Re: [Goanet] Fw:JUSTICE T.S. THAKUR MAY BE THE CURE FOR INDIA’S AILING JUDICIARY By Aires Rodrigues

2015-09-29 Thread Sam Furtado
Mr. Joseph Rebello Greetings to You,

Some of the excerpts of Mr. Aires Rodrigues’s subject, which I highlight
here; the caption on* “JUSTICE T.S. THAKUR MAY BE THE CURE FOR INDIA’S
AILING JUDICIARY” and statements* *“With his practical rather than a
theoretical approach, Justice T.S Thakur may be the much needed hope to
lead India’s limping Judiciary to the path to recovery”* *and the
paradigm* *‘For
the Judiciary to be truly independent there has to be no socializing and
cozying up by politicians and advocates with Judges. If Judiciary** is
reduced to a mouth piece and agents of the government, Courts will end up
as dens of chicanery and jugglery’. **Well these assertions by Mr.
Rodrigues could run true as he knows better on the subject ‘Law and
Judiciary’ and therefore I would not like to comment further but align
with him.*

But by the pertinacious political rulers of our country and with the
established system, as Mr. Rodrigues put across, I would like to transpose
here in similar perceptiveness; *the Agents of Government end up as dens of
sham or trickery, especially by the clever manipulation of language, it
would be hard to gulp down unless a ‘Miracle occurs thru the Supernatural
Being’ or should we say God Save the King.*

*Only time will tell but as far as present state of affairs, I see no light
at the end of the tunnel.*

As many of them may not believe in God as they may not know the true
significance of the word but in other way we call it a 'Supernatural Being'
since at least some part of our lives we have experienced something which
could take place only with the help of supernatural being even though the
word may have been created to give a name, just as we give human beings
some names and animals some names and so on...but need no necessarily be in
person to know him or to name him..but we are thought to
believe...as you know SEE IS BELIEVING so it is upto individual to believe

[Goanet] GOA’S REMAINS NEED TO BE SALVAGED

2015-09-29 Thread Aires Rodrigues
We need to laud and salute various persons and NGO’s more particularly the
Goa Foundation led by Claude and Norma Alvares for toiling tirelessly over
the years in dealing and highlighting issues concerning Goa’s environment
and ecology including that illegal mining that ravaged Goa. Their efforts
are finally bearing fruit. A ray of hope for the coming generations who
will now at least be able to see something that remains of Goa. Our Goa,
which was once the paradise of the East, now lies at crossroads for
posterity.

Yesterday I received a call from Claude Alvares requesting me to assist
them by appearing in the Tiracol matter before the High Court. It is just a
coincidence that a day earlier the Senior most Supreme Court Judge
T.S.Thakur speaking at Panaji exhorted lawyers to work free for social
causes. Justice Thakur felt that for doing so the advocates would be paid
by prayers which would be much more valuable than the money that they
otherwise earn.

Claude and Norma could be assured of my assistance at all times.

We owe it to Goa to strengthen the hands of persons like Claude, Norma and
others who are attempting to save what remains of Goa from the ruthless
land sharks and the corrupt politicians.

Re: [Goanet] Baina - Today's Pics and Video

2015-09-29 Thread Sam Furtado
Dear Joe Goa,

Thanks a lot for your beautiful Video images and the videography of Baina
Beach Slums been demolished.. These ghetto images reminds me of the time
gone by where we once lived in Vasco at Butia Batt and my cousins at Mangor
Hill in the early 60's where our primary education at St. Xavier School in
Portuguese began and my grandmother been buried at St. Andrew's Church
cementary, but now the drastic changes of the topography in the area by the
so called Land Sharks has corrupted everything including migration of
outsiders forever squatting around the Baina Beaches is an eye sore and so
on..

I remember as a young boy of eight years my younger brother and i used to
learn riding bicycle and practically having a field day riding all over
into towns and villages surrounding all of Vasco including Mangor Hill a
beautiful sight to behold at that time where I even found a Gun at the
military barracks that was left by Portuguese soldiers fleeing Goa at the
time of liberation and also found a Big Can of Mackerel which I brought
home opened it and all of us at home had a relishing meal including my
mother, her brothers, sisters and my two brothers enjoyed to our hearts
content.

Riding bicycle we used to travel to Vasco Municipal Corporation where our
maternal uncle worked and that was the first time we saw manual type-writer
Remington been used by my uncle for his official work, From VMC we used to
ride to our cousin office where he worked at the Burma Shell Oil Refinery
as a director. But now that is a history.

Vasco today, has immensely changed, devoid of the beautiful fringed lined
palm trees and the long winding roads of old Portuguese town from Mangor
hill right up to the Baina Beach. The beautiful small and big houses that
people once lived are all gone but for few. We even used to go to
Chowgules Bungalow, especially during Diwali and Ganesh Chaturti and take
prasad that was offered here at that time, whose mother and father kept
buffaloes and from where literally their business empire began from rags to
riches story..

We even watched Vasco Football Team playing some local team at the Vasco
Sports Ground next to locomotive engines that were kept in the Yard of
Chowgules, I even met Bernard Pereira the Captain of Vasco football team
and even had a chat with him including Andrew one of their football
players, while they were travelling to Bombay from Goa where they had a
match to be played with Mafatlal Mills. Bernard later joined Orkay football
team in Bombay as captain.

Well all these memories past and present are all reminiscent to the bygone
era of yester years the then beautiful land called Goa much in contrast to
the present one the past world withered and vanished into the BlueWELL
I STILL CARRY THESE VIVID IMAGES IN MY CEREBRAL CAMERA..

LONG LIVE GOA..

*AIFF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETS AT FOOTBALL HOUSE*

*AIFF Media Team*

*NEW DELHI:* The President of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Mr.
Praful Patel Chaired AIFF’s Executive Committee Meeting at AIFF
Headquarters, Football House in Dwarka, New Delhi on Monday (September 28,
2015).

Besides, AIFF General Secretary Mr. Kushal Das, Vice Presidents Mr. Subrata
Dutta, Mr. Larsing Ming, Mr. KMI Mather and Mr. Subhash Chopra; Treasurer
ZA Thakur, and all other Members, except Mr. Shrinivas Dempo (Vice
President), Mr. Sunil Bharadwaj, Mr. Jesiah Villavarayar and CDR Com.
Pushpendra Kumar Garg, attended the Meeting.

Indian National Team Coach Mr. Stephen Constantine and Technical Director
Mr. Scott O’Donnell were also present as were Mr. Javier Ceppi, Tournament
Director, 2017 U-17 World Cup and Mr. Joy Bhattacharyja, Project Director,
2017 U-17 World Cup.

Furthermore, representatives from FSDL also attended the Meeting.

The Committee congratulated the U-16 boys (National Team) for gaining an
automatic qualification into the AFC U-16 Finals scheduled to be held in
Goa next year. The colts being coached by Nicolai Adam despite being
guaranteed of a spot in the Finals (next year) by virtue of being the
hosts, finished as one of the second best Teams to qualify on ‘merit.’

O’Donell, however, cautioned all to stay grounded and not get carried away
by the encouraging results as sterner tests “lie ahead.” The roadmap for
the second phase of scouting for the FIFA 2017 U-17 World Cup was explained
in a detailed presentation.

Meanwhile, Javier Ceppi made a Presentation on the preparatory process for
the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup event.

With two more Home matches of the Indian National Team still to be played
in the Russia 2018 World Cup Preliminary Joint Qualification Rounds, it was
decided that the Indian Senior National Team will be playing their Home
Match against Guam in Bengaluru on November 12.

The Committee unanimously granted to Madhya Pradesh FA the right to host
the Senior National Women’s Championship while the final phase of the next
edition of the Santosh Trophy will be held in Nagpur.

It was decided that the 2nd Division League would be divided into a
Conference -- Eastern Conference and Western Conference and would be played
on a Home and Away basis. The top three Teams from each Conference would be
qualifying for the final phase of the League which would also be held on a
Home and Away basis.

In addition, the U-15 and the U-18 League have been divided into five zones
(Goa, East, Maharashtra, North East and the Rest of India Zone) and the top
two from each zone would be qualifying for the Final phase of the League.

The Committee also issued a directive to the Haryana Football Association

Meanwhile, the AIFF AGM for 2015 would be held on December 20, 2015 in Goa.

[Goanet] ‘BAN SANATAN SANSTHA’

2015-09-29 Thread Sam Furtado
September 28, 2015

*‘BAN SANATAN SANSTHA’*

Below is the extract of my mail dated 26th September, in which the caption
titled “THE IDEOLOGY OF SANATAN SANSTHA IN INDIA” read the last Para, which
clearly shows how Ericksonian hypnosis is applied in the direction-finding
of devotion to whom only God Knows Best.

Ericksonian Hypnosis

Public interest litigations have been filed in the Bombay High Court
seeking ban on Sanatan Sanstha stating that the organization uses a
technique called Ericksonian hypnosis (a technique whereby individuals as
well as masses in the society can be hypnotized), to lure people into
joining it and carry out acts of violence.

Hypnosis which literally means; artificially induced condition that can
persuade, tempt or influence person, in which he/she can respond to
questions and are very vulnerable, defenseless or prone to suggestions from
the hypnotist. Why on Earth this formula far-reaching effect or should we
say obsessive schooling of ‘Sanatan Sanstha’ the so called founder-leader
and Clinical Hypnotherapist Shri Jayant Balaji Athavale turned Spiritual
Guide, guiding the destiny, pain and suffering of the people by
‘Ericksonian Hypnosis’. Is this not a coercion or intimidation of people
to believe what he perceives or preaches is right and true to Salvation and
Peace and Happiness? Or should we say his obeisant mind with his
philosophy and obsession to make people fall in line could be the hidden
agenda even at the cost of compulsion to act violently at the behest of his
stringent rules to be followed come what may. Is this not unjust and harsh
a punishment?
Therefore the SSO will do well to understand that in the contemporary world
of today, coercion, intimidation and acts of violence does not pay
dividends but is the end of the road to salvation. They should be aware
that Public interest litigations (PIL) have been filed in the Bombay High
Court seeking ban on Sanatan Sanstha stating that the organization uses a
technique called Ericksonian hypnosis (a technique whereby individuals as
well as masses in the society can be hypnotized), to lure people into
joining it and carry out acts of violence.

These despicable acts of violence and moral policing by the so called
self-proclaimed Sanatan Sanstha in the name of ‘Spiritual Enlightenment’
should be condemned by right thinking people out-rightly banned for good
less our country befall to zealots.

What’s the hidden agenda of the called SSO? Would it not be fit case to
Ban this Organization all together just as they have done in the case of
MIM? The incumbent CM Laxmikant Parsekar Government in Goa would do well to
see no Black sheep exists in his cabinet.

For reasons best known to some; WHY IS GOA CHOSEN AS ITS HEADQUARTERS TO
RUN SUCH A DREADFUL OUTFIT AND WHY NOT THEIR OWN BACKYARD (MAHARASHTRA STATE)
where the incumbent founder-leader Jayant Balaji Athavale hails from and
who could perhaps benefit more than Goa as there are many who need in
spiritual guidance and help to elevate their trials and tribulations
elsewhere.

Who are the prime suspects carrying out acts of violence and terror
activities on innocent people? From where the source of funding operation
comes from; they get income to sustain the Organization running? A
complete back ground check need to be carried out with the help NIA, CBI,
ED, IT and external agencies such as Interpol etc. Unless these unobserved
activities of the so called Organization Sanatan Sanstha not banned then it
would be detrimental for many people in India and more so in the State of
Goa, as Goa being the Head-Quarters of Sanatan Sanstha all the more be
concerned behind their hidden agendas.

The Goa Government or its people with the help of the Central Government
and external Agencies to filter out those who use violence, especially
bombing, kidnapping, and assassination, to intimidate others, often for
political purposes etc., must be eliminated for their own safety and better
sense must prevail in the incumbent Government thinking cap or else Goa
could forever be predestined of its culture, tradition and customs.

PEOPLE OF GOA DO NOT BE AFRAID OF SATAN – GOD IS WITH YOU. ARISE IN
SOLIDARITY, FIGHT THE EVIL-NEXUS TOOTH AND NAIL and DRIVE AWAY THE EVIL FOE
AND STOP THE EVER MARAUDING AND MENACING FACTORS THAT ENCOMPASSING ALL NOT
FOR YOU BUT AT LEAST FOR YOUR CHILDREN’S SAKE AND FOR THEIR CHILDREN SAKE.

LET POSTERITY OF GOA EVER PREVAIL FOR ALL TIME.

2015-09-29 Thread Eduardo Faleiro
RE. 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIROSHIMA

by

Eduardo Faleiro

The world observed last month the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of
the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. At the final stage of the
Second World War, on August 6, 1945 the first nuclear device was detonated
by the American military on Hiroshima. Several thousand people died on the
spot and lakhs perished subsequently. A few days later, Nagasaki, another
bustling Japanese city, was also bombed with a nuclear missile and a
similar catastrophic outcome followed. Meetings held across the world last
August recalled the unprecedented tragedy of nuclear bombardment and called
for a total ban on nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction.
In New Delhi, on August 6, Members of Parliament from different political
parties and ideologies gathered at the lawns of the Japanese Embassy to pay
homage to the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nuclear strikes whether
deliberate or by accident, can lead to a catastrophic nuclear war. If
mankind does not eliminate such weapons then those weapons will destroy
mankind, they asserted. In Mumbai, on the same day, more than 2700 students
participated in a rally demanding an end to nuclear weapons. The event was
organized by the Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and the Bombay University. The
participants pledged to work towards elimination of all nuclear weapons and
other weapons of mass destruction. The tragedy wrought by the nuclear
weapons in Hiroshima and Nagasaki must never be repeated. Humanity and
nuclear weapons cannot coexist, they proclaimed. Similar meetings were held
all across the country.

In 1968, the United Nations General Assembly, at the instance of
the Western nuclear Powers, who are permanent members of the Security
Council, passed the Non-Proliferation Treaty of nuclear weapons commonly
known as the NPT with the objective of preventing the spread of nuclear
weapons and nuclear weapon technology to countries without such weapons. It
recognizes 5 States as nuclear weapon States, the United States, Russia,
the United Kingdom, France and China. These countries hold more than 2
nuclear warheads in their combined stockpile and have shown a reluctance to
disarm. The NPT does not prevent the use of nuclear weapons by the nuclear
weapon States and hence it does not eliminate the threat posed by such
weapons. The Treaty opened for signature in 1968. Neither India nor
Pakistan signed the NPT. It was rightly pointed out that piecemeal efforts
such as the NPT do not serve any purpose. Nuclear disarmament ought to be
to be total and universal. Nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass
destruction cost billions of dollars. It has been mentioned that every
warship and every rocket is a theft from those who are hungry and have no
money to buy food. These enormous amounts should go to remove poverty and
improve health and education in the world. In June 1998 our then Prime
Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi submitted a comprehensive “Action Plan for a
Nuclear Weapons Free and Non-Violent World” at a special session on
Disarmament of the United Nations General Assembly. Rajiv Gandhi termed
nuclear destruction “the ultimate expression of the philosophy of
terrorism, holding humanity hostage to the presumed security needs of a
few”. The United States Government rejected the Rajiv Gandhi Plan
apparently as a result of pressure from its military- industrial complex.
The arms lobbies are powerful everywhere and particularly in the United
States. Government of India should continue to push at the United Nations
for international acceptance and implementation of the Rajiv Gandhi Plan
for total and universal nuclear disarmament.

At present both India and Pakistan hold nuclear weapons. The two
neighbours should engage constructively and find a long term solution for
peace and stability in this region. It was unfortunate that a recent
meeting of the National Security Advisors of the two countries was
cancelled as they failed to agree on the agenda. Pakistan wanted to discuss
Kashmir and India wished to focus on terrorism. However, one cannot be
discussed without the other. Pakistan pulled out after India’s Foreign
Minister asserted that the talks would take place only if Pakistan’s NSA
did not meet the Hurriyat leaders. This was rather unrealistic. Meetings of
the Pakistani leaders with the Hurriyat have taken place for the last 20
years even during the NDA and UPA regimes. In the exchange of words after
cancellation of talks, Pakistan’s National Security Advisor, Sartaj Aziz
was quoted by the Dawn newspaper as saying “Modi’s India acts as they are a
regional super power. We are a nuclear armed country and we know how to
defend ourselves.”

Whilst the two sides have distinct priorities, they should, with a sense of
urgency, find ways to resume the composite dialogue and take forward the
peace process.

To,

Subject: Call to revoke N.O.C granted to Mobile towers at Bambolim and Nauxim

Dear Madam,

Bharat
Mukti Morcha strongly calls upon you to immediately revoke the N.O.C.
granted by you for setting up of mobile towers in Bambolim near Aldeia
de Goa gate and another one at Nauxim inside the compound wall of Aldeia
de Goa. In addition we have received information that third tower too
is going to be installed in Nauxim village. We are surprised that you
gave N.O.C. without consulting the villagers with radiation risks are
imminent.

We
have already submitted our protests and objections for mobile towers to
Goa State Pollution Control Board, Panjim on 30th July 2015. These high
capacity mobile towers will cause radiation not only to the Nauxim
village but several surrounding villages such as Bambolim, Telaulim,
Curca, Cacra, Siridao, Odxel etc. White invaders massacred aborigines of
America through bloody wars during past 5 centuries and we aborigines
of Goa are now sought to be killed through radiation from mobile towers
in Nauxim and Bambolim. We will not allow it. We want all these mobile
towers to be uprooted.

Bharat Mukti Morcha calls upon you to immediately revoke N.O.C. granted to
install mobile towers at Nauxim and Bambolim.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

++ Filthy streets
++ Poorly maintained beaches
++ Non-existent traffic regulations
++ Overpriced

Americans generally don't go all the way to Goa (why would they?) - there are
plenty of awesome beaches in Florida, Hawaii and in the Caribbeans - and an
average hotel here costs less than the price of a rotten hotel in Goa.

I don't know anybody who claims that Goa is beautiful anymore and don't blame
the government for all the ills. There is probably no money to clean the place
or its all gobbled down by corrupt people ... and then, who pays taxes anymore?

Local businesses pay diddly-squat.

For example, I spent 6 days in Goa where we mostly ate our meals at Goan
restaurants - usually along the beach belt. Not one restaurant was willing to
accept my US issued credit cards or debit cards - even though the checks were
not small money.

The reason?

Of course, they don't need to show their sales and income - and therefore pay
no taxes!

[Goanet] Goa, as Goa was: cleanliness and health two generations ago.... (Domnic Fernandes, Village Anjuna)

BOOK-EXTRACT
-
Domnic Fernandes was Goanet's find. After
he started writing his uber-interesting
reminiscences of the Goa of the
yesteryears in cyberspace through this
network over a decade ago, many
appreciated his work. After writing his
first book in 2007 ('Domnic's Goa') and
his second on Mapusa in 2012, Domnic's
latest book called 'Village Anjuna' ISBN
978-93-80739-98-4 gets released on this
weekend. The author invites every
Goanetter and relatives back home for
this function in Anjuna on coming Sunday
evening. Details below. This text is an extract
from his latest book.
---

In the middle of the last century, life in Goa was hard. It
was not an easy task, but the people of those times had
neither high aspirations nor did they work themselves to the
bone to become wealthy, as is the case today. People lived
for the day. They depended solely on Mother Nature for their
daily requirements.

RINTTE, THE INEDIBLE SOAP BERRIES

They say: 'Cleanliness is next to godliness' and man has
followed this adage. There were no power laundries around,
but the few clothes owned were regularly washed. Detergents
then were not as abundantly available. So, with what did he
wash his clothes? He made use of a natural detergent, rintte
(small, round, inedible soap-producing berries).

Practically every ward in Anjuna then had a few
  rintteachim zhaddam (trees bearing inedible
berries). Once the rintte were ripe and dried on
the tree, they would fall to the ground, just like
boram (sweet-sour local berries). Every morning,
people, especially women, would gather under the
trees and collect as many rintte as they needed for
the day. They would sometimes gather extra rintte,
dry and store them in a panttulo (basket made of
  bamboo), as a contingency stock.

Here is how rintte were used: housewives would fill a bucket
with water, place two handfuls of rintte in it and leave them
to soak overnight for maximum soap extraction. Washing
clothes was an early morning chores so that clothes could be
put out to dry in the open when the sun rose. As soon as
women woke up, they would stir water in the bucket with their
hands in order to check the formation of lather, which was as
good as that of any detergent today. They would keep the
soiled clothes in the bucket for soaking until breakfast for
the family was prepared.

By then, washing the soaked clothes became much easier.

Clothes were washed on a large rôp duvpachi fatorn (stone for
washing of clothes), placed at a height on a pedestal of
stones. Washing was done by pressing and rubbing clothes on a
washing stone, but thick and heavily soiled clothes were
either beaten with a solid, round tonnko (bludgeon)
preferably of bamboo, or they would just swirl and hit the
clothes on the washing stone, every swirl accompanied by a
sound: Shh... S! Shh... S! Shh... S!

In the case of obstinate stains, they would pick some rintte
from the bucket and rub them into the spots, and the stains
would completely disappear. We never used rintte at my home
to wash our clothes, but I would collect and pass them on to
those of my neighbours who could not afford to buy washing
soap. Today, we have dozens of brands of detergents to wash
clothes. Most middle class people use a washing machine.

In Anjuna, there was a Christian professional
mainato (Portuguese word) or moddvoll (washer man).
He was quite short in stature and always wore a
pair of white shorts and a short-sleeved white
shirt. As we know, the collar of a shirt gathers
more dirt than the rest of the shirt, and it was
worse in those days with heavy dust flying in the
air from muddy roads. Therefore, the washer man,
like some people, placed a folded handkerchief
under collar of his shirt to avoid dirt on the
collar. He did the laundry of the affluent as well
as of St. Michael's Church. Because of his long
association with the church he was allotted a paddy
field, which he cultivated with paddy.

A Hindu woman from Baga also collected laundry around Anjuna.
Fair in complexion, she would wear a blouse and sari that was
folded into a kastto (a form of dressing of the sari used by
fisher-women). She picked-up dirty clothes on a Saturday and
returned them washed in a week. She would count the clothes
and tie them together with one of the dirty clothes. She
wrapped clothes in a bed sheet and carried the bundle on her
head. As kids, we wondered how she never mixed up clothes
among her clientele. The moddvoll washed clothes at a well,
and these were then strung on a rope between two trees.

Mid-20th century, it was a fashion to wear starched clothes,
especially white shirts. Many post-Liberation politicians

[Goanet] IS GOA NOW A DEATH DESTINATION FOR TOURISTS

2015-09-29 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Over the last ten years a record number of 157 tourists were reported dead
at Anjuna, 69 in Pernem while 19 at Mapusa. This has been revealed in the
information furnished under the Right to Information Act.

In an attempt to find out how safe a tourist destination Goa has been,
information was sought the Director General of Police on details of all
Indian and foreign tourists reported dead in Goa over the last decade.

As per the information furnished, of the 123 foreigners reported dead at
Anjuna 12 died due to drowning, 7 suicides, 20 accidents, 6 were murdered,
59 were natural deaths while 29 year old British National Mathew Maclean
died due to electrocution after having touched a live wire fallen on the
road. Deaths of 18 foreigners are still under investigation with the cause
of death yet not known.

Of the 34 Indian tourists dead at Anjuna 17 were due to drowning, 3
suicides, 2 accidents, 4 murders, 2 natural while the cause of other six
deaths is yet not known.

At Pernem a total of 69 foreigners were reported dead of which 13 were due
to drowning, 7 suicides, 8 accidents, 1 murder, 20 natural deaths while the
cause of the other 20 deaths is still under investigation.

Of the 19 foreigners reported dead at Mapusa 6 were killed in accidents, 3
murdered, 9 natural deaths and cause of one death still not known.

Interestingly of the 80 natural deaths reported at Anjuna, Pernem and
Mapusa 50 of those dead were under the age of 45 and died due to alleged
overdose of narcotics and alcohol. It is informed that no specific records
of death of Indian tourists at Mapusa and Pernem is maintained

Last week it was informed that within the jurisdiction of Canacona Police
station 71 tourists died over the last ten years of which 38 were
foreigners while 31 were Indian tourists.

Of the 38 foreigners dead 7 were killed in road accidents, 5 due to
drowning, 2 suicides and 24 natural deaths of whom 8 were under the age
of 50 which includes 22 year old Finnish National Felix Dahl whose mother
has been alleging that her son was murdered at Canacona.

Of the 33 Indian Tourists reported dead at Canacona, 9 were killed in road
accidents, 19 due to drowning, 1 suicide and 4 natural deaths.

The large number death of tourists in Goa is very disturbing and there is
need for the government to take some immediate corrective measures.

While the figures of death of Tourists at Colva, Calangute amongst other
places is still awaited, it is now very evident that Goa is not a safe
destination for tourists.

Though crores are being squandered on foreign jaunts by Ministers to
promote Tourism, it is very anguishing that the basic infrastructure
including the roads in Goa are in a very pathetic state and a virtual death
trap at many places.

Due to lack of foresight by successive governments Goa has today become a
drug, gambling, prostitution and crime haven. The above figures say it all.
