The song is about the cod (the favourite Portuguese bacalhão) though I don’t
know whether it is the fish he is referring to or the girl who dances like one.

But with the singing 77 year old Iglesias who has performed 5,000 concerts in 5

And some will die from the lack of it.

From today’s Washington Post:

Biden has two big goals in getting Americans vaccinated against coronavirus:
Distributing doses of the three vaccines approved for use so far in the United
States, and convincing those Americans skeptical of the vaccines that they’re
safe and effective.

Both of those things got a little harder after it was revealed Wednesday that a
contractor for Johnson & Johnson, which produces a single-shot vaccine approved
for use in the U.S., Emergent BioSolutions, contaminated 15 million doses in
the manufacturing process. That would be $150 million worth of vaccine, at the
$10-a-dose price Johnson & Johnson charges for the finished product.

Emergent Biosolutions, where a mishap spoiled 15 million doses of Johnson &
Johnson's coronavirus vaccine, in Baltimore. (Photo by Jim Lo
Scalzo/EPA-EFE-Shutterstock)

Emergent hadn’t actually been certified by the FDA to produce the Johnson &
Johnson vaccine, and the contamination was caught during routine
quality-control checks. The issue doesn’t affect any doses already made in
other plants, and Johnson & Johnson said it was still on track to fulfill its
commitments to the federal government.

[Goanet] Good Friday: A Friday that reminds us of God's love

2021-04-01 Thread Pratap Naik
Good Friday: A Friday that reminds us of God’s infinite love towards all.

Good Friday is a day commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death
at Calvary. It is observed during the Holy Week as part of the Paschal
Triduum on the Friday preceding easter Sunday, and may coincide with the
Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great
Friday, Great and Holy Friday (also Holy and Great Friday), and Black
Friday. From the early days of Christianity, Good Friday was observed as a
day of sorrow, penance, and fasting, a characteristic that finds expression
in the German word Karfreitag (“Sorrowful Friday”). This year Good Friday
is celebrated on Friday, April 2, 2021.

Why is Good Friday called Good Friday? Probably because good used to mean
holy. Good Friday" comes from the obsolete sense "pious, holy" of the word
"good". A common folk etymology incorrectly analyzes "Good Friday" as a
corruption of "God Friday". In Old English, the day was called "Long
Friday" (langa frigedæg), and this term was adopted from Old English and is
still used in Scandinavian languages and Finnish.

Good Friday reminds us how much Jesus loved us through his suffering and
death. He died for us and for our sins.

The date of good Friday varies from one year to the next on both the
Gregorian and Julian calendars. Eastern and Western Christians disagree
over the computation of the date of Easter and therefore of Good Friday.

Following the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke), the mainstream of
Christian tradition has held that Jesus’ last meal with his disciples on
the evening before his Crucifixion was a Passover Seder. That would place
the date on which Jesus died on 15 Nisan of the Jewish calendar. According
to the Gregorian (Western) calendar, that date would be April 7.
Christians, however, do not commemorate that fixed date. Instead, they
follow the apparently flexible date of the Passover—which conforms to the
Jewish lunisolar calendar rather than the Gregorian solar calendar—by
relating the Last Supper to the seder. Although that assumption is
problematic, the dating of both Good Friday and Easter has proceeded on
that basis. Thus, Good Friday falls between March 20, the first possible
date for Passover, and April 23, with Easter falling two days later.
The question of whether and when to observe Jesus’ death and Resurrection
triggered a major controversy in early Christianity. Until the 4th century,
Jesus’ Last supper, his death, and his Resurrection were observed in one
single commemoration on the evening before Easter. Since then, those three
events have been observed separately—Easter, as the commemoration of Jesus’
Resurrection, being considered the pivotal event.

The liturgical celebration of Good Friday has undergone various changes
over the centuries. In the Roman Catholic Church, the Mass is not
celebrated on Good Friday, though a liturgy is performed.

Beginning in the Middle Ages, only the officiating priest took Holy
Communion, which was consecrated at the Maundy Thursday mass; laypeople
have also communed on Good Friday since 1955. The liturgy of Good Friday
consists of the reading of the Gospel Passion narrative, the adoration of
the cross, and Communion. In the 17th century, following an earthquake in
Peru, the Three-Hour Service, a prayerful meditation on Jesus’ “Seven Last
Words on the Cross,” was introduced to the Catholic liturgy by the Jesuits.
It takes place between noon and 3pm. Similar services occur in the Eastern
Orthodox tradition, where no Communion is celebrated on Good Friday.

The Passion of Jesus of the final 12 hours before his death is well
depicted in “the Passion of Christ” American film of 2004 produced,
co-written and directed by the well-known Hollywood actor Mel Gibson and
starring Jim Caviezel as Jesus of Nazareth, Maia Morgenstern as Mother
Mary, and Monica Bellucci as Mary Margaret. It depicts the passion of Jesus
largely according to the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The
dialogue is entirely in Hebrew, Latin and Aramaic.

Unlike Christmas and Easter, which have acquired numerous secular
traditions, Good Friday has, because of its intense religious connotation,
not led to an overlay of secular customs and practices.

May the passion and death of Jesus, inspire us to face life with positive
attitude and to reach out with compassion, to the oppressed, suppressed and
crushed people of our society.

The old rugged cross is a popular Lenten hymn written in 1912 by Evangelist
pastor Bernard (1873-1958), USA and it is sung in the first video by Alan
Jackson and in the second video the hymn is sung by the congregation at
Belfast, north Ireland. The third video is the famous Latin hymn sung on
Good Friday, namely, Popule meus ( My people) composed by Tomas Luis de
Victoria ( 1548-1611)

[Goanet] IT HAS BEEN A VERY LONG WAIT FOR GOA’S NEW GOVERNOR

2021-04-01 Thread Aires Rodrigues
It will soon be eight long months that Goa has been without a full-time
Governor since that abrupt transfer of Governor Satya Pal Malik on 19th
August last year. It is not known how much longer the State will have to
wait to see a dedicated Constitutional head at our Raj Bhavan.

This inordinate delay in appointing a full-time Governor for our State is
inexplicable, while a very unimpressive and lackluster Governor of
Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari continues for so long holding additional
charge of Goa. It does not augur well that in a year when we are
celebrating 60 years of Goa’s Liberation we are limping and dependent on a
part-time Governor.

The post of Governor is of immense significance. Being the head of the
state, the role of the Governor is vital, who as the Chief Executive of the
State has Executive, Legislative, Judicial, Financial and Discretionary
powers that if exercised judiciously and with integrity could ensure the
proper good governance of the State.

The crucial issues of Mhadei and Mining continue unresolved while the
economy is in doldrums with the State getting further debt ridden by the
day. Goans and the youth in particular are rightly agitating against
projects that are not in the interest of the State and our environment.

The people deserve and expect to be taken seriously and treated with
respect. Goa merits a full time Governor who can be accessed by the people
to overcome the hurdles of poor and lack of proper administration that is
being detrimental to the State. The public unrest we have been witnessing
on various fronts across the State is a manifestation created through lack
of good and transparent Governance.

The ongoing pandemic and other critical issues including several
non-priority vanity projects that are being flogged need addressing
urgently at the highest level with determination and a firm resolve to
ensure Goa’s best interests. And for this we expect and deserve a no
nonsense full time Governor who will as his office demands, govern with
integrity and clarity while focusing solely on the welfare of the State and
its people.

With an ‘accidental’ Chief Minister at the helm, Goa has been suffering
enormously due to the ongoing sheer administrative paralysis that we are
witnessing. May our State be bestowed with a formidable Governor who will
administer the State with head and heart while not being a rubber stamp to
any wrong or foul decisions by the government. For the betterment of Goa
we need a proven and reputed administrator on the saddle at the Goa Raj
Bhavan.

It has been a very long wait. Let us hope and pray that our long overdue
new Governor soon sets foot on our Goan soil with a mission to selflessly
toil and judiciously serve our State.

Re: [Goanet] BABUSH MONSERRATE EVER STOP LYING?

Dear Aires,
Now that you have proof that this Babush fellow is a liar, why not
confront him?
Seems that Babush will keep on lying freely, knowing how pusillanimous
the Panjim Goenkars are.
Aires, as advocate, you seem the right guy to teach this Babush a
lesson.
What legal avenues are available to discipline this Babush? Can or will
the Chief Minister help you to punish or apprehend this Babush?

If not, you may need divine help - not in the form of prayers or Mass
but by the intervention from a high cleric.

Goa must be blessed with lots of bishops & other senior clerics.
Babush's transgression is a moral issue and therefore within church
jurisdiction.
So, Aires, please approach some bishop and remind him that this Babush
has sinned.
As per church rules, he must confess his lie and for penance, he must
promise to set up the Ribandar Health Centre forthwith.

Else no absolution.
Problem solved.
Good Luck.

Yesterday we finally got the documentary proof in the Goa Legislative

Ribandar on the eve of the CCP polls regarding the Ribandar Health
Centre.

When Babush Monserrate was campaigning at Ribandar on March 17th he
falsely

told the people that the Government had already approved the setting up
of

the Health Centre at the Old Ribandar Hospital and that the Chief
Minister

would announce it in this budget, which the CM obviously didn’t as there

was no approval and sanction for the same.

Earlier on 7th March it was also falsely promised by Babush’s Ribandar

team that

the Health Centre at the old Ribandar Hospital was going to see the
light

With the Government yesterday informing the Goa Legislative Assembly
that

the matter is under examination it only confirms that no decision has
yet

been taken and that Babush Monserrate as usual had lied to us all.

[Goanet] SCHOOLHEADMISTRESS LIES IN A FUTILE ATTEMPT TO SAVE HER RIBANDAR TEACHER WHO IS NOW WARD NO 30 CORPORATOR

2021-04-01 Thread Aires Rodrigues
CCP Ward No 30 newly elected Corporator Sandra Maria da Cunha continues to
be in rank breach of law by still illegally hanging on to her job as a
Teacher.

Sandra da Cunha who is a teacher at the Government aided Perpetual Succour
Convent High School in Navelim is attempting to hold on to her teacher’s
job with a salary of around Rs 75,000 a month and also bear the bountiful
 fruits as Corporator of CCP.

Infact earlier this week the Headmistress of the School Sister Liberata
Fernandes allegedly lied to the South Zone Education Department official by
falsely telling him that Sandra da Cunha was granted five year leave by the
Governing Council of the school from March 1st this year.

The official was flabbergasted when he realized that the Nun had lied. It
is so sad that as we prepare for Confession during this Holy Week, Sister
Liberata Fernandes chose to blatantly lie in an attempt to shield her
teacher Sandra da Cunha. The future is very bleak if even Nuns start lying.

But nobody and nothing can save Sandra da Cunha as the law requires that
any teacher employed in a Goa Government aided Primary, High School or
Higher Secondary School and contesting a Panchayat, Zilla, Municipal,
Assembly or Parliamentary election in terms of the circular issued under
Rule 30 of the Goa School Education Rules 1986, the teacher must
compulsorily proceed on ‘Leave not due” even before filing the nomination
papers.

In case the teacher is not elected, the teacher shall report back for duty
within three days of the final declaration of results of the election
contested.

The teacher if elected, the leave will be treated as “Leave not due” and
the teacher will not be entitled for any pay during the term of office
elected for.

A teacher who is elected after completion of the tenure as elected member
will rejoin the school as an employee on the same post held prior to
proceeding on “Leave not due”.

For the total period of “Leave not due” the teacher will be entitled to
have lien on the post held prior to proceeding on ‘Leave not due”.
