[Goanet] GOA CIC PRASHANT TENDOLKAR BOOKED FOR ILLEGALLY USING RED BEACON

2016-02-11 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Officials of the Transport Department today booked and issued a challan to
Goa’s Chief Information Commissioner Prashant Prabhu Tendolkar for
illegally using a red beacon on his official vehicle GA-07-G-.

Officials of the Panaji Enforcement wing of the Transport Department led by
Motor Vehicles Inspector Prakash Ambre today swung into action and after
finding Tendolkar’s official vehicle parked below the office of the State
Information Commission booked it under Section 108 of the Motor Vehicles
Act.

The action followed a directive issued by Deputy Director of Transport
Prakash Azavedo last evening directing Transport department officials
across Goa to detect the said vehicle for using the red beacon illegally
and to take action as per the provisions of law.

On 9th Feb filed a complaint was filed against Goa’s Chief Information
Commissioner Prashant Prabhu Tendolkar for illegally and blatantly using a
red beacon on his official vehicle GA-07-G- in clear defiance of law
and amounting to a gross contempt of the Supreme Court’s order.

In the complaint jointly addressed to the Chief Secretary, Director General
of Police and the Director of Transport, it was pointed out that the
Supreme Court has flagged the red card over the blatant misuse of the red
beacon.

It was further pointed out that in accordance with the Supreme Court order
the Goa Government by a notification issued on 3rd July 2014 notified the
list of persons entitled to use the red beacon on their official vehicle
and that as per that notification only allowed to use the red beacon are
the Governor, Chief Minister and Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Chief
Justice and Judges of the High Court, Leader of Opposition, Advocate
General and the Chief Secretary.

Prashant Tendolkar in clear defiance of law and in gross contempt of the
Supreme Court’s order was illegally using the red beacon. The law
enforcement officers though fully aware of this blatant violation were not
taking action against Prashant Tendolkar just because he is politically
well connected.

Prashant Prabhu Tendolkar has lost all moral authority to continue as the
Goa’s Chief Information Commissioner after having knowingly and
intentionally violated the law and having been caught in contempt of the
Supreme Court order on misuse of the red beacon.

[Goanet] AIFF REPORT: INDIAN WOMEN HELD TO A GOALLESS DRAW BY NEPAL

2016-02-11 Thread AIFF Media
Dear colleagues,

Please find below the match report of Indian Women’s 0-0 draw against

*INDIAN WOMEN HELD TO A GOALLESS DRAW BY NEPAL*

*AIFF Media Team*

*NEW DELHI:* The Indian Senior Women’s National Team were held to a 0-0
draw by Nepal in the ongoing 12th South Asian Games at the Jawaharlal Nehru
Stadium in Shillong, Meghalaya on February 11, 2016.

Echoes of the draw against Maldives resurfaced as the Indian Women, despite
dominating the match, failed to convert their chances, as an inspired
performance by Nepal held them to a goalless stalemate.

In what was a cagey first half wherein both Team jostled for possession,
India were unable to convert their goal scoring opportunities that came in
plenty. In the first minute itself, Grace burst onto a vacant left flank
and positioned herself for the shot. Grace’s rasping shot however got
thwarted by the Nepali defence line.

Five minute later, Kamala Devi teed up an onrushing Grace in the 18 yard
box, but the latter shot wide of the goal as another attacking opportunity
went abegging.

With India committing bodies in attack for an early opening, Nepal played
counter-attacking Football and in the 20th minute, Goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan
made an easy save off a Nepali counter attack.

In the 33rd minute, Kamala’s delicious cross found Grace clear of the
defensive mix in the 18 yard box. In an attempt to shoot, Grace however
lost her footing and slipped as Nepal survived another Indian attack.

Six minutes later, Bembem Devi found Kamala Devi with a delightful through
ball clear onto goal. However Kamala could not do justice to her
opportunity as her weak shot was saved easily by the Nepali custodian.

The ‘Women in Blue’ tried to cut through the Nepali defence line in an
attempt to garner dividends, however to no avail, as both Team went into
the tunnel on level pegging as the score-line read 0-0.

Changing over and the Indian women almost took the lead in the 53rd minute
when Bala Devi’s rocket-of-a-shot from outside of the box flew whiskers
over the crossbar.

Albeit the Indian Women pinned Nepal in their own half and had the lion’s
share of possession, finishing touches off splendid Indian attacks, were
still amiss.

In the 55th minute, substitute Sanju released Bala Devi onto the right
flank. In an attempt to cut inside from the flank, Bala ran into defensive
traffic as the attack went abegging.

Shortly after, Kamala Devi was released onto goal following an accurate
Bembem Devi through ball, however with the goal at her mercy, Kamala failed
to test the Nepali custodian.

To disrupt Indian attacks, Nepal flooded bodies in defence and in the
71st minute,
Nepal almost took the lead when a moment of complacency from the Indian
defence line, led to a Nepali shot which rattled the post.

In the 79th minute, Sasmita Malik’s shot flew inches wide of the goal after
Premi Devi released her onto goal. Five minute later, Bala Devi got the
best chance of the match as she was clear of the defensive mix in the 18
yard box following a Sasmita cross. However Bala Devi failed to head the
ball home from hand-shaking distance as the attacking move went without
dividends.

The Indian Women tried to breach the Nepali defence, but failed, as the
full-time score-line read 0-0. The Indian Women clash swords against
Bangladesh next on February 13, 2016 in their final encounter of the Group
Stages of the South Asian Games.

*India starting XI against Nepal:* Aditi Chauhan (GK); Umapati Devi,
Ashalata Devi, Manisa Panna, Supriya Routray; Bembem Devi (C), Premi Devi,
Dangmei Grace (38’ – Bala Devi), Sasmita Malik, Kamala Devi (85’ – Pyari
Xaxa), Prameshwori Devi (52’ – Sanju)

Re: [Goanet] CARANZALEM WATER LINE STILL CONTAMINATED

2016-02-11 Thread Vivian A. DSouza
This whole episode is so sickening and stinking - quite literally.  I am
surprised that there is not much of a stink in the newspapers and other media.
Even if the problem is "corrected", the fact that the water lines were at one
time contaminated wtih sewage gives me the creeps.  I would want to run away
from those homes.  How can one ever use the water even if the lines are cleaned
and disinfected ?  I would want new lines coming from a clean source of water
to the house, and all the lines and taps in the house changed before I would
dare use water in the house.  As for people knowingly discharging the sewer
overflow into public drains, isnt that acriminal act of endangering peoples
lives ?  Does anybody care ???  I am glad that since I live in a rural area,
away from buildings, I can still use water from my 100+ years old open well.  I
have my well water tested ever year to make sure that the water is potable, and
still boil and filter the water before consuming. Saiba bogos !!!

-                          -WHAT PEOPLE EXPECT FROM CCP and PWD

In continuation with what Navhind Times reported, I would like to cite an
important issue which is alarming people residing at Caranzalem.
I am everyday in touch with the ongoing work at Caranzalem by PWD workers
since beginning.  The so called analysts from PWD  are trying to check the
water tap connection everyday where the sewage has already entered into the
domestic drinking pipes.
Lots has been said by local papers about it and also this matter has
reached to Raj Bhavan for help but so far people are still keeping their
fingers crossed for the clean water. I see everyday each household families
supervising their work waiting for the clean drinking water. Apparently I
was told that the sewage was discharged  by certain residents into the
gutter which made these old pipeline to corrode and thus sewage is entered
in their pipe holes,  resulting contamination of water line.
PWD officials are trying to help them but of no success yet. What they
have now started doing is connecting from the old pipe line,  to the
larger diameter new pipe which was running parallel to it and perhaps each
householder expect to get clean water soon.  This work is going on nearly a
month, and one by one each household already been provided tapping
connection. This will surely take time but I am afraid that this new
connection might  also get contaminated because the old pipe were not been
flushed well. The PWD work is given to their contractor who is carrying out
the work as per the PWD instructions.
CCP and Health authorities together must investigate the cause of this
contamination by inspecting each household to know whether they have
provision of soak pit or sewage chambers and punish those who have released
and releasing sewage into the gutters. I was told by the residents that
since there is no unity among themselves the situation is aggravated day by
day  as everybody feels that their  sewage needs to be discharged into the
storm water drainage/gutter as some of them do not have sewage tank
reservoir.

[Goanet] Press Release in support of Nestle Contract Workers Union

2016-02-11 Thread Sebastian
http://bharatmukti.blogspot.in/2016/02/press-release-in-support-of-nestle.html

11th February 2016

Bharat Mukti
Morcha (BMM) extends support and solidarity to Nestle Contract Workers Union
(NCWU) based at Maulingem, Bicholim. For the past few months BMM has been
interacting with NCWU ever since they shifted their agitation in Panjim. BMM is
concerned about targeting of Union Leadership in fabricated manner in order to
suppressed workers Union activities. BMM has identified that two of the
dedicated and talented leaders of the NCWU Anand B. Shirodkar and Sandesh Gawas
are placed on suspension. Workers had formed NCWU on 27/11/2012. Details of the
background and fantastic union activities are listed accessible from our blog
http://bharatmukti.blogspot.in/2015/12/how-contract-workers-at-nestle-bicholim.html?m=0.

Our
investigation has revealed that Nestle has 8 contractors that supply labour to
the factory in Maulingem. One of this S.P.Enterprises has suspended Anand B.
Shirodkar while another one M/s Harsh Security and Labour supply services has
suspended Sandesh Gawas. Though workers has filed complaint before labour
commissioner placing various issues for resolution on 24th June 2013
and number of hearings has gone by ever since. However refusal of the Nestle
management to co-operate by their presence has left the issue unresolved. Even
the requests from the Goa labour commissioners to remain present for the
hearings has not been honored by Nestle management citing the reasons that they
are not involved in master – servant relationship with the contract workers.
However involvement of Nestle is revealed from the fact that both the Union
leaders Anand B. Shirodker and Sandesh Gawas were placed on suspension on the
same date of 23/8/2013. One does not need rocket science to guess that this has
been done to prevent labour awakening and unionization, and spreading of Union
activities and not for cited reasons of criminal behavior and absenteeism from
work.

This is a
very sad reality of Goa’s industrialization. Innovative forms are deployed for
the purpose of labour exploitation with legal immunity for prosecution.
Contractors in collaboration with Nestle Company through these practices are
involved in the process of mutilation and disintegration disguised as
development.  BMM considers what is
happening to NCWU as symptomatic of industrial scenario of Goa – rampant labour
exploitation through contract labour with exploitation as a package. If Goa
Government labour Ministry cannot get Nestle to discussion table then it must
change
its name as Ministry of Slavery.

Dear Aires, bab,

What you said it is not a surprise to us. Surendra Furtado as CCP Mayor
was also using RED beacon for so many years inspite of SC orders and
nobody touched him and many more were also doing the same. Now this new
CIC using Red beacon has become a routine thing, who will stop him.? Wait
until new Government comes in power. Furtado also removed the beacon, once
he was out of power. That is the way people behave in Goa.
Building constructions approvals are given by illegal ways, with the
condition that some flats must come to them free. And many things happens
in Goa,. Who will teach them to behave . Even they fool the GOD. All
parties are corrupt. Let us pray to have clean and good candidates in

[Goanet] Karachi's Catholic music scene loses its Freddie Mercury (Ali Raj, tribune.com.pk)

2016-02-11 Thread Goanet Reader
By Ali Raj
February 10, 2016

KARACHI: If you were a frequent visitor of the many upscale,
five-star hotels or a mere observer of the section of
Karachi's underground music scene that derives from the
church choir culture and parish bands, you must have come
across this frail, cheerful vocalist called Melvin Clements.

He was a rockstar of his community; many of his
friends compared his stage presence to that of
Freddie Mercury. He had been around for a while,
playing for a band called Kashish. Classical rock
and jazz was their thing. Church events, school
bake sales and weddings were his arenas. He would
leave the crowd in frenzy; many Christian musicians
  aspired to be like him.

Few people knew that in opposition to his outer appearance,
leukaemia was eating away at him on the inside. The
35-year-old was on a ventilator at the Aga Khan University
Hospital and despite starting to recover, he lost the battle
under the dreadful machine on Tuesday morning. His friends
and family are finding a hard time to come to terms with the
fact that their Freddie Mercury is no more.

The baritone legend

Melv, as he was lovingly called, did not hail from a
prosperous family. Lately, sustenance had become a major
concern for him and he would play at Karachi's Pearl
Continental hotel and Marriott hotel frequently. The irony of
times was such that Kashish itself began to lose what its
name signifies, pull or attraction. Band members became
associated with singer-songwriter Zoe Viccaji to keep the
stove burning.

Melv's friend, drummer Kurt Menezes says, "Melv’s charisma
could rival that of Ali Azmat [the Pakistani rock icon] on
stage."

Sounds of Kolachi front man Ahsan Bari knew Melv for a good
12 years. "I used to sing for Gravity back then. He was the
very animated sort. He would be literally jumping around all
the time," he says. The singer-songwriter says he couldn't
believe when he first found out about Melv's health. "Given
his outlook, no one could tell what was going on inside him."

An underground scene maven himself, Bari is of the view that
he never saw a better crowd-puller than Melv. "I haven't in
my life seen a better live performer. Already there are very
few here who can sing in English with ease and even out of
those, only a fraction of them really are good enough."

Bari says it is a dilemma that the best musicians
in the country are frustrated. "There are literally
no platforms, no labels... what can one say?"

This is a concern that resonates with almost every second
musician you go to. Fuzon guitarist Shallum Xavier goes on to
state that this dilemma is very Pakistani at its core.

"It's not just in music. It's everywhere. When
you're alive, nobody cares. When you die, they all
lament," he says. Melv was like a younger brother
to Xavier and the two have been spotted together on
stage a number of times. "When I met him two weeks
ago, he was in high spirits... Melv was always like
that, you see," he pauses for a moment. "Being
talented in Pakistan is not enough. You need a
push. People like us are an exception ... our
  mainstream is quite complicated."

Himself a product of the Karachi's Catholic music scene,
Xavier says this is not just about the Melv who was consumed
by leukaemia. "It is about all the Melvs and Veronicas and
Jasons who are struggling ... playing for church bands,
entertaining their own circles. Their talent too merits
recognition like the talent of people from other
communities."

Another of Xavier's contemporary and brother-in-arm, drummer
Gumby looks at it slightly differently. "Today, being good is
not enough. One should know how to present oneself.
Management, promotion, networking are all equally important,"
he maintains. He channelises the neglect that many of Melv's
close friends pointed out by saying, "It is indeed
unfortunate. He was a very sweet child and extremely
passionate about what he did. I don't think anyone is to
blame for a lack of recognition for him... things are like
this only here."

[Goanet] PEACOK AND COCONUT ISSUE ON CARDS!

2016-02-11 Thread Stephen Dias
---Dear Sujay Gupta, Herald Editor,

It is indeed an unpleasant news to read in today's ( 12TH FEB 2016) in
Herald, title " GOA AGRICULTURE MINISTER ( Ramesh Tawadkar) PLANS TO
DECLARE NATIONAL BIRD ( Peacok) AS NUISANCE ANIMAL"-
(BJP always with some something to other). Earlier Arlekar
( Environment Minister) said about COCONUT is not a TREE but a GRASS- and
now the Agriculture Minister says that the Peacok should be removed from
the list of National bird as it is a nuisance.
What will happen if people say that these Ministers should be removed as
they are NUISANCE for the public?-

> This whole episode is so sickening and stinking - quite literally. ?I am
surprised that there is not much of a stink in the newspapers and other
media. ?Even if the problem is "corrected", the fact that the water lines
were at one time contaminated wtih sewage gives me the creeps. ?I would
want to run away from those homes. ?How can one ever use the water even if
the lines are cleaned and disinfected ? ?I would want new lines coming from
a clean source of water to the house, and all the lines and taps in the
house changed before I would dare use water in the house. ?As for people
knowingly discharging the sewer overflow into public drains, isnt that
acriminal act of endangering peoples lives ? ?Does anybody care ??? ?I am
glad that since I live in a rural area, away from buildings, I can still
use water from my 100+ years old open well. ?I have my well water tested
ever year to make sure that the water is potable, and still boil and filter
the water before consuming. Saiba bo
