Dear PR,

Without interfering with your "impartial" disposition, I thought that
I'd place the following for quiet reading:

1: I have been watching the US Republican contenders' debates .
particularly what Ron Paul has had to say.

2: And while Ron Paul articulated his 'libertarian' thoughts as
'brilliantly' (NOT!) as Tony deSa did in his 'peanut' response to
Ole_Xac BC, he (Ron Paul) has an underlying anti-aggression thread in
his presentations. I agree with his view.

3: So, the questions remains: Is it OK to invade a territory which is
not yours (e.g. Was it OK for Indonesia to invade E. Timor)?

4: Is it hypocritical (or not) to spout support for Self-determination
and NOT afford that same right to others?

5: Is it OK for militarily stronger nations to invade militarily
weaker nations and yet turn a blind eye towards others which are not
weak militarily?

6: It is not who is sitting on the higher moral ground. It is "Who is
a Hypocrite?" !

Without wanting to take sides in what looks like yet another fine goa-goan
tiff about who's sitting higher on the moral high ground: I visited the
Andamans (and thanks the Shipping Corporation of India's TSS Nancowry even
Car Nicobar!) in 1981 for a few weeks, and I must say, I found myself
transported back in the blessed times of the colonies. The Indian presence
there was benevolent, but had really all the trappings of 'mission
civilisatrice' viz 'the white man's burden' (now with a slightly darker
skin ;-)

I had a great time, and this was way before the tourist invasion (the
first surfing boards for the newly opened stared beach resort were carried
on the same ship) and for me it was really, as it's called in the Dutch
remembering of the Netherlands Indies (Indonesia), "tempo doeloe" (blessed
unhurried times). But yes, the 'colonial atmosphere' was very much
there...

Cheers from hurried and grey Amsterdma,
patrizio & the Dinosaurs!
