[Goanet] day's final report

2018-01-31 Thread Stanislaus P. Dsouza
*10 Indian men, 8 women enter finals of SpiceJet India Open*

*New Delhi, January 31:*

Indian boxers ruled the ring, with eighteen of them — including 10 men and
8 women — storming into the finals of the SpiceJet India Open International
Boxing Tournament at the Thyagraj Indoor stadium here on Wednesday.

Running a distant second was classy Uzbekistan, who saw all their seven
boxers sailing through smoothly from the semifinals into the finals. World
boxing giants Cuba, who had four in the semifinals, saw three of them take
their places in the title round; only Toirac Yohandi Ortega was ousted in
the superheavyweight final, losing 0-5 to the towering Uzbekistani
Bakhodir Jalolov.

India’s charge into the final was led by none other than Mary Kom, Sarita
Devi and Pinki Rani in the women’s session while Manish Kaushik and Dinesh,
who upset Manoj Kumar, led the men’s charge into the finals.

Shiva Thapa fell by the wayside in the men’s semifinals. Hindered by a
slight wrist injury, he failed to unravel Manish Kaushik, just like he
couldn’t during the recently-held nationals.

Southpaw Manish looked in fine fettle and used his speed and power to win
5-0 in the lightweight category. “I had no pressure on me so I fought
freely,” he said, shortly after his victory. “I instigated him and then
went on the attack,” he added.

Five-time world champion Mary Kom suffered some early hiccups in the
opening round against her taller and stronger Mongolian opponent
Altansetseg Lutsaikhan in the light-fly category. She promptly changed her
strategy in the second to turn the bout on its head.

She began by fighting from close quarters only to realise that it wasn’t a
good tactic against the aggressive Mongolian, who cleverly used her height,
reach and power to her advantage. In the next rounds, she opted to maintain
a safe distance, before launching into short-burst attacks.

That was enough to throw the Mongolian out of her rhythm and Mary piled on
the points for a 4-1 victory.

She takes on Josie Gabuco, an impressive all-round boxer from the
Philippines, in the final.

Sarita Devi overcame her Indian counterpart Priyanka Choudhary 4-1 in the
light-weight category while Thai girl Chuthamat Raksat found Pinki Rani too
to handle, going down 0-5 in the flyweight division.

Sarita next meets the strong and aggressive Finland girl, Potkonan Mira
Marjut, who more than packs a punch, in the final while Pinki takes on
Ochirbat Jargalan of Mongolia.

Kaushik stuns Cuban; Shiva, Sarjubala cruise in Spice Jet India Open

New Delhi, January 29:

India’s World No. 3 Shiva Thapa, Manish Kaushik and Sarjubala led the
country’s charge into the next round of the SpiceJet India Open
International Boxing tournament at the Thyagraj Indoor stadium here on
Monday.

Boxers from Thailand and the Philippines too had a fairly successful day
with a couple of their boxers coming through to the second round.

Thailand's Thani Narinram, simply proved too tough for Sachin Siwach in
their light fly clash and sneaked home with a split decision win.

In another close bout in the same category, Ramel Jr. Macado of the
Philippines had to fight off a strong challenge from Uzbekstan's Mironshokh
Ibragimov, the former squeezing home 3-2.

Cuba stormed back from their reverse result in the morning with the two
remaining boxers on show in the evening session, Jorge Vinent Moiran (light
welter) and David Osvary Gutierrez (light heavy), advancing into the next
round with convincing wins.

Shiva started his campaign with a resounding 5-0 victory over Bhutan's
Dorji Wangdi. He didn’t exert himself though, preferring to reserve his
energy for the sterner stuff ahead.

Dorji, however, didn’t look overawed by his accomplished opponent, even
cleverly going into a shell each time Shiva came out attacking.

Shiva boxed smartly, prying open his opponent's guard and picking his spots
effectively.

Manish also turned in a stellar performance against Cuba’s Martinez Rabi in
the lightweight category. The Cuban found Manish a hard target as the
Indian moved around the ring, bobbing and weaving, often forcing his
opponent to miss his shots. Manish himself unleashed his venomous left
hooks, uppercuts and jabs to good effect, often catching the Cuban by
surprise as the crowd egged him on. He eventually went on the win the bout
by a narrow verdict 3-2.

Sarjubala was in a league of her own as she peppered her Kenyan opponent
with a flurry of short bursts, mixing her jabs and combinations with
fluency. The Kenyan was not one to give up though; she too came out with
all her guns blazing. The final outcome was a no-brainer as the diminutive
Indian sailed home 5-0 victor.

In a major upset in Indian boxing, seasoned campaigner, Devendro Singh went
down 1-4 to Laldin Mavia after the bout was halted in the third round when
the boxers' heads clashed as Devendro lunged in during a charge, resulting
in Laldin suffering a head injury, resulting in the bout being stopped.

Rules suggest that in such unintentional cases, the scores are taken into
account until the stoppage of the bout and the boxer leading at that point
is declared winner. In this case, it was Laldin who went through.

Sumit Sangwan, another Indian stalwart suffered a bloodied cheekbone but
sailed home with a unanimous points verdict over fellow Indfian Virender
Kumar.

Not much to cheer for Goan teams on Day 4 of RFYS Nationals

Mumbai, Dec. 31: Goan teams found the going difficult day on Day four of
the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports National Football Championship as Our
Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda boys and Rosary Higher Secondary
School, Navelim girls lost their matches here on Sunday.
Our Lady of Rosary suffered a 1-6 defeat at the hands of group toppers
Minerva Public School, Chandigarh in their junior boys group match while
Rosary HSS went down 2-5 to Umthli Secondary School, Shillong.
Milder Soares 59th minute goal was the sole consolation for Our Lady
of Rosary, who crumbled under the Minerva onslaught in the second session.
All seven goals of the match came in the second half with Luntingmang
Haokip (three), Arjun Sharma (two) and Ajjoruddin Shah scoring for Minerva.
Our Lady of Rosary’s semifinal chances are as good as over as they have
lost two matches and their final group game is on Tuesday against a strong
OM Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School from Shillong.
Rosary HSS put up a better show against Umthli but the Shillong team packed
too many guns. Player of the match Marbarin Nongrum led the way with four
goals while Nisilia Majaw scored the other. Somaaya Mukundan (37th minute)
and Beverly Cardoso (48th min) did breach the rival defence but it did
little to unsettle Umthli.
The Navelim school girls, however, are still in contention despite the
defeat. They have one win and one loss against their name but if they win
their last group match against Kadathanad Rajas Higher Secondary School,
Kozhikode they can become the second team after leaders Umthli to make the

Rosary School, Fr Agnel College feature in RFYS National opening day
Mumbai, Dec 27: Two teams from Goa will be in action on the opening day of
the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football national championship that
gets underway here on Thursday.
Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim will take on Minerva Public School,
Chandigarh in a senior boys match in the morning while Father Agnel College
of Arts and Commerce, Pilar will meet St Joseph's College of Commerce,
Bangalore in a college boys encounter later in the evening.
The National Championship is a culmination of intense competition spread
over the past four months beginning with the City Championships featuring
more than 3,400 institutions and 4,400 teams from 17 centres across the
country and then the Zonal Championships at six centres. It has resulted in
a collection of 32 best school and college teams in four categories --
junior boys, senior boys, college boys and school girls. Eight teams are
pooled in two groups in each category and they will be playing against each
other in a league format with the top two progressing to the semifinals.
Kolkata, Goa and Shillong have hogged the limelight in the tournament so
far as their teams have made it to the National Championship in all four
categories.
The 10-day Nationals will end with the semifinals on January 3 and 4, 2018
and the finals on January 6, 2018. It will be played at two venues --

The winning teams in each category will be rewarded prizes worth Rs 3 lakh
while the runners-up team will be richer by Rs one lakh. A scholarship of
Rs 10,000 will also be presented to 20 select players.
With as many as 4,390 teams lining up this season, the RFYS football
tournament is easily one of the largest grassroots football tournaments in
the country.
In its second year of existence, the tournament has carved a niche for
itself at the junior level and has already become a strong medium to scout
talents with eight players from last year making to India U-23 selection
trails for the AFC Qualifiers.
Another success story of the RFYS is Ajith Sivan, a 21-year- old from Kochi
who has been snapped up by the Kerala Blasters as a developmental player
for the next season of Indian Super League.
The tournament adheres to FIFA norms, with match duration varying according
to the age categories. They are officiated by AIFF licensed referees,
providing the most conducive environment for the young champions.

*Fr Agnel, Our Lady of Rosary rise to the top in RFYS zonals*

Pune, Dec 7: Goan teams -- Fr. Agnel College of Commerce and Our Lady of
Rosary High School and Ahmedabad's My Own High School, took pole position
with an unbeaten record in their respective categories in the Reliance
Foundation Youth Sports West Zone football championship at the DSK
Shivajians Football Field here on Thursday.

Fr. Agnel's first-half goal put an end to Shree MP Shah Commerce College's
(Ahmedabad) stiff resistance as eked out a narrow 1-0 victory in a college
boys league match. The all-important goal was scored by the Goan team's
prolific striker Chandan Gavas in the 40th minute.

Fr. Agnel's second victory not only swelled their points tally to six but
also put them on the top of standings in their category. MP Shah have just
three points from two matches.

The Senior Boys’ category is interestingly poised with Hiramani School,
Ahmedabad and Mumbai's Thakur College of Commerce and Science sharing the
top spot with 4 points each. Incidentally, both have a similar +3 goal
difference as well.

Hiramani School got into the mix after they held Rosary Higher Secondary
School, Goa to a 2-2 draw.

After Raj Singh had put Hiramani in the lead with a second minute strike,
they were undone in the 55th minute when Siddhant Pranay's deflection
landed in his own goal. Spurred by the unexpected goal, the Rosary lads
stepped up the charge took the lead for the first time in the match through
Denson Fernandes' 63rd minute goal. Hiramani, however, did not let the
reversals affect them as Suraj Singh netted the equaliser with a 77nd
minute goal.

In the junior boys, Our Lady of Rosary High School, Goa raced to the top
with a 1-0 win over Anand Niketan School, Ahmedabad. Clifford Noronha
(47th) netted the match winner. They lead the standings with six points
while Anand Niketan and Mumbai's Don Bosco High School are battling for the
second spot with three points each.

In the school girls, Ahmedabad's My Own School made it two in a row with a
3-1 win over Rosary Higher Secondary School, Goa.

A brace by Anjana Thakor (26th & 37th) after an opening strike by Shilpa
Thakor (4th) accounted for My Own School's tally. Fevina Costa's 15th
minute goal was the only consolation for the Goan side.

My Own top the school girls table with six points while Rosary and Mumbai's
Father Agnel Multipurpose School and Junior College have three points each.

*LEAGUE RESULTS*

[Goanet] RFYS final report/results and pictures

2017-11-11 Thread Stanislaus P. Dsouza
Dear friends in the media, thank you for your whole hearted support and
coverage of our tournament. We look forward to your support in publishing
the final report today.

Fr. Agnel college are Goa RFYS champions

Rosary HSS senior boys and girls ensure a double;

Panjim, Nov11: Ten-man Father Agnel College of Arts, Science and Commerce,
Pilar, came up with a stubborn display to first deny SS Dempo College of
Commerce and Economics, Panjim any breakthrough in regulation time before
coming up trumps 4-1 in the tie-breaker in the college boys final to emerge
champions of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports football tournament at
the Tilak Maidan, Vasco on Saturday.

SS Dempo held the lion's share of the exchanges, combined well in midfield
and attacked mostly from the right flank to break through the Fr. Agnel
defence. Somehow their forwards fell short at the finish with either
wayward shots at goal or finding the goalkeeper Abhishek Hadkonkar's hands.

Fr. Agnel looked a bit tired after playing a tough semifinal against
Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sanquelim on Friday. With
no time to recover, they looked a bit jaded but made up for their tiredness
with a never-say-die display as they fought tooth and nail to match their
rivals.

If Dempo's forays came from swift counters, Fr. Agnel was methodical in
their build-up and often used the right flank to break free. Chandan Gawas
was a work horse in midfield and garnered support from Ganesh to harness
their forwardline where Chatur Naik burned the turf on the right flank to
float crosses into the box. But his penchant for holding onto the ball a
wee bit longer often saw him lose control or find the opponent defender in
the box.

With play restricted to midfield and no goalmouth thrills, the teams went
into the breather without breaking the deadlock.
The second half was a repeat of the first with both defences holding sway,
refusing to relent. Fr. Agnel came close to scoring in the 48th minute but
Chatur's measured cross was headed to safety by Kellen Colaco after
goalkeeper Sherwin DaCunha was beaten.

Then in the 52nd minute Gautam Dias who had a productive game, sent in a
floater from the right flank towards the second post but goalkeeper
Abhishek Hadkonkar, who eventually emerged player of the match for his
spectacular performance under the bar, especially in the penalty shootout,
leaped high to palm the ball away.

Then in the 75th minute Fr. Agnel were reduced to 10 men when their
hardworking medio Chandan Gawas was shown the red card for chopping down
Praveen Bandodkar.

Dempo should have exploited the one-man advantage but somehow their efforts
were stonewalled by a switch in strategy employed by coach Venanceo
Gonsalves who pulled back his midfielders and employed the swift counter to
catch the Demp[o defence off guard.

The defensive ploy worked as Dempo simply couldn’t break free as a result,
the match ended without a goal being scored.

In the tiebreaker, Fr. Agnel goalkeeper Abhishek Hadkonkar stopped Dion
Fernandes'shot while Latish Kunkolikar shot out. Salu Santos was the only
Dempo player successful from the spot.
Ronil, Dhiraj Fatarpekar, Kunal Kondaikar and Ganesh were on target for Fr.
Agnel.

In the girls final, Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim, pumped in two
first half goals to silence Regina Martyrum for a 2-0 victory to claim the
girls crown. Soummya Mukundan struck in the 13th minute before skipper
Jeromina Colaco found the back of the net five minutes later.

In the junior boys final, player of the match, Maxwell Furtado's 49th
minute goal proved sufficient for Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda
to pip Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School for the crown.

The senior boys final was a one-sided affair with Rosary Higher Secondary
School, Navelim peppering Vasantrao Dempo Higher Secondary School 8-2 after
leading 4-0 at the lemon break.

The star performer for Rosary was Joybert Almeida who scored a hat-trick
for the Player of the match award.

FC Goa goalkeeper Laxman Kattimani who was one of the chief guest of the
evening, was all praise for the tournament and said this tournament was an
ideal platform for all the age groups, boys and girls, to showcase their
talent and catch the eye of clubs and coaches. “It is one of the best
things to happen to Indian football as the tournaments are being held
simultaneously in all parts of the country,” he said.
The chief guest of the evening were Dempo College principal Dr. Radhika
Naik, Fr. Frederick Rodrigues, Principal of Fr. Agfnel's College and Arnold
Costa, GFA executive committee member who gave away the prizes.

Winners of the Golden Gloves, Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards in the
various categories:

Rosary HSS, OLPS flex muscles to enter RFYS finals
Panaji, Nov 9: Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim and Our Lady of
Perpetual Succour, Cortalim, defending champions in the senior and junior
boys, showed why they have been the best in schools football in Goa when
they stormed into the final of their respective categories of the Reliance
Foundation Youth Sports tournament at the Tilak Maidan ground here on
Thursday.
In the semifinals, Rosary HSS routed Shree Ameya Vidyaprasarak Mandal
Higher Secondary School 6-2 to set up a final date for the senior boys’
title with Vasantrao Dempo Higher Secondary School of Arts and Science who
upstaged St Xavier’s Higher Secondary School,
Mapusa 2-1. OLPS edged out Assumpta Convent High School 2-1 for a summit
clash in the junior boys with Our Lady of Rosary High School who eased past
Progress High School 3-1. The finals will be played on Saturday at the same
venue.
The semifinal between OLPS and Assumpta was a tightly fought encounter in
the second half. Assumpta looked to be at the receiving end for most of the
first half but goalkeeper Bevan Fernandes showed maturity beyond his age,
bringing off four saves, two shots coming off the boot of OLPS striker
Nicklas Noronha, who could not be denied for long.
It was a Bevan show all along and Asumpta threatened to steal the thunder
with an early strike in the second half when Chadel Fernandes found the net
in the 43 rd minute to put them in the lead. But OLPS lads held their
nerves and turned the match on its head when they struck
twice within a span of two minutes through Nicklas and Vasim Inamdar in the
56th and 57th minutes to snatch victory and a place in the final.
“My forwards missed four sitters in the first half, two one-on- one
situations where goalkeeper Bevan came on top. I must say this goalkeeper
is not only intelligent but has great anticipation and a good pair of
hands. It was our sheer determination and changed strategy that saved the
day for us,” OLPS coach Leroy Menezes said.
Rosary HSS, Navelim came strongly into the second half after taking a 2-0
first half lead to pump in four goals and log the highest victory of the
day. Joybert Almeida and Denson Fernandes shared the goalscoring honours
with two strikes each while Stendly Fernandes and Savelon Cardozo booted a
goal in either half to complete Rosary’s domination.
Joswel Cardozo was the hero in Our Lady of Rosary’s win scoring two first
half goals (14 th and 28 th minutes) while Maxwell Furtado consolidated
their lead in the second session scoring off a penalty in the 38 th minute.
Omkar Shetgaonkar scored from the spot in the 35th minute but it had little
impact on the outcome of the match.
Omkar Parwar (6th minute) and substitute Leslie Machado (43 rd minute)
helped Vasantrao Dempo HSS take a firm grip of the proceedings in the
senior boys semis. Although Xavier’s made a late charge, Lloyd Mascarenhas’
78 th minute strike wasn’t enough.
SEMIFINAL RESULTS
Junior boys: Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda beat Progress High
School, Panjim 3-1; Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School,Cortalim bt
Assumpta Convent High School, Chinchinnim 2-1.
Senior Boys: Vasantrao Dempo Higher Secondary School of Science, Commerce
Arts bt St Xavier’s Higher Secondary School, Mapusa
2-1; Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim bt Shree Ameya Vidyaprasarak

Dempo College shock Rosary to enter RFYS final
Panaji, Nov 8: Srinivassa Sinai Dempo College of Commerce and Economics
came up with a compact display to upset defending champions
and national runners-up Rosary College of Commerce and Arts 8-7 via the
sudden-death after the teams failed to break the dead-lock (3-3)
in regulation time and the tie-breaker (3-3) to be tied 6-6 until the
sudden-death was introduced.
Dempo held their nerves in the sudden-death and prevailed 2-1 for an
overall score of 8-7 in the college boys semi-finals of the Reliance
Foundation Youth Sports Boys Football tournament at the Tilak Maidan
ground, Vasco here on Wednesday.
Dempo played a more compact game with free-flowing passing and build-ups
that had the rivals on the backfoot. They settled into a rhythm
and moved into the driver’s seat soon after the kick-off, refusing to let
Rosary to settle into their groove. That seemed to upset their rhythm
which Dempo took advantage of and sneaked into the lead in the 13th minute.
Boosted by the one-goal advantage, Dempo continued to mount pressure on the
rival citadel with attacks from the flanks and down the
middle. Seven minutes later, Dion Fernandes got into the act, beating
Rosary goalkeeper Ozen Silva in the 20th minute to drive home the
advantage as Dempo went into the lemon break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.
They resumed their domination on resumption with the defence putting up a
stout-hearted performance but somewhere down the line they
took their foot off the gas and allowed Rosary come back into the game with
two strikes within a span of three minutes through Joston
Fernandes and Aaron D’Silva in the 40th and 43rd minutes respectively.
They regrouped after the double reverse and somehow once again snatched the
lead in the 57th minute through Devendra only to see Rosary
bounce back. They staged a grand fight back putting the Dempo defence under
tremendous pressure with Aaron D’Silva pulling strings with
flair from the middle of the park, harnessing the strikers and his fellow
midfielders with fluency.
Just when Dempo scented victory Clive Miranda threw Rosary a lifeline
slipping the ball into the net in the 79th minute to take the game
into the tie-breaker.
Dempo’s players held their nerves in the tie-breaker and scored through
Salu Santos, Aaron D’Silva, Latish Kunkolikar ,Devendra and
Chetan Vernekar while Rosary got their goals through Joven, Lenny
Fernandes, Sneden Medeira and Clive Costa.
In the girls semi-finals, Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim packed
too many guns for Our Lady of Rosary Higher Secondary
School, Dona Paula who seemed to match their opponents attack for attack as
they fought tooth and nail in the first half. In fact each time
Rosary HSS took the lead, Our Lady of Rosary levelled scores immediately
until the scores were 2-2 midway through. But once the
Navelim side struck two more before going into the lemon break for a
comfortable 4-2 lead, the writing was on the wall.
The South Goa school pumped in two more goals after the cross over and
conceded just once towards the dying stages to troop out 6-3
winners.
Striker Somaaya Nadia Mukundan was the star performer for Rosary, finishing
off with a hat-trick while Fevina Costa was not far behind as
she completed a brace for the winners.
Rosary HSS set up a title clash with Regina Martyrum High School, who
downed St Xaviers Higher Secondary School 4-3 via tie-breaker
in the other semi-final.
After a barren first half, Regina took the lead with Suveda Kokates
21st minute strike but St Xaviers struck back five minutes later
through
Khushboo Saundatikar and the scoreline remained 1-1 until the end of
regulation time. In the penalty shootout, the Regina girls held their
nerve to book a berth in the final.
In the girls second semifinals, Regina Martyrum High School, Chicalim,
overcame a stiff challenge from St. Xavier's Higher Secondary School,
Mapusa 4-3
via the sudden-death after the teams were locked 1-1 at the end of
regulation time and 3-3 at the end of the tie-breaker. It was Yukti Patil
who held her
nerves in the crucial sudden-death that saw Regina Martyrum pull through
4-3.
SEMIFINALS RESULTS
College Boys: SS Dempo College of Commerce Economics bt Rosary
College of Commerce and Arts 8(3)-7(3).
School Girls: Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim bt Our Lady of Rosary
Higher Secondary School, Dona Paula 6-3; Regina
Martyrum High School bt St Xavier's Higher Secondary School 4(1)-3(1).

*Mevan slams four, Karishma nets hat-trick in RFYS football*

Panjim, Oct 16: Mevan Dias of Holy Spirit Institute, Borda, stole the
thunder with four strikes, including a hat-trick as his school demolished
St. Rita High School, Curtorim 7-0 in a junior boys’ league match of the
Reliance Foundation Youth Football Sports football tournament at the
Ambelim ground here on Monday.

Mevan struck two goals on either side of the lemon break to accomplish a
rare feat but that was not before Bradley Carvalho took the honours of
opening account for the winners with a clinical finish in the 8th minute.

Saideep Pomburphekar and Aditya Salgaokar were the others to contribute to
the tally.

In another tall scoring encounter, Karishma Shirvoikar came up with a
double strike in the first half and completed her hat-trick in the 60th
minute as Our Lady of Rosary Higher Secondary School ran roughshod over Our
Lady of Rosary High School, also from Dona Paula, 7-0 in a girls league
match.

Simran Faterpekar chipped in with a brace while Blanche Almeida and Dixita
Shirvoikar found the net to put their name on the scorers’ list.

In a closely fought college boys match, Shankar Gaunder not only struck a
goal in the 30th minute but played a crucial role to emerge man of the
match as Fr. Agnel College of Arts and Commerce, Goa Velha, outscored Birla
Institute of Technology and Science KK Birla, Zuarinagar, 4-2 at the Fr.
Agnel’s ground Verna.

Yogender Thapa opened account for Fr. Agnel but their lead was immediately
neutralised by Gurdain Singh who beat the goalkeeper from the spot after
one of their player was fouled in the box. But then Shankar put them ahead
in the 30th minute and then Chandan Gawas and Ganesh Thakur got into the
act to give Fr. Agnel’s a comfortable 4-1 lead.

Just when the Velha team looked to be running away with the match, Parth

Rosary demolish Damodar, Government College stun Dempo in RFYS football

Panaji, Oct 10: Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Margao, showed they
had more than their strikers to
count on as they demolished Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economic,
also from Margao, 5-2 in an
exciting encounter in the college league of the Reliance Foundation Youth
Sports football tournament at the Fr.
Agnel’s ground, Verna, on Tuesday.

It was a well-contested match where Damodar College fought back after the
lemon break but somehow were not
able to overcome the double reverses they suffered in the first half, the
first coming as early as in the second
minute when Reeve Costa found the net. They suffered their second setback
two minutes from the break when
Jovan beat the goalkeeper in the 43rd.

Eight minutes into the second half, Stephen Satarkar pulled one back for
Damodar only to see Clive Miranda
and Jaison Martins send them reeling with successive strikes within three
minutes of each other, the former
beating the goalkeeper in the 61st minute.

Damodar made three quick changes after Jayson Lucas reduced the margin for
them but the move proved
fruitless after Mable Miranda hammered the final nail into their coffin in
the 72nd minute.

Reeve Costa was named man of the match.

Government College of Arts Science Commerce came up with an
impressive performance to stun last year’s
finalists Dempo College 3-0, with two second-half strikes after Vaibhav
Ratnakar Naik drew first blood for
them in the 39th minute with a fine finish, at the Ganeshpuri Sports
Complex ground, Mapusa.
Kunal Santosh Salgaonkar, the man of the match and Abdul Kader Aga, pumped
in goals in the 49th and
61st minutes respectively, to complete the rout.

Dempo did make three changes, one at the death of the first half, Latish
Kunkalkar replacing Akeraj Martins,
while in the second half they brought in Sherwin DaCunha and Chetan
Vernekar. However, the trio failed to
infuse any fire in the team.

Dravin Mandrekar of Government College unnecessary took a yellow card in
the dying minutes of the
encounter.

In a senior boys clash, Romario Dacosta’s superlative hat-trick highlighted
Vrdas Gauncar Higher Secondary
School’s tennis score victory over St. Andrew’s Vasco da Gama 6-2 at the
Fr. Agnel’s ground, Verna.
Ironically, it was St. Andrew’s who looked in command and threatened to run
away with the match when they
struck twice in the first half to lead 2-1 at half-time. However, that was
not to be as Vrdas regrouped and
bounced back with determination, combining well down the middle and the
flanks to take the fight to the enemy
camp.

They eventually broke down the St. Andrew defence and struck 5 times to
register a resounding win.
Progress made a change late in the first half, Marc Barretto replacing
Dnyaneswar Parab, and early in the second
half, 50th minute to be precise, brought in Yeshwant Gawade for Akash Yadav
to ensure they don’t concede
further goals and went into attack mode. Their consistent persistence
eventually paid rich dividends as they
nailed the equaliser in the 63rd minute. But that was as far as the teams
could get as they settled to share the
spoils 1-1.

RESULTS (League)
