[Goanet] Maharastra to rear cattle for milk!

2015-03-09 Thread Bernado Colaco
In wake of the many decree laws coming from the Maharastra government, the
incumbents have provided a positive alternative to avoid cow slaughter and
molestation (milking). A leading governant in this state has proposed to rear
human beings for milking. Also the government is set to collect money from
tourists worldwide by naming the farms has world heritage sites. Atleast his
will take off the heat from our farms (without milk) at Vagator, Polem etc.

[Goanet] GOA RAJ BHAVAN A VERY PRICEY WHITE ELEPHANT

2015-03-09 Thread Aires Rodrigues
As expected the rubber stamp Governor of Goa Mridula Sinha has converted
the Raj Bhavan into a BJP Dharamshala for the RSS, VHP, and the Bajrang Dal
to congregate. With the lackluster and unimpressive Governor Mridula Sinha
continuing to keep our Raj Bhavan out of the purview of the Right to
Information Act the veil of secrecy persists.

The sprawling Goa Raj Bhavan over an area of 88 acres and having over 134
staff to take care of the Governor along with her recently adopted cow and
calf is an unnecessary huge burden on the State exchequer. To save these
crores of rupees from being wasted, the Goa Governor could be relocated to
a modest premises and the current magnificent Raj Bhavan could be
transformed possibly into a State Museum alongside an amusement park for
children.

On 19 November the puppet Governor Mridula Sinha amidst much fanfare
launched the ‘Swach Goa Abhiyan’. It seems to be more money down the drain
with Goa getting filthier by the day. May be Mridula Sinha should first
embark on a ‘Swach Raj Bhavan’ by bringing it with the ambit of RTI so that
there is accountability and transparency in all that transpires within that
heavily guarded fortress.

Mar 04 2015 : The Times of India (Mumbai)INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY - Support
gender equality, church tells menfolkBella JaisinghaniMumbai:Last Sunday , a
musical play at St John's Church in Thane divided the audience before bringing
them back to common ground. The main characters, a couple named Hiru and Sheena,
were engaged in a spirited debate over the need for women's liberation. He
recalled the “good old days where women cooked and cleaned and knew their
place“, wondering why they needed to vote when they had fathers and husbands to
provide for them. She, in turn, was exasperated at the servitude women have
suffered.
The show marked the launch of a month-long Women's Day initiative. Several
groups, led by the Catholic Church, have come together to celebrate a series
named `She & He' which says men's participation is essential to achieve gender
equality .
The musical was devised by Marcia D'Cunha, executive secretary of the
Archdiocesan Women's Commission. It will be staged at St Stanislaus School in
Bandra on March 8 and St Joseph's, Mira Road on March 15. “Men feel threatened
as women become empowered because they are prisoners of gender stereotype. Our
motivation is to ensure they don't hamper the process, and make them realise
that they benefit from an equal relationship,“ says organiser Astrid Lobo
Gajiwala. On March 20, Dr Sudeep Gupta, Astrid and their team at Tata Memorial
Hospital will draft a meet-up of female cancer patients and their husbands. “We
will address a session on the insecurity and loss of self-image that women
patients undergo. Some are thrown out of their homes, others are forced to use
separate utensils because families believe cancer is contagious,“ says Devieka
Bhojwani, who helms the Women's Cancer Initiative at Tata Memorial.
St Xavier's College students are producing documentaries and photo essays that
show the complementary roles of men and women. Sophia College will also
participate in the initiative.

[Goanet] Letters to the editor Hindustan Times(Mumbai) 8th March - Beef ban is a recipe for disaster

2015-03-09 Thread Robin Viegas
From: bcsabha.kal...@gmail.com
To:

8 Mar 2015Hindustan Times (Mumbai)TOPIC OF THE WEEK Beef ban is a recipe for
disasterThe state government’s ban on beef is being seen as a political move,
given that leather industries such as shoe-making continue to be encouraged and
even offered sops. What do you make of the move? This ban on beef is clearly a
political decision. Making such decisions, which divide our society further
along religious lines, will create unnecessary controversy. The government
should be careful while drafting such laws. The ban has created an unnecessary
hue and cry, when the nation is suffering from bigger issues such as crime and
safety for women.ILLUSTRATION: SHRIKRISHNA PATKARIf eating beef is a crime,
then shouldn’t wearing goods made of leather also be a crime? On the other
hand, if the ban is being implemented for humanitarian reasons, then shouldn’t
it apply to other animals such as chickens and pigs? It is wrong for the
government to cross the line into the personal lives and choices of the
people. The people are the best judges of their own dietary decisions. We live
in a democratic set-up and the government should not make these decisions for
the people.— SN Kabra
EVERYONE IS SET TO SUFFER AS A RESULT OF THIS UNFAIR LAWThe Maharashtra Animal
Preservation (Amendment) Bill received the President’s assent this week, nearly
two decades after it was first submitted. While the fact remains that the
protection of all animals is something our nation must work towards, the
practical applicability of this bill, as well as its real-life repercussions on
our society, have not been thought through. The beef ban will end up impacting
the general public, irrespective of their religion. The cattle farmers who
would earlier sell unproductive old stock at the abattoirs to buy young calves
will no longer be able to do so, which will burden them financially. The ban
may also lead to an increase in the numbers of abandoned cattle. The government
will need to create enough shelters for old and abandoned cattle, without which
we will have a messy situation of illegal slaughter and black marketing. The
beef ban is unfair on the abattoir owners and beef vendors too, as their
livelihood will be seriously impacted. For the common man, it will increase the
prices of vegetables and other non-vegetarian options like mutton and chicken,
impacting everyone. Leather goods may also see inflated prices in near future.A
law that restricts the food habits of a particular community and strata should
never have been passed.— Sumeet Nadkarni
STATE WON’T HELP FEED; WHY DOES IT INTERFERE IN DIET?When our government
doesn’t feed people for free, and is not much bothered about their health and
welfare either, it has no right to tell people what they should or should not
eat.Half of the world’s undernourished and malnourished population lives in our
country. Maharashtra has its fair share of such unfortunate people. The state
has even earned the sad notoriety of being the home of farmers who are
committing suicide because of financial problems. How is it then sensible of
the government to snatch away a source of cheap, protein-rich food from the
people?Let the poor and marginalised eat what they can get and afford without
the government creating further problems for them. This ban will even create a
joblessness problem for many people, making earning their daily bread more
problematic for them at both ends.— KP Rajan
WHY SHOULD WE ALL FOLLOW ONE RELIGION’S RULES?The ban on beef, when seen in
conjunction with the thriving leather goods industry, does seem rather
ridiculous. There are religions in our country, the followers of which have
beef as a staple food. Who are we to tell them to follow another religion’s
rules?Besides this, beef is one of the cheapest food items available to the
people. This ban is clearly politically motivated, and will create further
religious problems in our already divided society.Besides this, some people
just prefer to eat meat. Isn’t it an infringement on their personal rights to
tell them what to eat? All the pros and cons should have been weighed before
the government passed such a ban.— CK Subramaniam
THE FARMER WILL SUFFER MOST AS A RESULT OF BEEF BANI think the ban on beef is a
decision that was made without considering its wider repercussions or its
effect on individuals engaged in related occupations. The farmer, who is already
beset by multiple problems, will be the first to be effected severely by this
ban. When a bullock becomes unproductive, farmers sell them to abattoirs. It
fetches nearly half the amount needed to purchase a new one.Beef is preferred
not just for its taste but also because it’s much cheaper than mutton.
Vegetarians and egg-eaters will be affected also, as prices of these items will
increase due to increased demand. Most importantly, the basic objective of
stopping cattle slaughter to protect the animals will

Really proud of my Cavelossim villagers for coming out in a silent candlelight

The protest March was also supported by a few Assolna villagers and a few of
our Hindu brothers and sisters too.
May the Inter-religious peace and harmony we have shared for generations become
even more strong.
Thanks to the Cavelossim Villagers Forum for organizing the march. If we are

Dear Roger,

Happy that not only Cavelosim villagers but almost all Goa people are doing
that kind of candle light vigil.
In fact these guys have woken us up to remain active and united of such
incidents taking place . Started from beef BAN then FDA says that chicken
is sold in bad conditions so that may be slowly will get rid of almost all
the meat products sold in Goa. These idiots wants to finish unity of Goans
which we had in centuries among Goan Hindus and Muslims.. In fact we
already have support from majority of Goans Hindus who are against such
elements like RSS , VHP etec I do not think that Modi will survive long in
such conditions what is going on .Even Obama gave Modi a good dose. I was
thinking that BJP will do well and we will be keeping them in power. Now we
find that they go in wrong direction. Now is that they have proved us much
in advance and that is very good sign for us to plan our future elections
2017.
I am unlucky that I have no godfathers NOR RELATIVES to take me for Zilla
Panchayat elections as candidate. I see politicians taking either their
niece, daughter, nephew, siste , brother and all kind of relatives for BJP
Zila Panchayat. That is the trend which Congress also did the same and now
the BJP is copying.
A LAW MUST COME THAT NO RELATIVE OF POLITICIAN IN POWER CAN GET SEAT OR
PLACE FOR NEXT ELECTION FOR AT LEAST A MINIMUM FIVE YEARS.

*The Goan wants to celebrate those heroes who dare to stand up and voice
their opinion in an increasingly intolerant Goa where goebbelsian style of
majoritarian views is clouding other people’s opinion, but sadly The Goan
was shocked, alarmed and even pained that a son of the soil is called an
outsider while the insiders leave so much to be desired to clean up the
system or correct it. Is it a fact that honest voices of concern from Goans
living outside are being smothered, as could be gathered from the response
received from some letter writers who believe they are just ordinary Goans
going about their daily business and who just love and live Goa even though
they are not in Goa.*

*Others complained that they have been told more than once that Goans
settled or living abroad should not meddle in Goa and its people’s affairs
or life. They, for this reason, declined sharing their opinions fearing
that they might be objected and called ‘outsiders’.*

*One letter writer, on the condition of anonymity said, “I have been told
that I am not Goan enough to qualify to be a true blue Goenkar. In other
words to understand and speak about or for Goa, one must be a Goan born in
Goa and not somewhere in this wide world. Goans in Goa feel that outsiders
should not meddle with Goa or its business. Being called a non-Goan can be
a great handicap to talk and feel like a Goenkar.”*

*Another Goan voice stated, “To be honest, I have been bitten by amchem
Goans many times. I am now, not twice but thrice as shy to pit myself in
the firing line for Goa.”*

*Dr Francisco Colaco:* *A consulting physician, cardiologist and pioneer of
echocardiography in Goa, Dr Francisco Colaco (MD in Medicine), has two
specialization stints in the USA and has been practicing in Goa for over
thirty years. He is a social activist, column writer, Mando exponent,
musician, singer, composer, song writer and a man with deep faith in God*

“I have been writing letters to local dailies and weeklies for a decade or
more. If I did not do it earlier it is because my medical studies kept me
far too busy. I am fairly satisfied with the response. By far the readers
have been appreciative. But since I do not mince words I do get bouquets as
well as brickbats. My letters cover arts, music, corruption, nepotism and
infringement of human rights. But my greatest preoccupation has always been
communal harmony. I had predicted long ago that, if we do not pull our
socks, Goans would be totally polarized on communal lines and the
minorities would have to fend for their lives.

We even formed a socio-political group of Hindus, Catholics and Muslims
–‘Lokshakti’ to fight mainly against the communal virus. We had spotted the
number one enemy of Goa, who would hand over our beautiful land on a silver
platter to the rabid RSS. But there were few takers, a lot of critics and
‘xannes’, who dismissed us like a ‘dirty rag’ with the convenient excuse
that they were ‘apolitical’ and what not!

It was at this time that we went ahead with great courage despite threats
to life and limb and I wrote the greatest number of letters and columns
against communalism and because I was so open I was being harassed and
followed like a shadow by RSS activists who wrote back with stern warnings
and hits below the belt.

To sum up, you will surmise that my letters have not made difference as far
as my objectives were concerned. Therefore, I feel most of the times
dismayed and frustrated.

But, despite all, despite warnings and threats, I propose to continue to
write and express myself without hesitating to call a spade a spade until
my last breath.

I remember the quote of Julien Smith, “You will never be entirely
comfortable. This is the truth behind the champion – he is always fighting
something. To do otherwise is to settle.”

Public Administration, Aires Rodrigues pursued law studies to enter the
legal profession, which was always his dream and endeavour right from his
school days. He was privileged to be associated with various social and
public movements beginning with the 1979 student agitation to demand 50 %
bus-ticket concession for students. Over the years he has taken up various
issues of public interest to the Bombay High Court at Goa as well as to the
Supreme Court.*

“I started writing while in school over four decades ago. It has always
been my passion. While I am aware that some people may not like what I
write, I firmly believe in speaking out one’s mind. Writing againstinjustice
is no easy task. But nobody has been able to intimidate me. I have never

Re: [Goanet] CAG TO CRACK WHIP ON GOA GOVERNMNET FOR SHIELDING AG ON STEEP FEES

Is "to crack whip" some sick euphemism? Or will the steep fees be
retrieved? Or will be Goans simply have to live the idea and notions
attached to "whopping."?
Some whoop ass or whooping cough this! Perish these thoughts.

[Goanet] Nirbhaya film, welcomed everywhere, except India

2015-03-09 Thread Gabe Menezes
Oops, some of the comments hurt!

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Nirbhaya-film-welcomed-everywhere-except-India/articleshow/46501605.cms

*There's a joke doing the rounds in the internet since last week.
Supposedly, the Indian government has imposed six different bans in the
country, the Nirbhaya Documentary by Leslee Udwin -- India's Daughter --
being the most baffling one. Since we are law-abiding citizens, (or like to
think of ourselves as such), we decided not to watch the documentary, which
was widely available on the internet, all through last week. Not. But as
human beings, we are curious too. So, we found a way around our legal
system, as criminals and defence lawyers have taught us to do since times
immemorial. We asked Indians, residing outside India, who could have
watched the documentary without defying the ban, to review the documentary
and share their opinions it. Here's what we got.*

*Tarun Kurakula, Software Developer, Chicago*

The documentary doesn't just depict the extreme emotions of the Indian
people about the case but also points out the loopholes we have in the
system. Living oustide India and watching the video, India still appears to
be a backward country. I don't think there's any other country with as much
population, power, riches, talent, resources and still so backward in its
mindset. In the context of the incident, for a country to claim being
'developed', the change has to start from the lowest strata of the society.
People need to abide by law and fear loss of freedom. Criminals are
everywhere. Only when the law becomes stricter and punishes the
perpetrators with inexcusable sentences, common people will realise that
you cannot get away after committing a crime. This just doesn't include
rape and murders but many other 'petty' crimes which give the criminals a
hope that they can commit them and get away with it. This is the only way
Jyoti can probably be served with the 'said' justice.

*Pradeep Kumar Kodam, Software Engineer, Buffalo, New York*

I am lucky enough to watch a controversial Documentary film from a foreign
media which was banned by the Indian government. Watching the documentary,
I felt the pain of the rape victim's family, agony of the rapists'
families, the chauvinism of so-called educated Indian lawyers, psychopathic
nature of the rapist who has no remorse and the hapless Indian society
which failed a naked woman on the road who was seeking help for 30 minutes.
Should the documentary be banned by Indian Government? No Absolutely not. I
think that this documentary should be shown in Indian national television
to reach wider audience. Everyone should know the consequences of
committing a heinous crime like this. I always thought lack of education,
over-populationa and unemployment leads to these kinds of brutal crimes in
India. But after hearing the argument of educated defense lawyers, I feel
sad to realize that even in the most modern and educated minds, there's no
respect for women. Our government has successfully banned the documentary
but they have failed to ensure freedom and respect for its daughters. Our
government was successful in getting the rapists behind bars but they
failed to convince women that this won't happen again. Our government has
been successful in showing off India's tolerant image in front of other
countries but Indian people are losing their faith in the government.

*Priyanka Basu, Academician, London, UK*

"Having watched "India's Daughter", abnegating the ban on the documentary
by the Indian government, I am compelled to reflect upon a number of issues
that have also come up in mostly all the reactions towards the subject
portrayed. First of all, the ban only makes me ask one question to the
authorities: why and how do they allow access to a filmmaker into the inner
precincts of the prison, so that a rapist can lay bare his nonchalant
reminiscences of a heinous act, thus defending himself? And, when such kind
of access is allowed to the film-maker, it is baffling as to why the film
is then made inaccessible to the public in India? Secondly, the documentary
is overtly sensationalizing and the efforts at juxtaposing the remorse of
the victim's parents with the remorseless banality of the rapists and the
defence lawyers, only re-asserts the 'vulnerability' of women within
India's patriarchy. Also, it is probably a lot easier to talk about an
incident and magnify its scale further when the victim herself is no more
available to assert (if at all) her agency. What about documenting women
who are survivors of rape, includ

[Goanet] Vocalist, Victor Fields shares new single “Let Me Be Good To You” from “The Lou Rawls Project”.

2015-03-09 Thread THE JAZZ NETWORK WORLDWIDE "A GREAT PLACE TO HANG"

Featured this week on The Jazz Network Worldwide: Vocalist, Victor Fields with
a sneak peek of his current single “Let Me Be Good To You” from his upcoming CD
“The Lou Rawls Project”.

Victor Fields is a silky soul jazz singer with a rich gauzy tenor known for
seamlessly integrating the blues, jazz, R&B and Pop and his new single is no
exception.

The Jazz Network Worldwide has been an avid supporter of Fields' projects
throughout the years and is excited about sharing with its community and beyond
his new single “Let Me Be Good To You”.  Giving homage to a music legend has
shown to be a very successful quest for Victor, for it is one that is close to
his heart.

(http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/victorfields1)"My intent is to capture the essence of
Lou Rawls not copy him. There’s only one Lou Rawls.  I wanted it to feel like
each song was being recorded for the very first time for today’s audience".
One night in Oakland, CA he called Victor “the man with the golden voice". As
Fields recounts, "Our encounter was brief, but his presence that night and
those words he uttered inspired me to change my life, to fulfill a dream”.

On February 14, 2015 Fields gave a concert at the Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport,
CT to preview and celebrate the expected release in late March of his fifth
studio CD “The Lou Rawls Project".  Joining him on stage was his Special Guest
and Musical Director Gail Jhonson backed by Connecticut’s own Steve Clarke
(bass), Asher Delerme (percussion), Dave Davis (sax), Pat Williams (guitar).
Victor has also shared the stage with Isaac Hayes, Cameo, Dee Dee Bridgewater,
James Ingram, Patti Austin, Regina Belle, Atlantic Starr, Maysa and Marion
Meadows.

On the heels of a successful CD launch on the east coast, it was only apropos
for Fields to seek to tour the eastern seaboard targeting such cities as New
Haven and Hartford, CT, Springfield and Worcester, MA, as well as Fayetteville,
NC, Columbia and Charleston, SC and New York.

Mr. Fields’ has recorded and released four studio CDs on his label, Regina
Records, that feature smooth jazz luminaries Chris Botti, Gerald Albright,
Kashif, Chris Camozzi, Richard Elliot, Rick Braun, Nelson Braxton, and Jeff
Lorber. His CD "52nd Street" reached #12 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz
Chart and he continues to receive international radio airplay within the
following three formats: Urban Adult Contemporary, Smooth Jazz and Straight
Ahead Jazz. In addition, Victor is the owner and founder of Regina Records
Radio which has been on the airwaves for four years now.

"Victor's melodic vocal interpretations of Lou's songs are original, unique and
soul stirring. He is a special artist with a voice so pure and real.  His depth
is an undiscovered greatness, you owe it to yourself to listen to what I
consider one of the great smooth soul singers of all time. ~ Chris Camozzi,
Producer and Featured Artist, "The Lou Rawls Project".

International and domestic stages and concerts are the goal with this new
project and worldwide radio airplay has already begun with stations contacting
Regina Records for the new single “Let Me Be Good To You”.  The beat goes on
with interviews from stations like Magic 107.3, Charleston, SC, WPKN, WHUH, and
WYBC, in Bridgeport, Hartford and New Haven, CT respectively.

"His charismatic musical spirit offers such a smooth, soulful delivery in his
interpretation of Lou Rawl’s tune “Let Me Be Good To You”. He shows how one can
be influenced by a musical icon yet embellishes its thread with his own
signature, offering a masterful fresh contemporary arrangement.  Victor
expresses his gift with invested love and conviction in every note sharing the
enduring magic of a timeless song with soulful precision and care” says Jaijai
Jackson, creator of The Jazz Network Worldwide.

I can tell you hand-on-heart that we have not paid one rupee to anyone we

The ban is utterly beyond my comprehension because what this film says is
like a mirror held up to what Prime Minister Modi has said in all his
statements about gender equality since he came to power. He has spoken
about resetting the moral compass in India, about supporting women attain
equality, and finding ways to educate women, has total synergy with the
film. We are saying the same thing.

He must have these moral values, otherwise he would not be saying these
things. How does that square with India bowing out of showing the film as
it is?

All I wanted was to say to the world is that India led by example, now
follow India's lead. This was the point of my film and campaign.

*You had appealed directly to Mr. Modi to repeal the ban. Did you hear from
him?*

We haven't heard from Mr. Modi yet. The government is inviting the world to
point fingers at India, and call it undemocratic and unconstitutional. Why
are they doing this? Why are they intent on committing international
suicide? All I want to say to the world through my film and campaign is
this: India led by example, now follow India's lead.

This film can still be shown if they change their mind by tomorrow night
[International Women's Day]. India will then be holding its head high to
move forward with an agenda to put women in the spotlight of getting
equality - which is unfinished business the world over.

If they do not lift this ban, it will be said that on Women's International
Day, there were to be seven countries holding hands for global equality,
and India has bowed out.

The India's Daughter campaign, which the film was designed to unleash
worldwide, will be launched globally on March 9. Every country in the world
will take this film forward with the message "Our women are in trouble in
every country."

*Why focus on India when gender discrimination and rape is a global issue?*

It was not the horrific rape that made me come to India. The extraordinary,
courageous and unprecedented protests that followed made me think: "My God,
they are fighting for my rights in India." I was so grateful. I have myself
been raped. It is not surprising -- one in five women globally have been
raped. So I am one of the 20 per cent.

The supreme irony is that my film has got statistics at the end of it of
offences against women in every country in the world. By their ban, the
government forced the BBC version, and not the India version, to be leaked
onto YouTube. If you ban something, the first thing you do is to make every
person in the world see a pirated version. And that is what has happened.
The tragedy for me is that the pirated copy that went up on YouTube does
not have the global statistics, and for a reason that is mundane and
ridiculous. The BBC Storyville has a house style that doesn't allow them to
put statistics on a film. It upsets and angers me that people in India
would have seen the film without those statistics.

There are three version of the film. In the BBC version, the credits are
shorter and there are no statistics. The international version is the full
version with all the credits and the statistics. It also names the rape
victim, as her name is all over the international media, and even in
Wikipedia. The third is the Indian version in which the victim has not been
names. That is the law in India, which we all respect. The parents wanted
her name out of the Indian version but agreed that it be carried in the
international version.

So now the YouTube version has got so many heads that I am trying every day
to cut them down with a sword. My team has pulled down the online version
thousands of times because I want to obey that ban, as it is India's law.
But unfortunately it has now got into Torrent.

*How do you respond to the allegation that you did not follow due legal
processes?*

I am a producer of 20 years standing who does her due diligence. I am not a
fly-by-night operator.

I followed the legal due process in every respect. I complied with the
permissions: they are cast iron, which is why I have actually released the
copies of the permissions so people can have a look and see what it says.
It does not give editorial control to the Ministry of Home Affairs or to
the prison. It allows them only to reflect and approve of potential
breeches of prison security. A five-person committee from Tihar was
constituted to look at the raw, unedited footage we shot in Tihar, every

[Goanet] GOA WAS PROMISED ‘ACCHE DIN’ BUT HAS REAPED ‘KACCHE DIN’

2015-03-09 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Today the BJP Government in Goa completes three years. It has been 36 long
months of confusion, contradictions, and controversies. Despite having in
March 2012 been given a clear mandate by the people of Goa, the BJP has
miserably failed to deliver on the Parivartan that was promised by way of
Good governance and Zero tolerance to corruption. It has only been a string
of U turns on all promise made.

The initial euphoria after this government took over soon subsided with the
common man on the street let down and belatedly realizing that by voting
the BJP they landed from the frying pan into the fire.

Goa has been kept without the much needed Lokayukta and State Information
Commission leaving room for corruption to further flourish and with no
transparency in governance. There is also no sign of the Regional Plan
while the BJP’s selected coterie of builders are having a field day. The
Mining issue has been mishandled.

The only major achievement of this government is of having been able to
high-handedly stifle almost the entire voice of the Opposition. The
Government has played to the gallery on the issue of Special status for Goa
but has done nothing to control the alarming and unacceptable levels of
migration into Goa. The escalating levels of crime is a matter of grave
concern. The garbage crisis is heading to a point of disaster.

Under the BJP the rampant corruption continues unabated. Only the agents,
brokers and beneficiaries have changed with scams continuing galore.
Ministers and ruling MLAs have been on unnecessary foreign jaunts burdening
the already depleted State coffers. Inspite of the financial crisis
confronting this government it has been hiring thousands of more government
servants to accommodate the BJP party cadres.

After having reneged on its solemn promise to throw the Casinos out of the
River Mandovi, to this Government’s credit Goa today has become the
nation’s hub for gambling, prostitution and the narcotics trade.

The Aam Aadmi in Goa were promised ‘Acche Din’ but have had to bear the
brunt of ‘Kacche Din’ under the ego puffed Manohar Parrikar and now
political dwarf Laxmikant Parsekar. With two more years yet to go, the
worse is yet to come.
