[Goanet] HAPPY HOLLIDAY SEASON !

2013-12-10 Thread Oscar Monteiro
Hello Everyone,

Wishing
you and your family Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

Óscar Monteiro

PELA MÃO CEGA DO FADO

P'lo sopro
da mão cega do fado,

Encontro-me
nesta terra natal,

Que certo
dia já foi Portugal,

E o
Mandovi mesmo sossegado,

Espelha a
voz do Tejo agitado.

Caminhando
bem longe de mim,

Eu
passando, o tempo esse não,

Só torno a
encontrar-me, por fim,

Onde fui a
vida do meu coração,

Qu'outrora
foi meu, agora já não.

Partir é pois
morrer um pouco,

Quem parte
sofre até não mais,

Diz o fado
que me torna rouco,

Porque se
deixa o que se ama,

Em busca
de um ideal ou fama

E é deste
lugar telúrico, edénico,

Como soa da boca dos visitantes,

Menos
vozeirado que o Helénico

P'los
vates, trovadores andantes,

Escribas e
mais outros viajantes

Desejo-vos
com o mesmo fervor,

Que
s'arrasta comigo aonde for,

Mesmo nos
cantos sem fulgor,

Dolentes,
longe do sino d'aldeia,

Ledos,
perto da minha Dulcinéia

Aquela
Quadra vetusta, e divina,

Tão álacre,
festiva e de boa paz,

Como o Ano que j'aí vem, assaz,

Cheio de ventura e sonante sina

BOAS
FESTAS !

TRANSLATION FOR MY ENGLISH SPEAKING
FRIENDS

BY THE BLIND HAND OF FATE

By the
breath of the blind hand of fate,

I find
myself in this homeland,

That one
day has been Portugal,

And the
Mandovi, while even quiet,

Reflects
the voice of the Tagus busy.

Walking
far away from me,

I am
passing, but the time not,

I only
find me, eventually,

Where I
was the life of my heart,

Which once
was mine, not anymore.

Departing
it is then dying a bit,

Who
departs suffers even more,

Says the
fado which makes me weep,

Because
one abandons what one loves

In search
of an ideal or fame

It is from
this telluric, paradisiacal,

As one hears
of the mouths of visitors,

But less
promoted than the Hellenic,

By the
poets, errant troubadours,

Writers
and some other travellers

I wish you
with the same fervour,

Which
drags with me wherever I go,

Even at
the corners without fulgor,

Dolent,
far from the bells of the village,

Joyful,
nearby my Dulcinea

That the
vetust season, and divine,

Be so
jubilant, festive and of good peace,

As the
Year, which is approaching fast,

Full of
venture and sounding fate.

HAPPY
SEASON !

If any one of you happens to be going to the Dalgado Konkani Akademi Konkani
Convention at Kala Akademi today evening, could you please inform me as to
whether they have a sale of books in Konkani published in the Roman script? In
particular I'd like to know if there are any Konkani - English dictionaries in
the Roman script available. Thanks.
