[Goanet] Portuguese Leader's Visit to Goa

I am surprised that other than Pamela's article on the Portuguese leader's 
visit to Goa, there were no other posts on this topic on Goanet from native 
Goans.  

The chronic complainers of Goa and Goans loosing their identity (read 
Indo-Portuguese identity) were silent  - likely they were all in a "gem-yetha" 
mode (feeling sleepy):=))

Of course the posts for some of the chronic complainers would have to be a 180 
degree turn.  Yet it may not be surprising.  There was very little to no 
excitement about BRICS meeting in Goa that brought umpteen heads of states to 
Goa in addition to the Big Five. 

Priceless and free publicity for Goa in Portugal and in Europe.  Most other 
international and national tourist destinations would spend millions for this 
kind of publicity.

In this age of political corrections and also in seeking votes duruing an
election campaigns parties appeal to their votebanks with such issue as
apologies for past deeds, especially those people who lived under
colonialism.
In Canada, the Trudeau apologized to the Indian community for the Kamagata
Maru incident, where Indians,  mostly Sikhs travelled from Hong Kong to
Vancouver in a rented steamer, breaking the "continuous vovage" in the
immigration rules. The passengers were barred from stepping onto the
shores, and there was a stand-off  between them and the officials.
For the wrongs done to the indigenous communities, by which the native "red
Indians" are and who are now known as First Nations people, the government
released the finds of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The children
of these people were forcibly sent to government residential schools. Long
history, and one must read the report of the commission.
Political party or parties who want to capture Hindu votes want this drama
played out. What about the wrongs done to Goa's tribal communities,
considered to be the original inhabitants of the land?
Election time is often a hell-raising time, and Goa is now caught in the
messy battle. Reading the news, one cannot fathom the depth of this mess
and I wonder how the people of Goa will decide who to vote.

to observe the 50th anniversary of Goa's 1967
Opinion Poll.

The 1967 Opinion Poll is an important milestone
in the history of Post Liberation Goa and its outcome
has resulted in Goa's unique political identity in the
country, first as a Union Territory and then as a
full fledged State.

What were the social, cultural and economic factors
that led to the holding of the 1967 Opinion Poll ?

Was the outcome of the Opinion Poll right or wrong
in the context of Goa today ?

Was enough thought given to the survival of a Union
Territory and its eventual transition to become a small
state in the Indian Union ?

Do the proposals for a Greater Goa, Vishal Gomantak
or Goa today with Special Status deserve merit ?

In the context of Globalization & Liberalization does Goa
need to look at options of having its borders redrawn or
have a special territorial status in the country ?

Since Goa is being developed into a Tourism State are
there strong reasons why Goa should not follow the Hawaii,
Hongkong, Macau or Singapore model of administration ?
