They wanted to get away from the bustling crowds of Calangute and Ajuna in the late 70s-80s. Twenty years ago, it was rather scary walking from Morjim to Arambol and a strange feeling to be alone at mid-day...not a soul in sight. The scary part was crossing the stream...I thought was a breeze but was drenched all right. Aye, the plastic chairs: ain't that Goan practicality and color? The 'bad guys' aspect of this Goa's nth occupation (Goa has been occupied by a variety of tourists from some smaller Moguls, Marathas, Portuguese etc), do take a minute to listen to Misha Glenny, the author of McMafia. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Misha+glenny&search_type= He is making his rounds these days and his slide show presentation, is most interesting if you chance upon an opportunity to attend his lectures/talks. This time in the Daily Telegraph here in the UK, but in any media, shows there are places to praise in these countries, and the local goverment is making sure it stays that way. But I am anxiously awaiting the European beaches "Top 10 / 20" to see if the UK features at all this year. I am told due to heavy rains, the beaches are contaminated with animal slurry & human drain contents mixing in the rivers which flow into the sea & making the water contaminated with dangerous bacterium ( dangerous to humans as well as marine life). When its hot & balmy, the beaches are safe, but when it rains or there are storms, the beaches are dangerous afterwards, due this contamination. Then we have the PLASTIC debris which is brought onto the beaches by the tourists as well as the tides, bringing all sorts of flotsum & getsum John Monteiro --- Gabe Menezes <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Arambol Beach, Goa This stretch of beautiful coastline has managed to avoid the rampant commercialism further down the coast.Gabe Menezes. ---

Only a matter of time before Arambol becomes a development slum. Look at a map of the world, it should say "endangered" everywhere. Not just the coastline but hills, farmland, mountains are being "developed". One of the hottest places in hell is reserved for those who abuse the earth.
