In a few days it will be the 70th anniversary of the Indian sub-continent's freedom from Britain.
Over the years, much has been written about the circumstances surrounding the partition of India and Pakistan. The late Khushwant Singh's 1956 book 'Train to Pakistan' describes not only the politics but also the human suffering that caused and accompanied it. In the words of a British journalist who had witnessed the death camps in Nazi Germany and was then covering the history occurring in 1947 Delhi, "Auschwitz was in no way comparable to the savagery on the border".
