*STERN NEPAL TEST FOR INDIAN WOMEN*

*AIFF Media Team*

*NEW DELHI: *After thrashing Sri Lanka 5-0 the Indian Women’s Senior
National Team faces a stern test of credentials as they clash swords
against Nepal at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on February 11,
2016 in the ongoing 12th South Asian Games.

The kick-off is at IST 11am.

Nepal are yet to concede a goal in the ongoing Championship and sit pretty
atop grabbing maximum points out of two matches courtesy a 2-0 win over
Maldives and then, a 3-0 win over Bangladesh.

However, it will also be a litmus test for the Nepalese attack force when
they face a compact Indian defence linewhich has allowed only one shot at
the Indian goal in over 180 minutes.

Talking to www.the-aiff.com, Head Coach of the Indian Women Sajid Dar said:
“Nepal are one of the strongest Teams in the Tournament and we respect our
opponents as we they possess the necessary weapons to hurt us.”

“We need to be focused and concentrate on the task at hand. An early goal
will make things fluid for us. However, we are not expecting an easy clash
against Nepal.”

“Nepal’s results in the (South Asian) Games speak for themselves and it
will be our toughest match in the Championship,” he added.

You inquire about the mood in the camp after a sterling 5-0 win over Sri
Lanka and Bembem Devi opined: “It was a deserving win but we should not get
carried away with the result. There are still two matches to be played and
we have to give our all in the remaining fixtures.”

“There is always room for improvement in Football and the win over Sri
Lanka gives us a boost in our morale after the draw against Maldives. We
hope to capitalize and build on the win.”

Though the Indian attack force have been able to dominate one-sided in the
two matches, Defender Manisa Panna believes that the match against Nepal
will be even and anybody can emerge victors.

“It does not matter what the statistics are. Football is seldom played on
statistics. Tomorrow will be a new day and both the Teams are capable
enough to beat the other,” Manisa maintained. “All we have to do is give
our cent percent on the pitch and hopefully grab a positive result.”

“Nepal are a very tough side and their Strikers are swift. We have to keep
a tab on their wingers.”

AIFF Media Team

[Goanet] 'Goan aunty' becomes a YouTube star (Nida Sayed, TNN)

'Goan aunty' becomes a YouTube star

Nida Sayed | TNN | Feb 10, 2016, 10.36 AM IST
786nidasa...@gmail.com

Panaji: We all have that one aunty who is quirky and encompasses just
about everything Goan. And even though the relationship may be more of
love-hate, her sussegad sassiness is what appeals the most. Portraying
the idiosyncrasies of the quintessential Goan aunty through hilarious
videos, Mumbai-based theatre artist Rozzlin Pereira, transforms
herself into a senior citizen from Bandra's Goan community, launching
one adventure after another on YouTube every Monday.

Pereira worked on the character of Aunty Maggy when she performed in a
play called 'He Says She Says' a few years ago, where the character
had a minuscule role. She incorporated mannerisms from different
aunties she has known over the years to build its personality.

"The walk, talking with a slight tilt of her head as she looks at you
from above the rim of her glasses, and hand gestures are things I
found quirky and quite endearing in these aunties. It gave them their
unique edge," said Pereira.

After two years, Aunty Maggy finally took to social media and emerged
as a popular household favourite as she began to give her take on
social issues, deal with situations like a bad-ass senior citizen and
even adapt to new ideas. In doing this, she broke two stereotypes:
one, of not adhering to the saas-bahu norm to win the older audiences,
and two, of portraying a middle-aged Goan character in a comedy scene
usually dominated by males.

"It's true that comedy in India is generally associated with men and
there aren't nearly as many female comics. A video with a hot girl on
the thumbnail is likely to get a lot of curious viewers than one with
an old, fat, wrinkled, quirky aunty. So it is not going to grab
attention from new viewers easily," Pereira said.

But, in the six months that she has been around, Aunty Maggy's
character has clicked with the Goan audience and beyond.

Her fans from Goa and beyond always look forward to Mondays to see
what the granny is up to next. Bandra-based, Chantelle Fernandes,
said, "Aunty Maggy truly describes our little hometown, Bandra. She's
one of the typical Bandra buggers and never fails to put a smile on
our faces."

Neville Rodrigues, a doctoral student at University of Canterbury,
Christchurch, New Zealand told TOI, "There is not much of Goan
influence where I live so the 'character' of the Goan catholic Aunty
is slowly fading. I'm glad someone like Rozzlin has chosen to
immortalise our Goan aunties on Youtube. She is brilliant at what she
does."

About her Goan roots, she says, "While I was born and brought up in
Mumbai, my parents are Goan and in every way, from my taste buds to my
Susegaad tendencies, I am Goan."

Going on to define the unique qualities that define 'Goanness', she
says Goans respect relationships over ambitious materialism. "If we
feel loved, appreciated and respected, we go out of our way to help
and form a bond for life. We're content with what we have and while
sometimes that can be perceived as lack of ambition, we actually are
happy with the things that matter most in life. Aunty Maggy is just
like that. She speaks her mind, goes about her daily chores, doesn't
desire the high life, loves her family much as she grumbles about
them, makes friends with everyone and at the core of it all is a warm
simple good human being."

Since she represents the naivete of the older generation while also
keeping up with the modern age, viewers of both generations have grown
to like her. This is evident by the videos that are presently doing
the rounds on Facebook and WhatsApp. Most of her videos have up to 5k
views, some even going up to 10k views. "Keeping it topical and
inclusive, and bringing in variety brings in a diverse audience," she
adds.

*INDIA U-23 ROMP INTO SEMI-FINALS*

*AIFF Media Team*

*NEW DELHI:* The Indian U-23 National Team romped into the semi-finals of
the 12th South Asian Games as the ‘Men in Blue’ defeated Maldives 3-2 in
Guwahati on February 10, 2016.

An Udanta Singh brace and a Pritam Kotal strike ensured an Indian win in a
topsy-turvy match wherein Maldives equalized their deficit twice, before
finally surrendering to the Indian attacking prowess.

India took the lead as early as the 4th minute when Udanta Singh steered
clear off the Maldivian defence line and blasted his opportunity home to
give the ‘Men in Blue’ a solitary goal lead.

Three minutes later, Udanta Singh once again burst onto goal and in an
attempt to score his second of the match, he hoofed the shot wide, as the
attacking opportunity went abegging. In the 9th minute, Maldives equalized
their deficit against the run of play to make the score-line 1-1.

Not to be deterred, the Indian contingent took the charge of the match once
again as Pritam Kotal’s thunderous header in the 11th minute ended in the
back of the net to give the ‘Men in Blue’ a 2-1 lead.

With India having the lion’s share of possession, opportunities to extend
their lead came in plenty. In the 31st minute, Udanta Singh dashed onto a
vacant left flank, however the Bengaluru FC forward slipped while positing
himself for the final shot. Nine minutes later, it was Jerry tried to
extend India’s lead, but his shot deflected off the Maldivian defence line.

In the 42nd minute, Maldives equalized their deficit as both Teams went
into the tunnel on level pegging as the scoreline read 2-2.

The ‘Men in Blue’ once again surged into lead in the 59th minute through
Udanta Singh, who slotted his opportunity cheekily past the Maldivian
custodian to make the scoreline read 3-2 in India’s favour.

Shortly after, Head Coach Lee Johnson shuffled his pack and introduced
Lallianzuala in place of Jayesh Rane. The Indian contingent kept possession
and pushed to extend their lead by two. In the 87th minute, Germanpreet’s
rasping shot, following a corner kick, was saved by the Maldivian custodian.

Despite the Maldivian attack force pressed for the equalizer, the Indian
defence line kept them at bay by diffusing the attacks with sheer acumen,
as the full-time scoreline read 3-2 in India’s favour.

*India XI against Maldives:* T.P Rehenesh (GK); Pritam Kotal, Bikramjit
Singh, Salam Ranjan Singh, Narayan Das (C); Udanta Singh, Rowlin Borges,
Germanpreet Singh, Jayesh Rane (74’ - Lallianzuala), Jerry, Sumeet Passi
(81’ – Halicharan Narzary)
*-* *MR. PRAFUL PATEL CONGRATULATES AIFF ELITE ACADEMY BOYS*

*AIFF Media Team*

All India Football Federation President Mr. Praful Patel congratulated the
AIFF Elite Academy Players and Staff for their sterling performance in the
recently concluded U-18 I-League.

The AIFF Academy boys stayed unbeaten all throughout the Championship as
they emerged Champions accounting for Tata Football Academy 2-0 in the
final held at the Howrah Stadium, Howrah, Kolkata on Wednesday (February
10, 2016).

Applauding the achievement of the Academy boys, Mr Patel said: “The Academy
Programme which we started in 2012 is beginning to pay off and the way
these boys played is a clear indication of how a structured Youth
Development Programme can raise the bar.”

“These boys consistently defeated the opposition in a convincing manner and
I hope other Clubs learn from this and create a structured Youth
Development Programme including Academies.”

This is the second consecutive time the AIFF Academy boys lift the title,
having won it the previous year.

AIFF General Secretary Mr. Kushal Das also lauded the performance of the
boys. “The boys have been a part of the AIFF Academy Programme since 2013.
It was this batch (1998 born) who had won many a heart with their
possessional Football in the AFC 2014 AFC Qualifiers in Kuwait. We are
proud of them,” he told www.the-aiff.com.

“Congratulations to all the boys and staff. Well done.”

[Goanet] A PANCHANAMA OF BJP’s FOUR YEARS IN OFFICE

2016-02-10 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Election promises cannot be like China-make goods which come neither with a
guarantee nor warranty. As the BJP in Goa will soon complete four years in
office it is time that we, the people, audit its performance.

This government has to be assessed on the ‘Goa Vision Document 2012-2017’,
released by the Party in the run-up to the March 2012 Assembly elections
and its acts and deeds over the last four years in Power with a never
ending string of U Turns and the reneged promises. On having classified the
Palm as Grass, less said the better.

On March 9th 2012 Manohar Parrikar took over as Chief Minister by burdening
the State exchequer with those Rs.11 lakhs unnecessarily squandered on that
pompous swearing-in ceremony on SAG grounds at Campal rather than the
customary modest one at Raj Bhavan. And were the best and brilliant from
amongst his MLAs chosen as Ministers?

In its ‘Vision Document’ the BJP promised that Annual Performance Reports
of every government department would be prepared and publicized. This has
not happened. Also promised was participatory governance at village level
as envisaged in the 73rd and 74th amendments, which too, has not seen the
light of the day. Promised was a new Agricultural policy to make
agriculture a more rewarding effort but all that we witness today is the
continued sight of fields and hills being converted to concrete jungles. We
were assured a new regional plan keeping in mind Goa’s identity, but there
is no plausible progress in that direction while a selected coterie of
builders are having a field day with constructions mushrooming everywhere
without a provision for basic infrastructure of electricity, water,
parking, sewage and garbage disposal.

To ensure regular, uninterrupted power supply the BJP had promised that the
whole of Goa would have underground cabling in five years and that the
State would be plastic-free in three years which has also not happened. It
is almost four years and the promise that a garbage management system would
be in place in 18 months is still a distant dream. The government has
miserably failed in its promise of 12 hours-a-day uninterrupted drinking
water within two years. Also not appointed is the promised Minority
commission. Contrary to the 2012 assurance, the six-lane Zuari Bridge was
not a priority. Let the government enlighten us as to how many Non-Resident
Goans (NRGs) it has encouraged and in what manner, for Goa’s development,
as promised in that Vision document. The BJP has only played to the gallery
on the issue of Special Status but has done nothing to control the alarming
and unacceptable levels of migration into Goa.

We were assured that in three months garbage strewn along the roads would
be cleared. Apart from a mere cosmetic exercise on some roads, the garbage
situation statewide has instead turned critical with even the beach
cleaning contract being a multi-crore scam. The BJP has not had the spine
to even deliver on its promise of banning plastic bags.

Escalating level of crime is a matter of grave concern while political
interference in police functioning is turning Goa into a lawless State. The
promise to get rid of the Casinos from the River Mandovi was another joke.

The BJP had promised that Professionals and not Politicians would head
Corporations and other bodies but to our utter dismay, all the Corporations
have been loaded with political cronies, some of whom carry woefully
tainted.

Various schemes launched to pay doles and build vote banks are in bad
taste. Welfare measures cannot be treated as gifts of the ruling party but
have to meet the needs of the deserving. Even on the Medium of Instruction
(MOI) issue there has been an oscillating volte face.

While in the Opposition the BJP had always vociferously criticized the
wasteful expenditure of Ministers and MLAs on unnecessary travel,
especially the foreign junkets, but over the last four years the current
Ministers and MLAs have been jetting around the world recklessly, while
draining an already depleted the exchequer.

With so much hype on e-governance, Goa’s bureaucracy is bloating by the
day. Despite the current financial crisis, the BJP has been s hiring
thousands more to accommodate his party cadres. One of the first decisions
by the BJP on taking over office in March 2012 was to hike the fees of the
Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni from Rs five lakhs to a whopping eight
lakhs a month. Despite the hike Atmaram Nadkarni has continued to be the
legal Messiah of the Mining Barons, Casino Lobby and the Builders.

In his first budget speech in 2012 the then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar
had assured that every Department would implement e-governance within 18
months. Sadly, most government websites are dysfunctional or remain not
updated for months. The ‘*aam aadmi*’ is now paying much more for every
government service. Even the fee for registering a Power of Attorney which
was earlier Rs.50/-, shot up to Rs.500/-.

Goa is now on terrorist hit list. It makes sense for it is a International
tourist destination and security is not watertight we understand. The
hotels have to demand photo identity as a matter of regulation to account
all those, who visit the state .In the past such criminals and dubious
individual with shady character have been detected taking refuge in Goa and
easily merging with local environment. It is difficult to spot anyone
considering the migration to Goa. It is doubtful whether the hotels are
strictly following in maintaining the records of visitors and whether the
police authorities routinely verify the same. Since public hotels, lodges,
guest houses and railway rest rooms are duty bound t follow the directions,
the suspected individuals with evil designs and intentions seek place in
private accommodation in cities and villages, whereby little attention is
aroused

It is the Municipalities, and Panchayats , which can monitor effectively
such residences on hire. The registration of tourist, guest must regularly
and compulsorily, at all times maintain and submit to the police the
requisite forms with photo identity, finger prints, or photos easily taken
now a days This will enable the authorities to keep a tab on all entrants
to the state., Any dereliction of orders must be dealt very strictly to set
an example in strict compliance, It will also benefit the local bodies to
collect one months rent ,as tax revenue envisaged in the rules

[Goanet] CARANZALEM WATER LINE STILL CONTAMINATED

2016-02-10 Thread Stephen Dias
-
- -WHAT PEOPLE EXPECT FROM CCP and PWD

In continuation with what Navhind Times reported, I would like to cite an
important issue which is alarming people residing at Caranzalem.
I am everyday in touch with the ongoing work at Caranzalem by PWD workers
since beginning. The so called analysts from PWD are trying to check the
water tap connection everyday where the sewage has already entered into the
domestic drinking pipes.
Lots has been said by local papers about it and also this matter has
reached to Raj Bhavan for help but so far people are still keeping their
fingers crossed for the clean water. I see everyday each household families
supervising their work waiting for the clean drinking water. Apparently I
was told that the sewage was discharged by certain residents into the
gutter which made these old pipeline to corrode and thus sewage is entered
in their pipe holes, resulting contamination of water line.
PWD officials are trying to help them but of no success yet. What they
have now started doing is connecting from the old pipe line, to the
larger diameter new pipe which was running parallel to it and perhaps each
householder expect to get clean water soon. This work is going on nearly a
month, and one by one each household already been provided tapping
connection. This will surely take time but I am afraid that this new
connection might also get contaminated because the old pipe were not been
flushed well. The PWD work is given to their contractor who is carrying out
the work as per the PWD instructions.
CCP and Health authorities together must investigate the cause of this
contamination by inspecting each household to know whether they have
provision of soak pit or sewage chambers and punish those who have released
and releasing sewage into the gutters. I was told by the residents that
since there is no unity among themselves the situation is aggravated day by
day as everybody feels that their sewage needs to be discharged into the
storm water drainage/gutter as some of them do not have sewage tank
reservoir.

What people expect from ccp

PANAJ
Though political stalwarts have found a place in Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP), Congress-backed as well as Atanasio alias Babush Monserrate-backed
panels, people in city do not expect much from the new council as most of
the CCP wards are bereft of basic amenities.
Election to 30 wards in CCP jurisdiction is scheduled to be held on March
6. Most of the residents interviewed by this paper in a random survey
revealed that they are unhappy with the functioning of the CCP.
A resident said that most CCP works have only remained on paper and the
city has not seen development of roads and missing road-links have not been
provided. He also said that during the present council, no development of
roadside gutters, cleaning and maintenance was done during monsoons and
pedestrian way or walk-able footpaths are still unfriendly for the
physically-challenged.
Maintaining of existing fresh water wells, collection and disposal of
garbage in systematic manner and cleaning the filth from the fish market
and elevating it to the position of hygienic level seem to be a distant
dream, he said.
Efforts to de-silt St Inez nullah and Rua de Ourem creek appears to be
getting delayed and CCP’s plan to provide ambulances for the needy and
declaring houses and buildings which are in a dilapidated condition unsafe
has not yet seen the light of the day.
CCP has failed on creation of adequate parking space, maintaining gardens,
utilising open spaces and recreation parks but the return of Manohar
Parrikar as chief minister had witnessed the cleanliness of the city for
few days after hiring new brooms for sweepers. Rosa de Maria Fernandes and
Delcy D’Sa maintained that instead of solving the problems of public, CCP
is creating problems for them by not cleaning the gutters despite several
reminders. The duo said that corporators are interested in only cleaning
their gardens and areas in their neighbourhood.
Another resident Ayesha Shaikh said that still city dwellers continue to
reel under same old-fashioned haphazardly-maintained gutters and the funds
which come from the Centre for development remain unutilised adding,
“People want to see Panaji mosquito-free or malaria free.”
Manuel Pires informs, “The corporation collects money from shopkeepers but
never comes to collect garbage as a result it litters on the footpaths and
spreads over the roads and gives rise to filth. Only saving grace is the
rag pickers who come t
