[Goanet] CM LAXMIKANT PARSEKAR MUST BEAR THE BRUNT ON MICKKY’S ABSCONDING
With the Goa Police over the last one month being unable to locate the absconding former Minister Mickky Pacheco, the onus is now on Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar as Home Minister to himself lead the search to track his absconding mouse or else to find another little hole to conceal himself. After the 30th March Supreme Court verdict upholding Mickky Pacheco’s six month jail sentence, Laxmikant Parsekar had publicly vowed that the law will take its own course. But his double talk stands exposed with everybody now well aware that Mickky Pacheco is on the run with the Government giving him all possible haven to evade that warrant of arrest. We are witnessing a very sad and sordid chapter in Goa’s history where a law maker is making a mockery of the Justice delivery system. And that too with the tacit support of the Government. Mr. Chief Minister, you are ebbing Goa to a very new low. You had not long ago blurted that ‘Disabled people are God’s mistake”. Who should we now blame for your government disabling the rule of law in allowing your MLA Mickky Pacheco to abscond? The buck now stops at your door, Mr. CM. [Goanet] 'Goans who registered birth in Portugal not Portuguese'
Panaji: Goans born before Goa was liberated on December 19, 1961, and who registered their births in Portugal after 1961, will not be considered Portuguese nationals. Goans who hold Portuguese passports will not be considered Indian citizens. These are recommendations made to the ministry of home affairs by its three-member, high-level committee appointed to deliberate on Goa's dual citizenship issue, and headed by additional secretary (home) B K Prasad. Speaking to STOI, U D Kamat, director, NRI commission of Goa--which is coordinating with the committee and MHA on the issue--said if these recommendations are accepted, MHA will have to amend the Indian Citizenship Act or issue a clarification notification so that those Goans who have registered their births in Lisbon, Portugal, do not lose their Indian citizenship. The recommendations came about after the committee held a series of meetings in March this year with lawyers in Goa well-versed with Portuguese law, defence minister Manohar Parrikar, NRI commissioner Wilfred Mesquita and South Goa MP Narendra Savoikar. One of the suggestions received during the meetings was that Goans who have registered their births in Portugal should be allowed to issue a declaration stating that they are Indian citizens and that they registered their births in Portugal for the better future of their children. The dual citizenship issue has seen several FIRs filed against persons, including politicians, police personnel, etc. Children of those born before Goa's liberation and with their births registered in Portugal are also eligible to register their births in Portugal and to obtain citizenship or a 'bilhete de identidade' considered as good as citizenship. Many Goans use the bilhete to travel across Europe as it makes the Schengen visa redundant. Many have also sought employment in Europe on the basis of the bilhete. Government statistics show around 40,000 Goans have registered their births in Portugal, but, do not have a Portuguese passport or a 'bilhete de identidade'. *http://tinyurl.com/qf4mgl6 http://tinyurl.com/qf4mgl6* -- DEV BOREM KORUM Gabe Menezes.

[Goanet] Wendell's remarks - howler about Rahul Gandhi eating beef.
This reminded me about an incident nearly 60 years ago when I was in college in Belgaum. A group of us were being taken on a hike of about 40 km and were told to pack our lunch.I had no idea of our destination. In our group of about 30 I was the only Christian while the rest were Hindus. As we neared the destination which turned out to be a templecarved out of the steep hillside, one of my classmates asked me what I had brought for lunch.I told him that my Mom had prepared beef patties for me.He pulled me aside and started berating me for bringing beef to a holy Hindu shrine. I wasmortified. Had I been told that we were going to a Hindu shrine I would definitely not have brought beef. I was shaken up and asked my friend what I should do. He told me that he would not tell anyone. However, I should take a path through the forest and discard the beef patties. Then before entering the temple premises I would have to have aritual bath to purify myself. Needless to say I was trembling. So I took a side path to discardthe beef patties, when I heard footsteps behind me. It was my friend. He had caught up with me before I had time to discard the beef patties. With a broad smile on his face he saidGive me some. We both consumed all the patties and went into the shrine, where we were served a delicious vegetarian meal on plates made of leaves stitched together and set on the floor before us. Neither my friend nor I took a ritual bath that he told me I had to take. The memory of this hypocrisy has stayed vividly in my mind. And best of all there was no earthquake ! There have been many other incidents where I have seen folks eat beef with great relish.I have since, by choice become a vegetarian. But when the radicals impose their so calledmorality on others, I chuckle at the memory of this incident from my younger days.
Re: [Goanet] 'Goans who registered birth in Portugal not Portuguese'
Only Politicians can come up with such comical drivel. 1: Registration of Parent's birth in Portugal is being done for the Future Good of the Registrant's children..ie Portuguese Nationality 2: But Registration is NOT equal to Nationality.Passport is ! 3: Andit is Parent's Nationality which is transmittable to the child. 4: So, HOW do the Children benefit by Registration? 5: Probable Answer / Ploy: O .we will Take/Make Passport at that time ! 6: FOR NOW, We are samke Patriotic Indians. Brilliant, Is it Not? jc On May 3, 2015, at 4:06 AM, Gabe Menezes gabe.mene...@gmail.com wrote: Panaji: Goans born before Goa was liberated on December 19, 1961, and who registered their births in Portugal after 1961, will not be considered Portuguese nationals.
