[Goanet] THOUGH A MP FROM UP MANOHAR PARRIKAR GETS HIMSELF ADDED TO THE GOA’S LIST OF MPs

2015-03-02 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The official diary of the Goa Government released by the Department of
Information and Publicity every year carries amongst other details the
names and telephone numbers of Goa’s Ministers, MPs and MLAs.

In the diary for 2015 though Manohar Parrikar is not an MP from Goa it was
insisted that his name be included in the list of Goa MPs.

Officials of the Department of Information initially expressed their
inability to oblige Manohar Parrikar as he was a MP from Uttar Pradesh. But
fearing to face the wrath of the very vindictive Manohar Parrikar, the
department meekly bowed down and agreed to wrongly add his name to the list
of MPs from Goa. A very egoistic cheap arm-twisting and foul abuse of power
by Manohar Parrikar. But this is nothing new for someone who manipulated
and managed to remain himself enrolled as a voter of Panaji for over a
decade on a fake residential address.

So as per this 2015 Government diary Goa has four MPs when officially and
factually we have only three. Why does Manohar Parrikar stoop so low in
encouraging such falsities?

VHP belittles Mother Teresa again
Says temples, matts are doing better work than what she did; Fatorda convention
gives clarion call for re-conversion; Wants Ram Mandir at Ayodha; Seeks ban on
cow slaughter in Goa
02 Mar, 2015,

TEAM HERALD

PORVORIM: Close on the heels of RSS chief Mohan Bhawgat’s strong criticism of
Mother Teresa’s work, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) congregation at Fatorda
on Sunday went a step further and belittled the work of the “Saint of the
Gutters” while also giving a clarion call to bring those who have been
converted, back into the Hindu fold.

Staunch VHP figure Pushparaj Swami stated that thousands of Hindus who were
converted to Christianity a century ago should be brought back into the Hindu
fold. “People of other religions are not different, they are our brothers but
the only difference is that they have now become slaves”, said Pusparaj Swami.

He was speaking at the convention organized by VHP at Fatorda on Sunday.

Another VHP strongman Swami A Kadsidheswar stated that there are lakhs of
people in India who have done better social work than Mother Teresa. Mother
Teresa acquired fame by taking care of poor children and proved to the world
that India is a poor country and thus tainted the image of India. In India,
Hindu temples and Matts are doing praiseworthy social work. Mother Teresa
minted money in the name of serving the poor, alleged Swami Kadshideshwar.

He further mentioned that in spite of an onslaught on Hinduism several times,
Hindus have survived. Today India’s population comprises of 80 per cent Hindus.
Many people have sacrificed their lives to protect the Hindu culture. Parents
should ensure that their children preserve the Hindu culture. “Beware of ‘love
jihad’ and keep vigil on your children”, said the Swami.

Ball Maharaj who also spoke at the convention said, “VHP has taught the Hindus
to live with dignity. There is existence of Lord Ram in this country and it is
for this reason that BJP came to power at the Centre”.

Deepak Gaikwad exhorted the crowd to keep a check on Believers who he said were
converting people.

Two resolutions were later adopted at the convention; to construct a Ram Mandir
at Ayodha and banning slaughter of cows in Goa.

MLAs Vishnu Wagh and Pramod Sawant, Yash Dempo and Ashok Chowgule were among
those present at the convention.

The Second Partition of IndiaPosted by: Navhind Times March 1, 2015 in
PanoramaBy Fr Victor Ferrao
The secular fabric of our country appears to be threatened. Voices that desire
to convert India into a monolithic Hindu Rashtra are growing by the day. The
advertisement released by the Government on the day of Republic Day followed by
the rash statement by its ally Shiv Sena has increased anxieties of several
peoples particularly the minorities in our country. The fact that both the
advertisement and rant of the Shiv Sena is unconstitutional and by that token
is anti-national seems to disturb a few. Hence, it is vital that we stand up
for the ideals and values enshrined into our constitution. That is why, it
might be interesting to ask. Is secularism a limitation to our religion? Does
it in any way limit our nationhood? Does our country stand to lose anything
substantive if it remains secular? How a condition of mutual autonomy of
religion and the state morally degrading?
Some of us might be feeling that secularism is a western concept forcefully
implanted into our country. Certainly, the word secularism is occidental but
the spirit of secularism is certainly Indian. Being born in the context of the
hegemony of single religion (Christianity), secularism in the West is polemical
and brings about separation of the state and the Church. Whereas Indian
secularism is dialogical and is based on the openness embedded in the ethos of
our civilisation from the ancient times. It is grounded in the belief of
Vasudhaiva Kutumbukam that accepts everyone as belonging to God’s family and is
a channel that actualises the ideal Sarv dharma sambhava and sab ka mangal.
Hence, spirit of secularism is very Indic and totally different from the
secularism practised in the West. Hence in the name one dimensional nationalism
are we on the verge of throwing the baby with the bath water? Why should be
stop various rivers flowing into the same sea?
The secularism in the west imposes boundaries on religion and the state while
the Indian secularism opens the borders among religions and becomes inclusive
and keeps everyone in its embrace. The rejection of secularism in our country
seems to be bubbling from the desire to bring boundaries among religions and
reinforce the link between majoritarian religion and the state. The roots of
this desire can be traced in the demand that is forced on

[Goanet] IF BHAGWAT IS ANY LEADER OF MEN, HE SHOULD SAY SORRY

1 Mar 2015Hindustan Times (Mumbai)KARAN THAPAR
The RSS Sarsanghchalak’s comment about Mother Teresa reeks of prejudice. More
surprising is that he’s utterly uninformed about the service Mother provided.
Even worse, he’s betrayed complete ignorance of the high opinion in which Atal
Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani hold Mother Teresa. The Sarsanghchalak’s
prejudice is probably explained by the fact that he doesn’t like Christians.
His and the RSS’s suspicion that Christians have carried out mass conversion
campaigns, which he’s even called “loot”, is well-known.Here, what’s revealing
is his lack of knowledge of facts. If Christians have attempted mass
conversions but still languish at 2.3% of the population — and they were 2.6%
in 1971 — they’re pretty hopeless at it. They don’t need to be admonished. They
need a crash course in how to do it better!Similarly, the Sarsanghchalak is
unaware of the service Mother Teresa provided. She would take in not just the
destitute and suffering but the dying — people who lived their lives in misery,
discarded by their families. She gave them comfort and solace so they could die
in peace.Mother Teresa’s biography records that the Missionaries of Charity
“bury the dying they have nursed according to the rites of each individual’s
religion”. One of her quotations makes the same point: “You say a prayer to
your God and I will say my prayer to my God.”You can’t put a value to such
service. Nor should you ascribe a motive to it. Beyond their gratitude these
people could not have given Mother Teresa anything. And, of course, she did it
in God’s name because only faith can evoke such service.Had she wanted, Mother
Teresa could have used their gratitude to convert the dying. But she didn’t.
Even at their most vulnerable she honoured their faith. This was her true
greatness.Frankly, there are very few people like Mother Teresa. Neither Mr
Bhagwat nor I are one of them. That’s why she got the Nobel Peace Prize and
became a Bharat Ratna. Neither he nor I will get either.Atal Bihari Vajpayee
and LK Advani recognised and praised Mother’s qualities. Mr Vajpayee said: “At
a time when humankind is being increasingly driven by selfish motives, she gave
selflessly to those whom society has forsaken and forgotten. In the age of
cynicism she was a symbol of understanding faith.” LK Advani spoke similarly:
“In death, as in life, Mother will continue to inspire millions of people to
contribute in their way to bring joy in the lives of those who are less
fortunate than them.”Unfortunately Mr Vajpayee is not in a position to speak
out but I would like to hear Mr Advani correct Mr Bhagwat. Gently perhaps but
pointedly nonetheless. I also would like to hear my Prime Minister. Not so
gently, in his case, and perhaps more pointedly.Instead, what I’ve heard is the
sound of RSS spokespersons scrambling for cover. Even though Mr Bhagwat’s words
were captured on video and cannot be denied, the fact his spokespersons claim
he didn’t say it — or mean what he said — suggests they’ve realised his
horrible mistake. If Mr Bhagwat is half the leader he thinks he is the least he
can do is apologise. It takes true character to accept you’ve made a
mistake.I’ll be honest. I don’t apologise as much as I need to. I just hope
people will forget and forgive. But then I’m not the RSS Sarsanghchalak. I
don’t pretend to be a great leader of men.The views expressed by the author are
personal

[Goanet] WILL KIRAN BEDI BE INDIA’S NEXT DEFENCE MINISTER?

2015-03-02 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi may replace Manohar Parrikar as the next
Defence Minister of India after the current budget session of Parliament.

Manohar Parrikar’s lackluster performance with his inability to communicate
effectively in Hindi and very frequent trips to Goa has apparently
attracted the wrath of BJP’s top leadership. That the controversial Manohar
Parrikar is currently being probed by the Goa Police on criminal charges of
having cheated the State exchequer has only added to his vows. The BJP is
hoping that Kiran Bedi’s vast administrative experience will help restore
the much needed stature, order and discipline in the crucial Defence
Ministry.

Manohar Parrikar is being given two options of either returning to Goa as
Chief Minister or rehabilitation by way of a posting as Governor.

Manohar Parrikar’s return to Goa may however come as a setback to those
within the BJP who expressed a sigh of relief that he was shunted to Delhi.
Like Bihar’s Jitan Ram Manjhi it may also upset Laxmikant Parsekar who is
still ecstatic over having reaped a lottery by becoming the Chief Minister
after Manohar Parrikar’s exit.

Manohar Parrikar was moved to Delhi on 9th November last year after a two
and half year tenure as Chief Minister of Goa which was marred by various
scams, rampant corruption and his U turns on all the promises made. Despite
having vowed of Zero tolerance to Corruption and Good governance, Manohar
Parrikar kept Goa without the much needed Lokayukta and State Information
Commission leaving room for corruption to further flourish and with no
transparency in governance.

Re: [Goanet] LENTEN TIATR AND RELIGIOUS PLAYS

2015-03-02 Thread John Eric Gomes
I agree with both views. Michael Vaz seems to resent his "foolishness"
being pointed out by Nazareth and he implies all others are foolish if they
do not agree with his point of view! Why no toleration for other views and
why not there be choice?
Lenten services are not attended by everyone and not all priests are
orators and maybe a Tiatr has more meaning conveyed/ influences some people
more. Children will concentrate on studies if they are so inclined and
Tiatr or attending lenten services maybe equally distracting!
