[Goanet] Nachom ya Kumpasar - Ripping off Toronto Goans?
Tickets were sold to anxious moviegoers priced at 20 and 25 per ticket for a forthcoming April 10 (Sunday) show in Toronto. We now read through Goanet that in California the ticket is priced at 12 which is the standard movie ticket price in this part of the world. The extra 1.60 fee in California would be the ticket selling company's charge. In Toronto this fee was avoided by direct selling through volunteers. In Toronto it appears the local Goan Overseas Assiciation (G.O.A.) has some connection with the showing Why the rip-off from Toronto Goans? Who is responsible for this. The difference is not going to break anyone's bank account, but equally, no one likes to be taken for a ride. Roland Francis Toronto

[Goanet] GIMMICKS STARTED FOR ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS
- BJP PARTY NEW STRATEGY? In today’s news headlines in one section of the Press, BJP announces a new strategy for the BJP voters in Goa. The party now wants its flag atop their houses. Some 1.2 lakh flags are already dispatched to all parts of Goa. This strategy is because some of the senior leaders feel that people claim to be BJP supporters, well wishers and voters, but never come out in open. Although voters could be from the BJP, there will be resentment in their minds as other parties will soon target them as supporters of BJP. In my opinion, I feel this strategy will not work and they may not accept this directive to fix the flag on their houses since these days the political strategy is to gain votes only by bribing and publicly committing to one party will dry up income sources from other parties. I contacted some people in Dona Paula area for their reaction and they said that they may fix all kinds of flags on their houses, whether Congress, BJP, AAP, UGDP, Goa Suraj, or even Goa Forward if they approach, so that nobody can pint point which party they belong to. This way they can be satisfied with all parties. Yesterday (5th April 2016), I have met a group of volunteers from AAP near the Caranzalem petrol pump and they asked me to support their party. A cap was given to me to wear and I suggested that these kind of caps could be issued to many people with requests that they wear them when they go all over the city on their motorcycles. This is another kind of strategy to canvas or show solidarity for that particular party. How many people will be ready to do that? In another incident which took place at Aivao village when two parties came to their houses for their support during the Municipality election recently, one from BJP and another from Babush Panel, some women from this village told them that they know to come always before the election for votes and later they do not care for them. What was more important for them is to repair the internal road of the village as their children find it difficulty to walk as it is in very bad condition. The answer came from one of the volunteers that ‘she is talking too much’. Later he said that their party will surely repair this road once the election is over which is the standard reply given by all the parties when they come for asking votes. This rude behaviour to potential voters speaks volumes about the contempt that the typical political volunteer has for voters. While asking voters to publicly demonstrate their loyalty, parties should do their bit and try to win voters with concrete actions, as that will result in true supporters who will not need to be forced to declare allegiance. In the 1960s Lawry a young Goan musician playing in the nightclubs of Bombay, returns to Goa to find a singer for his band where he meets Dona. While Lawry moulds the impressionable young Dona into a talented singer, they fall deeply in love. The emotional roller coaster of a love story is destined to tragedy. The film weaves its lilting narrative through 20 timeless songs based on actual events this quasi-biographical film is a tribute to one of Goa’s greatest, yet barely acknowledged legacy - its musicians, who once upon a time set the jazz clubs of Bombay on fire and actually shaped the music of Bollywood cinema. [Goanet] Shift IPL to solve drought in Maharashtra
IPL SHIFTING CAN TIDE OVER DROUGHT The Court is finally to pronounce its judgment whether or not to shift IPL out of Mumbai The Politicians are least bothered about the priorities of the poor, For them entertainment, fun and revenue is not expendable The argument that the amount of water needed to maintain the pitches and ground could help tide over drinking water shortages and to some extent mitigate the sufferings of farmers and contain migration from severe drought hit areas. IPl is seen as the necessary evil at the moment. The constitutional provision and court pronouncements as water being included into right to life, the political , insensitive class could care less .There are other states, where drought is endemic and shifting IPL out of Mumbai may not address the large issue of drought in the rest of the country The condition of drought in Maharashtra has been a long time issue, which the successive Govt. have failed to address Will highlighting the issue with highly emotive issue of IPL in Mumbai will be an effective measure to reduce drought situation in Mumbai? Some are of the opinion that the popular sports meet can help raise funds to combat drought in Maharashtra by a specific cess or involve the cricket stars to campaign for resource mobilization during and after the IPL is over. Some wealthy enthusiasts who have bought the tickets are all those may be inconvenienced and also lose, But they are in a position to travel to nay corner of the Country and stil get the thrills from watching on High definition and large screens It is not understandable how this water being saved will be distributed to the effective populace There is no planned water management, preservation, conservation, wastages by leakages and curtailment of industries that are water guzzlers. There has to be rain water harvesting systems to stop draining into the sea. Checks to stop water contamination and differential tariffs to dissuade wastage and judicious use of this precious live saving resource Over the years this planning has not happened in the way it should be desired and the problem will continue to fester with or without IPL. Long term planning alone will solve the issue Nelson Lopes Chinchinim
