[Goanet] Fw: IMPLEMENTATION OF AADHAR AND GST

2018-02-12 Thread John Eric Gomes
EASE OF LIVING A FAR CRY
The costs of living are shooting up in more ways than one! People are taxed
mentally, physically and monetarily to help government get its act together,
instead of the other way around! Besides the snags in finger print verification
and technical/ software glitches, there is now a 18% hike in GST for each
Aadhar update. Even for RTI and bank transactions there is GST, but not for
petrol. I was shocked to see bank charges on bank draft cancellation and re
issue due no fault of mine, with plus GST each time! Are customers in due
course to pay for recovering bank's NPAs? The government seems to slowly be
making everything a business transaction. Reportedly hospital admissiont
denied in the emergency ward due absence of Aadhar card and woman consequently
had to deliver in a cycle stand? Also reported starvation due non issue of
rations etc which are ground realities, stubbornly denied by the government
which insists no one is denied services due absense of card, since that
stipulation is claimed to be in the Aadhar Act itself! There is a lot of tension
and pains imposed on the senior citizens and the common man, especially the
poor and illiterate. The RTO says forms are not available and are to be
downloaded from their site. Less expense and trouble for government.Their
portals could be more user friendly if staff could help/ convey feedback. Is
this the way government claims to help in spreading ease of living? Law and
disorder in rapes, hate crimes, drugs, polarization etc. Inflation, costs of
living sky rocketing. These are facts and ground realities. We must not have a
government that lives in denial with a lot of slogans and dreams with more and
more government and less effective governance for the common citizen! The
middle class are badly effected and imagine the plight of the poor who will
have to rely on government doles!

[Goanet] First Sunday of Lent

2018-02-12 Thread Jude Botelho
13-Feb-2018     Dear Friend,
Children hate tests and detest exams. Few people like to be tested and
evaluations are not gladly welcomed. Yet we know a person’s worth only when
they have undergone tough trials. Athletes show their mettle when they are
tested in competition with the best. In the spiritual life we know how strong
or weak we are when we are tested by temptations. If we are never tempted or
tried we would never know our strengths and weaknesses. Tests are not meant to
make us fail but to strengthen us. Have a holy testing time this Lent! -Fr. Jude
Sun. Refl. 1st Sunday of Lent “God’s Kingdom is at hand! Repent and believe!”
18-Feb-2018Gen: 9: 8-15;          1 Peter 3: 18-22;          Mark 1: 12-15;
The first reading from Genesis reminds us that Noah alone was spared during the
flood. God made a promise, a covenant that man would not be destroyed by the
floodwaters and the sign of his covenant was the rainbow. God is faithful to
his promise and each time we see a rainbow, it should remind us of a God who is
faithful to His promise. All kinds of situations test us and there are times we
may falter and fail, we may be unfaithful to God, but God will not destroy us,
He is faithful to his promise, He will save us.

Is Jesus knocking?A paediatrician would plug his stethoscope into his little
patient’s ears to let them listen to their own heartbeats. Their eyes would
always light up in awe. He was taken aback one day when he placed the disk over
little Sylvia’s heart. “Listen” said the doctor. “What do you suppose that is?”
Sylvia listened carefully to the tap-tap-tapping in her chest and cried, “Is
that Jesus knocking?” During Lent Jesus is knocking at my heart so that I might
love like him and allow my heart to be opened to His. True, rendering,
repenting and re-turning must come from my heart. Only then will I understand
the reassurance of rainbows and the welcoming warmth of spring –in my
heart.Francis Gonsalves in ‘Sunday Seeds for Daily Deeds’
The Gospel reminded us that the spirit led Jesus to be tempted and he was in
the desert amidst wild beasts but at the same time angels were ministering unto
him. All through our life we are tempted and that in itself is not a bad thing.
It is how we deal with temptations that really matters. We are tempted to
compromise on values, to go by the popular majority, to do the easy or more
convenient thing rather than what is right and proper. While we may be
surrounded by evil forces we are also supported by God’s help. The wild beasts
and the angels will always be there in the desert experience. We too have to go
through periodic training periods of discipline and testing called Lent. We too
have to be ready to do battle with Satan and evil in this world. We consider it
criminal if a soldier is sent to war without basic training, or to send a
doctor into an operating theatre without adequate schooling and internship. Yet
we casually assume that we can fight evil in us and around us without taking
Lent seriously.
Vision QuestA young man in his mid-twenties works with the youth of his parish.
But that was not always his goal or ambition. He had been frittering away his
life, he said, living only for the present. A few years ago he accepted an
invitation to join a group of people going to the Virginia Mountains to make a
"Vision Quest." After a couple days of training in survival tactics and the
discipline of spiritual exercise, the participants were sent out individually
to spend four days by themselves in the mountainous wilderness. The young man
shared some of the events of those days with a group of people gathered to
reflect on today's Gospel. First, he said, there was the extraordinary quiet
and a lack of the usual distractions; no TV, radio, computers, video games,
phones, and the devices that have become part of our daily hectic lives. It
was, he said, so quiet. He began to hear sounds he might ordinarily have
missed: the breeze, songs of distant birds, his footsteps, insects and his own
breathing. He also began to hear his inner voice. Questions were being put to
him about his life. He found that being in the wilderness was a chance to do
some serious thinking for the first time in his adult years. A couple things he
saw in nature got him thinking. One day he came across a dead horse rotting in
a field and a few moments later he saw a fragile new-born doe. These
contrasting sights stirred questions in him about his basic life assumptions.
He realized, when he reflected on the sight of the dead horse, that he had been
investing his life in passing realities. The doe reminded him how fragile life
is, especially young life. He decided during those four days, to turn his life
around and dedicate himself to ministering to youth. He would quit his job;
accept a lower paying position to be a youth minister in his parish. We asked
if he had found being alone in the wilderness dangerous. "No," he said,

Right.

Very few survive cancer, or live even five years with it.
But a lot can be done, at least in India I feel. For the love of Brahma,
hospices at the very very very least.

The beer part has subtext to it, but one can only take issues at it on face
value. He said, does not care, Created an issue. There is more to it.

They use whatever to jostle you, people, dogs, coconut tress. In future it
will be pigs dashing through places of worship, prostitutes having to
reveal more, beard lengths, waxing with khadi thread, chappal days, lezim
for the masses, kho-kho for matrons, crosses to be painted in saffron,
missal as chakna in bars, and balls on toast. Besides, other cows in the

A Christian Keralite, Rear Admiral Philipose George Pynumoothil 52, has taken
charge as Flag Officer Naval Aviation making him the head honcho of the Naval
base at Dabolim, Goa.

From a military family, Adm. Pin joined as a naval helicopter pilot in 1986
after his NDA 67th course. His brother who was also a naval aviator died in an
accident in the previous year while his father a fighter pilot who became an
Air Marshal, died in 1987.

[Goanet] GOA’S TRUE SCUM-STERS AND SCAMSTERS

2018-02-12 Thread Aires Rodrigues
While the Supreme Court of India has been repeatedly highlighting the need
of ensuring morality in public life, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to
safeguard his own Chair has stooped to a very treacherous act by
high-handedly appointing the very tainted and controversial
Babush Monserrate as the Chairman of the newly created Greater Panaji
Planning and Development Authority (PDA).

This very politically motivated and skewed move by Manohar Parrikar is
devoid of any public interest. This needless PDA has been carved out to
solely reward Goa Forward and Babush Monserrate for his support to the
current ruling coalition and by giving him a lucrative avenue to further
loot and plunder.

Babush Monserrate in January 2005 was stripped of the Town & Country
Planning portfolio by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for having committed
large scale and rampant illegalities in conversion of land.

Later due to his very controversial Regional Plan 2011 which led to a huge
uproar and public outrage, Babush Monserrate in January 2007 was forced to
resign as Town & Country Planning Minister.

Babush Monserrate has also committed very serious offences involving moral
turpitude and stands charge sheeted by the CBI in the Panaji Police Station
storming case while the alleged rape case against him is also pending probe
before the Crime Branch.

Besides his deep rooted links with the land mafia, Babush Monserrate has
huge land banks within the jurisdiction of this newly Greater Panaji PDA
which includes Taleigao, Chimbel, St Cruz, Old Goa and
Curca-Bambolim-Talaulim. We will now have to sadly witness the accelerated
destruction and devastation of the remaining hills and fields in these
villages. Sorrowing lies our Goa.

"Surprisingly Melbourne is not on this list"

Comment:Melbourne is on the following list :
Many citiesworldwide have invested in large desalination plants to meet or
supplementtheir potable water needs by conversion of abundant seawater into
drinkingwater.Riyadh  in SaudiArabia  (274 milliongallons/day)Sorek  in Israel
(165 million gallons per day)San Diego inCalifornia (50 million gallons per

Australia hasdesalination plants in Perth, Sidney ,Wonthaggi-Victoriaabout 137
Km from Melbourne (145 million gallons/day)
At the last count reported by Google there were over 18 thousanddesalination
plants in the world producing over 23 billion gallons of drinkingwater per day
sufficient for about 300 million people. 14KW Hours of energy arerequired to
produce 1000 gallons of desalinated water. Some of the energyrequired could
come from solar conversions.
The desalinationprocess removes the minerals that we take for granted in the
fresh rain water supply.Required minerals can be metered back into the
desalinated drinking water so that the water meets the drinking water standards.

In Goa we are very fortunate to have abundant fresh water. Monsoon and
therivers !
However as the population increasesdramatically, perhaps a large desalination
plant may be needed to supplement theneeds in the dry season. Best Regards. E.

[Goanet] Nirmala Sitharaman: Pakistan will pay for this misadventure

2018-02-12 Thread Roland Francis
For far too long, India whether under US pressure or not, has been giving its
aggressive neighbour free rein to commit terrorist attacks on its soil.

Under the sponsorship of the Pakistan Army, hostile groups across the border
have become emboldened enough to attack divisional Police Stations, Army bases,
paramilitary camps a major metropolis and some time ago even the Indian
parliament.

The more India delays swift retribution in the form of a major counter-strike
like the Israelis recently undertook on Iranian and Syrian military targets,
the more Pakistan will solidify its thinking that India is afraid of their
‘first-strike’ nuclear policy.

The current Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has given reasons why he is
ready to call the Pakistan nuclear bluff. He is the first Army Chief to do so.

A good Defence Minister would take Rawat’s cue and bring around the Cabinet to
stand behind whatever action he has in mind. Unless Modi is a coward, fit only
to oversee attacks on defenceless minorities, he should be spearheading
Operation Vengeance.

Eventually the only recourse open to India to solve the Kashmiri
Pakistani-supported terrorist menace would be to act exactly like Israel. You
hit us once and we’ll immediately make you sorry you did it. No warning, no
dilly-dallying, the entire nation behind the government’s decision and the
Armed Forces’ action.

The Pakistani people may be hospitable and peaceful but there are enough
Islamic fanatics in their midst to drive the agenda for the rest of their
country while the peacemakers can only watch on helplessly. Fanatical Islamism
only understands the language of brute, merciless force.

Islamic terrorism can only be contained by the strong-armed tactics shown by
countries like the United States, Israel and Russia. China understands India’s
right to live in peace, but even if they choose for their own immediate
interests to support Pakistan in an armed confrontation, India can look to
Israel and Russia if the US decides to take a neutral position which it will
not do for long, when it sees Russia intervene.

In this whole scenario, India’s economic clout and the world’s dislike of
terrorism will play a positive role in the support that other countries give.

[Goanet] who owns copyright on opinion poll

2018-02-12 Thread Nelson Lopes
Who owns copy rights

It appears that there were 4 groups fighting for non merger. What a blunder
by omissions of individuals, who played stellar roles and are now in a
select gallery of recognition. They were by far not confined to the narrow
ideology of any group pre and post poll

Does it matter to express views for someone to be born before or after
historical events ? History is distorted by coloured visions of partial
and bias of individuals committed to their own goals and perspective .Just
because some one has documented the event, that its gospel truth and
sacrosanct History is like bones and interpretations that gives it flesh
,Such interpretations provide continuous scope and new perspectives .What
history books, and authors may be quoted which are considered to be
authentic and accepted without questioning in historical reporting of
Opinion polls.? Is the writer spreading the discordant view on true
opinion poll, seeking relevance to be treated as most reliable and
infallible person ?. It appears that opinions are retrieved from the
archives of decadent memory without any reference to books and authors.
Remember that many more persons were witness to the situation then, though
they have not written the events or just utter to be different and popular.
Those that have perused such historical events are definitely competent to
express their opinions .How the 4 disparate political groups coalesced
under one banner without a leader and a common platform is difficult to
fathom . It was indeed fact the Dr Jack was undisputed leader of the so
called coalition, if there was one,.The groups therefore fought with a
common cause and purpose and naturally the credit goes to the leader in
forefront, That merger can be credited to one individual is a fallacy
perpetuated spreading canards The other front leaders of merger are
eclipsed to suit the bias of the writer. To chide about birth dates is
the most hollow argument to be heard on views of merit and facts. I have
never heard any the individual arrogating exclusive knowledge of the
events as the sole author on the truth and history of opinion poll and
subject it to the critics. Giving press reports to confuse and derail the
popular thought does not qualify one to be and among counted great
respected historians .M ere expressions of opinion cannot confer the
title of a historian .There is no constitutional validity for the first and
only poll, defined as referendum by legal luminaries .God forgive, if the
opinion poll was lost there is never any legal remedy against such a move.
The validity was also legally challenged ,There was strong resentment
against the opinion poll not encompassing a separate state and language,
leaving open agitation once again, instead of settling more important
issues Rightly as history records fresh agitation for separate state and
language, hence there was significant difference of opinions among the non
mergerists

[Goanet] Goa needs good governance and not headline statements

2018-02-12 Thread Sandeep Heble
Not only is Vijay Sardesai's statement on Indian tourists in poor taste,
his sense of timing is even more poor. I am just back from Delhi where
Haryana has emerged as the number one State in the Khelo India Games. What
an irony! Mr. Vijay Sardesai is a Minister now and he must act and speak
responsibly. Not make statements which can have detrimental effects on
Tourism which is a major Industry in Goa and so many people make their
livelihoods out of it. What exactly does he mean when he says Goa needs
only high-end tourists? That only the rich should come to Goa and the rest
should stay out? While the rich will cater mostly to the Five star hotel
lobby, it is the rest which will benefit the locals in the industry. Has
Mr. Vijay been elected by only the high-end citizens of Fatorda and not the
rest? Mr. Sardesai must not make statements which are demeaning to a
certain class of people. Goa needs tourists of both kinds. Many lakhs of
tourists come to Goa, which is a destination known for its good
hospitality. Not everybody behaves badly. Perhaps a miniscule percentage
will, but a majority of them don’t. But when a responsible Minister makes a
statement like this, it creates a general distrust between the locals and
the outsiders at large which is unfair. Remember the rickshawallas in
Mumbai being beaten up while the Government did its own deals with the
Ambanis in Mumbai? Whenever Indians travel abroad, they will always act
responsibly. They will not dare to throw litter on the streets of London or
Singapore. Why? Because they know they will be penalised severely. Spare
the rod and spoil the child. Mr. Sardesai is a powerful Cabinet Minister
and he together with his other colleagues are now collectively responsible
for giving us good administration. If some sections of the tourists are
behaving irresponsibly and do not demonstrate good civic sense, it is
because the administration is allowing them to. Why not haul up the Police
force to ensure there is better Policing on the beaches? Why not impose
hefty fines on those who litter our streets and beaches or cook in the
open? Making headline statements will not solve our problems. Now that this
issue has come to the forefront, Vijay must let his actions speak louder
than words. Ensure through good governance measures that Goa remains clean
and beautiful.

[Goanet] Opinion

2018-02-12 Thread PAES

In my opinion:

1)  The “scum of the earth” remark was a bit toomuch.

Mr. Sardesai should have put a less vitriolic‘lipstick on the pig’.

2)  Mr. Parrikar need not be concerned about Goangirls drinking beer. He
should, instead, be concerned about his own remarksthat will now make them
drink more.
