[Goanet] CWG Delhi......!!! The other side of the story

2010-10-02 Thread julian Gonsalves

Supporting the CWG does not mean supporting the corruption associated with it.
Meanwhile enjoy the games and think positively . Thats our choice.

[Goanet] FORUM MANNERS and Positive thinking

2009-01-02 Thread julian Gonsalves

* * * * * * * * *   ANNUAL  GOANETTERS  MEET   * * * * * * * * *

Goanetters in Goa and visiting meet Jan 6, 2009 at 3.30 pm at Hotel
Mandovi (prior to the Goa Sudharop event, which you're also welcome to).
Join in for a Dutch dinner -- if we can agree on a venue after the meet.

RSVP (confirmations only) 9822122436 or 2409490 or f...@goa-india.org

Many are now commenting on the need for forum manners. I agree with Melvin and
Fredrick issues relating to Forum Manners. I find the language used by some
to be
particularly offensive and something i have mainlly experienced on Goa net. In
the
past i have suggested that the goa netters concerned engaged in such offensive
exchanges should be courageous to enough to meet their adverseries ,face to
face and
talk out their viewpoints .And yes spare the rest of us from this experience .
I
wanted to unsubscribe on several occasions but really goanet is the only way i
can
keep in touch with Goa and is simply cannot afford to cut myself off from this
information lifeline. ( even in this Vol 4 issue 3 we still see outstanding
personal and nasty exchanges between two people.I commend Fredrick for not
being
drawn into these battles and for being such a great facilitator . He is the
role
model of a generous person hopefully in 2009 we will use public fora for
more
productive information exchanges and networking . Goa net is information forum
and a
platform for keeping informed about Goa but it can also serve as a networking
mechanism and a forum or platform for advocacy and action.

Re: [Goanet] The Right to Convert

2008-12-26 Thread julian Gonsalves
I am shocked, saddened and very bothered by these exchanges between Barad
and Fr Ivo. I cant imagine that whatever religion we are we can stoop so
low. I think its time to get out and look within our communities to do
something more meaningful to do than to be taking pot shots at each other in
this manner( see exchanges below and previously). Everyone has a choice in
life today and that matters. What happend in the past is a matter of history
and its pure waste of good energy to be doing this. Lets look for how we
can brighten our lives irrespective of religion.I wish i had the luxury of
time

Colleagues and Friends

Greetings . I have found the Goanet a very useful way of staying in touch
with whats happening in Goa while I travel on work in S E Asia. But I have
to be honest that I am increasingly disturbed by the nature of the exchanges
on religious issues. I wonder why people have to be so dogmatic, so sure
about themselves and so condemning of other views. I also feel that using
the internet is a very convenient and cowardly way of expressing ones
frustration. Moreover its unprofessional and totally unbecoming of educated
people. I dont see this kind of behaviour in the places i visit. . I am in
involved in International Development work and am on nearly three dozen e
mail listings. Not one of them comes close to some of the exchanges ones
sees on the Goa netin terms of the personal attacks and unprofessinal style.
NONE. I would be ashamded to share the newsletter with non Goans . They
would be shocked that we Goans can stoop so low sometimes.
This Bigotry and dogmatism must stop. Lets reserve it for face to face
exchanges . Courageous people do that and do not seek the refuge of their
homes to take pot shots. Believe me is see the fantacism is not associated
with any particular group but with the individuals that supposedly in the
interests of FACTS and TRUTH resort to cheap flings .

Lets ALL make an effort to stop this. Lets start NOW. Change begins with
each of us

There is so much to talk about and write about .There is a much more
productive and constructive use of the net : serving as a network to
exchange resources and information, establilsh links with resourc
institutions in other parts of the world and to help each other when
information is lacking. I do not think the moderator can do all this. There
is too much to be done and Goa net risks losing its readership if its
members use the net for this purpose. The GOANET could serve as a platform
for ideas...for us to help Goa as it faces with a major crisis maintaining
its identity. Mind you i spend two months in Goa every year so I do get
back. There is so much we can do

May i suggest that we start by impose on ouself a code of conduct EVEN if
the other party does not. Some of us can stop sending out those vindictive
messages,,,others can stop reacting to them. We should ignore whats being
said if its being said in a derogratory manner. What is better than
ignoring such statements.(we use that in south east asia with much effect).
Just ignore . Do not get provoked. Soon some of us will find that its not
worth ourwhile to be selfish bigots and maybe we can be constructively
positive and be of help. Can we try this for a while and can the rest of us
start to think of positive themes to focus on ?

Do ourselves some good. Our world needs more appreciative thinking and more
constructive overtures . Lets give this a try and if it does
work...well...go back to our old evil ways if it does our pyche good( by
that time some of us would unlist ourselves)

Having made all these comments I should say thank you moderator. You are
doing the best you could. The onus is on your readers/users
