The Kadamba coterie holds that on 16th Oct 1345 the last Goa Kadamba King was assassinated in Goa Velha, Goa. From available information, his visit to India is handled by 'Goodwill of Royal States' an organization headed by ‘ hereditary Coterie’ of ancient Kadamba Empire based in Mysore and Belgaum. According to them this young prince, after his father Sanjayadeva. is the 43nd successor to the founder of the reign of Hangal, and the direct descendant of ancient King Ravivarm-Deva. It has been steadily losing its campus land, as government finds it convenient to simply help itself to campus land, rather than search for alternative sites to locate some of its buildings. University Executive Council sources admit that the university is all the time under tremendous pressure from government to part with additional parcels of its campus. As a state funded university, dependent on government funds and approvals for all its requirements, including filling of faculty posts, service extensions et al the university finds itself at a distinct disadvantage. The current Vice Chancellor has repeatedly pointed this out in the public, arguing for the constitution of a task force of citizens to help draw a master plan to preserve Goa University?s property. From the data, it is quite clear there is scant respect for the geographic integrity of the university campus, by the very entity that set it up and is charged with fostering its present and future growth. Of the 16.30 lakh sq m, the University was allotted when it was set up in June 1985, it has already lost 43,000 sq m to four non educational buildings constructed by government on its campus over the years. Backdrop___ Goodwill of Royal states: is intra government organization built on a firm rock of our proud royal heritage, voluntary association of Indian states within the Indian Union, which consists of former royal areas ruled by the ancient Kadambas Kings and by virtue of their marriages with Gupta Kings and Ganga Kings who together ruled the whole of Indian sub-continent. The Kadamba prominence is proved by the fact that the great Gupta king, ‘Skandagupta’ married one of Kadamba daughters. A second daughter was married to Ganga King Madhava. The offspring’s of these marriages 'the blood cousins', the future heirs lived, were raised and educated together by their royal grand parents in the Deccan, who later inherited their respective kingdoms within the Indian subcontinent , Such blood relationship established strong relations beyond diplomatic ties all over the area as early as (C405-30 C.E). 16th Oct 1345, the Mohammedan attack on Goapuri and Chandrapura, this simultaneous twin cities attack on the Goa Kadambas, the assassination of Kadamba King Suriya Deva and later 1347 fall of the Hangal rule, forced the surviving members of the royal family to move to Southern Capital Velliapura, thier conversion made them invisible to thier enemies, where they continue to live today in present day Velim, South Goa. Re: [Goanet] Thanks Goanet....The Kadambas, The Royals of South India, Our proud heritage, The Secrets of Velliapura
Congrats to the 'Advance research' by Hon'Andrew... very interesting as for my research .its not going any whereI am not getting any co-operation from the Velliapura royal family which makes me think as to what could be the reason for this '...under the rabbit ears' attitude towards this issue. Keeping aside the regional card or the allegation of thief and robbery and absence of law enforcing authority in the Velliapura royal site I will get back to this matter. First let me open a discussion here on Goanet, could be the Catholic church bring in some dispute with the Velliapura family for still harbouring this, will the long arm of the church come after this family with some motion of censure (write to me here on Goanet or privately to my email pls.) let me put before Goanet readers. Velliapura site is an important place in Roque Santana history along with his father he held several secret meetings planning his contribution to Goan freedom struggle, it have been brought to my notice that during the freedom struggle young Roque Santan with his associates in pre liberation times use to disappear from Portuguese surveillance and cross over into Karnataka and spend time with this pilgrims families and used this foreign borderline villages as launching grounds for his attacks on the Portuguese Rule. After Liberation of Goa he made the announcement for early Goan Democracy from this Velliapura site and with the declaration of election he was approached by the people of Ambelim to contest as their representative. Many centuries earlier Velliapura site served as a Southern Capital headquarters for many Goapuri Kadamba Kings and many events recorded in history about Velliapura. After the sudden passing away of Roque Santan in Jan of 2007 while on a visit to United States of America. After his cremation in Brooklyn NY, the Urns containing his mortal remains where flown in this country of his birth, India and the land he loved, Goa by his family and laid to rest along the memorabilia of his royal ancestors as per his wish in the Velliapura royal compound, at the hands of the then Goa Chief Minister Mr. Digambar Kamat, the following December a rival group of Haliyal hereditary workers different from Upadia/Nilkant Sah combine during their visit to Velliapura cracked open the marble tabernacle and opened the Urns and managed to take away what ever they could. This pilgrims mostly come from four groups of Uttara kannada, namely Gonds, Halakis, Havyak and Siddis. With no presence of law enforcing authority around an aide brought this matter to the notice of the grieving widow AnaEmerita in tears in a spurt of anger was heard saying to the group to leave the Urns alone and take away the rest and worship where ever they want and left the compound. The ancient foot long Kannada stone inscriptions and the rest of the antiques were part of the worship area there. Later when the Upadia/Nilkand sah combine appeared the flowing year they were charged of thief and robbery for important ancient antiques which went missing following their last years visit and having denied access to genuine pilgrims, their dirge, an outburst, but fortunately for us ' the secrets of Velliapura' were known to the outsiders. As gathered from the available history the Kadamba sovereigns were hailed and worshiped as 'Dharma Maharajah' or as 'Kadambarasa' meaning supreme or Gods or Godly or sovereign, the members of this hereditary coterie visit Velliapura royal site to pay homage to this ancient place and call themselves 'Pilgrims'. Roque Santana during his life time like his father received all of them who came across the ghats and reciprocated love and respect to this pilgrims here in Velliapura. Karnataka Government hold a 3 day festival every December in Banavasi to celebrate the memories of glorious Kadamba Kings and invite all the subjects of now Kadamba commonwealth, from the ancient Kadamba Kingdoms of Bayalnad, Bankapur, Uchchangi, Nagarkhanda, Kalinga, Belur, Hangal and Goapuri, the area which were governed by Kadamba Raviverma Deva is today divided into parts of Maharashtra, Andhrapradesh, Madhyapradesh now Chhatisgrah, Kerala, Tamilnadu and State of Goa and Karnataka. If there is an invitation or not Goa being the part of the common wealth, Goa Government should send a cultural troop to Banavasi for the festival every December. Unable to get any information, my open question along with the Kadamba Coterie disciples, to the Velliapura royal family is what went missing from the royal compound? What is happening with regards a ' meet' ? between the aging members of the coterie disciples and the 42nd successor to founder of the Kadamba Hangal reign, Mr Sanjay eldest son of Roque Santan wouldn't this news be interesting... ...pre-edit permitted for research purpose The Kadambas, The Royals of South India, Our proud heritage, The Secrets of Vell

Re: [Goanet] Thanks Goanet........Kadambas of South India
part of Mr.Nilkant Sah Paddams writing, he is the coterie disciple. The Kadamba rule in south India is marked by glory and prosperity though the ruling dynasty fell the centuries old organization with its several institutions run by hereditary workers was too strong to fade away became the royal coterie. According to Mr.Upadhiaya assume that Jayesha the grandson of the Kadambarasa of Hangal with the help from his son Malikar II must have carried out their business managed by continuity of hereditary appointments. They are the ones who reinvented the family as Haliyal small businessmen selling timber and construction lime, a Konkan roasted oyster shell product was introduced by them through Haliyal yard while they lived in costal Velliapura. Giving another look through the eyes of Kannada language expert at both cremation stones inscription from Velimpura it can be seen that they are both sponsored by Jayesha ‘…by his grandson’ and the other‘…by her nephew’ equivalent to year 1368AD and 1396AD. It is easy to conclude that Kadamba Purandaria ruler of Hangal lived past his son as cremation rites was carried by his grand son Jayesha. The name of Jayesha’s father who was crown prince (Uvraj of Hangal) is not known. The second stone marks the death and cremation of his father’s sister the Queen of Goa VeenomaiDevi beauty and wife of Suriya-Deva, slain Sovereign at Chandrapur palace and daughter of Late Purandadeva, Kadambarasa of Hangal also confirms this history that in the absence of her own heir the cremation rites were carried by her nephew Jayesha. According to this famous historical source held sacred by Coterie, Purandarai ruler of Hangal and family on the eve of his fall in 1347 secretly traveled over night to joined his daughter who herself took shelter in safer Jayakeshi Velimpura compound in 1345 when her husband was assassinated by Mohammedans at present day Chandor. They both spent the rest of their worldly life in Velimpura. With his father out of picture it must have been Jayesha after the birth of his son Mailkar II deciding for the safety of his family was converted by the Nasranis of Malabar to disguise themselves to Mohammedans commanders of the area in the 1400’s. Syrian origin worship items and anointing oil alabastrons saved by Mr.Upadhiaya’s great grand father who served as ‘Sarva-Karyakarta’ meaning chief secretary, those items which he moved to Belgaum after the 1855 British confiscation of Haliyal compound is convincing evidence. Following that Nasranis conversion they took to Christian names like Tumasa as of St.Thomas. From Haliyal stone inscriptions of 1509 ‘enemy turned into friend’.We get the name of Irivinda Tomasa, grand son of Mailkar II, Tomasa had made a deal of mutual co-operation with Timu the Konkan sea pirate to keep the Mohammedans away. Timu in those crucial years provided protection for their ancestors in Haliyal yard in return for timber for his shipbuilding needs. According to Mr.Upadhiaya this timberyard which was located separately east from the Goa Kadamba Haliyal fort was basically Goa ruling reigns armoury. If we superimpose this period in history we can derive that soon after the deal Timu went a step further and brought his friends at sea namely Portuguese troops and announced his administration in Goa . The Haliyal compound was with the Velliapura Roqiue Santana family descendents until the British confiscation in 1855. permited for research purpose. ;- Kadambas, the royals of south India, our proud heritage, the secrets of Velliapura. Sadly, religion can be used to rouse the rabble. The Moghul Empire spawned satraps who were generals with their own ambitions, becoming nawabs and Nizams. Re: [Goanet] Last Kadamba King (eric pinto)
As Claimed by local MLA Mr. Vishnu Wagh that the urns containing the ashes of the Kadamba King Beira could be under the partially visible stone arc under the mud dump near the ' Royal road' at the foot of the Pillar hill which needs to be excavated. It is to be noted that most inscriptions stones mark an event that happened under their governance. The Kadamba era stones of 12th century are in Devanagari script, even those found in Bombay Museum. So also Jaykesha I Velliapura Southern Capital site Victory stone is in Devanagari script too while the 1360's Kadamba era stones from Velim cremation site are in Kannada Script which means there was a cultural change in the same family. Going by Ibn Batuta, the Arab traveler or others, the attack period is 100% same 1344 or 1345 when converted from the older calender systems to roman calender systems but the writings of Ibn Batuta are little confusing that father and son called the muslims much reliable are the Kannada stone information that ...after the father the half brothers fought to claim the throne and the unfortunate one called the muslims sounds more eventful. The number when converted to roman calender systems can be 1344 or 1345 or 1346 so too the deaths dates can be 1364 or 1366 or 1368 so also it can be 1396 to 1399. Now the historical question arises as to who was in the position to sponsored and installed this 1354 inscription, it cannot be the royal family as they were all wiped off by 1345, during this time the surviving Queen was living with her Hangal family in secret Veliapura site never known to Muslims or else they would slaughter them too.like other dates this date is confusing but going by the flow of circumstances the Muslims would not allow the royal to survive under them. After the attack by the Nawab of Honnavar, Goa was under the Muslims so there is no way King Beira lives and dies in 1354 ten years after the attack. If it is the Muslims victory inscriptions announcing the death of the opponent King they would have been in Arabic. If the inscriptions were put up by the royal family they must have been from normal times therefore it looks like Beira death inscriptions are before the final attack of 1345, as the family had time to do so and mourn his death. Mr.Venkatesha Upadhayaya who visits Velim is a Kannada Brahmin who having descended from a family who performed ‘Yagna’ meaning sacrificial rituals for the Kadamba King Mayurvarma and later as equivalent of ‘Sarva-Karyakartas’ meaning chief secretary and lived in Haliyal Timber and Construction Lime compound of the Hangal Kadamba family as family's business managers up to 1855 when Governor of Madras presidency George Harris under Lord Dalhousie administration confiscated the whole thing, He is inspired by his family historical hereditary occupation and also by his late grandfather a native of Belgaum, his family had migrated to England in 1940’s. Mr.Venkatesha Upadhayaya along with others villagers of Karnataka visit Velim once a year, a centuries old practice and as part of the Banavasi festival celebrations to pay their respect to Hangal family. Now this issue was completely unknown to others and very confusing to locals due to a close secret bond of respect between the royals, the Hangal section of the Kadamba descendants living in Velim and their subjects until the death of Roque Santana who secretly reciprocated the respect to their hereditary workers of Haliyal. As made known through Mr. Upadhayaya there was no love lost even when young Roque Santana went against his own father and Kadamba coterie wish and contested elections as peoples representative, according to their coterie the freedom and Democracy was brought into Goa by Roque Santana for the people, is of the people and by the people where as this family is not. His eldest son Sanjaya and his mother have no place for these according to them, so called 'pilgrims' who come across the ghats to pay respect to the site, all this leading to Mr.Upadhayaya losing temper on 21st Dec 2013 when denied access to the historical compound, calling upon the Archaeology to save the Velim Jaykeshi I site from destruction. For the coming 3 months during my spare time I could be working on the argument 'Queen Venomai adopting her brother the Uvraj of Hangal as her heir and upon his death his son, her nephew Jayasha' put up by Mr.Venkatesha Upadhayaya regarding the Velim Jaykeshi I site and Haliyal compound both properties of Goa Kadamba in the possession of the Velim family up to the time it was lost to British confiscation and how Mr.Venkatesha Upadhayaya numbers late Roque Santana as the 41st successor to Kadambarasa Irivabeda Deva the founder of Hangal reign partly from the recorded history and partly from the year and name plates of iron burning on wood that was sold from the Haliyal timber yard, the ancient business management process and how the family was positioned to remodeled the ancient Vell

[Goanet] Congratulation and hats off to Mr.Vishnu ‘SURIYA’ Wagh, MLA
Congratulation and hats off to Mr.Vishnu ‘SURIYA’ Wagh, MLA for his solo efforts in the Goa legislative Assembly to unearth Goan history ‘The Kadamba’s. the last known Kadamda King who ruled Goa for as few as 100 days was known as “SURIYA- DEVA” (name similar to Vishnu 'SURIYA' Wagh) this information is known through Kannada stone inscriptions found at Velliapura or Velliapatnum present day Velim in Salcete, South Goa. According to Mr.Venkatesha Upadhiaya a cremation stone of 1396 where Queen Venomaih –Devi wife of Kadamba Suriya-Devawas cremated in Velim by her Nephew Jayesha of Hangal. After the death of Goa Kadamba Beera Deva Verma, his sons from both his wives claimed the thrown but his Ministers endorsed his first wife’s son ‘Suriya Deva’ as the legal successor, unhappy over the endorsement his half brother in 1345 called Mohammedans to destroy the kingdom and there was a sudden attack on the Goa killing the whole royal family including the half bother’s family. According to another Kannada stone inscriptions from Hangal the only royal family member who survived the 1345 Mohammedan attack was the young Queen of Goa Venomiah-Devi as she was send away to her fathers place in Hangalin observance of religious mourning period due to the death of her father in law 3 months earlier. Vemomaih Devi was the daughter of the King Kadamba of Hangal. According to Mr. Upadhiaya’s interpretation the young Queen was sent away by Goa palace elders to avoid temptation to King Suriya Deva of sexual activity during religious mourning period observed due to the death of his father. Upon her arrival in Goa after the 1345 attack she was taken into hiding in Velliapura by the kingdoms blacksmiths her brother's family joined her in Velliapura after the fall of the Kadamba's of Hangal in 1347, Mr.Upadhiya Visits Velim every year in Dec/2013 Deccan Herald, Press Release/Nilkanth Sah Paddaam, Belgaum. Velim, 11 kilometers from Margao, South Goa. Dec. 21st 2013. Mr.Venkatesha A. Upadhiaya today submitted a memorandum to the President of India Mr.Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Mr.Manmohan Singh and Mr. Pravin Srivastava of Archeological Survey of India ASI, demanded to immediately acquire and save the 12th century, Kadamba Jayakeshi Southern Capital Velimpura site which is also the cremation ground of the last Ruler of Hangal located in present day Velim, South Goa ‘a place of National Interest’ from the possession of Mrs Ana Emerita, widow of a great Goan, late Roqiue Santana charging her for constructing on the scared grounds, denying access by locking the compound gates and playing regional card with the pilgrims from the neighboring villages of Karnataka who visit Velim once a year, a centuries old practice and as part of the Banavasi festival celebrations to pay their respect to the 1368AD Velimpura cremation ground of Purandarai-Deva the ruler of Hangal. Warning the locals who were present here today not to be silent spectators to injustice done to the glorious historical past Mr. Upadhiaya a native of Belgaum lamented while reacting to regionalism that prior to his death in 2007 Roqiue Santana like his father in Portuguese colonial times always gave a warm welcome and supply of drinking water as a gesture of respect to the Kannada visitors at the site. Roqiue Santana popularly known as Father of Goa’s Democracy was the local elected representative to liberated Goa legislative Assembly. “No doubt this family is Goan, like thousands of Goans they are of Deccan origin too”. Mr. Upadhiaya said. Earlier, a man who walked up behind the secured gates calling himself the security for the Roqiue Santana family charged last years pilgrims of criminal mischief, theft and robbery as important antiques went missing following last Dec. pilgrims visit and said that the family has moved out of this country and ordered the driver of the tour bus to get going. Leading the pilgrims Mr. Upadhiaya 82, denied the allegation here today in Velim saying that we are always protective of the family and do respect their privacy and recollected his family’s ancestors ties as ‘Sarva-Karyakartas’ meaning chief secretary, a hereditary appointment up to the time when Governor of Madras presidency George Harris under Lord Dalhousie administration confiscated the Haliyal Timber and Construction Lime Co. goods of Roqiue Santan’s greatgrand father in Nov of 1855. Mr. Upadhiaya held that most of the pilgrims are the descendants of the family’s Haliyal compound work force. Historians hold that Haliyal yard was basically Goa ruling Reigns Armoury and is today converted into Haliyal Bus Terminal. In his memorandum he urged Archeological Survey Of India (ASI) to atleast save this Velim landmark for future generations. According to this famous historical source held sacred by Hangal Coterie, Purandarai ruler of Hangal and family on the eve of his fall in 1347 secretly traveled over night to joined his

Nunes Wed, 09 Apr 2014 06:35:04 -0700 12th century Kadamba Jayakesi I, Velliapura site in present day Velim, South Goa . There is lot of information translated by Kannada language experts from ancient stone inscriptions on Velliapura of which they themselves don’t know the whereabouts of this place, as this place being under Portuguese for 451 years is almost foreign to them. Very little information about Velliapura is written by world renowned Historian George M. Moraes in Kadamba Kula, the history of Ancient and Medieval Karnataka as he never came across the 'coterie'. This place is very well known to small number of members of the Coterie who come across the ghats to Velliapura Jayakesi site present day Velim every year as pilgrim and link Roque Santana ancestors as the descendant of Hangal section of this ancient family so as a search for this link as to why this pilgrims who come to pay homage to this ancient place call themselves as 'Pilgrims'? and If this site belongs to Jayakesi of Goa, why the family living in it is linked to the descendants of Hangal?. As gathered from the available resource that the Kadamba sovereigns were hailed as 'Kadambarasa' meaning supreme or Gods or Godly or sovereign therefore the members of this coterie call themselves as pilgrims. The inscription stones in kannada found at Velim site tell that descendant of Jayakesi of Goa, Suriya-Deva'1345CE slain-ed sovereign of Chandrapura ' his wife 'Vinomaih-devi' was the daughter of 'Kadambarasa of Hangal', Purandara-Deva, died and was cremated in Velliapura by her nephew Jayesha, grandson of Purandara of Hangal. According to Haliyal stone inscription this same Jayesha founded a small timber business in Haliyal, over the centuries family owned and operated this business which was only source of income for them and their workers by hereditary who call themselves as coterie, was confiscated by the British Governor George Harris in 1840's and most of this pilgrims are the descendants of those workers . According to their resource after the 1345 massacre the surviving Queen 'Vinomaih devi' moved away from the furious Mohammedans in Chandrapura present day Chandor and was taken into hiding in this royal compound by the foothills of Velliapura by the kingdoms blacksmiths, her father and brother joined her sometime thereafter. After their death the descendants were converted to Nazrani Christianity for fear of Muslims from there on they are in possession and actually still lives here on this historical site. therefore they hold that the family living in Velliapura site are the descendants of Purandarai of Hangal. Jayakesi I son of Shashtha-Deva was a very powerful ruler, 12 century copper carvings tell us that princes and lords from neighbouring kingdoms traveled in to Chandrapur present day Chandor to pay homage to Jayakesi who was the Sovereign of Konkan. Velliapura viragal tell that Jayakesi I himself in a battle with his rival to retain this place Velliapura won a decisive victory, which was his southern capital, three horses stables and few officials residences were destroyed in the battle according to the Kannada version the days following the victory the wives of the commanding officers or soldiers celebrated in the royal compound by lighting and floating ‘ponti’ in the royal pond ‘Toloai’ in front of the capital building. According to Portuguese record of 1922, a complaint was filed with the Portuguese ‘Regdor’ by the ancestors of Roque Santana following the excavation of that toloai. The Coterie has always objects to the family members contesting direct elections in present day Democratic setup saying it is of the people, by the people and for the people and this family is not, In1962 they objected to Roque Santan contesting the first ever election in Goa, earlier they hailed his 'Satyagraha' to bring Democracy to the people of Goa. I first visited 12th century Kadamba Jayakesi I, Velliapura, site in Sept of 2006, the compound gates were secured when I inquired with the neighbours they directed me to a man wh

Re: [Goanet] ' father of Goan Democracy'.
I am working on avery old research paper form Goa archive that says that soon after liberation Roque Santana wanted to do away with the ‘zoan’ enjoyed by the settlers from Carambolim, further this article says that this settlers never voted Roque Santana. The origin of this dispute goes back to 1920’s when this pro-Portuguese settlers excavated 12th century Velliapura Kadamba Jayakeshi I Southern Capital site ,present day Velim the the property of the Roque Santana family and converted it into a paddy field in order to wipe the glorious history. In this paper it is noted that these group as ‘angels in disguise’. in addition, Speaking during the Goa Revolution day function at Azad maidan on Tuesday 18th June 2013. Mr. Chandrakant Kenkre, President Goa Freedom Fighters Association pointed out differences within , which came as a surprise to the attendees. Freedom fighters are responsible for the current situation they are facing."We have jealousy towards each other" he said. As a part of my research project I met many in Velim who are just jealous of this whole issue and i did notice many were jealous of late Roque Santana so much so they tried to change topics or attempted to tell their stories. [Goanet] 50 years celebration of Goa Legislative Assembly
As we celebrate the end of 50 years celebration of Goa Legislative Assembly Goans cannot forget the mega role of ‘Father of Goan Democracy’ Mr.Roque Santana as our elders didn’t know what was Democracy or Election and the power of voting. Following the end of Portuguese rule in 1961, Goa was placed under military administration headed by Lt. Gen. Candeth. But suddenly on June 8, 1962, military rule was replaced by civilian government when the Lt. Governor formed an informal Consultative Council of 29 nominated members to assist him in the administration of the territory. Its is Mr.Roque Santana alone a great Goan thinker objected to Lt.Governor’s nominations and introduced us Goans to ‘Democracy’. For over 450 years the Portuguese dictated rule in Goa . Goans did not know what was Democracy and Election. Even after liberation of Goa this Portuguese-type practice of nomination to run the administration of Goa continued by Lt. Governor. This young freedom fighter from Velim could no longer tolerate brute nominations for administrations of Goa . . He turned down all personal offer from Lt. Governor and crusade the lengths of Goa opposing this issue. He held public meets in Mapusa, Ponda, Vasco, Panjim and Margao. This time Roque Santana knew he had to fight again and alone and in a unique way, he thought of the Gandhian way as after liberation he had turned to non-violence. Still recovering from grave wounds he suffered from gun battles with Portuguese police force, on June 11th 1962 he went on fast unto death, ‘Satyagraha’ in front of Historical Margao Municipality Bldg. Thousands of Goans demonstrated closed down streets and shouted slogans against the Lt. Governor. Three days into it Prime Minister Nehru intervened into this first ever post-liberation Goan unrest and persuaded him to end his Satyagraha with a promise to fulfill his demand. The next day Mr. Nehru send his close friend Mr.Gopal Handoo to Velim to meet him. In the presence of his father Mr.Avelino, Roque Santana proposed Equality in Election and Democracy as promised in the Preamble and Constitution of India for Goans. On 20th June 1962 at a meeting with Prime Minister Nehru in Anand Bhawan, New Delhi Roque Santana accompanied by Mr.Handoo submitted a memorandum which is now part of PM’s library, for a 35 member Goan legislative assembly which include Daman and Dui for the union territory of Goa, Daman and Dui and three parliamentary seats for Goa namely Panjim, Vasco and Ponda parliamentary constituencies. Roque Santana stressed the 35 odd number seats for Goa Assembly in consultation with his father Avelino so that the winning party gets a clear majority with the speakers vote for Government vote of confidence to avoid a hang situation or Presidents rule. However his original memorandum and odd number theory was amended at the implementation level by the Election commission with regards to ground condition population count in Goa , Earlier in that same memorandum Roque Santana took the opportunity to thank Prime Minister Nehru personally there during the meet, for his action of 1955 which had given him a second shot of his life. It has to recollected on the eve of 17th June, 1955 Roque Santana was mortally injured by the Portuguese forces in Chandor, South Goa in their attempt to free the Salcete island. He was shot nine times by the Portuguese police. It is said that he was considered dead, many locals recollect that it was at that time words came out of his father Avelino’s mouth of the historical bad luck for the family at Chandrapura but never gave up hope and postponed the last rites. It is a historical fact that Prime minister Nehru’s warning statement for Portuguese, carried by newspapers in Goa and Bombay on the Roque Santana shooting in Chandor lead to his shifting for better medical treatment to Reibandar Hospital had saved his life. Following two years he suffered partial paralyzes in solitary confinement in Aguada jail. Goans say Roque Santana true to his ancestry the young worrier survived and went on to be recognized as the single hand force in Goa, This type of Portuguese attacks on the locals prompted Prime minister Nehru to take action. On 19th Dec 1961 Goa was liberated by the Indian armed forces, along with other freedom fighters Roque Santana was released from prison. After this 20th June 1962 meet with PM Nehru in Anand Bhawan, New Delhi the mega process for democracy for Goa was started . It was at this stage after declaration of election in Goa we see prominent industrialists like Mr. Dayanand Bandodkar and Dr. Jack de Sequiera, came on the Goan political field to use this platform of Democracy and Elections brought in by hard efforts of Roque Santana, they formed parties namely MGP(Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party) and UGP(United Goans Party) and contested elections and
