[Goanet] Konkani Computer

2009-03-14 Thread Savia Rodrigues
Hi

To all Konkani Lovers,

The Coalition Government in Goa has managed to come to at least one
unanimous decision: they have commissioned Bill Gates to create a Konkani
Version of Windows Vista exclusively for Goa and other Konkan regions in
India .

The Microsoft Team is already hard at work on this new totally new
interactive DVD up-grade, which is to be called

“ZONELAM Vista”.

[Goanet] The Real Slumdog Millionaire?

2009-03-04 Thread Savia Rodrigues
Hi...

When watching Slumdog Millionaire, there was one thing a lot of people did
not understand. In the movie the kids who were from the slums became tour
guides and took white people around on tours. Everyone had the same
question, how did these kids know English. If they are from the slums how
can they pick up one of the most difficult languages in the world?
Well here is a video of a kid from the slums who also happens to be selling
peacock feathers and check out how many languages he knows.

[Goanet] Agonda Beach

2009-02-01 Thread Savia Rodrigues
Hi...

Last Sunday I went to Agonda for a picnic. Before going out there I decided
to do a random search on the place on Google and Agonda was described as a
lonely beach, not commercialised, off beat, etc.. Well, we did have to go a
long way as the place was located in the interiors.

Hi

Here's a review of the restaurant Temptations in Miramar.

Yesterday I had dinner at Temptations, Panjim. I had been there a number of
times when I was studying in Panjim, around 6 years back, and at that point
of time this joint was very famous among all the schools & colleges in
Miramar.

We reached there at 7:15 pm and the place was deserted. There is a pool
parlour next to the restaurant and there were a couple of guys hanging out
there Read the entire post with pictures by clicking the link below.

Hi

Come season time and one finds hyped prices and deteriorating quality
hitting most of the shacks in South Goa. As such, in the last week of
December, we were on the lookout for a decent place to have dinner. I
remembered an attractive place called Archie's that I had gone to a couple
of months ago and decided to try it.

[Goanet] Bread and More- An eating joint in Margao away from the crowded restaurants

2008-12-19 Thread Savia Rodrigues
Hi..

Here's a review of the Eating Joint Bread and More in Margao

"The other day I had to meet a school friend of mine and since Margao has a
lot of packed restaurants in the evening, we were inclined to choose a
restaurant away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

We decided to go to Bread and More which is located in a nice corner near
the BSNL Telephone Exchange and Fatima Convent. There is a lot of parking
space too out there, something one has to keep in mind while shopping in the
crowded streets of Margao. "

[Goanet] Ferry Trip from Cavelossim to Assolna

2008-12-07 Thread Savia Rodrigues
Ferry Trip from Cavelossim to Assolna

If one is staying in Mobor or Cavelossim the best way to get to Assolna is
via the ferry. Just as one has crossed the Cavelossim church square there is
a small road which turns left, exactly opposite the Asro community centre
for AIDS patients.

As one goes on the narrow winding road, there are a lot of houses in the
village, and then one is greeted with a wide expanse of paddy fields. The
fields are green in the rainy season and turn a wonderful golden colour just
before the harvest season. Come summer and you'll find a lot of children
playing football in the fields.

[Goanet] Trek to Savare Waterfalls

2008-12-01 Thread Savia Rodrigues
*Trek to Savare Waterfalls *

The Goa Hiking Association organized a trek to Savare Waterfalls on
9thNovember 2008. There were buses booked to take us to Sanguem taluka
from
Panjim, Vasco and Margao at 8 am, 8:15 am and 9 am respectively. The Margao
group had to assemble below Mabai Hotel. After a very fast ride on my bike
from home I reached at sharp 9am below the hotel only to find that the bus
had not yet arrived. I made a quick call to my friend in Vasco and she told
me the bus had just left Vasco and would reach Margao only by 9:45 am. Talk
about India and IST, it literally translates into Indian Stretchable Time.

The distance from Margao to Netravali is roughly 50 kms. We reached Sanguem
and after quick instructions from the Goa Hiking Association members we were
all set to go trekking towards the Savare waterfalls. There is a small
village out there and we were informed that it is self sufficient and the
villagers grow their own food. This was confirmed as we saw vegetables like
lady finger, tomatoes, etc growing in their backyards and pumpkins growing
on the roof.
