Re: [Goanet] SORROWING LIES OUR RIBANDAR
Sorrowing lies the state of affairs of Goa. At the time if elections the so called candidates talk of development / ptigressnot understanding/realizing what actually development means. What one reads of smart City itself disgusting. Ultimately, who is responsible? Is it not the Voter? God save our land Sent from my Galaxy Original message From: Aires Rodrigues Date: 14/05/2024 22:04 (GMT-05:00) To: goanet Subject: [Goanet] SORROWING LIES OUR RIBANDAR It is very distressing and deeply anguishing to see the very alarming state of the roads in Ribandar. Our roads were already in dire straits when I saw them last two months ago and was hoping that the sad state of affairs would improve. But contrary to hopes and high expectations, the situation has just worsened with the people having to commute on these treacherous roads. Ribandar looks like a war battered zone. The digging of our roads in Ribandar has been going on for the last three years. Even for the blind eyes, the works are all shoddy and being done in a very haphazard manner, endangering the life and well being of the locals. With the monsoons fast approaching, it is a matter of grave concern as to what the residents would have to endure if immediate remedial measures are not taken. Let us all make a very personal appeal to Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and our Chief Secretary Punit Goel to please swiftly intervene and alleviate the misery looming large on the residents of Ribandar.

This book could help build the Konkani Wikipedia and Konkani Wiktionary (both online), as has the earlier lexicographical work of Isidore Dantas (co-created with the late journalist Joel D’Souza). RS 600 (IN GOA) Konkani in the Roman (Romi) script is currently not recognised for official purposes. Yet, this form of the language continues to be vibrant and widely used in daily life. Local initiatives have encouraged its use in local writing, publishing books, magazines, newspapers sections, and periodicals. This, amidst many challenges. In cyberspace, some Romi Konkani initiatives (such as WhatsApp groups and a multi-script Wikipedia) have been launched. But it's never enough; there is a long way to go. To take the language (and script) forward, a pressing need has been felt for a comprehensive, updated, and easy-to-access Konkani-English dictionary. This was built through long years of work by the Pune-based author, translator, lexicographer and long-time Konkani promoter Isidore Dantas. This initiative drew crowd-funding support at an early stage. The Contemporary Konkani English Dictionary has been worked out in an easy-to-comprehend format and style. It can fill a deep vacuum in the Konkani world. The last such dictionary was released way back in 1968. This dictionary also contains the etymology (the origins) of Konkani words, and also of words that Konkani has borrowed from other languages -- Sanskrit, Portuguese, Persian, Prakrit, Arabic, Urdu, Kannada, even Greek, Latin, Dutch, French, Hebrew, Tamil, and Tulu. * 16800 HEADWORDS * FOCUS ON WORDS CURRENTLY IN USE * COVERS MAJOR DIALECTS DICTIONARY * INCORPORATES WORDS EARLIER USED * CROWD-FUNDED, WITH READER SUPPORT *For mail-order (within India) send your address to either to FN fredericknoron...@gmail.com (WA: +91-9822122436) or to Isidore Dantas isidoredan...@gmail.com (WA: +91 98925 04447). [Goanet] Watch Interview: With Parakala Prabhakar, Finance Minister's husband, the author and economist-- BJP Will Get 200-220 Seats, NDA Below 272; Dictators End Badly
By: Karan Thapar Published in: *The Wire* Date: May, 15, 2024 Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJ6J3-j5xiA *Note:* The transcript is embedded in the source "The respected author, economist and commentator Parakala Prabhakar, who is also Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s husband, has forecast that the BJP will get between 200-220 seats whilst the NDA will fall below the majority mark. His figure for the NDA could be as low as 255. When asked if the BJP performs as poorly as he expects, what future does he see for Narendra Modi, Dr. Parakala said history shows that “almost all dictators end up in handcuffs or coffins”. In a 35-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Dr. Parakala said he expects to see a non-BJP led and non-NDA led government after June the 5th. In other words, an Opposition alliance. I do not want to steal Dr. Parakala’s thunder nor do I want to run the risk of misconstruing what he has said or wrongly paraphrasing or précising it. I think you should see this interview for yourself. Dr. Parakala shared his forecast for each of the states of south India (Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka) as well as for practically all the states of north and east India. He speaks individually about UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Haryana and Delhi. He also speaks individually about Maharashtra, Bengal, Odisha, Gujarat and collectively the North East. To sum up what he says (but you must see the interview for the details) Dr. Parakala believes the BJP could lose between 80-95 seats in north India and up to a further 15 seats in south India. If you take the average figure of 87 for north India that means the BJP could lose up to 102 seats compared to the 303 it won in 2019. This is why Dr. Parakala says he expects the BJP to win between 200-220 seats whilst the NDA will fall below a majority, perhaps by a significant margin."
