[Goanet] Persecution of Christians & Sikhs in India

2018-03-07 Thread Mervyn Maciel
An item in GVUK today(Wednesday) read:

5 Mar: Hindustan Times. Britain will raise the issue of alleged persecution
of Christians and Sikhs in India during the April meeting of the
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London and Windsor,
following demands by MPs to take it up with Prime Minster Narendra Modi…
Martin Docherty-Hughes (Scottish National Party) and Fabian Hamilton
(Labour) raised the issue of alleged persecution of Christians; the former
recalled the ancient roots of Christianity in India, but mentioned reports
alleging that India was one of the most dangerous countries to practise
Christianity… Modi is scheduled to attend the CHOGM from April 16 to 20…

I take issue with the word "alleged". There are ample cases of *ACTUAL
persecution
of Christians in *
parts of India. A Report "Persecuted & Forgotten" by the Catholic
Charity(Aid to the Church in Need)
I've been working for as a volunteer for over 25 years, has ample evidence
of this.

Health Minister is supposed to look after the health of public in Goa.
Look at this picture some bad elements put fire near his bungalow at Dona
Paula just at the side of his compound wall. Probably he may not be or may
be aware of what is going on at his neighbourhood and this is not the first
time the fire in put .The flames were so high that people down the Bay View
could smell the fumes today on 7th March at 11 am. ( see the photo).
Environmentalists are also keeping mum because nothing works in Goa. We
have already witnessed several cases of cancer and the Manipal Hospital
receives number of cancer cases whether it is due to cell towers erected
around whole of Dona Paula or due to the fumes. Especially nowadays we are
more worried about the cancer cases which are on the rise. I suppose the
Health Minister VISWAJIT Rane will safeguard at least his residential area
. He must take immediate remedial steps with the concerned department of
Health or CCP to stop people dumping garbage and putting fire?

[Goanet] FIRE FOR GARBAGE DUMPED NEAR HEALTH MINISTER HOUSE AT DONA PAULA

2018-03-07 Thread Stephen Dias
WILL THE PRESS BRING THIS TO THE NOTICE OF PUBLIC TO SAFEGUARD THE PUBLIC?

Health Minister is supposed to look after the health of the public in Goa.
Look at this attached picture that some bad elements have put fire for the
garbage dumped near his bungalow at Dona Paula just at the side of his
compound wall. Probably he may not be or may be aware of what is going on
in his neighbourhood and this is not the first time the fire is put. It
does not bother him. It has become a routine job. The flames were so high
this time that people at Sagar Society, NIO colony and NIO Institute and
down the Bay View where I reside could smell the fumes today on 7th March
at around 11 am for one hour. ( see another photo). Environmentalists are
also keeping mum because nothing works in Goa. We have already witnessed
several cases of cancer and the Manipal Hospital receives a number of
cancer cases whether it is due to cell towers erected around the whole of
Dona Paula or due to the fumes or maybe both. Especially nowadays we are
more worried about the cancer cases which are on the rise. I suppose the
Health Minister Viswajit Rane will safeguard at least his residential area
because he lives there. He should take immediate remedial steps with the
concerned department of Health or CCP to stop people dumping garbage all
over Dona Paula and putting fire.

[Goanet] Grandmotherly Home Rule

2018-03-07 Thread Roland Francis
Tell me all this drama-comedy surrounding the CM’s serious medical condition
doesn’t remind you of a strict grandmother in the kitchen struck by a serious
illness but still wanting to maintain complete control on what goes on there.

The daughter-in-law places one spice tin out of it’s usual place and there goes
the booming voice of grandma from the bed: “Didn’t I tell you that only the
bawarchi (cook) can touch those spice boxes?”

Poor Deputy Chief Minister. His post should mean that he takes over if the CM
is unable to discharge his functions. Imagine his chagrin on being told that he
is one of three who can take decisions and if there is an emergency a fourth
will be appointed superseding the other three, from the room of an American
hospital.

Francis D’Souza, his self-respect already in tatters with all these confidence
destroying decisions, should do the only decent thing available to him: RESIGN.

[Goanet] The Legacy

2018-03-07 Thread Roland Francis
Perhaps it’s too early to talk of legacies but if one has to be written of
Manohar Parrikar, it will have to be of broken promises, shattered dreams,
opportunities missed, principles thrown in the wind of expedience and of a
promising son of Goa dragging the state’s good name further in the mud after
all the disreputable CMs it already had.

All his simplicity, his hard work, his education and his strong will have had
to bow before the altar of keeping his party’s interests ahead of his state’s.

Those who years ago read of Goanetter Rajan Parrikar’s frustrations and
disappointments with one-time friend Manohar Parrikar would have had an inkling
of what was to come.

It is very disappointing that someone who could make a great Chief Minister and
set the bar for good governance for a small state that deserved it, has
shattered the expectations of a simple, honest, trusting and hospitable
population, leaving it no choice but to take the undesirable path of the rest
of the country.

Sorry Manohar Parrikar, you let your unstinted devotion and obligation to a
political party hinder a greater cause - the good of your own people.

Re: [Goanet] GOANET : HERALD'S E-PAPER TO GO PAID

2018-03-07 Thread Eugene Correia
Will other Goa newspapers follow suit? Do Goa has many online newsreaders?
I believe many prefer to read hard copies instead of digital ones.
That brings me to the question: Are there any newspapers in India who have
erected a paywall? Newspapers in North America are struggling and many like
the Washinton Post, New York Times, Toronto Star, etc are working hard to
gain online subscribers. The Guardian hasn't done yet but requests its
readers to subscribe. Even The Atlantic, a good mag, is going or gone
subscriber-based. Some newspapers off 5 to 7 articles Free per week to read.
