As the fun was picking up and people were having fun and frolic. http://skydrive.live.com/play.aspx?path=/photomail/{ddfa3418-2fce-4d83-be83-75f2dfda4f57}&image=112945AE4DB3A962!141&imagehi=112945AE4DB3A962!139&CID=1236596187620157794 There was hullabaloo and uneasy atmosphere. The festivities were on the verge of being disrupted as the result of gate crashing by a well know corrupt minister (he has church in his name but shameless soul hangs up on the hill) who was in Dubai on a private visit. Who says Pig?s can?t fly. We witnessed 100kg Goan pig fly out of nowhere on the roof top of the hotel. We Goans are holy people so we immediately forgive and forget just as we do every election and embrace this politician as if his is our Saviour. And lo and behold out of now where he is at the centre stage taking pictures. It was a disgraceful that this minister came un-invited at the event and vanished in the same speed as he came in. Many of our fellow Gaons took pride to shake hand with this Saviour of Corruption. It shows how thick skin we Goans are. We are willing to worship any God of corruption. I can only hang my head in shame and pray to God to give those people wisdom to distinguish between right and wrong, good and bad. Lord delivery us from these evil forces. Agnelo Pinheiro

[Goanet] Goanet] Coconut Breaking Game (Contest) at Agassaim
You wasted your precious time Joe. The chief guest Mr. Francis Silveira and his brother Antonio will arrive for any function only when they are informed by their chamchas that there is adequate crowd. They are not concerned about the delay but they are more interested in publicity. Furthermore no organizers can commence their event prior to their arrival. We?wanted to be there on time So we arrived on time i.e. 3pm No, it did not start at the stated time nor it started 90 minutes later But it actually did at? 4.55pm. As if they were waiting for their Chief Guest the Local MLA and his brother, Zila Member. No sooner, they arrived than the event started. Local Sarpanch and the panch made it around 4pm though. ? Tip: Next time when you know there is a politician as chief guest, be there at least one hour later than the stated time. In our case, we did not know nor it was said in the ad etc. ? ? The Game: This is the first time I ever watched them playing. It needs two players. One to set the ball (coconut) rolling and the other to hit/break the ball using another hand held coconut as striker. Mostly, the opposition coconut breaks but sometimes both break or none breaks. Yet, there are situations where the opposition?s ball is safe but the hitter?s (Striker) ball breaks All the? winning/losing situations are selectively included in the clip. ? [Goanet] 'Cong ticket or not, Valanka in the fray'
Churchill bab, you are making a grave mistake by portraying only your daughter Valanka as candidate of Benaulim constituency. You should also push your son and wife too, as we ignorant Goans need leaders like you, who can change the parties as and when you like, but will never leave the aam admi. Ignatius Dias Agassaim/UAE Message: 4 Date: Tue, 17 Aug 2010 00:03:32 +0530 From: Goanet News To: "Goa's premiere mailing list, estb. 1994!" Subject: [Goanet] 'Cong ticket or not, Valanka in the fray' (Times of India) Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 'Cong ticket or not, Valanka in the fray' TNN, Aug 16, 2010, 04.02am IST MARGAO: The assembly elections may be two years away but PWD ministerChurchill Alemao on Sunday sounded the bugle for the battle of votes opening the election office of daughter Valanka Alemao whom he once again portrayed as candidate of Benaulim constituency. Significantly, Alemao made it known, albeit in a veiled comment, that he may well be scripting a new and dramatic political move in the run up the elections should Valanka be denied the Congress ticket by the party high command. He dropped broad hints that if push comes to shove, he would be compelled to exit from the Congress. "Congress is a great party, and Sonia Gandhi is a good leader. But in Goa there are some Congress leaders who act like thorns and create problems (for me). When these thorns begin to create problems, I am forced to leave the Congress party. My daughter Valanka will contest the elections on the Congress ticket. But if she is not given a Congress ticket, she would still contest on the people's ticket. You need to have the people on your side to win elections, not the party, nor the money," Alemao said. Valanka, addressing the crowd, echoed senior Alemao's assertions. "I will contest on a Congress ticket. Sonia Gandhi wants women to come forward and so I am confident she will give me the Congress ticket. But whether I get the Congress ticket or not, I will definitely contest the elections," she stressed. Valanka stated that she decided to plunge into politics on the request of the people who urged her to "represent us in the state legislative assembly first and then we will send you to Parliament". She exuded confidence that her long years of social work would stand her in good stead at the elections. Alemao tried to justify Valanka's foray into politics to her natural inclination towards politics coupled with her attributes conducive to her political aspirations. "My daughter Valanka knows politics. Politics has gone into her blood??? When I was an MP she would do the rounds of Parliament and the Supreme Court to listen to the debates." Valanka spoke in agreement with her father's assessment about her. "My work will do the talking first and only then you may cast your votes in my favour," she said. Stating that the "the people of Benaulim have a place in my heart", Alemao senior appealed to the people not to fall prey to "falsehoods that are being spread (about bad condition of roads in the state)" and assured that all roads in bad condition will soon be repaired. Urban development ministerJoaquim Alemao too made a forceful pitch favouring the Congress ticket for his niece. "Valanka will get Congress ticket 200%," said Joaquim.

Goa’s Pacheco may be part of global racket, US tells India Ritu Sarin Tags : Bureau of Diplomatic Security, US State Department, Francisco Xavier ‘Mickey’ Pacheco, CBIPosted: Sun Sep 05 2010, 04:24 hrs Updated: Sun Sep 05 2010, 08:39 hrs New Delhi: The Bureau of Diplomatic Security, a unit of the US State Department, has told India that the former tourism minister of Goa, Francisco Xavier ‘Mickey’ Pacheco, may be involved in a massive immigration and money laundering racket. Pacheco, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and beach parties, resigned as minister on June 6 following allegations of his involvement in the mysterious death of his companion Nadia Torrado. He was arrested on July 9 and bailed on July 26 — around the same time when the US first alerted India about his alleged role in the racket. Top government sources said the Bureau of Diplomatic Security first got in touch with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) through the US mission in New Delhi, and has since backed the allegations against Pacheco with documents and details of banking transactions. The evidence is being described as “substantive and watertight”. After high-level discussions, the MEA passed the case on to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is now making an assessment of the economic and criminal violations the ex-minister might have committed. CBI officials confirmed the receipt and scrutiny of the evidence provided by the Bureau of Diplomatic Security. The US advisory followed the arrest of several Goans at various American airports, all of whom were found to be travelling on fake travel documents, and linked in some way with Pacheco. In several cases where Pacheco had recommended the issual of visas, supporting documents submitted by the applicants were found to be fake or forged. Investigations by US authorities have revealed that Pacheco has, “as of now”, a balance of above $15 million in banks in the US, and has recently made transfers of around $2 million to India. Details of all the relevant bank accounts and transactions have been handed over to Indian authorities. CBI officials said the US has provided the entire documentation in four or five of the illegal travel and immigration cases. In some other cases, details are awaited. The CBI is likely to hand over the cases related to the transfer of foreign exchange to the Enforcement Directorate.
[Goanet] Corrupt system
The outgoing chief of watchdog Mr. Pratyush Sinha said that almost one-third of Indians are “Utterly Corrupt” and half are “borderline”, blaming increased wealth for much of the problem. Transparency International, the global anti-graft body, puts India 84th on its corruption perception index with a 3.4 point rating, out of a best possible score of 10. Sinha also said that in modern India “if somebody has a lot of money, he is respectable. Nobody questions by what means he has got the money”. By no way our politicians will be changed as the whole system is corrupt and all are part and parcel of this system. Ignatius Dias Agassin/UAE
[Goanet] A STAR IS BORN
A STAR IS BORN The title of this post has no relationship whatsoever, with the hit Hollywood move of 1970 in which Barbara Steisand and Christopher shared acting honors. This post is meant to highlight the sports policy of India in general and of Goa, in particular. To begin with, let me make a reference to a young and energetic cricket player, Paul Valuthaty of Kings XI Punjab. This hitherto unknown and unsung player has no stupendous experience and, played only one List-A match for Mumbai in 2006. But on April 13, 2011 this lad redefined cricket history with a blistering and unbeaten knock of 120 runs off only 63 deliveries. Kings XI Punjab then set the pulse racing with a significant six wicket victory over defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the fourth edition of the popular IPL. Again on April 16, 2011 Paul Valthaty hit five sixes and eight boundaries to score 75 runs in just 47 balls agaisnt Deccan Chargers. He also excelled as a seamer with commendable figure of 4-29 to romp home with a deserving victory. In India, we have many talented sportsmen and women but, unfortunately due to lack of exposure and support such talents never see the light of the day. The cricket ex-coach of India Chappel had also confirmed this phenomenon to media on several occasions. And, the proverbial last straw on camel's back is the political clout. The first IPL edition was won by the unfashionable Rajasthan Royals. And our very own Goan cricket hero Swapnil Asonadkar was treated to a royal welcome at the Dabollim airport. But when the Chennai Super Kings won the third edition of the IPL and, also the Champions League Trophy in South Africa our only Goan cricket hero Jakati was received at the Dabolim airport by his parents and a few of his relatives. Now, the less said the better. Such discrimination in the sports policy should be thrown to winds and importance must be given to deserving and talented sportsmen irrespective of caste, creed and religion.Only when Goans display their unity with resoluteness then we can prodly proclaim, A STAR IS BORN tobrighten the Goan skies.
