THERE IS NO ISSUE FOR REMO ABOUT THE LEGALITY OF NATIONAL AWARD.
I AM SURE THAT REMO MAY NOT LIKE TO KEEP THIS  AWARD WITH HIM ANYMORE AND
HE IS CAPABLE OF SURRENDERING IT. MATTER ENDS. MANY PEOPLE ALREADY
SURRENDERED THEIR AWARDS.
NEXT TIME BEFORE GIVING AWARDS GOVERNMENT MUST VERIFY WHETHER HE OR SHE ARE
FOREIGNERS AND NO CRIME HAVE COMMITTED IF NATIONALS AND ALL SUCH CLAUSES
MUST BE LOOKED INTO BEFORE AWARDING THEM.
 WHY ISSUES EVERYDAY CROPPING UP. WHO KNOWS WHAT ACTUALLY REMO SAID TO THIS

Nationality issue comes to haunt pop singer

A simple case of rash and negligent driving filed against the son of pop
singer Remo Fernandes has threatened to snowball into a major controversy
for the award winning musician with questions now being raised about the
legality of the Padma Shri award he received in 2007 as well as his
participation in politics in late 2013 following the AAP’s success in Delhi.
According to information available, Remo’s birth was registered in Lisbon
in 1993, but was issued a Portuguese passport only in 2011.
While activist Aires Rodrigues alleges that one becomes a Portuguese
national no sooner one’s birth is registered in Portugal, and hence Remo
was a Portuguese national since then, another line of argument suggests
that one becomes a Portuguese national only when one willingly renounces
their Indian citizenship through accepting a Portuguese passport or a
Bilhete de Identidade (Identity Card).
“Documents reveal that Remo Fernandes acquired Portuguese citizenship on
May 21, 1993,” Rodrigues said pointing to the assento de nascimento issued
in Remo’s name.
Remo received the Padma Shri in 2007 as well as the Karmaveer Puraskar
award.
While his nationality at the time of receiving the Padma Shri, is
debatable, his being appointed as a brand ambassador for the Election
Commission of India to promote ethical voting and urging people to come out
and vote as well as joining the Aam Aadmi Party in December 2013 well after
he was issued a Portuguese passport is not.
Remo was roped in ahead of the Assembly elections in Goa to help draw youth
to vote with his posters and banners -- erected across the state --
appealing people to come out in large numbers and vote.
Following AAP’s surprise showing at the Delhi assembly elections in
December 2013, Remo along with noted doctor Oscar Rebello joined the party
making them two popular figures to join the upstart party.
While Remo was issued a Portuguese passport in 2011, he surrendered his
Indian Passport at the Indian Embassy in Lisbon in 2014 completing his
nationality migration process.
Fernandes has not denied that he is a Portuguese national but in a
statement to a local news website Remo has said that there’s nothing wrong
in being a Portuguese national.
“There is nothing shameful or embarrassing about opting for another
nationality”, says Remo.
“Yes, I have taken Portuguese nationality after duly surrendering my Indian
nationality, but I have an OCI Card, which makes me an Overseas Citizen of
India. This is something I have never hidden, so the claim that this is
\'discovered\' by the Police is a pathetic misleader”, said Remo to the

[Goanet] The Road to Hell Will Pass Through Moira and Aldona

It struck me that the "development" that is going on around involving the
slaughter of the age old trees by the Moira club ground.had been stuck in
the RP 2021 as a kindred soul reminded me of late.

Since this club ground is Nobody's property, Everybody felt sorry but only
Nobody wanted to raise a finger about it and Everybody kept quiet.

Everyone is wondering about what will happen to the Pais houses' compound
walls and the well on the opposite side. Nobody will be surprised if they
are demolished or buried as the case may be.

Once that is done the road apparently goes to around the Tollear area of
Aldona and takes a detour through the fields so as to link up to the
Corjuem bridge. I had noticed that the work there had already begun once
before and thought it was some private development, but now perhaps it is
not so and is part of the highway which apparently is being pushed from
Delhi through the NHAI.

Now why are these roads being developed so sweetly for the Moira and Aldona
people? Moira and Aldona people = my fart!! The whole idea if I remember
correctly is to make a shortcut for the mining trucks that will be coming
from the Bicholim area through the Poira bridge.

Then see what the "developmental mining trucks" will do to our lives as the
traffic starts zooming past our homes and your vehicles as they get onto
the main road. OK right now there is a lull in mining and the price of the
ore internationally but for how long will this slump last?

I write this with a sense of despair as I have very little faith in the
people of Moira or Aldona to do anything to protect themselves from the
coming onslaught. In fact I'd be surprised if the honorable folks don't wag
their tongues at me to preach the virtues of "development".

BTW if there is anything factually or otherwise wrong about what I've
written above please do take the trouble to correct me.

I have been bringing the news earlier of Sewage Tankers vehicles seen

to discharge into the PWD  Sewage Treatment plant  at St.Ines -Tonca  which
comes an early morning.
Today ( 26th December 2015) at 7 AM, I saw about 14 numbers of sewage
tankers lined up on the adjacent road at PWD Tonca office coming from all
the distant parts of Goa.
 I have been informed by a nearby resident  that the sewage is not been
able to take up the load, into this plant as the capacity of the plant is
not adequate. Hence the excess is allegedly being discharged into the St
Ines Creek. This needs to be investigated by the authorities especially the
CCP Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues who is directly looking after the city.
If such a trend continues than the Creek will be further deteriorated and
the foul smell and health hazards with respiratory disorders are continued
to take place. The Health authorities and the Goa State Pollution Control
Board must also visit and take samples at the site and remedial steps must
be taken to avoid further deterioration of the St.Ines Creek and the health
of the residents.
My question to the Government of Goa , why such a load is being permitted
to bring  from various places to this St.Ines Creek?  Who gets the benefit?
Is there any accountability of entry fees to the Government? Who is
 directly responsible and involved for this job, whether Taleigao Panchayat
, Commissioner of City of Panjim or PWD?
The Chief Secretary must be able to scrutinize and put the system in place
as it is serious.

Totally agree with you Rico. You are saying what I feel too.
When I said tweaked I mean tweaked by whoever is writing it. Read history as 
written by the Greeks re Alexander on India. Then read the same battle by 
Indian historians. Both versions are vastly different.
As for the film, I liked the film.
The author who wrote the article did not see the movie and used it as a 
referral for another point. Fine by me. 
The point is that history is written most often by the victorious and it is not 
necessarily the correct version as yo well pointed outré Shivaji. To many he is 
a hero but to the Brits they called him a Mountain Rat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unscheduled stop on Christmas day at Lahore
for confabulation with Pakistan Prime minister Nawaz Sharif may be a step
in the right direction. However highly outrageous was Defence Minister
Manohar Parrikar’s recent public outburst at his birthday celebration in
Goa that he had directed the armed forces not to get killed but to instead
kill the enemy. That very irresponsible statement only confirmed that even
on turning 60 Manohar Parrikar was yet to mature and is possibly already
senile.


Diplomacy and appropriate tactful strategy should be the key in defending
any country’s interests. Despicable canons let loose would only go contrary
and prejudice India’s peacemaking attempts within the country and its
neighbours. Politicians displaying signs of rancid pickle should be timely
consigned to the racks and not be allowed to further destabilize our
already troubled Nation.

One of the joys of being a Goan is that our cuisine incorporates spices from 
every corner of India and preparation methods from all over the world.
On the flip side, Goan cuisine can also be really unhealthy.  People have now 
learnt from the medical professionals to reduce or stop cooking with ghee. 
Sorpotel is loaded with fat and organs and at the most, I have it two or three 
times a year. Xmas season is when the diet really goes haywire. It is easy to 
avoid sweets and savories cooked in coconut oil but how does one avoid a sweet 
whose main ingredient is coconut? How does one not taste bolinhas? 
As for improvements and substitution of ingredients, the Goans in Toronto are 
doing a great job. Most of the better cooks are at the age where they really 
have to look after their diets. The dishes they produce are excellent - even 
when they have substituted the unhealthy ingredients. 
I've got to look into harvesting this information from these cooks.

As the General Secretary of the 15 year old Goa's only consistent Regional
Party, and its [provisionally] declared serious candidate for the 2017 Goa
Legislative Assembly Elections, I happened to make my rounds yesterday  to
extend CHRISTMAS DAY greetings  to the constituency's possible grass-roots
leaders. And I saw life sized photo posters at every prominent place, every
where in the Aldona Constituency,  extending Christmas greetings to the
people, where most of the posters had the face cut out, sending a clear
message to the possible CANDIDATE  " Hey! Do not crowd us through your
money power". A similar display of similar posters were seen a month ago
extending DIVALI  greetings to  the people of Aldona  by yet another
aspiring to be Goa's Legislator which posters had suffered the same fate.

Every Tom Dick and Harry, who makes a packet [whether through legal or
illegal means] aspires to be the LEGISLATOR to serve the people. Can we
fault them? Surely not. They see our LEGISLATORS doing/minding the work
that needs to be done by the EXECUTIVE, delegating to themselves the
importance in the eyes of the ordinary voters that they are serving  the
people by supervising road works, erection of power transformers, cutting
of  trees, starting hot-mixing of roads,  etc.  Little do the people know,
as also themselves, that this work is assigned to the EXECUTIVE such as
PWD, ELECTRICITY DEPT, etc through Legislative orders and directions, which
is the prerogative of the elected LEGISLATORS who mostly go about as not
MLAs but MALF [Members of Ass Licking Fraternity], not knowing what it is
to LEGISLATE.

We at *Goa Su-Raj Party* [not Suraj Party] deeply appreciate the mention of
its name in the  O Heraldo's  esteemed Editorial. It must be remembered
that GSP [or GSRP] has been painstakingly built to go SLOW and STEADY, for
it is inevitable that it is built to win the RACE, only when the people of
Goa are ready to bask in the GLORY of this WIN. And, it must be also
remembered that a TORTOISE cannot afford to hold any baggage over its back
lest its advance is slowed down still further.

worried more and constantly kept asking how serious Robin Singh’s injury

“When you do recovery sessions in water it’s quite beneficial for the
Players. They don’t feel the pressure, the banging on the joints as the

 “It also gets them out of the Hotel apart from their daily schedule which
at times can be boring. When you train with scenery behind you it’s quite a
bit of fun. So it’s as much as mental as much as physical,” Constantine
adds.


How did you see Nepal in their first match against Sri Lanka?


“Nepal were unlucky to lose in their first match. They are a good side and
tomorrow (Sunday, December 27) will be a tricky match. We are an improving
Team and hopefully, we will get the result we desire.”


Desire! That’s quite evident in the squad. From a distance you watch
Constantine speaking to Lallianzuala. Hands on his shoulder, the Gaffer
explains waving his hands. The waves thunder at the background.


You ought to credit it to the Coach. For the SAFF Championship, it’s a
20-member squad which can be registered. And he was brave enough to have an
18-year old kid and another University student who has just played for a
State League Team, that too not for any big side in the list of 20. Not to
forget that registering three Goalkeepers stays a must in the Championship.


“Listen,” this time Constantine puts his shoulder around you. “Sports is
simple. If you are good enough, you are old enough. Do your job, get your
chance, grab your spot,” comes the 1-2-3 from Constantine.


At the Kovalam, the boys played some warm-up games, stretched on the sands,
some jogging in the water and a bit of fun riding the waves.


Arnab Mondal, who was at times dragged into the waves by Pronay (Halder),
Narayan (Das) and Pritam (Kotal) laughed it off when mentioned whether he
feared of the deep waters.


“Life is synonymous with challenges. Waters will be deep but we are there
to ride and swim out of the deep. We are Constantine’s squad. We are
fearless,” he said even as Halder helped dust the sand behind his back.


The kick-off against Nepal on Sunday (December 27) is at 6.30pm and will be
telecast live on Star Sports.

Dear all: A reminder -- you're most welcome to our Goanetters' annual meet
to be held on Dec 28, 2015 (Monday) at the Fundacao Oriente, Fontainhas,
Panjim, Goa. The venue is just alongside People's High School, a prominent
landmark in the area. If you need directions, please ask for People's High
School, and anyone in the Fontainhas-Mala locality should be able to guide
you there. Or call/SMS me on 9822122436.

In keeping with our recent trend of visiting local institutions, this year
Fundacao Oriente delegate in India (and Goanetter) Ines Figueira has made
it possible for Goanetters to get to know the art works of the famed Goan
artist A X Trinidade (sometimes called the Rembrandt of the East, come ans
see why!).

Please be there on time, those who come early will get tea :-)

It's not too late to RSVP; we are still receiving confirmations. If you're
not in Goa, but know someone who might be interested, please pass on the
word.  Better still, you can ask them to sign-up for a last-minute Goanet
membership and join us as our newest member :-) As you know, there is no
charge for joining Goanet.

This 21-year-young network set up by Dr Herman Carneiro in 1994 (when he
was a 17-year-old student) continues to be driven by volunteer power, which
