Dear Selma,

I knew you would come to this realization. Now it is our job to convince the
few leftover aging votaries of my generation and the younger ones of your
generation who are still fighting the crusades and the dharmayuddhas of
antiquity to move on into the future, and leave a better legacy behind rather
than a bitter one.

Cheers,

Santosh

[Goanet] All India Hindu convention calls for common civil code

2012-06-12 Thread Carvalho
Dear Dr Santosh Helekar,
I used to worry too about such things. I used to fret and fume all day long.
But a curious thing has happened to me over the past two months. I've been
hanging out at Goa speaks, and the young voices there are incredible. There are
some superb young, Hindu liberals batting these curve balls right out of the
pitch, taking them head on. This Ram Sene has no support in Goa, he is
uniformly despised by all.

While we were all growing old on Goanet, a new Goa was emerging. Great Hindu
commentators and equally great Catholic commentators amongst our men and women
who are barely out of their twenties or thirties. I feel completely revitalised
in my hope for Goa. But as one commentator on that forum said, we owe it to the
older generation who instilled these values in us. So well done all way round.

This is not to say there are not deep divisions in our society but we are
willing to pay the price of eternal vigilance. What's important for now is this
great vibrant dialogue that is taking place between Hindus and Catholics. Goa
is not RIP, it is infact ressurected through our young.

Take care,
selma

The most disturbing part of this disgraceful conference is the following:

It can only be described as a clear expression of a criminal mentality. I hope
some kind of anti-goondaism task force is keeping a close watch on this man.

As regards the rest of the crap,  the following claim that the Indian
constitution was not secular before 1976 is false:

QUOTE
Dr Neel Madhav Das, President, 'Tarun Hindu' organization, pointed out that
when India became a republic in 1960, there was nothing called as secular in
the constitution of India.
UNQUOTE

Here is what article 25 section 1 of the constitution, promulgated in 1949,
says:

QUOTE
25. Freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of
religion
(1) Subject to public order, morality and health and to the other provisions of
this Part, all persons are equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the
right freely to profess, practise and propagate religion
UNQUOTE

I have to grant that people who do not have a conscience would not know what
freedom of conscience is. And by the way, India became a republic in 1950, not
1960.

Cheers,

Santosh

[Goanet] All India Hindu convention calls for common civil code

2012-06-10 Thread Gabe Menezes
RAMNATHI: The 'All India Hindu convention' got underway in the temple
town here Sunday with a call for Hindu unity aimed at making India a Hindu
nation .

The huge congregation of Hindu right-wing organizations and leaders from
across the country also demanded a common civil code in India.

National coordinator of Hindu Jangruti Samiti (HJS) - the organizers of the
meet - Chitaranjan Sural from Kolkata stressed the need for India to have a
common civil code. "India would be able to move ahead in leaps and bounds
if India adopts a common civil code", he said calling for support from all
sections of the society for the new system.

Pramod Mutalik, President, Shriram Sena in South India, made it clear that
the Sena doesn't follow Gandhian principle of non-violence. "We are not
Gandhians. Non-violence as a form of agitation cannot take up anywhere. We
would rather follow in the footsteps of Bhagat
Singh
 and Subhash Chandra
Bose,"
Mutalik said.

Perhaps this is his first public speech after his entry was banned by the
Congress government more than a year ago in view of Sena-related violence
in neighbouring Karnataka.

At present, BJP is ruling Goa for the last three months. Without mincing
words, he said "We can achieve our objective only with aggression".

He alleged that the government was silent to the "large scale"
conversion going
on in Karnataka in the name of Love Jihad. Rameshwar Mishra, President ,
'Dharmapalan Shodhpeeth' Bhopal, emphasized the need to end religious-based
reservations in the country which he said are taking the country in reverse
direction.

He criticized the government on cow
slaughter and
said that the law is more on paper as indiscriminate cow slaughter is
taking place in the country with overt or covert backing of the
authorities.

Mishra also cautioned the government of trying to take over temples.
Criticising the government for eyeing rich temples, he warned that the
people would come on the streets if the government doesn't give up its
plans.

Dr Neel Madhav Das, President, 'Tarun Hindu' organization, pointed out that
when India became a republic in 1960, there was nothing called as secular
in the constitution of India. It was only in 1976 during an amendment, the
word secular was incorporated in the constitution.

According to the organizers, the five-day conference will also discuss
issues related to conversion, religious reservations, persecution of
Hindus in
the Hindu-majority India. The meet is to also chalk out an action plan
aimed at making India a Hindu nation.
