My cousin Loris De Sa passed away on July 2, 2015 from lung cancer. The 
hospital, CITY OF HOPE,  discharged him nearly a week before and asked him to 
go be with the family.  His wife is Roopa  and he has two kids one, Kaitlyn  
almost seven and the other Kevin not yet three. I have opened an account for 
his wife for funeral expenses at East West Bank, the account is in my name 
Anthony Azavedo and the routing number is 322070381 and the account number is 
2061009243 . The wife Roopa is going to have a long road to haul without him. 
Any help that the Goans can give will be appreciated.

Goa’s Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar should immediately resign for
high-handedly and malafiedly lying on oath about his educational
qualifications.



According to the information obtained under the Right to Information Act,
Dilip Parulekar in his affidavit filed at the 2007 Assembly elections had
claimed that he had passed B. Com from Goa University in 1988. But in the
Affidavit filed at the 2012 Assembly election, Dilip Parulekar however
stated that he had only passed his High Secondary School Certificate (X11)
from Goa Board in 1985.



Dilip Parulekar has lied on oath and should now confess which of the
affidavit is false or if both are.



In the information obtained under the Right to Information Act from Assagao
based Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College it has been revealed that Dilip
Parulekar had enrolled himself in that College for First Year B.Com during
the academic year 1985-86. The College has further informed that Dilip
Parulekar was declared failed for the First Year B. Com in the academic
year 1985-86 and also declared failed once again for First Year B. Com in
the academic year 1986-87 while he was not a student of the college in the
year 1987-88.



Dilip Parulekar is allegedly one of most corrupt Ministers in the current
BJP led government in Goa being involved in various scams including the
Serula Communidade land grab case. Amongst the current Ministers he is
undoubtedly the front runner in the race for a berth at the newly
constructed Colvale Central Jail. We were promised Zero tolerance to
Corruption but in Goa it is Acche din for the Corrupt.

St Xavier's College is one 
of 19 institutions in the country to get heritage status from the 
University Grants Commission (UGC).Under the UGC's special heritage 
status scheme, the college will get nearly Rs 1.7 crore for the upkeep 
of buildings and for offering certificate and diploma courses on 
restoring heritage structures in India.   Among the 19 colleges (out 
of a pool of nearly 60 applicants) that received the UGC grant, three 
colleges--St Xavier's, Mumbai; Fergusson College, Pune; and Hislop 
College, Nagpur--are from the state.


   Out of St Xavier's Rs 1.67
 crore allocation, Rs 1.53 crore is for conservation, and Rs 14 lakh for
 extension works and diploma and certificate courses. “We need to fix 
leakages and cracks on walls at several places in the building. Our 
library too needs to be restored,“ said principal Agnelo Menezes.



   The college has already 
launched a pilot project by asking its second year BA (ancient Indian 
culture) students to learn restoration techniques and skills from the 
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Kalaghoda. “These 
students are expected to work with the history department and the Heras 
Institute on the campus to help in the restoration of some of the 
institute's artefacts. We also want to digitize several old manuscripts 
in our library   . The 
students will be marked for this,“ said Menezes.


   He said 
applying for heritage status before the UGC was a year-long process; the
 college made a good presentation before UGC officials.“The idea is to 
conserve heritage for future generations.“


Vice-chairman of 
UGC H Devaraj said this is the first time the UGC has disbursed funds 
under the heritage scheme. “Every college got a different amount, 
depending on the proposal they made.“

Dear Aires,

You said that only Court can allow Pacheco to attend the assembly sessions
which I feel  is incorrect. NO one is empowered to allow a convict
especially when the victim is  facing a jail sentence. If it is allowed
than Goa CM is giving a precedent to all the convicts to attend the
assembly sessions in India. Once it is allowed there will be many questions
from the public and authorities to tell that this man needs to have the
dress code of jail uniform, then he will be exposed to Press to give his
views from assembly or make up some damaging stories on
various authorities etec while he is undergoing a sentence etc. In fact
when a person is in jail he has to stay inside the jail but can go only to
court if he is required by the Court. Otherwise what is the purpose of
sending a person in jail if he or she can come out from jail? . He becomes
exposed to the public to talk and converse as an ordinary free citizen. The
President of India can only allow to clear this hurdle or Parliament needs
to amend this law.
I do not agree with Aires that Court is empowered to give their consent and
no CM has  powers at all in this case. Then CM may allow each and every
person from jail of his choice to come out from jail? This is a JOKE.

The Roman Catholic Church in India is neither Roman nor Catholic. It is
Indian.


Can the Indian Roman Catholic Church rise above the historical, social and
economic chains of the Indian caste system to establish a truly egalitarian
role of the Church in India today?


On July 5, 2015 UCA NEWS - subtitled - Asia's Most Trusted Independent
Catholic News Source - a report appeared which said there are separate
seating arrangements in church for Dalits and others. Is this true?


Caste is not a part of Christianity so what is the explanation for this
kind of behavior towards the low caste people in the Indian Roman Catholic
Church?


While there are a total of nine bishops from two hundred in India who are
Dalits, and I was impressed with the statistics until I discovered Dalit
Christians account for 70% of the total Roman Catholic Church in India;
their representation however among the Indian Roman Church leadership is
only 4-5 percent.


It is believed the Dalit Christian Liberation Movement has submitted a
complaint at the UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan in Delhi.


Why does the Indian Roman Catholic Church discriminate against Dalits or
so-called untouchables? Do they have to be reminded of Jesus Christ's words
: And again I say unto you, it is easier for a camel to pass through the
eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.


Has the leadership rejected Jesus Christ's teaching? While the present Pope
speaks of the importance of being a poor Church, does the incredibly
wealthy Roman Çatholic Church around the world and in India have a
different idea? Is Jesus Christ relevant today? Is the Roman Catholic
Church the Antichrist? Is Jesus Christ nothing more than a mascot?


The news of separate cemeteries for Christian Dalits is shocking and
obviously there is a crisis in the leadership of the Roman Catholic Church
in India.


The bishops of the Church need to speak sincerely and clearly on the issue
of separate cemeteries and separate seating arrangements for Dalits. If it
is not true, say so.


And, if it is true, say so, too.

Good to hear formerly much more visible Tony, a quintessential Goencar, in an 
FN interview on goanet radio.

While some Tony is better than no Tony, FN could have done him more justice 
with a better topic. 

"Pitfalls of computing"? Are there any? No more than "Walking as an exercise". 
Poor Tony in the hotseat, making no bones about exiting the interview speedily. 
To one who admittedly "dabbles" in computer languages, FN shone the wrong light 
on him. Must have been a slow day in Saligao or Moira.

On the other hand, if the interview was anything about the Goa school system, 
Tony as an ex-Principal and much experienced administrator, would have aced  
appropriate questions, in scintillating style.

If Tony de Sa's interview was the Calgary Stampede, FN would have made the 
bucking brahma bull pull the chuckwagon instead of throwing off the rider.

During the 2012 Assembly elections Manohar Parrikar had promised that only
Professionals and no Politician would head Corporations and other
government bodies. But dismayingly it has been political cronies including
some defeated BJP candidates rehabilitated all along.

One of the only exception in the last three and half years may be the much
deserved appointment last month of renowned poet Madhav Kamat as the
President of the Goa Konkani Academy. A very dignified and qualified person
who has always steered clear of the political rot.

Government positions are to serve society and not to feast on making the
best of the perks at tax payer’s expense. An example that all could emulate
is that of Vasco businessman Paresh Joshi who as the Vice Chairman of the
Kala Academy never ever used the official vehicle.

Folks,
It looks like the Greek banks are going to follow in the footsteps set by their 
Cypriot cousins.

At present, banks in Greece allow a depositor to withdraw 60 Euro's a day. When 
these banks run out of paper money, they will issue shares in the bank (that is 
failing) in exchange for the deposits kept at the same bank. 

This is a win/win situation. The depositors who would have received nothing if 
the bank failed, now become the owners of the bank. If you have supplied Greek 
firms with anything, they might wind up paying you with shares in that company. 
But Greece is the side show. The monster, taking a small peek over the horizon 
this morning, is China.

PANAJI: Canonization of St Joseph Vaz also threw the spotlight on another
illustrious Goan priest and his colleague, Fr Jacome Gonsalves, but it
inspired the Goa Church enough to consider petitioning Vatican to begin the
process of his cause for sainthood.

Pope Francis conferred sainthood on St Vaz, popularly known as apostle of
Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), in Colombo on January 14, 2015. This ended a long
wait for the islanders grateful for his work in reviving their church and
Goans eagerly anticipating the historic moment for 304 years.

The 18th century saint is known for his exemplary work as a missionary in
laying the foundation for a strong church on the island. Gonsalves also
stands out as a great missionary, architect and builder of the faith,
second only to Vaz, church sources said.

Fr Eremita Rebello, former vice-postular for the cause of canonization of
Blessed Joseph Vaz, is studying the matter to consider the possibility of
pursuing sainthood for him.

"I am trying to study the subject and gather information about the books
written by Gonsalves as well as other literature on his life," Rebello said.

Gonsalves was a multifaceted personality, a linguist, poet and writer.
After St Vaz began his work on the island amid severe persecution from the
Dutch, suitable literature was needed for the Christian congregation.

Vaz chose him for the huge task of composing the literature and the priest
from Divar proved equal to the task. The large body of literature he
produced earned him the sobriquet 'Father of Sinhala Christian literature'.
His copious work, comprising 42-odd religious texts written for the first
time in Tamil and Sinhalese, as also a catechism, helped strengthen the
faith on the island. He died in Bolawatte on July 17, 1742.

Under normal circumstances, the canonization process for any holy person
can be started in the locality of his death. "I will write to the parish
priest of Bolawatte, where he was buried and his tomb is also located, and
also Bishop of Chilaw diocese under which the above parish falls to start
the process for his canonization," Rebello, rector of sanctuary of St
Joseph Vaz, said.

Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao, many nuns, priests and around 2,000 devotees
from Goa attended the historic canonization in Colombo. They also visited
other places on the island. "The visit in January gave us an opportunity to
learn about Gonsalves' missionary work," Fermino Fernandes, a devotee of St
Vaz, said.

The process can also be initiated elsewhere only in certain circumstances
with special permission from congregation for saints at Vatican. Joseph
Naik Vaz Institute (JNVI) in California has petitioned the Vatican to
facilitate the beatification and subsequent canonication of Gonsalves and
other companions of St Vaz.

Gonsalves was born on June 8, 1676, to Thomas Gonsalves and Mariana de
Abreu at Chorao and joined Congregation of the Oratorians as a novitiate at
Cruz dos Milagres, Old Goa, on November 2, 1700. He later joined St Vaz
with his other companions and helped build a strong church in Sri Lanka.

Famous church historian S G Perera stated in his book on Gonsalves that two
priests stand out pre-eminent in the history of the Catholic faith in Sri
Lanka, St Vaz and Fr Gonsalves. "Father Vaz planned and Father Gonsalves
watered the vineyard of Ceylon and God gave it increase. It is these two
priests more than to any other before or since, that the modern church in
Ceylon owes its existence, its numbers, its traditions and its literature,"
he stated.
