: Vocalist Jessie Laine Powell ~ On the Edge Sneak Peek of Fill The Void
(https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/on-the-edge/id275070333?ign-mpt=uo%3D4) (http://www.jessielainepowell.com) (http://www.jessielainepowell.com)She has been called “a classic jazz voice”. Her smooth sound and delivery of her RB and Gospel roots run deep. A preachers daughter, Jessie grew up singing the gospel music in her church, but it was jazz that began to capture her. Before long jazz and RB began to dominate her musical tastes. Being heavily influenced by several people in the entertainment industry, Jessie packed up and moved to Hollywood. After a short time on the West Coast, Jessie found herself caught up with alcohol and pregnant. Jessie left the LA spotlight after a prophetic call from a close family member who warned Jessie that she would return back to Kentucky in a wooden box if she didn’t change her life. Taking heed of the warning, Jessie found herself heading back on a plane to Kentucky with a karaoke machine in one hand, a suitcase in the other, and a seven-month old baby inside of her. Unfortunately, that very same baby would pass away just three months later. Jessie found herself plummeting into a deep depression. In her pain, Jessie concluded that suicide would be her only answer and her way out. But as fate would have it, that attempt would lead to her rediscovering God and finding her new salvation. This would shift her life. While on the edge of life and death, Jessie found her way back to her roots of Gospel Music. She then began intertwining it with the Jazz she loved, creating a unique sound called Gospel Jazz. (http://www.jessielainepowell.com)With her new-found sound, Jessie would meet and begin working with producer Eric Copeland of Creative Soul Jazz. This collaboration brought her new debut album“ On the Edge” in which she wrote many of the songs. Jessie launched her own production company, Jessie Laine Powell Productions based in the beautiful city of Lexington, KY. She is currently traveling and singing all across America being salt in other parts of the world. Jessie is working on her newest release on Creative Soul Jazz entitled “Fill the Void.” In addition to her production company, Jessie also launched the Indie Factor Movement. IFM is designed to help bridge the gap for the independent artist, giving them the tools to be a united front and help them reach the next level in their musical careers. Through Indie Factor Movement, Jessie has the opportunity to exercise her gifts and talents such as vocal training, advisor, and mentor. Jessie Laine Powell is a force and a sound to be reckoned with in the twenty-first century. Jessie gives God the glory for every mountain and trial she has overcome. [Goanet] ‘Mining-dependent’ demand central govt intervention
-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM: Mining-dependent people from the hinterland and interiors of Goa on Friday united under the banner of Goa Mining People's Front (GMPF) for a rally at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maidan in Bicholim. They announced their appreciation and thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for visiting Goa on Saturday, before making an appeal to the central government to take necessary steps towards the resumption of mining in Goa. It's a matter of great pride for the people of Goa that Prime Minister Modi chose this beautiful tiny state for his first visit outside Delhi after becoming Prime Minister, said GMPF president Anand Naik. Participants at the gathering said they wanted to highlight their plight casued by the closure of the local mining industry. Some fly-by-night operators brought disrepute to the industry which ultimately led to the mining ban. The ban affected the livelihood of 25% of Goa's population, said Prakash Parab, a member of the GMPF. GMPF have appealed that Modi and chief minister Manohar Parrikar take immediate steps to resume mining in the state, renew mining leases, issue environment clearances to deserving mines, increase the cap on iron-ore production and formulate a policy on iron ore dumps. In January, Prime Minister Modi had spoken with great anguish against the ban on mining, and had said that it will be only a matter of days once the BJP comes to power at Centre that mining operation will be fully resumed in Goa. During the recently held Parliamentary election, the people in Goa offered overwhelming support to the BJP and elected the party's nominees in both districts of the state. said GMPF member Pandurang Parab adding that the people are full of hope and optimism that the promises made then will be fulfilled soon and legitimate mining operations in the state will restart immediately. This would not only enable mining dependent people to lead their lives normally and meaningfully but will also fulfill the NDA government's promise for 'Sabka saath, sabka vikas'. (toi)
[Goanet] The fall of the rarefied Christian Brahmin
Roland Francis ( June 13 ) writes inter alia: under the Portuguese regime there was a section of Catholic Brahmin class in Goa , who treated themselves like local royalty They were primarily from Margao, were large landowners, ...usually had Aryan good looks, light hair, fair skin, light eyes Mr. Roland Francis' perception of this particular class in Margao is not different from the perception of my fellow student colleagues i.e. not so fair skinned Goan catholic brahmins who insisted that these fair skinned people living around Margao church were part of their own caste, hence the they too claimed to be of local royalty. My own perception of these fair skinned people was (and still is) that they were of mestisso community who did very well for themselves from economic point of view. If my memory serves me right these people always claimed themselves to be descendentes with pure Portuguese blood. and have never heard the word brahmin coming from their mouths.

[Goanet] ILLEGALITIES OF USING RED BEACONS IN GOA STATE AND VIOLATION UNDER SUPREME COURT GUIDELINES
RED BEACONS WITH FLASHER, OR NO FLASHERS We have 3 categories of Red beacons in India, but there are certain dignitaries who are still found violating the SC rules. Our Goa State Home Department should have guided those who do not obey these SC guidelines, unfortunately no one bothered to follow it up. This is a great mistake again committed by our CM as he has already done recently a mistake approving a study tour for his Ministers and MLA’s for a junket tour to Brazil to watch the World Cup on the pretext that they will be needed to learn organization technique and other management skills etc and still justifying their trip. Also he said and it is true, that Goa is a well known state in football activities from the beginning and that Goans are football lovers including him and that their acquired knowledge would have been useful but why needed to spend such a huge amount? Anyway now the matter is shelved by the Prime Minister. Thank GOD. Now, coming back to the Red Beacons issue, the SC did a wonderful job making all these people for accountability and also not loitering with their Beacons for their personal use etc. There are few dignitaries who are still not following these orders from SC. In fact the AAP leader Mr Arvind Kejriwal wanted to introduce these rules. Now is that the Navhind Times dt 13th June 2014 came with the listing of all types of users of Beacons who are in the approved list. We expect that the RTO under the orders from CM should start inspecting all the vehicles in Goa and other states for violation. The list needs to be made public. There are 3 categories for entitlement like; i) RED BEACON WITH FLASHER ii) RED BEACONS WITHOUT FLASHERS iii) NON FLASHERS RED BEACONS and also other kind of Beacons such Blue- -Yellow meant for fire services, ambulances and Police etc. All these categories are supposed to make it clear by Goa State RTO so that public and especially the intelligence personnel ( CID), could watch these vehicles movement in the state and accordingly the offenders could be taken to task. We have in Goa tourists coming from different states and rooming freely around this state with all kind of beacons and nobody knows whether these are genuine cases as they could be gangsters, bandits, or even terrorists. The Home Department of Goa should be able to gear up for any violations of SC rules and instruct the traffic police to firmly exercise these illegalities whether they are VIP’s or other officials etc. who may be using Government vehicles for the personal use for their families. I was told that the Union Government has issued a new approved list which is yet to be made public by RTO. In this new list which is been revised says that there are majority of officials been excluded from the earlier approved list. It seems that the Goa Government has powers and can give their ascent for introduction of any VIP or individual in the listing even if they are not in the list. Stephen Dias D.Paula

Injustice to NRI-Goan Native Student in MBBS Seat Allocation: A letter to CM Manohar Parrikar http://www.goasu-raj.org/gen/news/3488.asp
[Goanet] Fw: GSRP Press Release for kind favour of publication
MBBS Seat Allocation a Money-Making Racket alleges GSRP Goa Su-Raj Party (GSRP) has alleged that the Ministry of Education Directorate of Technical Education are willfully and deliberately toying with careers of NRI-Goan students in return for personal gratification and favors. Bringing to fore the case of Charmaine Melrose Almeida who lost out on the MBBS seat allocation to study to become a doctor at the Goa Medical College, Goa Su-Raj Party, Secretary President (Youth Affairs) explained, In the first Degree Eligibility List made public by the DTE, Charmaine Melrose Almeida is given eligibility in two categories as an NRI and Goan Native (Goan Native being one whose parent/grand parent is born in Goa). Another candidate Lakshmi Sanjaykumar Nikam in the Degree Eligibility List is shown only as an NRI. However in the Final Degree Admission Merit List Charmaine Melrose Almeida is placed third, while Lakshmi Sanjaykumar Nikam is placed second in the two available seat-quote for the NRI-Goan Native, thereby now having to opt for a Non-MBBS course. Rodrigues further elaborated, We put forward an appeal to both the Chief Minister Deputy Chief Minister of. Goa, but we and the girl's family have till now received a cold-shoulder and a non-interest in the issue. In fact when the girl's mother met with the Deputy CM he told her to consider Manipal Hospital MBBS Courses by paying Rs 25lacs and he questioned her on why they wanted to put their daughter in Goa, they should take Portuguese Citizenship. Goa Su-Raj Party representatives family along with girl met with the Director of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE). When showed the Director the errors of the candidate Lakshmi Sanjaykumar Nikam, he retorted by saying her grandmother is of Goan origin. But when questioned as to why it does not appear on the Degree Eligibility List, he answered saying that 'sometimes parents make errors and we guide them to fill the application form even after the Degree Eligibility List is out. To which we brought to his attention Rules of Admission in the prospectus Section 4.09 wherein it states 'no change after last date of submission of application form is permissible'. The director replied back with an even more shocking reply stating, you cannot be a stickler to every single rule and went on to explain that though the day Mark-Sheet date of submission is 24th, CBSE only gave the Mark-Sheet to students on 26th, we cannot follow every rule. Rodrigues expressed, Our conversation with the Director of DTE and the cold-shoulder received from the government indicates that there appears to be a foul-play in action to deny the genuine NRI-Goan native an MBBS seat. We have learned from a colleague of the girl who studied with Lakshmi Sanjaykumar Nikam and is No 4 on the Degree Merit List that the girl always claimed to be a Maharashtrian and never a Goan. It clearly indicates that some have received a gratification to give this candidate a benefit and we demand an investigation from the government. We along with the family will also be going to Court on the issue to bring a stay on the admission process. Also Red card for Pepe could have been avoided and given a Yellow Card, since it was not major fault, but I also blame Pepe because when he was already having possession of the ball there was no need for Pepe to turn back and give him a head butt. That was improper in his part and he deserved it, and probably that simple fault could have gone unnoticed. So, these two things made Portugal demoralized completely and with one less in line up they could not achieve the results. The biggest failure of the team was Goalkeeper who failed miserably and the Coach could have made this change in the first half itself. He is not fit for a goalkeeper in future. Cristiano Rolland was in full form but could not play without any cooperation of the payers and the Coentrao must have been having this groin problem earlier, and the Health check up before the selection is failed and they did not noticed probably, so he needs to be kept as substitute in future games. Overall the score could have been much more than 4 x 0 as the Portugal players were already tied and demoralized with 10 players in the field. If both these cases were not taken place than probably Portugal might have taken the lead., I am sure. Generally for a Good Team what is most important is start up, which Portugal archived for just few minutes of the first half, but the bad penalty made them demoralized. and also the one player lost, and once the spirit went down than everything was a failure.
