[Goanet] PLEASE PUBLISH: Three Shy Men go to Live Music Heaven at Soul Souffle + PUB QUIZ
Soul Souffle at Uddyar Springs in Verna decided to do things a little differently this monsoon. Reviving the Fresh Sessions which created a buzz last season when they brought down Bombay band ‘Spud In The Box’ and Singer-Songwriter Tejas Menon, they decided to pair up great live acts along with an all new continental menu and a fun Pub Quiz. The result? Sunday brunches in Goa have never been the same. This sleek and stylish restaurant which has an al-fresco bar is one of only a handful of venues that has been at the forefront of bringing an amazing array of artists and discerning diners in one place. With the forests around and the spring gurgling at the side, guests have vouched for the great vibe of the venue. On Sunday the 6th of September, The Fresh Sessions are bringing down a bunch of talented and exciting young musicians . Neil Gomes, a local Goan boy from Benaulim, who now lives in Mumbai and is known in the musical circles as some sort of a prodigy because of his unbelievable talent to play over a 26 musical instruments (some that you wouldn’t have even heard of) will be joined by Anand Bhagat and Karan Sajnani and play as The 3 Shy men. Gomes, who has toured the world extensively playing with various bands will be having one of his first ever shows in his hometown. Gomes, who’ll be launching his EP titled Sensitive at the gig as well, will play a set of his originals and cover a fun list of songs that the band grew up listening to, making this an intimate and fun occasion. Nathaniel D’Costa, one of the people behind the Fresh Sessions at Soul Souffle and who hand picks the artists, believes that the audience is getting a lot more reciprocative to live bands than ever before. And bands that have cut their teeth on the national circuit paired with some great dining and a pub quiz make the combination irresistible. The response has been encouraging, and to cater the sheer demand this band is playing a weekend long set at Soul Souffle. While they begin on Saturday Night by jamming up with some local musicians, they bring the entire gamut of instruments as they launch their album on Sunday noon with a brunch and pub quiz. So this weekend if you’re in the mood to nurse a stiff Martini while indulging in some Jazz and Rock and Roll, theres one place you could be at, and after listening to Neil Gomes and The Three Shy Men, you’ll know why music is best heard in its most simplest form - Live and Loud. Re: [Goanet] The ‘ Mojhe Goi ’ will bring in funding for village infrastructure
Tim, Thanks for writing back to us and reading our article. My official id is neshwin.alme...@thegoan.net I am glad that you brought more ideas on board to attract investment from NRG's. We will publish your letter and your apprehensions on the government's current scheme and we will see that the NRI Commission provides you with credible answers. Thanks a ton and ViVa in your side of town. Regards, Neshwin Almeida. On Tue, Jul 23, 2013 at 12:10 AM, Tim de Mello timdemel...@hotmail.comwrote: Dear Mr. U. D. Kamat: I read your interview with Shri Neshwin Almeida of The Goan ( http://216.15.194.90/thegoan/Details.aspx?id=2511boxid=173223640) regarding the desire of Goan expats to contribute to the development of their native areas where they were born or brought up or have their roots. While this may be true in principle, expat Goans are not going to simply part with their money only to have it siphoned off into some local officials pockets. This is not only my view but is the view shared by many in the international global community. It seems to be ingrained in the culture in India. The details of the interview given in The Goan would seem to indicate a very simplistic approach to the concept of 'Mojhe Goi'. Perhaps I have misunderstood. Checks and balances are required to be in place and seen to be in place. The Indian bureaucracy has shown itself to be particularly inept in this regard. Just for information . . . The citizens of Canada, for example, are encouraged by the government to save. We can contribute up to $23,820 per annum towards retirement in a Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) which is sheltered from Tax until retirement and a further $5,500 per annum in a Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA). We can use any financial instrument available to include into either plan. Based on the information given above, I would suggest the following scheme. Though I am no financial expert, I feel it has a much better chance of succeeding. 1. The current state of Indian Bonds notwithstanding, the Goa Government should float bonds that can be purchased by overseas Indians. These bonds should be guaranteed by the RBI. These bonds should be on par with similar bonds available on the global market. Similar to Israel Bonds. NRIs should be able to purchase these instruments (in foreign denominations also) through institutions like the State Bank of India that has branches worldwide. Canadians could then use them to form part of their portfolio in their RRSPs and/or TFSAs. 2. The money invested in these bonds is then used by the Goa Government for infrastructure projects. This process will encourage NRIs to invest because their investment will be protected. The Goa Government then has the responsibility to demonstrate to the Bank that the monies have been disbursed for infrastructure improvement in a responsible way. Mr. Kamat, I would appreciate a response to my suggestion. Tim de Mello Canada cc: NRI Commissioner for Goa CM Goa -- Isaiah 33:2: O Lord, be gracious to us; we long for You. On the same evening a similar interaction was then conducted at Manovikas School, Margao. Friends of Freedom members Neshwin Almeida and Siddharth Narayanan along with Swati Chawla a Youth Associate of the Center for Civil Society, New Delhi spoke to the children about personal liberty. She also a coordinator for South Asia and conducts and attended exchange programs in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Fresh from her return from Turkey where was selected for the International Youth Forum spoke to the children with Neshwin Almeida a Liberty and Society Graduate and Siddharth Narayanan a graduate in public policy and society. Personal Liberty includes the freedom to do what one desires with responsibility and not governed by society or the people that influences us. The children told us how they are restrained to do certain activities or how their not allowed to make choices because either their parents dont like it or because their teachers dont approve of it. We told the children how todays elders force or influence our choices because of the stereotype mindsets created by society which includes all the people we come across. The children were told that these kind of mindsets blog our minds and make us classify or brand people which creates divides amongst various sections of society which is the main reason for conflict. The children of both the schools were also told how we should stand up for open thinking and question our elders or governments against decisions or ideologies that do not match those of a civil society. The children were also spoken to about how we should think rationally and that our activities or actions should not cause a hindrance to the people around us. FOF also conducted games and gave various examples to reach their message across. FoF which is a group that works in association with Center for Civil Society a NGO headed by Dr Parth Shah a former professor of Auburn University, Michigan deals in issues of Governance, Education and Livelihood. The interaction with the school students was held on the sidelines of the Liberty and Society Seminar at Miramar for Economics and Political Science Students which was supported by Sir RATAN TATA TRUST (SRTT). [Goanet] GOA OF MY DREAMS----------AN EDITORIAL
Name: Neshwin Noel Almeida. E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mobile No: 9881136728 WHAT I CAN DO FOR GOA Goa the Pearl of the Orient!! My serene land of faith, love, peace, harmony abounded by beautiful flora and fauna, the white sands, ancient churches, cathedrals, temples and mosques. As a Goinkar (Goan) I have dreams, ambitions and aspiration to pay back my obligations to Goa whish has given me so much from varied cultures, the palette of innumerable delicacies and love, respect and stature in the international society as a Goan. Over the last five years my mind works up on the increasing news reports of arrest and rounding up of drug peddlers, increasing murderers, rapes, robberies and crimes in Goa. To curb these evils that have conquered our land we need immediate change in reforms, ethics and laws. The need is to increase our responsibility to protect the growing youth and instill authority and self discipline among the people. The increase of drug peddlers which includes also alcoholics and smokers is because of the increasing tourist who come to Goa in search of NIRVANA introduced grass and charas, Saturday Nite Bazaar, Booming Party zones, Discos, Rave Parties and Flea Markets up North which is slowly coming down South. The main cause of rapes, molestation and women harassment is because of the increasing Desperados coming to Goa from other states in search of work. These migrant labours are not used to the Goan lifestyle to mingle in society Oogle their eyes at women. Robberies and thefts have increased under the same factor-migrant labour and the greedy Goan who does not want to study but indulge in these activities. Another evil which is spread all over Goa is the sex racket and prostitution. Dirty women who want a fast buck indulge in these activities in Goa which was initially not happening in Goa. But with the demolition of the Baina cubicles and stringent laws and ordinances on the dance bars by the governments of Maharastra has brought these women to Goa for business. These are the carriers of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Today in Goa more than 300 cases of Aids are detected and by 2012 everyday 7000 deaths caused by AIDS are expected in Goa. So the need of the hour is strict police vigilance, curb and control of all illegal activities including Mudko, widespread awareness among Goans to keep alert, maintenance of log books and records and also registration of migrant labour and tourist coming from the Opium world. There is also a need of social reforms which needs to be imbibed in mostly the Goan youth in the age group of 12 years to 30 years. Since this the age group of making right choices and decisions seems a little difficult. One wrong decision can put us in extreme jeopardy and sabotage our life which is one reason of increasing peer pressure and suicides in Goa. The youth of Goa need extreme direction through proper education, implementation of sex education, setting up of certain norms and standards to the youth and working on building better relations in society. This will result in diminishing cyber-crimes, rapes and all the social evils hitting Goa. This could even change our mind-sets and start getting people away from the BARS, TAVERNS, CASINOS, DISCOS and RAVE PARTIES. It is not that Im against social life which is one of the basics of a Goan. But this phrase social life is now being exploited with increasing tourism and migrant labour in Goa. Another aspect is the garbage menace. Its the core issue of debating at the moment. All we saw is protest, write-up and pin-ups by the big guns of the Goan society. Let us make the garbage problem a two way process for faster clearance and quickly improve the eyesore in Curca, Sonsoddo, Saligao and Assagao. If every person starts waste segregation, Vermi-composting or locating dump sites the garbage menace can be solved immediately. We need quick solution or it will eat on tourism which is the GOOSE that lays the golden egg for Goans and provides employment to thousand of Goans. Let us join hands in solving this menace and also clearing our beaches which is laden with garbage. The basic need to induce garbage clearance and cleaner surroundings is to get rid of the Goan mindset of dumping our dirt in the neighbors compound. Goa over the last years has stated witnessing communalism. Something that never prevailed among the love filled Goans. This communalism has brought about by political parties, its factions and co-partners creating a divide and hatred among the different religious communities of Goa. These parties which are like the hood-wings of a horse have filthy mindsets and vested interest which has misguided our people and left us high and dry. I hereby appeal to every Goan who have the right to vote to root out this evil and useless political parties and let our peace and love filled environment
