Re: [Goanet] [Goanet-News] MUSIC: List of bands from Goa

2020-09-24 Thread Maria Do Ceu Santimano De Souza
Hi Frederick,

I would like to bring to your attention that there was a family band = parents
+ 8 children who used to perform in the Panjim gardens, mando festival and
specially in Clube Nacional and Clube Vasco da Gama known as SANTIMANO FAMILY
BAND.

May be the old timers have heard about this famous family band in the mid
60’s???

Hi Blossom, The list is still work-in-progress. There would be many yet to be
included. Fortunately, the Wikipedia allows everyone to edit and add details
there. You too can.

Please could you tell us something about Black IN White? Which years was it
active? Band members mainly from which areas of Goa?

Needless to say, I am only collating this information and don't know it all. FN

Re: [Goanet] THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC RAGES WILD IN GOA

2020-09-07 Thread Maria Do Ceu Santimano De Souza
SUB: STRICT ORDERS TO BE ISSUED due to COVID-19

Could the government of Goa specially the Tourism Minister bring out a STRICT
ORDER to all the hotels , caterers and private real estate agents that

a) any advance reservations done before COVID-19 and monies paid in advance for
any event/WEDDING reception/gatherings/parties from March 2020 for the current
year and if the client has requested cancellation owing to cancellation for the
event/not being able to travel from foreign lands, the whole amount should be
refunded to the clients immaterial of the cancellation policy as pandemics rule
of no parties of more than 10 , large gatherings, weddings are to be held due
to safe distancing and to avoid the spread of COVID-19?

b) any properties/hotel room reservations made and advance payment received
before COVID-19 for reservations after COVID-19 for the whole year ending
31/12/2020, and if the client has requested cancellation owing to not being
able to travel from foreign lands the whole amount should be refunded to the
clients immaterial of the cancellation policy as pandemics rule applies.

This should be implemented as in foreign countries the full amount is refunded
to the clients but in India – specially in Goa, the agents and hotel
proprietors are taking advance of foreign clients.

Re: [Goanet] BIRTHDAYS OF MINISTERS AND MLAs ARE A SPONSOREDTAMASHA

2019-10-13 Thread Maria Do Ceu Santimano De Souza
This is indeed true - use the money genuinely to develop GOA rather than these
expensive advertisements for birthdays. Even if they throw a party in a hotel
sorry should be a 'hanawali' indian restaurant... it wouldn't cost so much !

Subject: [Goanet] BIRTHDAYS OF MINISTERS AND MLAs ARE A SPONSOREDTAMASHA

Viewing the birthday advertisements in the newspapers for MLAs and Ministers is
an awful eyesore. They are also sponsored by builders, contractors in exchange
for illegal favours done. There should be a probe on the source of money for
these advertisements. These advertisements far from being sincere felicitations
to wish the person the very best in the coming year is a petition to tender for
a contract or a favour to be requested or for favours received. Sincere and
genuine birthday wishes should be personal between the two people not in a
public forum hoping that the recipient will read it and be obliged to return
the favour in kind for the money spent by the advertiser.

Yesterday was Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa’s birthday. Last year he was only a MLA
and there were only six advertisements in the Herald. This year he besides
shamelessly embracing the BJP is also the Chairman of the very lucrative South
Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) which is infact a gold mine.
There were a whopping 33 advertisements in the very same Herald. All that money
could have been gainfully used to get rid of all those potholes in the Nuvem
Constituency. The mere fact that the number of birthday advertisements are
dependent on the status of the recipient shows that this is a subtle form of
corruption.

A few days before their birthday, Ministers and MLAs make a farcical appeal to
the people not to release any advertisements but their PAs and henchmen coerce
businessmen and contractors in particular to dig into their pockets.

Why are there no advertisements on birthdays of former MLAs and former
Ministers? It only proves that Power corrupts and absolute Power corrupts
absolutely.

There should be a broad consensus within all the political parties that this
culture of asking people to release advertisements should be totally stopped.
All that money could instead be channelized for the welfare and betterment of
our society.

Subject: [Goanet] Teresa... and the Slum Bum (Remo Fernandes)

By Remo Fernandes
Via WhatsApp

In December 1987, I had an extra day in Calcutta due to a flight cancellation,
and decided to visit Mother Teresa's homes. I didn't think it would be easy to
meet her personally, but as instructed, I pulled the bell string hanging
outside the old gate at Mother House at 3 pm. I told the nun who opened it
that I was just a musician from Goa and had no official work with Mother
Teresa, but would it be possible to see her for just a few seconds? She said
"Of course", and ushered me into the courtyard.

A few minutes later this little 72-year-young lady
comes skipping down a rickety flight of wooden
steps, looks at me with piercing smiling eyes, and
clutches my right hand in between both of hers.

I can't describe what I felt at that moment. Call
it a psychological reaction at meeting such a
personality, but I've never felt it again -- and
I've met quite a few. Personalities, I mean.

A thought came into my mind at that very moment, and it simultaneously came out
through my mouth. "Mother, I would like to compose a song about you, and
contribute it’s earnings towards your work," I managed to speak. "I don't wish
to waste your time, but your blessing is all the inspiration I need." Her eyes
twinkled even brighter. "Sure, my son. Do it. But do it with love".

On the flight back home that evening, I composed
three full songs with lyrics and music. I had
never written more than one song in a day.

I started recording them as soon as I reached home, but couldn't find quite the
right singers in Goa at the time. So I decided to shelve the project for a
while and proceed with singers from Bombay later.

However, I was then at the busiest period of my career, recording my own
albums, shooting music videos, touring India and abroad on concert trips,
endorsing international products such as Pepsi and Shure Microphones... and,
before I knew it, the 'later' had turned into 27 years.

But I never forgot those songs and that intention, and once I left Goa and
settled here in Porto, Portugal, their time had come. As I set out to finally
record them in 2016, those three songs gradually turned into a full-fledged
two-hour musical on the life and work of Mother Teresa, complete with an
overture.

A double album with a total of 26 songs and two instrumentals. It was a
creatively frantic time. I was composing and writing a new song almost before
I had completed recording the previous one. I had never worked this way
before. And now, after I've recorded 35 awesome singers from India, Europe,
USA and UK singing their respective parts in it, it is finally released today,
10th October 2019.

Every cent which comes in from the sales of this alumb is going directly to the
poorest of the poor. My account books will be wide open to anyone who might
wish to visit them.

And I am not going to deduct a cent for the three years that I've worked on it,
or for the cost of recording studios, mastering engineers, instruments, travel,
stay, designing art works and making ad videos. All this is my little
contribution towards the poorest of the poor of this world.

Buying this album will be your most valuable contribution to this project. I
thank you very much for it in anticipation.
Remember, you won't be giving your donation to the poor for free -- I'm giving
you two hours of music in exchange for it.

It is most worthy of mention that every singer mentioned in the ad video
attached here has sung in this album for free.
