[Goanet] Our future King has Indian blood
The British were in India for about two centuries and when they withdrew in 1947, they left behind about 300,000 Anglo-Indians meaning people of mixed racial background , part British and part Indian. Our Goanet literati can write volumes about them but when it comes to Mestisos of mixed Portuguese and Goan unions we tend to remain silent. The Portuguese colonials mostly of desterrado type lived in Goa for about three and half centuries from 1510 to 1869 ( the year Suez canal was thrown open for navigation and Portuguese women could safely travel to Goa ) and had out of sheer necessity to cohabit with Goan women and thus produce a mixed race called Mestiso. Nowadays hardly anyone in Goa claim to be of Mestiso origin and yet we cannot pretend they did not exist amongst us. Not all of them could have left for Portugal in 1961.Hence it would be interesting to know of their whereabouts. May be a Goanetter could throw some light on the subject.

This has happened before and won't be the last time on goanet either.. When someone slips... there are n number of reasons to justify them, like the below 'stirring the pot', whatever.. But one thing is for sure... I did not see from all the responses from Gabe that, he was all worked up or violent! The rain has bought much relief now from all the heat of last week... Now that the Urak time is over...can expect something better:-) hAVE a nICE dAY! Mogal Bosco, I am not very sure HOW your 'wiki-quote' answers the 'AngloIndian' query asked in 1 (infra). The pre-1900 nomenclature notwithstanding, is every child born in India to English parents classified as Anglo Indian? Surnames like Catarina, Julia and Jerónimo? BTW: while I know that some Goans in British India with Portuguese surnames reportedly Anglicized their surnames ie Ferns (Fernandes), Sawyer (Soares), are you sure that ALL the Lawrences from India or British India are, in fact, Lourencos from Goa? Have a good day jc .. Re: 1: how did Englebert become Anglo-Indian? Were any of his parents or their's Not British British? 2: and what, if I may ask is the origin of the surname Lawrence? Not very sure what got Xri Pinto all so worked up. From what I see, Gabe merely posted an article from DM. Xri Pinto, as long as you are there (at least), Nobody is applying to your King. Additionally, what is 'our' to Gabe may not be 'our' to you or me. So, why do you believe Gabe put his foot in his mouth? I believe it was actually you who did that, replete with a Payal Chappal in tow. Re: [Goanet] Our future King has Indian blood...
Dear Augusto, Apologize and move on. A genuine apology no matter what at this point--will be worth the exercise. It could be somewhat different if there is an OCI in the mix. To you and others on Goanet: Apologies in most cases are something very rare on Goanet. Humor is a device that is hard to use, and most of us are too young at it, and rarely have the chops. The same with argumentation. Of course on the other hand aggravated responses are indeed very disconcerting, and seems to be getting worse among us Christians. But perhaps it appears so since more often than not (i believe so) we C/Xristanvs speak our minds out, so it appears, unlike the other smart alecs. Its often best to take a step back and I am not asking you to take a page from any sutra, But speaking about self--it has helped. Best. + + A few thoughts to Gabe and all on Goanet: Why do we find it hard no matter what to simply proffer the facts as in: Hey Guy / Baba / ok: Shanya, I am a citizen of the UK (as the case may be country), and by ours I meant myself and us Brits. Considering the impression I have of many of you its always like I am doing a second take. No one is asking for any of you to be weak, but still where is all the culture, and allegria that is subtly and however inadvertently alluded in our manners (acts, etc.) and processes, and to which we can now hardly lay claim to? For my part its time I muzzled my expectations sooner than the waiting for the year to end. GL replies: Thanks for the welcome-back! But to the topic at hand, are the Anglo-Indians across the world celebrating? Not that they need a reason to celebrate. But literary they will have one of their own in the Big Palace very soon. They can now have the real big house for their reunions and parties.
