[Goanet] Quebec Goan Association: Christmas Wishes
My Dear Friends Fellow Quebec Goan Association Members, It has been just a few short weeks, since we celebrated together the feast of our beloved St. Francis Xavier. Those of us who were fortunate to be present at that celebration, experienced a wonderful evening of Goan hospitality entertainment; I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you who came out, because together you made of it, an evening that will long live in our collective memory. Now as the end of 2014 approaches, we turn our focus to the Christmas season and the New Year 2015. It is indeed the most wonderful time of the year, so I encourage each and everyone of you to take the time to enjoy and appreciate each others company, whilst celebrating the commemoration of our savior's birth. I must tell you that I have very much enjoyed my time spent as President of the Quebec Goan Association. To serve such a wonderful community has been and always will mean a lot to me. I have served in the position of Director, Vice President and for the last three years as President and I must tell you that dealing with the Goan Diaspora, has been for me an enriching experience and one that I shall forever cherish. As most of you know, the theme of my Presidency has been Faith, Food and Fun and I have tried to incorporate this theme into all the events that we organised throughout my term. I firmly believe that this theme is very much in line with our Goan character and identity and my wish is that it will always remain a strong part of the Goan psyche. I am grateful for the wonderful people who worked along side me on the committee's over several years and to all of you who offered your encouragement and help during my tenure as President. It remains now for me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Joyful New Year 2015. Thank you all, May God bless you all with health, wealth and wisdom. Yours Sincerely;Flora Almeida MarlowPresident: Quebec Goan Association1215 Garden AvenueMascoucheQuebec J7L-0A2Canadacell: (514) 779-0203

[Goanet] Quebec Goan Association: Thanksgiving Greetings.
Dear Friends, Thanksgiving, Greetings from the Quebec Goan Association. As another beautiful summer season comes to a close, we welcome in the spectacular colours of Fall with it the familiar shortening of daylight of course the cooling temperatures. We are blessed to live in a land that offers us such marvelous contrasts. Fall season is of course synonymous with harvest time, when we see the results of the seeds that had been sown in the spring time. The first settlers coming to North America’s shores felt an urge to give thanks to Almighty God, not only for the safe passage across the ocean, but also the abundant harvests that this new land provided. So friends; the origins of the feast of Thanksgiving reminds us that we too are called, to express our gratitude to God who throughout the ages has provided for our needs in great abundance. You and I as diaspora of Goa, and remember, diaspora simply means scattered seed are called to plant ourselves firmly in this new soil, and to produce a harvest that is in line with our Goan heritage and steeped in the traditions of our forefathers, who long ago accepted to be ambassadors for Christ. Re: [Goanet] 2000 year old holy torn tree of Glastonbury, UK is cut down - Daily Mail 10/12/10
In reply to U Barad. You wrote “ you are intrigued by the thought that Christians do worship trees, as many other cultures do.” It certainly would sound interesting and intriguing to many non Christian domination how the tree has significance to Christianity. But you will not know the difference unless and until you know the difference between worship and respected or venerated a site.I visited Glastonbury in mid- April 2010. Surely if you visit Glastonbury as I have done and visited the 'Holy Torn Tree' the most Christian visiting this place stand in silence and very few one in a thousand tie a ribbon (but for the time I was there I didn’t see any one tie a ribbon) people visited like any historical site and showed respected by the visit. To clear with the concept “worship” laid in the minds like U Barad, there was no Incense sticks (Arggabrati) or flowers laid around in rituals or worship. No one removed slippers and walked there, no one chanted any prayers of worship or poured any milk at the tree. I do not criticize the worship but in plain English clarifying the word ‘worship’ used here by U Barad. I saw and noticed all Christian visited this place like any place, and saw most visited out of something called reverence or respect, which I think is normal and why not ? Every human being even a atheist if consider something or someone close, would show respect and reverence don’t they? It is natural, if it is of great importance to any human beings. To understand the difference in these two, we must understand such issues more with a liberal view than the eyes of Hinduism.
Re: [Goanet] Anti-Portuguese resolutions passed by group in Panaji
Reading the Goanet article , on issue relating to Portuguese , I definitely think there is nothing better to do in life than dwell in the past and rot in the dung! Shame on the mentality that we argue and debate on religion in this modern era, have we not progressed from the time where Brahmins would not cross the path of a lower caste, where today a Brahim would happily lives in 5 star hotel and dine the food cooked by may be lower caste , where once he would not pass shadow of? What is shocking is that educated doctors and writers dwell in the same mentality of the in par with uneducated lower mentality, instead of doing better for the ‘good of mankind’ this intelligent wasted on issue “of past and religion converting”, distorted the good, a reader like myself feel disgusted to know the no matter how educated a man is , the education is not of educating the “ mind” but merely certificates to source of money and when it comes to religion he will worship anything he think there is God within it!!! --- On Sat, 27/11/10, Gabe Menezes wrote: From: Gabe Menezes gabe.mene...@gmail.com Subject: Re: [Goanet] Anti-Portuguese resolutions passed by group in Panaji To: Goa's premiere mailing list, estb. 1994!
