[Goanet] A life worthy of recall

2022-10-06 Thread Nelson Lopes
A LIFE WORTHY OF RECALL

Death is inevitable, life and all shall end,
Far and distant notion , life we spend ,
Our energies directed to gather fame , wealth,
By just and fair means or by stealth.

No compassion or desire to share,
Attitude of pride and egos on lapel we bear,
Knowingly or otherwise , insult and hurt,
Amassed riches are left behind, is it worth?

Sooner then later natural to forget,
Lifelong mourning , a lip service to express regret,
Live and let live with thoughts for others to spare,
Perpetually on lips and hearts of persons you did care.

Be grateful with what you have , be content,
Not living for others is cause to repent,
Position, fame qualifications earned in life, memory will not extend,
The lives you touched , all that matters in the end.

Concerns for family , natural obligation and duty
Toil, labour ,sacrifices no colourful design of beauty
Cherished memories that you will live behind,
The joy of living for others that will only remind.

Entombed selfishness , present future and past ,
Not praise worthy to recall or meant to last,
contentment, living for others gratitude not in vain
One is reborn forever to live again

Rituals ,customs as you lie forlorn in the grave,
Mourning with spiritual attitude are acts to be brave,
A sign of loss is the black attire,
Sooner than later your active memory will retire

Suella Braverman: ‘Brexit isn’t a revolution – it’s a restoration’

During her leadership bid, Suella Braverman positioned herself as a Tory
maverick – a firm believer in Brexit, a campaigner for low taxes, and a
defender of controlled immigration. Once her campaign ended, she backed Liz
Truss because, she said, she wanted to join a team that would change
things. When Kwasi Kwarteng announced he would abolish the 45p rate of tax
on highest salaries, she was delighted. And when Michael Gove and others
rebelled against the plan, she accused them of orchestrating a ‘coup’.

We meet a few hours after her remarks, at a Spectator event at the Tory
party conference in Birmingham. She’s a little late, given the kerfuffle
caused by a home secretary talking about a coup. ‘That word has followed me
everywhere,’ she says. Kemi Badenoch, her cabinet colleague, called her
language ‘inflammatory’. Does Braverman regret speaking in such terms? ‘I
don’t think I’ve gone too far,’ she says. She seldom does.

Braverman, 42, has always been impatient for change. Lots of Conservatives
backed free schools; Braverman set one up. She was seen as too radical (and
Brexity) to prosper in the Cameron and May years, but Boris Johnson made
her attorney-general in his first big government reshuffle after the 2019
election. She tells me that the Brexit vote showed that the country has an
unsated hunger for change.

‘The people cried freedom,’ she says. ‘They said no to a centralised,
distant, out-of-touch, ill-fitting institution that lacked legitimacy and
wasn’t democratic. And that is what sums up, for me, the chutzpah and the
spirit of the British people. That is what keeps me so inspired about the
Conservative party.’ But she sees Brexit as a demand for change that has
yet to be implemented, starting with a fall in net migration – something
Truss has not called for.

‘I campaigned to leave the EU because in part I wanted migration to fall.
That was in our 2019 manifesto. If you look at net migration figures, they
have not fallen – we’re pretty much at the same level as pre-Brexit.’ It’s
a situation she intends to remedy. ‘We’ve got the levers in place. Priti
Patel and Boris Johnson put in the points-based system: we have new visa
routes and the power to control who we want to come to the country. I think
we should start exercising that power.’

Many of her cabinet colleagues want to relax immigration rules, to help
employers fill the near-record 1.2 million vacancies and get the economy
moving. ‘I dispute that,’ she says. ‘Look at welfare.’ Some nine million
working-age people in the UK are neither in work nor looking for it, and of
this figure about 5.3 million are on out-of-work benefits. ‘I cannot
believe that there are labour shortages that cannot be filled by starting
with that pool of people.’

What’s going wrong? ‘We have a large cohort who can work but are not
working – and they’re doing that out of choice in many cases. There are
people who are choosing early retirement: the number of over-fifties who
are not working has considerably increased. I think that is a cohort that
can be in gainful employment. We have people who are choosing to work
part-time and top up their income through tax credits – a choice that
they’re making because they’re making more money on

[Goanet] FOUNDATION STONES IN PANAJI?

2022-10-06 Thread Stephen Dias
FOUNDATION STONES
IN PANAJI

STEPHEN DIAS
DONA PAULA
9422443110
6th October 2022

It has become a trend for politicians to install foundation stones for
several reasons especially for a brigde, building construction, garden,
religious structure installation etc are planned to come up.
During the tenure of Parrikar there still exist foundation stones which are
still lying idle with no output whatsoever. For example there is one
foundation laid down at Campal stadium and other near Patto at Ourem side
opposite Ninho Infantil at the petrol pump and both are not been put of any
use. In fact the one near Campal stadium there are a dozen of damaged
vehicles near this foundation stone in dilapidated condition where crows
and other animals seen loitering around this particular stone. The other
one near Petrol pump close to Ninho Infantil is almost the stone itself
disappeared from this locality.
Now, I have seen a plaque has come up for a walking bridge opposite
Archives and other plaque other side of bridge for inauguration for
pedestrians to walk from Patto to Ourem road.
Both these plaques reads as Foundation stones and Inaugural stone with
number of VIP names embossed in it. I was told the one which has Parrikar
name plaque allegedly never existed in that point but was named after
Parrikar foundation stone possibly of the one which existed near Petrol
pump about 50 metres distance near the Water resources building. This
bridge has been recently inaugurated with pomp.
Now, my question is how many such walking bridges needs to be construction
for people to walk from Ourem road to Patto? One is already existed during
Portuguese regime which was named as Ponte de Linhares, other one is a
bridge for people who comes from Corde de Oiteiro and this new one which is
just inaugurated is of another 50 metres distance of high technology
costing several crores near the Archives also for people to walk from Patto.
Why such expenditure is needed when we Panjimites have number of problems
and GSIDC are not been able to repair till now the roads which are in
dilapidated condition having pot holes and they claim that Panjim is a
Smart City. We see whole Panjim city are dugged up with several trenches
and drains clogged with no outlet of rain water to go to Mandovi river with
water stagnation everywhere.
First preference should have taken for such emergency situation rather than
constructing such bridges within 50 metres distance for pedestrians coming
from Patto to Ourem road.

[Goanet] Is the war over ?

2022-10-06 Thread Antonio Menezes
With the reunification of four rich regions of Ukraine with the
Russian nation, it would appear that the war in Ukraine for all
practical purposes , is over at least for Russia.
Russia , for decades to follow , can tolerate pinpricks by
Ukrainian forces every now and then. It may also mean that
Ukraine could lead the Nato countries to bankruptcy for how
long can the Nato keep on supplying gratis war equipment ?
Even the US will feel the pinch sooner rather than later.
In the end, Russia will be weakened, however, the West
may go economically bankrupt.

[Goanet] Words & Technology

2022-10-06 Thread Joao Barros-Pereira
The meaning of words changes with the frequency of the seasons, and truth
from thousands of years aka translated truth is as authentic as plastic.

In my youth telephone technology meant we dialed the phone and when the
phone rang we answered it. Nowadays, he who answers the phone has to listen
to music more often than not. Sometimes you get to hear a lovely tune
though not often enough I suspect.

The other day a woman said she would ping me. I got got it honey although a
few seconds late. Can a man say to a woman: I am going to ping you! Educate
me.

A university student of mine in Japan looking at a pic in her textbook
asked me: Sir, what is this? A manual typewriter I replied. A lot of young
people have never heard of music records. And, the list goes on.

We who belong to various nations need to keep up with technology and
international companies around the world. We need to change our mindset or
at least give it a try.

The next time you meet me I will tell you I am from the planet Earth and
believe it or not - I am an Earthling!

Now you may think this is strange - wait until the Spacemen arrive and
start an undeclared war. If Putin can do it why not green people from Mars
or who the hell knows!
