[Goanet] The Banana Republic of The United States
First it took a major pandemic, then it took a Lying, Cheating and Dishonest President but finally what clinched it was that half the country wanted such a rotten human being to be re-elected to head them for another 4 years. There’s no other way to say this except in this way: the reputation of the United States, never good at the best of times, is now in tatters. For us in the rest of the world, it’ll be a rough time to see who fills the vacuum. Roland.
Re: [Goanet] Two Gurlz and a Guitar...
Poor, in the sense of being empathic, performers. Covid has robbed them like many others, of their glam, glitter and wow factor. May be its just me but listening to local (non-professional) groups, bands or performers is far from listening to their recorded, professional counterparts on paid or You Tube platforms. I can see showpersons looking for some income and organizations like the Catholic Gym wanting to give back something to their members (why else annual fees), but it does nothing in terms of raising the spirits, for the listener. [Goanet] DidYouKnowThat: Pop Hits, Poona seminarians... and the late Augustine Silveira SJ
DidYouKnowThat: The book *Pop Hits* (Western music lyrics, about 297 songs in one volume, other volumes available too) has been published with no name of any identifiable publisher, date or city of publication. A friend gave me a clue about its origins quite some time back and that it might have come out of a seminary in Pune (then Poona). Apparently, local seminarians got an evening off for music, and some of them compiled the (cyclostyled) popular hits of the time and made their files into a book. Got a copy sold by Furtado's for Rs 100. Date not clear. After reading this, Linus DLima, Xavier's alumni in Mumbai, commented: "(It was the work of) Late Rev Fr Augustine Silvera SJ. I had the cyclostyled version. Later printed by Rev Fr George Rosario SJ - one sold by Furtados." Fr Silveira SJ, as Linus tells me, was famous for his song 'Sorpotel'. You can listen to it here: https://youtu.be/wETzHqMf7PE His colleagues remember Augustine Silveira was known as *Pop* Silveira, because he joined the Jesuits late in life. "Yes, he was a great one for making and keeping contacts! He was a party man too and loved to sing along and get others to do the same.so he got on to compiling this songbook for his friends. Originally from Goa [Tivim], he spoke good Konkani. Later worked and died in Mumbai about five years back." George Rosario SJ presently at Byculla n Mazagon updated the songbook some 20 years ago. -- FN* फ्रेड्रिक नोरोन्या * فريدريك نورونيا +91-9822122436

[Goanet] PTA of Govt. High School Ambaulim Condemn the decision of the govt. of transferring regular teacher
PRESS NOTE The parents of Government High SchoolAmbaulim strongly condemn the decision of the Education Department of Transferring English Teacher Mrs. Lodovina Menezesfrom Govt. High School Ambaulim, Quepem inthe middle of the academic year. Mrs. Lodovina Menezes who is adedicated, sincere and punctual teacher teachingEnglish subject was instrumental for getting 100% result for the school for thelast two consecutive years have been transferred from Government High School Ambaulimto Multipurpose High School Margao, without taking the PTA into confidence andwithout providing a substitute English teacher, that to when Multipurpose HighSchool Margao already has a English teacher. Before the transfer there were 5regular teacher in the school now the number is reduce to 4, there are 3 special teacher ( drawing, computer and physical education) 1 lab assistant, 1 CCL ( Child care leave) and4 lecture basis teacher now which has been increased to 5. That in July 2016 the PTA of theschool has written to the Director of Education copy of which was send toEducation Minister and other officials requesting therein to fill the vacantpost of Social Science, Science, Math, English Lower level, Konkani , Hindi withregular teacher but till dated the department has not fill up the vacant postinstead of transferred the regular English teacher which is unjust and unfair. That 90% of the student studying inthe school are from tribal community, 5% are of migrant labourers while 5% arefrom General category. Most of them are first generation leaners, who requiresspecial intension and for that regular teachers are must. But instead offilling the vacant post with regular teacher the Department is transferring the regular teacher. Why the government is doing injustice to thedown trodden by not providing adequate teacher and by transferring the teacher formthe school who devoted to the cause of education? The Government don’t wantchildren of these communities to be studied? It is learnt that the said teacherhas been transferred due to politicalpressure in collusion with the newly appointed headmistress. The parents have reason to believe so, as normally a good teacher teaching in std.Xth is not relived by the head of the institution unless a substation is given. However in the present case newlyappointed headmistress immediatelyrelived the teacher. For the past many years the schoolwas not functioning properly. That toget the school on track we have fought a long battle for years together withthe department. Now we request the department and our politician not to dopolitics in the temple of leaning for theirshort term political gains, not to transfer teacher as they change politicalparties. We request the department to immediately cancel the transfer of Mrs. Lodovina Menezesand reinstate her to Government High School Ambaulim if that is not possible provide us RegularEnglish teacher and fill up the vacant post. [Goanet] [Photo Blog by Rajan Parrikar] Hvannadalshnjúkur
Photo Blog by Rajan Parrikar has posted a new item, 'Hvannadalshnjúkur' Iceland's highest peak. Hvannadalshnjúkur (approximate pronunciation: kvanna-daalsh-nyookur) is a compound of Hvönn (Angelica), Dal (valley), and Hnjúkur (mountain peak). It sits atop the Öræfajökull volcano, a tongue of the mighty Vatnajökull glacier. These images were taken on two different occasions a few weeks ago. [Goanet] SOCIETY REPLICATING CORONA
WHY NOT TACKLE THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM? Right from electing so called winnable candidates, to going after service providers to censure hate speeches, in fact any problem; why is it that we never tackle the problem simply where it all begins? We are being fooled or fooling ourselves by our ego and prejudices, religion and caste flowing from them and thriving. Forexample isn't it easier and makes sense to simply shut up the hate mongers, police speak the language they understand on them and not the victims? Problem solved at root and all fallout stopped in its tracks! That is what police are there for and no one else authorized to use force! Outside temples, mosques, churches we do not generally follow the preachings and teachings of love, joy and peace embracing the brotherhood of man. There is no respect and decency shown on the road, nations are polarized living internally and externally in war zones. Such a lot of waste of finances and emotions, violence, pain and destruction, with starving and millions of fellow beings in dire straits and destroying nature in more ways than one. There is no justice equal for all and we have turned this beautiful world into disease and turmoil! Corona is a result and no one rich or poor, young or old, high or low are safe. Does society have to replicate Corona?
