[Goanet] SECURITY LAPSE

2022-01-05 Thread John Eric Gomes
*PM CONVOY BLOCKED POLITICIZED*
A purely security lapse on the part of those responsible for the PMs safety
on his visit for political rallies in Punjab is sought to be politicized to
entirely blame the non BJP State government! The chopper schedule of the PM
was canceled due to weather and the route chosen by the PMs motor cade
blocked by agitating farmers. Reportedly the sudden change was not properly
planned as clearly laid down in the nations blue book with
elaborate detailed SOPs ! For one man whose security costs many crores,
travels in a bullet proof car and who has the whole arsenal of the
country's agencies which he is using, including the armed forces and
assets at his disposal, this lapse is not acceptable! Neither is ridiculous
reported comments like "the PM was on the verge of death" by Smiriti Irani
or "dismissal of Congress government and President 's rule" by Amrinder
Singh or BJP netas/media shouting how the PMs life was sought to be
jeopardized ,conspiracies etc are trying to cover up the security lapse.
Will a fair and impartial inquiry bring out the facts, establish those
responsible and heads roll accordingly?

[Goanet] This Covid Is Crazy

2022-01-05 Thread Roland Francis
Nothing can compare to the lunacy of some people.

Today’s news says the City of Toronto (the municipal government) has fired 460
staff for either not taking the vaccines or for not reporting their vaccine
status by the deadline given.

All levels of government in Canada do things by the book. They give liberal
timelines, they give extensions, they will suspend with pay and without, and
only then will they sack.

Secondly it must be understood that government jobs are plum positions. The
salary is decent, the benefits are generous and their pensions are to die for -
meaning few private sector employees get such compensation and retirement
benefits.

Therefore it is nothing but stupid when a person decides that:
1. Freedom of choice is being violated.
2. Someone else says what must go in their body.
3. No one can tell them what to do

Or some stupid reasoning of that sort.

Look for some Go Fund Me appeals on Anti-Vaxxer sites or Bleeding Heart blogs
for these terminated people.

These protestors should be sentenced not to jail but to a month in a slum in
Bangladesh. They’ll return with a balanced perspective.

Roland.

[Goanet] THE ELECTION FIESTA IS HERE

2022-01-05 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Unless the Omicron escalates, in less than two months Goa will have elected
its 40 new MLAs. In recent years the political game has transformed into a
business venture. Now for an assembly constituency you need to be spending
at least twenty crores to have a reasonable chance of winning.

Candidates would have to start sending their voters on pilgrimages to
Shirdi, Vailankanni or wherever they wish to go on a jaunt. While also
having to organize all sorts of sports tournaments to keep the youth in
good cheers. They may also have to start paying the electricity, water and
telephone bills of their voters and not be surprised if medical and other
bills are also stacked on top.

>From now to polling day candidates will have a hectic schedule attending
baptisms, first holy communions, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, house
inaugurations and funerals as they cannot afford to miss any.

Till polling day candidates should avoid any F.I.R being registered against
them, while assigning all the work of distributing cash and goodies to
their henchmen. They should not be caught on the wrong side of the law and
must keep away from major and minor vices till the votes are cast. As for a
candidate having a weakness for women, keeping a safe distance is a must. A
case of molestation, outraging modesty or attempt to rape is something a
candidate could do without at election time.

Today elections have become an investment gamble with everyone and
everything having to be paid for. The voters also know that they will only
be able to next squeeze their candidates in five years so they milk the cow
as deeply as they can. This is the stark reality of elections and the scene
can only get worse.

[Goanet] Indian Priest Chased With Machete, Christian Books Set On Fire

2022-01-05 Thread Roland Francis
On December 11th, an unidentified man armed with a machete barged into a church
in Karnataka's Belagavi and chased the priest in charge. CCTV footage shows
that the man with the weapon was following Father Francis D’Souza.
The perpetrator eventually fled the scene, unable to get close enough to the
Father.

On the same day, members of the Christian community in Srinivaspur town of
Kolar district were reportedly going door-to-door to distribute some religious
texts, described by some news agencies as Christmas cards, when members of
right-wing Hindu groups protested and set the texts ablaze.

These incidents come a day before the state Assembly meets for the Winter
Session in Belagavi. A controversial anti-conversion bill is tabled to be
discussed this session, with a likelihood of it being passed.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated that the government will not
let Churches misuse someone’s poverty to lure them into converting to
Christianity.

Re: [Goanet] He helped discover our past. And worked to help our future.

2022-01-05 Thread Mel de Quadros
Hello Anita:
Way back in 1962-63, the geology students and members of the Nairobi
Geology Discussion Group were volunteered to help sort out and catalogue
the rock and mineral collections at Coryndon Museum ( later the National
Museum) which was run by Louis and Mary Leakey. It was very close to the
University of Nairobi.

I remember going there a few Saturday afternoons, but being the age of 19
or 20, I had many other things to do at weekends. But I did meet some
members of the Leakey family. As first year students of Geology, we
students did not know an awful lot about minerals and rocks yet; the rocks
of East Africa are rather difficult to identify.

I did meet various members of the Leakey family later at their digs in
Serengeti, but not much came of it. The digs were purely white-led and
black-worked, and brown people didn’t really fit in. Those were the days it
was usual for the whites to make fun of Patels and Goans both of whom were
reputed not qualified for the more intellectual pursuits.

However the experience was exhilarating and enjoyable. I did a lot of
reading then. I have now only a picture book of the Kondoa rock paintings
written by Mary Leakey. It’s quite rare and quite beautiful.

Cheers.

Sad to hear about Richard Leakey's death.
He certainly put the then Tanganyika in the spotlight.
May he rest in peace.

Even their daughter is involved in the field.
Surely though Mel - you must have met Richard Leakey and wife Meave. Either at

The Leakeys made their way into our history book at St Joe's in Dar..
Too bad I never kept it.

It's a thought to ponder:-that life did indeed start in what is now TZ millions
of years ago.

Imagine. The white man began life in that basin of 'TZ' and was possibly very
dark! Maybe black.
I wonder if the late Richard Leakey wondered about that.
