PRESS NOTE:

AWARENESS ON CERVICAL CANCER PREVENTION

Cancer, the most dreaded disease can strike any individual with lethal results.
Cancer of the neck of womb (cervix) is the most common form of cancer
affecting Indian women. Risk of cancer of the cervix for women in India is
2.4% compared to 1.3% for rest of the world. Nearly 80% of this cancer is
detected in late stages in India compared to 10 20% in developed countries
like USA. The mortality therefore is highest in India.

On the positive side, cervical cancer has a long precancerous stage and can be
cured 100% if detected in this stage or early stages. Screening and prevention
of this cancer is therefore possible.

Lions Club of Mormugao is organizing a cervical cancer awareness programme at
St. Andrews Church Hall, Vasco da Gama, on 26/9/2010 at 10.30 a.m. The
speakers for this programme are Dr. Nimish Pillai, Gynaecologist, MPT Hospital
and Dr. Shailesh Kamat, practicing Gynaecologist from Vasco.

Public especially ladies are requested to attend and benefit from this
awareness programme.
