Villagers for a Clean, Hygienic Tinto in Chandor

It is interesting that the Fabrica, which is the treasure of village
church in Goa also owns the Tinto and some surrounding shops. There are
other churches that also own the Tinto and shops in other villages. This is
not a coincidence.
The Tintos' and the nearby shops historically evolved around temples. When
these were destroyed in Salcete, in 1567, the property owned by the
temples was confiscated and in most cases the newly-formed churches
inherited these properties. The members of the Fabrica and the Parish
Priests do not know the local history.
(A survey of the Tinto's ownership will prove this to be the case.)

I think you have a strong argument to object to a toilet facility in the
vicinity of the Tinto, particularly on sanitary and aesthetic grounds.

[Goanet] Press Release_FIFA WORLD CUP QATAR 2022 EMBLEM LAUNCH WILL BE LAUNCHED LIVE IN MUMBAI

2019-09-02 Thread sruti chakraborty
*FIFA WORLD CUP QATAR 2022 EMBLEM LAUNCH WILL BE LAUNCHED LIVE IN MUMBAI*

*Mumbai, 2nd September 2019*: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which is going to
be the historic first-ever FIFA World Cup hosted by any of the middle
eastern gulf countries, will set a major footprint in India on Tuesday
(September 3, 2019) as the World Cup emblem launch will be streamed live on
a giant screen at Babulnath Mandir junction in South Mumbai simultaneously.

Meanwhile, Mumbai is the only Indian city alongside fourteen other cities
in the non-Arabic world where the event will be streamed live. The event is
scheduled to take place at 2252 hrs. IST (2022 hrs Qatar local time) on
Tuesday (September 3, 2019).

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy of Qatar, which is the local
organising committee of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 has taken up the
initiative to generate more interest amongst the Indians for the
forthcoming FIFA World Cup which is, incidentally, going to be the second
edition of the quadrennial flagship tournament hosted by an Asian Football
Confederation (AFC) member association, which is India also an integral
part of.

Middle-east has always been a favourable destination for the Indians and
the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy wants to tap in them to make
the event a grand success. Indian nationals residing elsewhere in the world
can avail visa-on-arrival in Qatar during the football extravaganza to ease
the entire travel process.

Nevertheless, geographically, Qatar 2022 is touted to lure more
football-frenzy Indians to taste the in-stadia experience as the distance
of Qatar, compared to the previous host nations, from any part of India
will be minimal. Not less than 25% of entire Qatar's population hail from
India and the LOC has been quite positive to exploit the
football-fanaticism of them as well.

Along with many firsts in the FIFA World Cup history, this edition will be
scheduled between November 21, 2022, and December 18, 2022, instead of the
conventional International FIFA window during June-July.

On the other hand, the forthcoming edition of the FIFA World Cup will be
most compact in terms of travelling distance. The eight stadiums which will
host the matches are situated within a 50-kilometre radius circle which
provides the supporters with an opportunity to watch multiple matches in a
day during the round-robin stage of the tournament.

[Goanet] PANAJI MLA BABUSH MONSERATTE HAS POLTICALLY SELFISHLY SMARTENED BUT OUR SINKING CITY IS IN UTTER DOLDDRUMS

2019-09-02 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had summoned a public interaction *of *that
beleaguered Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) with the
citizens of Panaji on 28th May at the Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji but
at the last minute he abruptly cancelled it while publicly assuring us all
that it would be very soon re-scheduled.

It is now over three long months and that meeting has still not been
called, perhaps because the Panaji Congress MLA Babush Monseratte is now
well locked and languishing strangled in the BJP cage. How does playing
musical chairs and jumping from party to party for the greed of ill-gotten
gains and the lust for power negate the urgent need to ensure that the
truth prevails in the best interests of the taxpayer and Panjimites
especially when Babush Monseratte had demanded the same while in
opposition? Has his principles sunk to such depths of hypocrisy and double
standards and being a deliberate disappointment to the electorate?

It is worth reminding Goans what Babush Monseratte had said about Pramod
Sawant’s behavior, following the abrupt cancellation of the Imagine Panaji
Smart City’s projects discussion that he had called in his capacity as
Panaji MLA. In condemning CM Sawant, Babush Monserrate said ‘This is
nothing but an act of trickery by the CM to hide the Smart City Scams from
the people of Panaji. The Honourable CM he added, continues his quest to
keep IPSCDL as a mystery property in possession. He has chosen to keep all
Panjikars along with me, an elected representative of Panaji in the dark on
his obscure mission’.

It is very imperative that Pramod Sawant should at the earliest possible
convene this crucial meeting which he abruptly cancelled with the Citizens
of Panaji so that the true facts and figures of this so-called multi-crore
Panaji Smart City mega scam venture and loot all comes to the fore. He must
realise that he is responsible and accountable for his actions and misdeeds
to the people of Panjim and Goa.

Those who have deviously pocketed crores under the guise of transforming
Panaji into a Smart City need to be exposed and mercilessly punished if not
hanged. These culpable culprits that were given responsibility for this
adventure and squandered crores of public funds to enrich themselves must
now be held accountable to the very Smart Citizens of Panaji. These
scamsters must realize that they can run but they can no longer hide their
misdeeds from the people of Panaji and Goa at large.

And when the Ribandar roads which is part of Panaji Constituency are in a
very despicable state, the MLA Babush Monseratte cannot be absconding.
Having now merrily embraced the Casino lobby Babush Monseratte has
shamelessly gone back on that promise to Panajimites that all the Casinos
in the River Manodovi would be removed in 100 days. Shame on you, Babush
Monseratte. Please quit and make way for a new honourable, knowledgeable
and decent MLA. Its time Babush Monseratte and other politicians realize
that election promises cannot be like China made goods, with no warranty
and neither a guarantee. The people of Panaji will hold you accountable for
fooling them and taking them on a jolly good ride.

There is no greater fraud than a promise not kept. Gandhi once said ‘Breach
of promise is a base surrender of truth’.

[Goanet] Looking back at: Open Defecation Free (ODF) and the Bare Buttocks

2019-09-02 Thread Joao Barros-Pereira
Beyond the Grave

Looking back at: Open Defecation Free (ODF) and the Bare Buttocks

For the week which passed (17/7/21-14) when I was alive on Planet Earth.

If I recall correctly - and it is not easy as I am no longer on Planet
Earth - as a young man I saw a Paolo Pasolini movie in which a number
of prisoners were doing their morning ritual.

Now, it is not easy for me to check the facts, and boring to look at
buttocks from where I am - and waste matter - no doubt important as it
allows human beings to stay alive and healthy.

While some people accuse movie directors of being obsessed with the
natural human biological functions, others claim they have turned it
into twenty-first century art.

Movie buffs and critics are welcome to debate the issue. All I say is
- leave me out!

Glad to know all this is behind me ever since I moved house. Be
patient, you will have your chance to come over to where we live.

No need to hasten your departure by drinking an excess of caju fenny
or committing suicide. When the time is right, the apple will fall.

Anyway, does Goa have a Paolo Pasolini? Both Italy and Goa are
bedrocks of Roman Catholic countries and culture; and, this sort of
movie flows smoothly from this sort of psyche.

Goan tiatr is influenced by Italian drama, and Goans might have a few
more aspects which they share with their Italian brothers and sisters
- more than the Portuguese.

The government has declared Goa as Open Defecation Free (ODF) a place
which is open defecation free and which is also an open lie - as the
public knows only too well.

Tourists - last year and for years - have eaten in beach shacks where
the food is served by waiters who stand and wait; however, the waiters
do not have a single toilet to sit on for themselves when they hear
the call of nature.

As people in Goa know, the owners of the shacks do not allow the
waiters to use the seasonal toilets which are for the customers.

That the workers cook and serve food to the customers who visit the
shacks which do not have toilets for the workers does not at all worry
the shack owners nor the government.

What about health and hygiene?

Will it be the same this year after the false Open Defecation Free
(ODP) announcement made by the government?

One Goan writer described the scenario on Miramar beach last year of
people showing off their buttocks as a 21-gun salute.

As he is also a photographer, it might be a good idea to have a
photography contest to rebut the utterly false claims of the
government.

It could be a terrific community project.

Maybe, a business house which takes pride in corporate responsibility
might want to offer a mobile toilet for the best photograph.

This way the government will no doubt get the picture.

And - if Goa has a Paolo Pasolini - what some people consider
offensive can be changed to hight art, can’t it?

If you do not want to see the movie you don’t have to see it but if
you do want to see it there is the annual film festival hosted in Goa
- and you are welcome.

It might win a film award for a Goan director and a place in the Sun.
Our sagging tourist footfalls will surely pick up in numbers.

The world of art sometimes is not pleasant but then reality can be far worse.

[Goanet] Villagers for a Clean, Hygienic Tinto in Chandor

2019-09-02 Thread Linken Fernandes
For the information and awareness of ChandorCarers and Goa-lovers worldwide

September 2, 2019

On Saturday, August 31, when two panchayat and two church fabrica members
were trying to mark the spot for a proposed public toilet in the tinto, my
wife and I objected. We objected because many of us in our village have
unitedly opposed a public toilet here for over a decade, as it will not
only contaminate our food and vitiate our shopping experience but will also
be an eyesore in the heart of our 'heritage village.' The panchayat and
fabrica cannot maintain basic cleanliness and hygiene in the tinto, despite
how tiny it is now, but they want to bring in an additional health hazard
to add to the mess!

It is a disgrace that the church fabrica is shamelessly, and
unconscionably, trying to impose a toilet right in front of people's homes,
mainly my family's and Mrs. Angela Miranda's. How would you react if
someone planted a public toilet right in front of your house, particularly
when there are half a dozen secluded corners available elsewhere in the
market area and all quite close to the tinto? In fact, the fabrica is not
permitting the community toilet in two alternative locations selected by
the Chandor panchayat as well, one near the panchayat hall, and the other
in the secluded corner in the rear of the church shop-buildings. These are
ideal locations for this public amenity in the market area and will
inconvenience absolutely no one (photos in following posts).

We asked the fabrica members what objection they had to these two sites,
but they had no answer. Good sense prevailed, though, and the four officios
withdrew from the altercation, and so, for the moment, it seems that the
plan to sully our tinto has been stalled.

The Chandor panchayat would do well to completely veto any proposal to
bring a public toilet into the heart of the tinto. There is no need to take
orders from a super-sarpanch, the parish priest foisted on the village by
remote controllers. Some Chandorcars in the fabrica and the panchayat seem
to have given away the birthright of our own villagers determing the future
of our village to the religious mafia of philistine, Mammon-worshippers who
have most Catholics in Goa in a pernicious, hypnotic trance.

Everyone knows how two parish priests and the fabrica have blocked, over a
decade, a public toilet near the school toilet where they place mobile
toilets every January during the Three Kings feast fair (see photo above).
These two parish priests, including the present one, have told me that they
don't want a public toilet here because of the smell they will have to
endure. So, they have no scruples to try to push the smell on to the entire
village instead! Such is the calibre of the priests who occupy Catholic
churches in Goa today!

The fabrica is also ignoring proposals made for public toilets to be
installed around the football ground and the cemetery. All of these add up
to some five to six sites that the parish priest and fabrica are
obstructing public toilets in. This, despite the church minting lakhs and
lakhs of rupees every year from the market, from the three church shop
buildings in the village centre, and from the annual feast fair. But when
it comes to ensuring the comfort of the public which provides the church
this largesse, it refuses to accept any responsibility.

Some thirteeen years ago, Goa's Catholic Church sold away the land that
most Catholics in Vanxim island were living on to some real estate company
from Bangalore without informing the innocent Vanshikars about it. The
Archbishop of Goa, Felipe Neri Ferrao, later admitted that what the Church
had done in Vanxim was “morally wrong, but legally correct”! But that
didn’t stop the Church once again doing something similar in Vasco some
three years ago, leaving no less than 55 families high and dry when it sold
the ground their houses were on to another land developer. Most of the
people dis-housed were Christian.

I have sought a meeting of our villagers with the fabrica to discuss the
matter of basic amenities in the village centre. (I will post the letter
here soon). We would like this discussion to take place quickly, with as
many people attending as possible. Friends in Guirdolim, and ChandorCarers
throughout the world, do please also join in. Call or contact me through a
Whatsapp message (9923417804) if you want to help set things right.

Thank you.

[Goanet] GOA IS MILES AWAY FROM ATTAINING ODF STATUS

2019-09-02 Thread Aires Rodrigues
It is absolutely outrageous that the Goa Government has had the rank
audacity to so deceitfully declare Goa as Open Defecation Free (ODF). The
very sordid ground reality is there for all to see with people urinating
and even defecating out in the open everywhere. In the hills, the fields
and along the riverside across Goa we see it all. Even not spared is the
Porvorim slope just below the Government Secretariat which is used by
hordes of laborers to publicly ease themselves. It is also not uncommon
seeing tourists on arrival urinating around the bus terminals due to lack
of proper toilets. Same is the sorry state of affairs even at most
government offices.

Having miserably failed to deliver on any of its promises from effective
garbage management to safe and smooth roads and adequate medical facilities
to name but a few, the incompetent Goa Government must hang its head in
shame. Nothing more needs to be said on this Government’s failed solemn
promise to the long suffering people of Goa that all the roads would be
free of potholes before this Ganesh Chaturthi. The bottom line is that for
Goa to be Open Defecation Free we would have to first free ourselves from
the rampant corruption that our State is engulfed in. The astute people of
Goa are no fools to be hoodwinked by false facts and figures deviously
released by the Government.
