SHORT OF A CENTURY-- JESUIT BROTHER Epiphanio
Dias, SJ, died a month short of his 100th birthday,
after leading a long and productive life at St
Britto, Mapusa. He is remembered by men today whom
he took care of as eight-year-olds in the junior
boarders' section. His strictness taught us valuable
lessons, as one recalled. Till well into his 90s,
Brother Dias kept busy playing the mouth-organ and
picking up new challenges like learning the Kannada
  language. See videos here:

Free Eye Camps in Goa in December 2020 -
https://www.goasudharop.net/single-post/goa-sudharop-covid-assistance-eye-camps

As part of Goa Sudharop's continuing Covid Assistance in Goa which began in
April 2020, we are pleased to organize free eye camps for below poverty line
people who cannot afford basic travel to go to doctors and pay for medical
care. The first eye camp was held on December 6th in Orlim. Other eye camps
will follow in Varca, Cormona, Quepem, Paroda and Canacona. These eye camps are
organized and led by Irene Almeida and the Goa Sudharop volunteer team in Goa.
Fifty-two residents of Orlim and the surrounding villages were successfully
helped on December 6th. Goa Sudharop would like to convey its immense gratitude
to all the volunteers, to SUN PHARMA who donated eye drops and supported the
eye camp, to our Goa-based volunteer medical services team, especially to Dr.
Sarvesh Sawant who donated his services and for his past volunteer work for Goa
Sudharop during this pandemic, and to KOHINOOR OPTICALS who donated the
spectacles/glasses free to the patients.

Goa Sudharop appreciates all the donated time, effort, services, and in-kind
contributions from everyone and considers it a privilege to support needy
Goans. So many have supported and contributed with much compassion and great
purpose to make these eye camps possible. A special thank you to our volunteer
Irene Almeida for heading this initiative and her team for bringing together
all the resources needed and for developing, coordinating and organizing the
event with great purpose and discipline.

If an esteemed and very savy advocate like Aires can be hoodwinked  by people
in what he alleges to be a spurious and unlawful maintenance society, what hope
is there for us ordinary citizens not versed in the law. ?

UNDER THREAT

The bee-keeping industry in India

DECEMBER 10, 2020 | 2.00 PM INDIA TIME

In the past week, we have read, seen and heard about the nefarious
business of adulteration of honey. This business has had a serious
negative impact on the livelihoods of bee-keepers, an aspect that also
needs some attention.

Join us at a webinar with bee-keepers to understand the threat and the
challenges that they face.Hear the story of our bees and the business
of bee-keeping from the whistle-blowers themselves. Remember, this is
not just about our health, but about the livelihoods of our
bee-keepers and about the bees that provide us the pollination Ð
which is crucial for productivity.

[Goanet] {Dilip's essays} Discussion about "The Deoliwallahs", TODAY Dec 9

2020-12-09 Thread Dilip D'Souza
December 9

Please join my co-author Joy Ma and me as the MP and celebrated author
Shashi Tharoor engages us in a conversation about our book, "The
Deoliwallahs"! This is part of the Jaipur Literature Festival's ongoing
"Brave New World" series of book events.

Here's a passage in Tharoor's new book, "*THE BATTLE OF BELONGING: On
Nationalism, Patriotism, And What it Means to Be Indian*", that speaks of
our book:

---
But India, too, had an episode that was just as disgraceful: *The
Deoliwallahs* by Joy Ma and Dilip D’Souza is the story of Chinese–Indians,
most born in this country, who were incarcerated in detention camps shortly
after the 1962 Sino–Indian war as potential fifth columnists, and only
released more than four years later, in 1967.102 This marked the first time
since the adoption of the Indian Constitution that neither birth nor
belonging, nor roots or livelihood were deemed sufficient to accord
nationality in India: these thousands of innocents were detained for no
other reason than that their ethnicity made them suspect—just as today, to
some unsavoury nationalists, Muslim Indians’ religion is deemed to raise
questions about their entitlement to be regarded as citizens of India on a
par with others.

Re: [Goanet] THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE IS ULTIMATE

2020-12-09 Thread Bernice Pereira
Primarily let’s ask ourselves how this government came into power. It was
against the will of the people. They forced and forged their way in. This
itself was a well- planned move with malafide intentions. Now they are doing
everything to carry out their plan and exploit Goa and fill the pockets of
their masters who will in turn churn in enough money for elections, so that
they stay in power. This is the end of Goa, unless this lot is overthrown.

[Goanet] THE LOOT AND PLUNDER AT MILROC RIBANDAR

2020-12-09 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Unlike a Housing Society, a mere Maintenance Society in a housing complex
has no legal entity whatsoever and is virtually an illegitimate mere
self–help group in the eyes of law. The law does not permit conveyance of
the property rights to a mere Maintenance Society.

Possibly on account of this factual position many fellow residents of our
Milroc Complex at Ribandar in their wise wisdom since 2010 when this
maintenance society was formed have rightly refused to be members of this
illicit Maintenance Society and be defrauded. And there is nothing in law
that this Maintenance Society can do anything about it.

Better late than never, after witnessing the current loot and plunder of
our complex by some members of the current committee who are on an
expedition to expeditiously empty the coffers, I have yesterday resigned as
a member of this now very high-handed unlawful Maintenance Society which
has been lacking transparency and accountability in its functioning.

By a Sale deed executed by me on 28th September 2006 with the builders
Milroc Development Company besides being owner of my 34 sq mts office, I am
entitled in law by that sale deed to undivided rights equivalent to 42.5 sq
mts in our Milroc complex which is admeasuring about 42294 square meters.

To protect my interests, I have after deep considerations decided to
enforce my legal rights as a co-owner of the above Milroc Complex and not
to be at the mercy of some of the current devious office bearers of the so
called Milroc Ribandar Retreat Co-operative Maintenance Society Limited
which is now being managed by individuals some of whom have vested
interests as real estate agents and construction contractors while the
residents are being unduly burdened with very exorbitant maintenance
charges.

I am also putting the various government authorities on notice so that the
hard earned money of my fellow residents too is not pocketed by these
deceitful mercenaries who are currently holding our complex at ransom for
their financial windfall.
