[Goanet] Curtains downed on home delivery of milk and newspapers
Curtain down at Chinchinim on home delivery of newspapers and milk Mr Ramesh ,the owner has been providing milk and newspapers at door steps every day ever since He himself was at delivery service before leaving for postal duties It was a great relief to everyone to avail of homedelivery services regularly and unfailingly both in rain and biting cold It is disappointing that many of his customers have not paid dues for months if not for years He has to pay daily for milk supply and commission on news papers is a pittance and now accentuated by petrol hike.A repeat visit was ensured when there was delay in delivery of news paper At the suggestion of wellwishers a notice was given to all that if costs are not paid in advance such a facility will be discontinued with immediate effect. It was to no avail Now final notice of discontinuing home service from First May 2022 The realization will dawn about the convenience of this service in its absence RAMESH needs to be congratulated forv providing regular service in spite of habitual non pyment of dues Thank you Ramesh For it was a social service at a cost

[Goanet] Illegal tapping on Governor pipeline?
Received the above letter by post yesterday from Directorate of public grievances on this subject which I have addressed to Governor long ago. That could be an illegal tapping for the drinking water to Raj Bhavan pipeline by Mathias construction. This was based from the inputs received from Nelson Cabral councillor of this area jurisdiction. PWD should inspect the Governor pipeline coming from Bambolim if there exist such illegalities at more places. We, residents in Dona Paula are been facing acute shortage of drinking water which needs to be checked and rectified. Perhaps their water meter may be inspected and if found illegal an action must be initiated. Already two places the footpath is raised at the new entrance of their high rise construction. The Editor must pursue and publish in their Letters to the Editor column. Stephen Dias 10.4.2022 9422443110

[Goanet] Massive New DOCK Opened Dar es Salaam Harbour
To those real Goans whose parents lived either in Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam will remember how the SS Kampala or SS Amra or SS Karanja would be anchored midstream about 300 yards or more from the jetty opposite the iconic St Josephs Cathedral. The procedure was as follows...one came first from diverse places in the interior even as far away as Kigoma or Mwanza and came to DSM ...one stayed with friends or relatives because the small Goan guest house near the Sewa Haji hospital could not accommodate more than a handful of families. There were no taxis so you walked or took a rickshaw drawn by porters...there were even Hamali Carts also drawn by human beings One took a lot of goodies from Africa ...the allocation was 1 cubic metre per adult. The luggage packed with goodies from Africa..everything from coffee (raw or roasted) perhaps some small and not so small ivory pieces ..zebra skins how did the stuffed African lions in a couple of old palatial houses in Goa. THe big trunks and wooden crates were left by the dockside a day or two beforeand then the cranes put them on to 200 ton barges and and the tugs slowly nudged them beside the passenger ship and the cranes of the ship put them deep down into the hold ...African dockyard workers often without shirts did stacked luggage as well, as timber or gunny bags filled with Coffee, grain etc A pilots boat made quite sure that the 10,000 ton s passenger cum cargo ship did not hit the floating dock or the Mangrove patch near the entrance Once safe out of the harbour...the pilot climbed down the jacob ladder and into the pilot boat it had speed As I write this I am wondering whether any Goan or pilot fell into the water The ship then sailed to Zanzibar.. Passenger had once again to disembark so that more goods originating from Zanzibar could be loaded and numerous \small bags of cloves were also loaded...Once again one stayed with friends and neighbours or in Goan Operated guest houses or Mombasa was a dream ..the ships docked and since the procedure was short one was allowed to go and shop inn the town. The prudent Goan men and women would go and buy British Sovereign was pure gold ...you paid only a shilling more..for a Soverign and took them to Goa and promptly sold them, kept them or give them as a gift . The East African Shillings was pegged to the British Pound..and there .there was even a One shilling Note. Today such Notes (I am now reminded about the Soda Bottles with the marbles would be a collectors item and copper coins with holes in the centre. . The mangrove forest was removed as was the floating dock . For over two decades Dar es Salaam harbour has had a number of Berths increased so that now there are more than a dozen ships could dock. The Tanzania Harbour Authority is now proud of its new dock. Instead of each ship carrying 400 or more cars. The new dock, in contrast can accommodate a ship that was carrying over 4000 motor vehicles...big and small. More than 80 % of the vehicles were destined for Uganda, Congo, Malawi, Zambia > What a change.. Now .you take a Liner even a Yacht if you are super rich ..there are few Goan in this class! Big Mo Dewji is the youngest African dollar Billionaire and is..ranked Number 17. There are over 380 shilling billionaires in Tanzania..(Check Forbes ) Grandolfo It would be nice to get reaction and stories from Affricanders fre a
