Re: [Goanet] REMO WAS UNNECESSARY TARGETED

2015-12-22 Thread Eugene Correia
Well, we must see the issue in proper perspective. Right now, we must
believe the girl, for she has no reason to state what she said. No doubt
it's for the court to decide but that a priest is now involved in helping
the girl gives legitimacy to her cause. Marybe, Remo lost his cool. What
would have happened if the girl had in fact died?
It would, at least in Canada, treated as homicide. The punishment is grave
in this part of the world.

The best way to resolve this issue is for plea-bargaining and compensatory
gesture by Remo. An apology is the first time from Remo. As I said
elsewhere, he can raise money through having a benefit concert to raise
money for medical expenses.

Hope the girl recovers, and hope Remo keeps her welfare in mind. He must
live his image. Talking of politicians and himself wanted to be a
politician is self-defeating. Remo should rise up to the occasion.

He is targeted for speaking rudely to the girl. What provoked him to say
that when the girl is injured. If the girl was responsible, then the issue
takes a different turn. It's unfortunate Remo is "target", for the media is
doing its job. What Aires is doing is in his personal capacity. But Aires
is known to do such acts and also known to have abandon such cases mid-way.

[Goanet] Elano's arrest was unwarranted

2015-12-22 Thread Sandeep Heble
It was a bit silly on the part of the Margao Police to register an FIR for
what transpired in the heat of the moment during the Indian Super League
Football Finals between FC Goa & Chennaiyin FC. Incidents of non serious
nature like elbowing & head butting are common occurrences in football and
what happens in the stadium must remain in the stadium.

The team management went overboard to take the matter up before the Police
when they could easily have brought this up before the match officials or
the disciplinary committee which is the proper authority to deal with such
incidents. FIFA have their own disciplinary code and regulations and one
does not lodge a Police complaint against a foul that occurs at a stadium,
either on field or off it.

Football is a contact sport where players get physically as well as
emotionally drawn into all the excitement. Passions & tempers run high & at
times, such incidents do occur. Was Zidane arrested for headbutting
Materaazi? Were Voller & Rijkaard arrested for kicking one another? Was
Subroto Paul arrested when he punched Christiano Junior which even resulted
in his death? Such incidents are sad, they shouldn't happen but they do and
that is what makes football one of the most debated, popular & interesting
sports in the World.

The incident which reportedly occurred in the dug-out has left a sour taste
to an otherwise exciting finals. It was clearly an error of judgment on the
management's part to get the Chennai captain Elano Blumer arrested for
unintentional elbowing its co-owner. The FC Goa team also boycotted the
match presentation which was sad. In a game, one has to win & one has to
lose and this should be accepted sportingly & graciously. The FC Goa
management needs to sort this matter out at the earliest & make amends.
Football is a religion in Goa & forgive & forget should be the best way
out.

[Goanet] Elano episode shocking and shameful, says Patel

2015-12-22 Thread Sandeep Heble
Elano episode shocking and shameful, says Patel

- AIFF bosses fear issue may snowball into unofficial boycott of India

New Delhi: Upset with the way the FC Goa management had the Chennaiyin FC's
Brazilian skipper Elano Blumer arrested on Sunday night, the All India
Football Federation (AIFF) said it was their duty to protect the foreign
players and referees on Indian soil.

The celebration of the Chennai franchise for winning the ISL final turned
sour in Goa on Sunday night, after Goa police arrested Elano for allegedly
assaulting FC Goa co-owner, Dattaraj Salgaocar, immediately after the match.

Elano, a member of Brazil's 2010 World Cup squad, was taken to the local
police station in a white SUV and was made to sit till 2.30 a.m. before
being granted bail. He returned to Chennai on Monday, after agreeing to
appear whenever he would be called by the authorities.

Though the Goa franchise blamed all concerned, including the referee, ISL
management and the misbehaviour of the rivals for the entire mess, the
AIFF, on Monday, called development after the final in Margao as shameful.

A source in the federation said since the matter has also been referred to
the disciplinary committee, FC Goa could face heavy sanctions despite the
fact that one of their co-owners, Srinivas Dempo, is also the vice
president of the AIFF.

"This could also jeopardise Goa's position as a major soccer venue in the
country," the official said. "Such behaviour from responsible people was
not expected. Mr Dempo should have remembered his position as a senior AIFF
official," he said.

Bosses in the national body are of the opinion that the treatment meted out
to Elano might snowball into an unofficial boycott of India by foreign
players. Hundreds of foreign footballers from Latin America, Africa, Europe
and Asian nations play in the ISL, I-League and various local leagues.

"AIFF views yesterday's post ISL final developments very seriously. It is
shocking and shameful. Will not tolerate indiscipline," said the federation
president Praful Patel in a tweet.

"Protection of international players and referees, on and off the field of
play, and conduct of match has to be as per the Fifa guidelines," added
Patel, obviously fearing international repercussion because of Elano's
arrest.

"The entire episode was disappointing. We have called for the match
commissioner's report and will take action accordingly," said the AIFF
general secretary Kushal Das. He agreed the national body could face huge
embarrassment if Elano decides to move Fifa through the Brazilian
federation (CBF). The Goa franchise, which earlier took an aggressive
posture on the entire issue, went on the back foot on Monday. Salgaocar,
who openly called the final a fixed match after the 2-3 defeat, made a
volte face to say he has no complaint about the result of the final.

This complete somersault from the Goa co-owner came after the ISL
management issued a statement condemning the adverse remarks of the Goa
management.

"The league has taken a serious view of the unsporting behaviour by the Goa
franchise and alleged unsporting behaviour of certain players of the teams,
on and off the field.

"The matter has now been referred to the ISL disciplinary committee. ISL
has a strict code of conduct with an established integrity unit and an ACSU
division," said the statement.

Sources in the AIFF felt FC Goa took the matter too far, by lodging a
police complaint against Elano and boycotting the prize distribution
ceremony. In fact, Brazilian legend Zico, the coach of the Goa franchise
for two seasons, on Monday, said he was not in favour of players boycotting
the medal ceremony, but he did not find it right to go against the club
management. Zico, however, made it clear he felt the supervision of the
final was of poor quality.

The Goa franchise continued to maintain the police complaint was filed
after Elano assaulted Salgaocar, who apparently went to congratulate him
for the victory. The Brazilian was booked under sections 341 (wrongful
restrain), 323 (causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach
of peace).

*Hard to judge Players from one session: Constantine*

By Nilanjan Datta,
AIFF Media Team

*TRIVANDRUM:* National Coach Stephen Constantine stressed on his vision of
“building a Team for future,” in the Official pre-Tournament Media
Interaction in Trivandrum on Tuesday (December 22).

“Our squad is about the younger Players. I am trying to build a Team for
the future,” he said on the occasion.

“It’s always nice to play in your own Country. But the irony is that we
haven’t been able to have 11v11 games prior to this morning despite having
summoned a Preparatory Camp since December 10,” he added.

The Indian Team had a practice session in the morning. “Though we had
called for Players in the Camp earlier in an effort to prepare better for
the SAFF Suzuki Cup, the strength in the Camp wasn’t enough to prepare. At
a time we were reduced to just 14 Players and there was no way we could
conduct our practice properly,” he later told www.the-aiff.om.

Referring to a question of how he gauged the morning session, Constantine
replied towww.the-aiff.com that “it’s hard to judge Players from just one
session.”

All the Players summoned reported to the Camp latest by yesterday (December
21) evening except the duo of Romeo Fernandes and Mandhar Rao Desai. “We
were expecting them in the Camp but they didn’t turn up,” Constantine
echoed.

For the record, Constantine had earlier released an injured Sandesh
Jhingan, Cavin Lobo and Seityasen Singh from the Camp in Kochi.

“I just don’t care as to who plays where. If you are good, you will find a
way into my squad. That has always been my philosophy and it will always be
the same. I have never gone by the names and the Clubs you play for and
will not do so ever,” Constantine maintained.

“If you look at the squad, we have a couple (K Zain and Arjun Tudu) from
the Army and another Player (Kaushik Sarkar) from SAI, Kolkata,” he
informed at the Media Interaction.

Apart from them, Daniel Lalhimpuia, Udanta Singh and Alwyn George (all non
ISL Players) were also summoned for the Camp but Constantine regretted that
he “couldn’t have a look at them as they didn’t turn up.”

The trio has been products of AIFF Youth Development over the years and
Daniel, was in fact, the Captain of the India U-19 National Team in the AFC
U-19 Qualifiers earlier this season.

“I have my scouting system in place and will try to bring in as many new
faces into the system,” Constantine stated.

In any case, another 18-year old Lallianzuala, part of the present squad
said it has been an “unbelievable experience” for him.

“It’s a life time opportunity for me. The Coach has given me an opportunity
and I am trying to do my best and learn as much as possible. When you look
around I see my heroes playing with me. I am getting richer in experience,”
he spoke at the Official Media Interaction.

“These young ones keep us on our toes all the time,” quipped Chhetri, who
sat next.

India who have been clubbed in Group A with Nepal and Sri Lanka play their
first match against Sri Lanka on December 25, 2015.

[Goanet] AGACAIM POLICE SEEK HELP OF INDIAN EMBASSY IN LISBON TO SERVE SUMMONS ON POP STAR REMO FERNANDES ACCUSED IN CHILD ABUSE CASE

2015-12-22 Thread Aires Rodrigues
The Agacaim Police have today sought the assistance of the Indian Embassy
at Lisbon in Portugal to serve the summons to secure the presence in Goa
of famed Pop Star and Padma Shri Remo Fernandes who has been booked in the
child abuse case.

Agacaim Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi has sent the summons to the Goa office
of the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to be forwarded to the
Indian Embassy in Portugal to be served on Remo Fernandes as he is a
Portuguese national and currently in Portugal. The Agacaim Police has
directed Remo Fernandes to appear on 23rd December at 4pm failing which the
Police will take steps to compel his presence.

The Police have already also summoned Remo’s son Jonah Fernandes to appear
on December 23rd at 10 am in connection with the case registered against
his father.

The Agacaim Police last week registered an F.I.R under Sec 8 of the Goa
Children’s Act 2003 against Remo Fernandes after recording the statement of
the minor victim girl before the Child Welfare NGO. The offence Remo
Fernandes is charged with is non bailable and carries an imprisonment of a
maximum of three years along with a fine of up to Rs one lakh.

Remo Fernandes is accused of having verbally abused the 17 year old minor
girl Helen D’Souza of Malvan who was knocked down at Gurim on 1st Dec by
the speeding car driven by his son Jonah in which Remo Fernandes was also
travelling. “Why are you alive. You should have died” is what Remo
Fernandes is accused of having allegedly said while verbally abusing the
minor girl.

The Mapusa Police have already registered an offence of rash and negligent
driving against Jonah Fernandes under Sections 279 and 338 of the Indian
Penal Code.

The grievously hurt Helen D’Souza is currently recuperating in Ward No 105
at the Goa Medical College in Bambolim where she is undergoing multiple
operations for her head and leg injuries.

2015-12-22 Thread Rajan Parrikar
Photo Blog by Rajan Parrikar has posted a new item, 'The Queen'

An extraordinary evening with Her Majesty.

No mountain in Iceland inspires as much awe and affection as Herðubreið
("broad shouldered"), set in the desolate expanse of the Ódáðahraun ("Lava
of
Evil Deeds") lava field in the northern Highlands. The table mountain (1682
m)
took shape in a subglacial eruption around 20,000 years ago. To the [...]

[Goanet] Another Record for Vasudeo ohGaitonde and Goan Art (Times of India)

2015-12-22 Thread Marshall Mendonza
VM wrote:
Earlier this week, an untitled abstract masterpiece by Gaitonde sold
at a Christies auction in Mumbai for $4.4 million dollars, beating the
$4.1 million benchmark set in New York a few months earlier by Souza's
1955 oil-on-board, 'Birth'.
Souza and Gaitonde died less than 15 years ago, and in their own
lifetimes neither sold a painting for even $10,000.
both men died almost penniless, in near-solitary circumstances, almost
totally
ignored by the same Indian art "establishment" that now feeds greedily
off their corpuses.
Souza and Gaitonde's younger peers Laxman Pai and Vamona Navelcar are
alive, but just as ignored and overlooked as today's record breakers were
just 15 years
ago. Perhaps even more egregious is the case of Goa's utterly
brilliant young artists: Viraj Naik, Loretti Pinto, Pradeep Naik,
Shilpa Mayenkar Naik, Santosh Morajkar, Karishma D'Souza, Kedar
Dhondu, Siddarth Gosavi, Kalidas Mhamai and others.

Response: Why is it that works of such great artists are admired and valued
after their death? Why are they not appreciated during their lifetime?

Regards

Marshall
